A numerical study of two gaseous bubbles merging into a single coalesced bubble as in underwater explosions is investigated in this paper. This explosive phenomenon is modeled using a boundary integral method. Two configurations, which are in-phase and out-of-phase explosions, are simulated and compared with available experimental results. The thickness of the liquid film between the two bubbles determines our coalescence criterion. Bubble shapes and periods of oscillation are predicted well, compared to those of the experiments.  相似文献

We present an efficient, non-stiff boundary integral method for 3D porous media flow with surface tension. Surface tension introduces high order (i.e., high derivative) terms into the evolution equations, and this leads to severe stability constraints for explicit time-integration methods. Furthermore, the high order terms appear in non-local operators, making the application of implicit methods difficult. Our method uses the fundamental coefficients of the surface as dynamical variables, and employs a special isothermal parameterization of the interface which enables efficient application of implicit or linear propagator time-integration methods via a small-scale decomposition. The method is tested by computing the relaxation of an interface to a flat surface under the action of surface tension. These calculations employ an approximate interface velocity to test the stiffness reduction of the method. The approximate velocity has the same mathematical form as the exact velocity, but avoids the numerically intensive computation of the full Birkhoff–Rott integral. The algorithm is found to be effective at eliminating the severe time-step constraint that plagues explicit time-integration methods.  相似文献

The result induces a dense packing of Cm×Cn by means of vertex-disjoint subgraphs, each isomorphic to a diagonal array. The plane strain problem of determining Stress Intensity Factors (SIF) for a moving interfacial Griffith crack between an elastic orthotropic half-plane and a dissimilar orthotropic layer with a moving punch situated along the boundary of the layer have been considered. The problem is reduced to the solution of three simultaneous singular integral equations with Cauchy-type singularities. Expressions for SIF for the case of a general loading are obtained. In chemistry, computer graphics is now well established as a tool to interpret simulation results, since molecules are complicated in their structures and mutual interactions. As a probe to study such molecular interactions, electrostatic fields are considered to be useful. However, since they are given as 3D vector fields having cusps in the fields, conventional drawing techniques are not applicable. In this article, two new approaches are presented to visualize the electrostatic fields of molecules. One is an extension of topological skeletons, by which interactions between atoms having opposite charges are expressed, which is not shown with the conventional methods. The other is to define new functions called selective functions to select regions of interest only from the geometrical features of the fields. Furthermore, from the definition of the new functions, mathematical relations between the topological skeletons and selective functions are discussed. In both nonparametric density estimation and regression, the so-called boundary effects, i.e. the bias and variance increase due to one sided data information, can be quite serious. For estimation performed on transformed variables this problem can easily get boosted and may distort substantially the final estimates, and consequently the conclusions. After a brief review of some existing methods a new, straightforward and very simple boundary correction is proposed, applying local bandwidth variation at the boundaries. The statistical behavior is discussed and the performance for density and regression estimation is studied for small and moderate sample sizes. In a simulation study this method is shown to perform very well. Furthermore, it appears to be excellent for estimating the world income distribution, and Engel curves in economics.  相似文献
