In addition to the advantage of the lightweight of magnesium alloys, magnesium composites have moderate strength and elastic modulus. The proposed application of magnesium composites as diesel truck pistons makes it necessary to assess their wear performance. Little research data have been discussed on wear behavior of Mg alloy AE42 matrix and its composites. Thus, this paper reports wear behavior of magnesium alloy AE42(Mg–Al–Mn—RE; rare earth) and its composite AE42-C, which contains 23 vol% of randomly oriented carbon short fibers. Materials characterization, including density measurements, hardness testing, microstructures investigation, and compression testing at temperatures of 25, 150,and 300 °C, were conducted. Wear tests were performed under various loads and sliding distances. Wear mechanisms were also proposed based on the examination of worn surfaces using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy equipped with EDX(energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry) analysis system. The hardness of AE42-23 vol% C composite is twice the hardness of the Mg matrix alloy AE42. Significant improvements to yield stress and compressive strength at temperatures of 25, 150, and 300 °C of the composite versus the AE42 alloy are achieved. Wear resistance of the composite is improved considerably versus that of the Mg alloy AE42 at the various sliding distances. Smearing of graphite on the worn surface produces a lubricating film that delays change from mild to severe wear of the composite, especially at high loads. EDX analysis of the worn surface shows oxidation of the matrix alloy at higher wear loads, and this mechanism decreases in the presence of carbon fibers under the same loads. Abrasive wear, oxidation, and plastic deformation are the dominant wear mechanisms for the alloy matrix AE42, whereas mainly abrasive wear is the wear mechanism of AE42-23 vol% C composite under the proposed testing conditions.  相似文献

The microstructure, texture, residual stress, and tensile properties of Mg–6 Zn–2 Y–1 La–0.5 Zr(wt%) magnesium alloy were investigated before and after extrusion process, which performed at 300 °C and 400 °C. The microstructural characterizations indicated that the as-cast alloy was comprised of α-Mg, Mg–Zn, Mg–Zn–La, and Mg–Zn–Y phases. During homogenization at 400 °C for 24 h, most of the secondary phases exhibited partial dissolution. Extrusion process led to a remarkable grain refi nement due to dynamic recrystallization(DRX). The degree of DRX and the DRXed grain size increased with increasing extrusion temperature. The homogenized alloy did not show a preferential crystallographic orientation, whereas the extruded alloys showed strong basal texture. The extrusion process led to a signifi cant improvement on the compressive residual stress and mechanical properties. The alloy extruded at 300 °C exhibited the highest basal texture intensity, the compressive residual stress and hardness, and yield and tensile strengths among the studied alloys.  相似文献

The microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion behavior of Mg–2 Zn–0.6 Zr alloy under the as-cast and asextruded conditions were investigated. Microstructure analysis indicated the remarkable grain refinement by extrusion, as well as notable reductions in volume fraction and size of precipitate phases. As compared with the as-cast alloy, the asextruded alloy exhibited better mechanical performance, especially in yield strength which was promoted from 51 to 194 MPa. Refined grains, dispersive precipitate phases and texture were thought to be the main factors affecting the improved performance in strength. The electrochemical measurement and immersion test revealed the corrosion rate of Mg–2 Zn–0.6 Zr alloy by extrusion decreased from 1.68 to 0.32 mm/year. The reasons for the enhanced corrosion resistance were mainly attributed to the decreased volume fraction and Volta potential of the precipitate phases, the refinement of the grain size, as well as the formation of more protective corrosion film.  相似文献

To improve the wear and corrosion properties of AZ91D magnesium alloys, Cu-based amorphous composite coatings were fabricated on AZ91D magnesium alloy by laser cladding using mixed powders of Cu47Ti34Zr11Ni8 and SiC. The wear and corrosion behaviours of the coatings were investigated. The wear resistance of the coatings was evaluated under dry sliding wear condition at room temperature. The corrosion resistance of the coatings was tested in 3.5% (mass fraction) NaCl solution. The coatings exhibit excellent wear resistance due to the recombined action of amorphous phase and different intermetallic compounds. The main wear mechanisms of the coatings and the AZ91D sample are different. The former is abrasive wear and the latter is adhesive wear. The coatings compared with AZ91D magnesium alloy also exhibit good corrosion resistance because of the presence of the amorphous phase in the coatings.  相似文献

