A fully integrated dual-band transceiver is implemented in 0.18-/spl mu/m CMOS and is compliant with the IEEE 802.11a/b/g standards. The direct-conversion transceiver occupies 12 mm/sup 2/ in a QFN-40 package. A fractional-N synthesizer operates at twice the channel frequency, covering continuously bands from 4.9 to 5.9 GHz, as well as the 2.4-GHz band. The 5- and 2.4-GHz receivers achieve a sensitivity level below -73 dBm in the 54-Mb/s mode and below -93 dBm in the 6-Mb/s mode, while consuming 230 mW. A fast RSSI-channel power-detection system allows to power-down signal processing in the listen mode. The 5- and 2.4-GHz transmitters implement a wideband Cartesian feedback loop for enhanced EVM performances and improved spectrum masks compliance. The transmitters deliver -2-dBm average power with an EVM of 3% in the 54-Mb/s mode while consuming 300 mW.  相似文献

A single-chip dual-band 5.15-5.35-GHz and 2.4-2.5-GHz zero-IF transceiver for IEEE 802.11a/b/g WLAN systems is fabricated on a 0.18-/spl mu/m CMOS technology. It utilizes an innovative architecture including feedback paths that enable digital calibration to help eliminate analog circuit imperfections such as transmit and receive I/Q mismatch. The dual-band receive paths feature a 4.8-dB (3.5-dB) noise figure at 5.25 GHz (2.45 GHz). The corresponding sensitivity at 54 Mb/s operation is -76 dBm for 802.11a and -77 dBm for 802.11g, both referred at the input of the chip. The transmit chain achieves output 1-dB compression at 6 dBm (9 dBm) at 5 GHz (2.4 GHz) operation. Digital calibration helps achieve an error vector magnitude (EVM) of -33 dB (-31 dB) at 5 GHz (2.4 GHz) while transmitting -4 dBm at 54Mb/s. The die size is 19.3 mm/sup 2/ and the power consumption is 260 mW for the receiver and 320 mW (270 mW) for the transmitter at 5 GHz (2.4 GHz) operation.  相似文献

A fully integrated radio transceiver chip for the 2.4- and 5-GHz WLAN standards 802.11a/b/g is presented in a 0.25-/spl mu/m 40-GHz BiCMOS technology. The chip integrates the low-noise amplifiers, mixers, channel filters, programmable gain control, synthesizers with voltage-controlled oscillators and reference oscillator, transmitters, antialiasing filters, and voltage regulators. The key performances of the presented transceiver are a receive sensitivity of -85 dBm and -74 dBm for 11-Mb/s complementary code keying (CCK) and 54 Mb/s orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modes, respectively, and an error vector magnitude of -35 dB measured at the transmitter with an output power of -4 dBm at 54-Mb/s 802.11a mode. The transceiver exceeds all IEEE requirements for the 802.11a/b/g CCK and OFDM standards and supports a frequency range of 4.9 to 6 GHz for the future extensions of the 802.11a standard in different countries.  相似文献

A dual-band trimode radio fully compliant with the IEEE 802.11a, b, and g standards is implemented in a 0.18-/spl mu/m CMOS process and packaged in a 48-pin QFN package. The transceiver achieves a receiver noise figure of 4.9/5.6 dB for the 2.4-GHz/5-GHz bands, respectively, and a transmit error vector magnitude (EVM) of 2.5% for both bands. The transmit output power is digitally controlled, allowing per-packet power control as required by the forthcoming 802.11 h standard. A quadrature accuracy of 0.3/spl deg/ in phase and 0.05 dB in amplitude is achieved through careful analysis and design of the I/Q generation parts of the local oscillator. The local oscillators achieve a total integrated phase noise of better than -34 dBc. Compatibility with multiple baseband chips is ensured by flexible interfaces toward the A/D and D/A converters, as well as a calibration scheme not requiring any baseband support. The chip passes /spl plusmn/2 kV human body model ESD testing on all pins, including the RF pins. The total die area is 12 mm/sup 2/. The power consumption is 207 mW in the receive mode and 247 mW in the transmit mode using a 1.8-V supply.  相似文献

A fully integrated dual-mode CMOS transceiver tuned to 2.4 GHz consumes 65 mA in receive mode and 78 mA in transmit mode from a 3-V supply. The radio includes all the receive and transmit building blocks, such as frequency synthesizer, voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), and power amplifier, and is intended for use in 802.11b and Bluetooth applications. The Bluetooth receiver uses a low-IF architecture for higher level of integration and lower power consumption, while the 802.11b receiver is direct conversion. The receiver achieves a typical sensitivity of -88 dBm at 11 Mb/s for 802.11b, and -83 dBm for Bluetooth mode. The receiver minimum IIP3 is -8 dBm. Both transmitters use a direct-conversion architecture, and deliver a nominal output power of 0 dBm, with a power range of 20 dB in 2-dB steps.  相似文献

