This work focused on hydrogen production from the photocatalytic water splitting under visible light irradiation using Eosin Y-sensitized mesoporous-assembled TiO2–SiO2 mixed oxide photocatalysts, of which the mesoporous-assembled TiO2–SiO2 mixed oxides with various TiO2-to-SiO2 molar ratios were synthesized by a sol–gel process with the aid of a structure-directing surfactant. The effects of SiO2 content, calcination temperature, and phase composition of the mixed oxide photocatalysts were investigated. The experimental results showed that the TiO2–SiO2 mixed oxide photocatalyst with the TiO2-to-SiO2 molar ratio of 97:3 and calcined at 500 °C provided the maximum photocatalytic hydrogen production activity. The characterization results supported that the 0.97TiO2–0.03SiO2 mixed oxide photocatalyst (with the suitable SiO2 content of 3 mol%) possessed superior physicochemical properties for the photocatalytic reaction as compared to the pure TiO2, particularly higher specific surface area, lower mean mesopore diameter, higher total pore volume, and lower crystallite size, which led to an enhanced photocatalytic activity.  相似文献

Sensitized photocatalytic production of hydrogen from water splitting is investigated under visible light irradiation over mesoporous-assembled titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanocrystal photocatalysts, without and with Pt loading. The photocatalysts are synthesized by a sol–gel process with the aid of a structure-directing surfactant and are characterized by N2 adsorption–desorption analysis, X-ray diffraction, UV–vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis. The dependence of hydrogen production on the type of TiO2 photocatalyst (synthesized mesoporous-assembled and commercial non-mesoporous-assembled TiO2 without and with Pt loading), the calcination temperature of the synthesized photocatalyst, the sensitizer (Eosin Y) concentration, the electron donor (diethanolamine) concentration, the photocatalyst dosage and the initial solution pH is systematically studied. The results show that in the presence of the Eosin Y sensitizer, the Pt-loaded mesoporous-assembled TiO2 synthesized by a single-step sol–gel process and calcined at 500 °C exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity for hydrogen production from a 30 vol.% diethanolamine aqueous solution with dissolved 2 mM Eosin Y. Moreover, the optimum photocatalyst dosage and initial solution pH for the maximum photocatalytic activity for hydrogen production are 3.33 g dm−3 and 11.5, respectively.  相似文献

The photocatalytic hydrogen production from aqueous methanol solution was investigated with ZnO/TiO2, SnO/TiO2, CuO/TiO2, Al2O3/TiO2 and CuO/Al2O3/TiO2 nanocomposites. A mechanical mixing method, followed by the solid-state reaction at elevated temperature, was used for the preparation of nanocomposite photocatalyst. Among these nanocomposite photocatalysts, the maximal photocatalytic hydrogen production was observed with CuO/Al2O3/TiO2 nanocomposites. A variety of components of CuO/Al2O3/TiO2 photocatalysts were tested for the enhancement of H2 formation. The optimal component was 0.2 wt% CuO/0.3 wt% Al2O3/TiO2. The activity exhibited approximately tenfold enhancement at the optimum loading, compared with that with pure P-25 TiO2. Nano-sized TiO2 photocatalytic hydrogen technology has great potential for low-cost, environmentally friendly solar-hydrogen production to support the future hydrogen economy.  相似文献

Mesoporous-assembled TiO2 nanocrystals with very high photocatalytic H2 production activity were synthesized through a modified sol-gel process with the aid of urea as mesopore-directing agent, heat-treated under various calcination temperatures, and assessed for their photocatalytic H2 production activity via water splitting reaction. The resulting mesoporous-assembled TiO2 nanocrystals were systematically characterized by N2 adsorption-desorption analysis, surface area and pore size distribution analyses, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The experimental results showed that the photocatalytic H2 production activity of the synthesized mesoporous-assembled TiO2 nanocrystal calcined at 500 °C, which possessed very narrow pore size distribution, was extraordinarily higher than that of the commercially available P-25 TiO2 and ST-01 TiO2 powders.  相似文献

