Analytical Relationships for Designing Rectangular Drip Irrigation Units   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Approximate analytical expressions were obtained that relate uniformity indices of water distribution in rectangular drip irrigation units as a function of the variables that define that unit: lengths and diameters of laterals and submain, spacing of emitters and laterals, ground slopes, parameters of the emitter discharge equation, and equivalent lengths characterizing local losses. The proposed expressions offer greater precision than might be needed in irrigation practice. They do not require iterative calculations and improve the procedures normally used. They may be useful in the design of drip irrigation units and in their evaluation and management. An example of their application is offered. The proposed relationships simplify studies of the sensitivity of variables involved in optimum hydraulic design. Users are thus allowed a rational understanding of their influence, improving that which can be gained from computer programs. Graphs obtained with the mentioned expressions are also offered. They can be of interest, although their use is not treated specifically in this paper.  相似文献

On the basis of theoretical considerations, the technical note presents two practical formulas for the dimensioning of air valves when filling a pipe with water. One is to be used for designing air valves on the basis of the maximum allowed water hammer overpressures; the other when the maximum in pipe water velocity is set. Air chamber design is usually accomplished by the use of charts or numerical models based on the classic boundary condition of a constant-level downstream reservoir. However, a constant-level downstream reservoir typically does not exist in currently operating facilities. The downstream end of the rising main is usually designed with the outlet at a level above the maximum allowed in the receiving reservoir. Such a scheme is usually chosen in order to avoid the loss of stored water in case of leakage or breakdown of the pipeline. For this reason, the final section of the discharge pipeline is often fitted with a vertical pipe with free outflow. This particular downstream condition influences the transient state that occurs following a power failure in the pump. In this paper, we focus on the variations of maximum and minimum pressures and water-level oscillations that arise in the terminal section of the rising main, by means of complete transient analysis. The rigid water column model is used to provide design charts for preliminary design. A numerical investigation using dimensionless parameters is performed to investigate the system behavior within the significant ranges of system-characteristic quantities. Field experiments were performed on a pump–pipeline discharge system located in a water supply system in southern Italy. The recorded pressure traces are compared with results obtained from a model that accounts for this particular downstream boundary condition.  相似文献

Designing for construction safety entails consideration of the safety of construction workers in the design of a project. Research studies have identified the design aspect of projects as being a significant contributing factor to construction site accidents. Designing to eliminate or avoid hazards prior to exposure on the jobsite is also listed as the top priority in the hierarchy of controls common to the safety and health professions. Widespread implementation of the concept in the United States by engineering and architecture firms, however, is lacking due to perceived industry and project barriers. Given its absence from standard design practice, a question arises as to the viability of designing for safety as an intervention in the construction industry. This paper presents a pilot study that was conducted to investigate the practice of addressing construction worker safety when designing a project and to determine the feasibility and practicality of such an intervention. Through interviews of architects and engineers, the study found that a large percentage of design professionals are interested and willing to implement the concept in practice. Among the perceived impacts of implementation, project cost and schedule were mentioned most often along with limitations being placed on design creativity. The results of the pilot study indicate that designing for safety is a viable intervention in construction. The factors that impact the consideration of safety in the design of a project do not entirely prohibit its implementation or make its implementation extremely impractical and therefore not feasible. Additionally, the outcomes of implementation provide sufficient motivation to implement the concept in practice. The paper describes the key changes needed for implementation of the concept in practice which include: a change in designer mindset toward safety; establishment of a motivational force to promote designing for safety; increase designer knowledge of the concept; incorporate construction safety knowledge in the design phase; utilize designers knowledgeable about design-for-safety modifications; make design for safety tools and guidelines available for use and reference; and mitigate designer liability exposure.  相似文献