This paper describes a high-performance WLAN 802.11a/b/g radio transceiver, optimized for low-power in mobile applications, and for co-existence with cellular and Bluetooth systems in the same terminal. The direct-conversion transceiver architecture is optimized in each mode for low-power operation without compromising the challenging RF performance targets. A key transceiver requirement is a sensitivity of -77 dBm (at the LNA input) in 54 Mb/s OFDM mode while in the presence of a GSM1900 transmitter interferer. The receiver chain achieves an overall noise figure of 2.8/3.2 dB, consuming 168/185 mW at 2.8 V for the 2.4/5GHz bands, respectively. Signal loopback and transmit power detection techniques are used in conjunction with the baseband modem processor to calibrate the transmitter LO leakage and the transceiver I/Q imbalances. Fabricated in a 70 GHz f/sub T/ 0.25-/spl mu/m SiGe BiCMOS technology for system-in-package (SiP) use, the dual-band, tri-mode transceiver occupies only 4.6 mm/sup 2/.  相似文献

A fully integrated system-on-a-chip (SOC) in 130-nm CMOS technology compliant with world-band 802.11a/b/g is presented. This SOC integrates all blocks including 2.4-GHz/5-GHz RF tranceiver, baseband physical layer (PHY), and the medium access controller (MAC). At 1.8 V, the whole SOC dissipates 144/168 mA in receiving mode and 114/150 mA in transmitting mode for 2.4-GHz/5-GHz-band operations. The measured receiver sensitivity at 2.4 GHz/5 GHz is $-{hbox{77.5}}/-{hbox{74}} hbox{dBm}$ at 54 Mb/s rate, and the transmitter EVM at 54 Mb/s rate is $-{hbox{33}}/-{hbox{30}} {hbox {dB}}$ at an output power of $-{hbox{7}}/-{hbox{8}} hbox{dBm}$. By integrating multiple on-chip LDOs with no off-chip capacitors, this SOC features the capability of being directly supplied by off-chip switching-type DC/DC converter without performance degradation.   相似文献

This paper presents radio-frequency (RF) microsystems (MSTs) composed by low-power devices for use in wireless sensors networks (WSNs). The RF CMOS transceiver is the main electronic system and its power consumption is a critical issue. Two RF CMOS transceivers with low-power and low-voltage supply were fabricated to operate in the 2.4 and 5.7 GHz ISM bands. The measurements made in the RF CMOS transceiver at 2.4 GHz, which showed a sensitivity of −60 dBm with a power consumption of 6.3 mW from 1.8 V supply. The measurements also showed that the transmitter delivers an output power of 0 dBm with a power consumption of 11.2 mW. The RF CMOS transceiver at 5.7 GHz has a total power consumption of 23 mW. The target application of these RF CMOS transceivers is for MSTs integration and for use as low-power nodes in WSNs to work during large periods of time without human operation, management and maintenance. These RF CMOS transceivers are also suitable for integration in thermoelectric energy scavenging MSTs.  相似文献

A single-chip 2.4-GHz CMOS radio transceiver with integrated baseband processing according to the IEEE 802.15.4 standard is presented. The transceiver consumes 14.7 mA in receive mode and 15.7 mA in transmit mode. The receiver uses a low-IF topology for high sensitivity and low power consumption, and achieves -101 dBm sensitivity for 1% packet error rate. The transmitter topology is based on a PLL direct-modulation scheme. Optimizations of architecture and circuit design level in order to reduce the transceiver power consumption are described. Special attention is paid to the RF front-end design which consumes 2.4mA in receive mode and features bidirectional RF pins. The 5.77 mm2 chip is implemented in a standard 0.18-mum CMOS technology. The transmitter delivers +3 dBm into the 100-Omega differential antenna port  相似文献

A 30 dBm ultra-low insertion loss CMOS transmit-receive switch fully integrated with an 802.11b/g/n transceiver front-end is demonstrated. The switch achieves an insertion loss of 0.4 dB in transmit mode and 0.1 dB in receive mode. The entire receiver chain from antenna to baseband output achieves a measured noise figure of 3.6 dB at 2.4 GHz. The switch has a P1dB greater than 30 dBm by employing a substrate isolation technique without using deep n-well technology.