Simultaneous photocatalytic hydrogen production and CO2 reduction (to form CO and CH4) from water using methanol as a hole scavenger were investigated using silver-modified TiO2 (Ag/TiO2) nanocomposite catalysts. A simple ultrasonic spray pyrolysis (SP) method was used to prepare mesoporous Ag/TiO2 composite particles using TiO2 (P25) and AgNO3 as the precursors. The material properties and photocatalytic activities were compared with those prepared by a conventional wet-impregnation (WI) method. It was found that the samples prepared by the SP method had a larger specific surface area and a better dispersion of Ag nanoparticles on TiO2 than those prepared by the WI method, and as a result, the SP samples showed much higher photocatalytic activities toward H2 production and CO2 reduction. The optimal Ag concentration on TiO2 was found to be 2 wt%. The H2 production rate of the 2% Ag/TiO2–SP sample exhibited a six-fold enhancement compared with the 2% Ag/TiO2–WI sample and a sixty-fold enhancement compared with bare TiO2. The molar ratio of H2 and CO in the final products can be tuned in the range from 2 to 10 by varying the reaction gas composition, suggesting a viable way of producing syngas (a mixture of H2 and CO) from CO2 and water using the prepared Ag/TiO2 catalysts with energy input from the sun.  相似文献

Cheap and efficient photocatalysts were fabricated by simply mixing TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) and CuO NPs. The two NPs combined with each other to form TiO2/CuO mixture in an aqueous solution due to the opposite surface charge. The TiO2/CuO mixture exhibited photocatalytic hydrogen production rate of up to 8.23 mmol h−1 g−1 under Xe lamp irradiation when the weight ratio of P25 to CuO was optimized to 10. Although the conduction band edge position of CuO NPs is more positive than normal hydrogen electrode, the TiO2/CuO mixture exhibited good photocatalytic hydrogen production performance because of the inter-particle charge transfer between the two NPs. The detailed mechanism of the photocatalytic hydrogen production is discussed. This mixing method does not require a complicated chemical process and allows mass production of the photocatalysts.  相似文献

The photocatalytic water splitting is a promising process for producing H2 from two abundant renewable sources of water and solar light, with the aid of a suitable photocatalyst. In this work, a combination of sensitizer addition and noble metal loading was employed to modify perovskite photocatalysts in order to achieve the enhancement of photocatalytic H2 production under visible light irradiation. The dependence of the H2 production on type of mesoporous-assembled perovskite titanate nanocrystal photocatalysts (MgTiO3, CaTiO3, and SrTiO3), calcination temperature of photocatalyst, Pt loading, type and concentration of electron donor (diethanolamine, DEA; and triethanolamine, TEA), concentration of sensitizer (Eosin Y, E.Y.), photocatalyst dosage, and initial solution pH, was systematically studied. The experimental results showed that the 0.5 wt.% Pt-loaded mesoporous-assembled SrTiO3 nanocrystal synthesized by a single-step sol-gel method and calcined at 650 °C exhibited the highest photocatalytic H2 production activity from a 15 vol% DEA aqueous solution with dissolved 0.5 mM E.Y. Moreover, the optimum photocatalyst dosage and initial solution pH for the maximum photocatalytic H2 production activity were found to be 6 g/l and 11.6, respectively.  相似文献

Cu(OH)2/TNAs photocatalyst was prepared by loading Cu(OH)2 nanoparticles on TiO2 nanotube arrays (TNAs) using a chemical bath deposition method. The amount of Cu(OH)2 loaded on the arrays was controlled by the repeated deposition times. The prepared catalyst was used to generate hydrogen under simulated solar light irradiation, and the results demonstrated that the hydrogen yield of Cu(OH)2/TNAs was 20.3 times that of the pure TNAs. Furthermore, the photocatalytic efficiency for hydrogen production decreased only 5.8% after five cycles, indicating that Cu(OH)2/TNAs photocatalyst showed excellent stability and reusability. This work presents an applicable and facile method to fabricate a highly active and stable photocatalyst for hydrogen production.  相似文献

Photocatalytic hydrogen production from water or organic compounds is a promising way to resolve our energy crisis and environmental problems in the near future. Over the past decades, many photocatalysts have been developed for solar water splitting. However, most of these photocatalysts require cocatalyst to facilitate H2 evolution reaction and noble metals as key cocatalysts are widely used. Consequently, the condition of noble metal cocatalyst including the size and valence state etc plays the key role in such photocatalytic system. Here, the size and valence state effect of Pt on photocatalytic H2 evolution over platinized TiO2 photocatalyst were studied for the first time. Surprisingly, it was found that Pt particle size does not affect the photoreaction rate with the size range of several nanometers in this work, while it is mainly depended on the valence state of Pt particles. Typically, TOFs of TiO2 photodeposited with 0.1–0.2 wt% Pt can exceed 3000 h−1.  相似文献

CuCr2O4/TiO2 heterojunction has been successfully synthesized via a facile citric acid (CA)-assisted sol-gel method. Techniques of X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and UV-vis diffuse reflectance spectrum (UV-vis DRS) have been employed to characterize the as-synthesized nanocomposites. Furthermore, photocatalytic activities of the as-obtained nanocomposites have been evaluated based on the H2 evolution from oxalic acid solution under simulated sunlight irradiation. Factors such as CuCr2O4 to TiO2 molar ratio in the composites, calcination temperature, photocatalyst mass concentration, and initial oxalic acid concentration affecting the photocatalytic hydrogen producing have been studied in detail. The results showed that the nanocomposite of CuCr2O4/TiO2 is more efficient than their single part of CuCr2O4 or TiO2 in producing hydrogen. The optimized composition of the nanocomposites has been found to be CuCr2O4·0.7TiO2. And the optimized calcination temperature and photocatalyst mass concentration are 500 °C and 0.8 g l−1, respectively. The influence of initial oxalic acid concentration is consistent with the Langmuir model.  相似文献

Efficient Cu incorporated TiO2 (Cu–TiO2) photocatalysts for hydrogen generation were fabricated by four methods: in situ sol–gel, wet impregnation, chemical reduction of Cu salt, and in situ photo-deposition. All prepared samples are characterized by good dispersion of Cu components, and excellent light absorption ability. Depending on the preparation process, hydrogen generation rates of the as-prepared Cu–TiO2 were recorded in the range of 9–20 mmol h−1 gcatalyst−1, which were even more superior to some noble metal (Pt/Au) loaded TiO2. The various fabrication methods led to different chemical states of Cu, as well as different distribution ratio of Cu between surface and bulk phases of the photocatalyst. Both factors have been proven to influence photocatalytic hydrogen generation. In addition, the Cu content in the photocatalyst played a significant role in hydrogen generation. Among the four photocatalysts, the sample that was synthesized by in situ sol–gel method exhibited the highest stability. High efficiency, low cost, good stability are some of the merits that underline the promising potential of Cu–TiO2 in photocatalytic hydrogen generation.  相似文献

Enhanced hydrogen production by photocatalytic decomposition was assessed using liquid phase plasma over metal-loaded photocatalysts. Effects of irradiation of the liquid phase plasma were evaluated in the photocatalytic hydrogen production of hydrogen. Carbon nanofiber was introduced as photocatalytic support for the Ni-loaded TiO2 photocatalyst. The influence of addition of organic reagents into water on hydrogen evolution was also evaluated. The photocatalytic decomposition by irradiation of the liquid phase plasma without photocatalyst produced some hydrogen evolution. The rate of hydrogen evolution was improved by the metal loading on the TiO2 surface. The carbon nanofiber acted as a useful photocatalytic support for the fixation of TiO2. Hydrogen evolution was enhanced by the Ni loading on the TiO2 nanocrystallites supported on the carbon nanofiber support. Hydrogen evolution was increased significantly by the addition of organic reagents, which acted as a type of sacrificial reagent promoting photocatalysis.  相似文献

Photo-assisted hydrogen generation studies of platinum loaded titanium (IV) oxide nanotubes suspended in ethanol–water mixture were carried out at room temperature. The TiO2 nanotubes synthesized by rapid breakdown anodization technique were loaded with Pt nanoparticles by chemical reduction of aqueous chloroplatinic acid solution using sodium borohydride. The chemisorption (active) surface area of the synthesized nanocomposites for hydrogen was measured by pulse chemisorption method using temperature programmed desorption reduction oxidation equipment and found to decrease with increase in platinum loading in the range 1–10 wt%. The platinum supported nanotube composites were characterized for phase and morphology by XRD, TEM and SEM. The hydrogen generated by the photocatalytic reduction of water from water–ethanol mixture at different wavelengths of incident light, using the Pt-TiO2 nanocomposite photocatalyst, was determined by using a proton exchange membrane based hydrogen meter. The highest hydrogen generation efficiency was observed at 1–2.5 wt% of Pt loading. The maximum photocatalytic hydrogen generation of 0.03 mol/h/g of Pt-TiO2 was observed with a 64 W UV light source (λ = 254 nm). The photoluminescence property of the Pt loaded TiO2 has been correlated with the hydrogen generation efficiency and the reaction mechanism briefly discussed.  相似文献

Photocatalysts CuS/TiO2 for hydrogen production were synthesized by hydrothermal method at high temperature and characterized by XRD, UV–visible DRS, XPS, EDX, SEM and TEM. When TiO2 was loaded with CuS, it showed photocatalytic activities for water decomposition to hydrogen in methanol aqueous solution under 500 W Xe lamp. Among the photocatalysts with various compositions, the one with 1 wt% CuS-loaded TiO2 showed the maximum photocatalytic activity for water splitting, which indicated CuS could improve the separation ratio of photoexcited electrons and holes. What's more, the amounts of the produced hydrogen was about 570 μmol h−1, which had exceeded pure titania (P25) 32 times. In the present paper, it is proven that CuS can act as an effective co-catalyst to enhance the photocatalytic H2 production activity of TiO2.  相似文献

Highly dispersed CuO was introduced into TiO2 nanotube (TNT) made by hydrothermal method via adsorption-calcination process or wet impregnation process, to fabricate CuO incorporated TNT photocatalysts (CuO-TNT) for hydrogen production. It was found that CuO-TNT possessed excellent hydrogen generation activity, which was constantly vigorous throughout 5 h reaction. Depending on the preparation method, hydrogen evolution rates over CuO-TNT were founded in the range of 64.2-71.6 mmol h−1 g−1catalyst, which was much higher than the benchmark P25 based photocatalysts, and even superior to some Pt/Ni incorporated TNT. This high photocatalytic activity of CuO-TNT was mainly attributed to the unique 1-D tubular structure, large BET surface area and high dispersion of copper component. Compared to wet impregnation, adsorption-calcination process was superior to produce active photocatalyst, since it was prone to produce photocatalyst with more highly dispersed CuO.  相似文献

The photocatalytic activity in hydrogen production from methanol reforming can be significantly enhanced by Pt/MoO3/TiO2 photocatalysts. Compared with Pt/P25, the photocatalytic activity of optimized Pt/MoO3/TiO2 shows an evolution rate of 169 μmol/h/g of hydrogen, which is almost two times higher than that of Pt/P25. XRD and Raman spectra show that MoO3 are formed on the surface of TiO2. It is found that with the bulk MoO3 just formed, the catalyst shows the highest activity due to a large amount of heterojunctions and the high crystallinity of MoO3. The HRTEM image showed a close contact between MoO3 and TiO2. It is proposed that the Z-scheme type of heterojunction between MoO3 and TiO2 is responsible for the improved photocatalytic activity. The heterojunction structure of MoO3/TiO2 does not only promote the charge separation, but also separates the reaction sites, where the oxidation (mainly on MoO3) and reduction (on TiO2) reactions occurred.  相似文献

Stability and efficiency of photocatalysts are important to realize the practical applications of them for photocatalytic hydrogen production from industrial sulfide effluent. Novel, magnetically separable core–shell nano photocatalysts viz., CdS/Fe2O3, ZnS/Fe2O3 and (CdS + ZnS)/Fe2O3 were prepared and their hydrogen evolution activity under visible light was examined. The XRD result shows that CdS and ZnS were very well coated on the surface of the iron oxide core shell particles. The HR-TEM result also confirms the core shell formation. (CdS + ZnS)/Fe2O3 evolved higher volume of hydrogen than the other catalysts. It is ascribed to rapid migration of excited electrons from (CdS + ZnS) toward Fe2O3 suppressing electron hole annihilation compared to other catalysts. The catalysts can be easily recovered from the reaction medium using external magnetic bar and so the photocatalyst can be reused without any mass loss. Hence, it can be a potential catalyst for recovery of hydrogen from industrial sulfide containing waste streams.  相似文献

The CuO/SnO2 composites have been prepared by the simple co-precipitation method and further characterized by the XRD, FESEM and Raman spectroscopy. The photocatalytic H2 production from acetic acid (HAc) solution over CuO/SnO2 photocatalyst has been investigated at room temperature under UV irradiation. Effects of CuO loading, photocatalyst concentration, acetic acid concentration and pH on H2 production have been systematically studied. Compared with pure SnO2, the 33.3 mol%CuO/SnO2 composite exhibited approximately twentyfold enhancement of H2 production. The H2 yield is about 0.66 mol-H2/mol-HAc obtained under irradiation for prolonged time. The Langmuir-type model is applied to study the dependence of hydrogen production rate on HAc concentration. A possible mechanism for photocatalytic degradation of acetic acid over CuO/SnO2 photocatalyst is proposed as well. Our results provide a method for pollutants removal with simultaneous hydrogen generation. Due to simple preparation, high H2 production activity and low cost, the CuO/SnO2 photocatalyst will find wide application in the coming future of hydrogen economy.  相似文献

The influence of redox-treated Pt/TiO2 photocatalysts on H2 production is investigated. Catalyst characterizations are performed by TEM, XPS, XRD, BET, and UV–vis/DR spectroscopy techniques. In terms of production rate, the oxidation treatment shows higher reactivity than the reduction treatment. The reduction treatment allows the formation of metallic Pt(0), which more easily catalyzes the transition of TiO2 from the anatase to the rutile phases. Reduction-treated Pt/TiO2 photocatalysts have lower SBET values than oxidation-treated Pt/TiO2 photocatalysts due to the higher percentage of TiO2 in the rutile phase. Combining the results of XPS and optical analyses, PtO/TiO2 shows a higher energy band gap than metallic Pt(0)/TiO2, indicating that oxidation-treated Pt/TiO2 is more capable of achieving water splitting for H2 production. According to the results of this study, the oxidation treatment of Pt/TiO2 photocatalysts can significantly enhance the reactivity of photocatalytic H2 production because of their homogenous distribution, lower phase transition, higher SBET, and higher energy band gap.  相似文献

This work reports a green and facile approach to synthesize chemically bonded TiO2/graphene sheets (GS) nanocomposites using a one-step hydrothermal method. The as-prepared composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, Raman spectroscopy and ultraviolet visible (UV-Vis) diffuse reflectance spectra. The photocatalytic activity was evaluated by hydrogen evolution from water splitting under UV-Vis light illumination. An enhancement of photocatalytic hydrogen evolution was observed over the TiO2/GS composite photocatalysts, as 1.6 times larger for TiO2/2.0 wt%GS than that of Degussa P25. This fabrication process features the reduction of graphene oxide and formation of TiO2 simultaneously leading to the well dispersion of generated TiO2 nanoparticles on the surface of GS.  相似文献