The microstructural, mechanical and corrosion properties of different cold-rolled biomedical nickel-free highnitrogen stainless steels(NFHNSSs) were investigated to study the effect of cold deformation on its dry wear resistance as well as corrosion–wear behaviors in distilled water and Hank's solution. The results indicated that NFHNSS was characterized by stable austenite and possessed excellent work-hardening capacity; due to increasing cold deformation, the corrosion resistance just decreased very slightly and the dry wear rate decreased initially but subsequently increased, while the corrosion–wear resistance was improved monotonically in both distilled water and Hank's solution in spite of the presence of corrosive ions. The friction coefficients for different cold-rolled NFHNSSs were very close under the same lubricating condition, but they were the largest in distilled water compared to that in dry wear tests and Hank's solution.  相似文献

In the present study, pure magnesium was in situ coated with pre-alloyed Al–Cu–Mg alloy through hot pressing. The produced samples were characterized by means of hardness, wear properties and microstructure characterization. A ball-on-disk test was used to determine the dry sliding wear characteristics of the compacts. The results showed that the hot pressing technique has been successfully applied for producing magnesium parts with compatible wear resistance and hardness to aluminum. The in situ coating of Al on Mg by hot pressing resulted in an increase in hardness of about 30% compared with the pure Mg substrate. The wear rate and friction coefficient of the samples decreased with Al coating and increased with an increase in the applied load during the wear tests, compared with the uncoated material.  相似文献

Magnesium alloys based on Nd and Zn are promising materials for both aviation industry and medical applications.Superior mechanical properties of these materials can be achieved by thermomechanical processing such as extrusion or rolling and by aging treatment, which can significantly strengthen the alloy. The question remains especially about the connection of texture strength created in the alloys based on the specific conditions of preparation. This work focuses on the Mg–3 Nd–0.5 Zn magnesium alloy prepared by hot extrusion of the as-cast state at two different temperatures combined with heat pre-treatment. Extrusion ratio of 16 and rate of 0.2 mm/s at 350 and 400 °C were selected for material preparation. The structures of prepared materials were studied by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The effect of microstructure on mechanical properties was evaluated. Obtained results revealed the strong effect of thermal pre-treatment on final microstructure and mechanical properties of extruded materials. The Hall–Petch relation between grain size and tensile yield strength has been suggested in this paper based on the literature review and presented data. The observed behavior strongly supports the fact that the Hall–Petch of extruded Mg–3Nd–0.5 Zn alloys with different texture intensities cannot be clearly estimated and predicted. In addition, Hall–Petch relations presented in literature can be sufficiently obtained only for fraction of the Mg–3Nd–0.5 Zn alloys.  相似文献

As-extruded Mg–Sr alloy, a kind of promising biodegradable biomedical material, was coated using micro-arc oxidation and also using a phosphate conversion coating. The corrosion behaviors were investigated using Hanks' solution. The corrosion of the as-extruded Mg–Sr alloy became more serious with increasing immersion time; that is, the corrosion pits became more numerous, larger and deeper. The micro-arc oxidation coating and the phosphate conversion coating were effective in improving the corrosion resistance of the as-extruded Mg–Sr alloy. The micro-arc oxidation coating was much more effective. Moreover, the as-extruded Mg–Sr alloy and the coated as-extruded Mg–Sr alloy exhibited lower corrosion rates than the as-cast Mg–Sr alloy and the corresponding coated as-cast Mg–Sr alloy, indicating that the corrosion properties of the coated samples are dependent on their substrates. The finer microstructure of the substrate of the as-extruded condition corroded much slower. The corrosion resistance of the coated Mg–Sr alloy depended on the coating itself and on the microstructure of the substrate.  相似文献

The sliding friction and wear behaviors of Mg-11Y-5Gd-2Zn-0.5Zr (wt%) alloy were investigated under oil lubricant condition by pin-on-disk configuration with a constant sliding distance of 1,000 m in the temperature range of 25-200℃. Results indicate that the volumetric wear rates and average friction coefficients decrease with the increase of sliding speeds, and increase with the increase of test temperature below 150℃. The hard and thermally stable Mg12(Y,Gd)Zn phase with long-period stacking order structure in the alloy presents significant wear resistance, The wear mechanism below 100℃ is abrasive wear as a result of plastic extrusion deformation. The corporate effects of severe abrasive, oxidative, and delaminating wear result in the tribological mechanism above 100℃.  相似文献

To solve the problem of poor wear resistance in conventional Hadfield steels under medium and low stress,a new kind of steel with high silicon and high manganese Fe–17Mn–6Si–0.3C was designed and its wear resistance was studied. The results showed that it exhibited better wear resistance than conventional Hadfield steel in both dry friction and abrasive friction. The better wear resistance of the new steel with high silicon and high manganese resulted from the stressinduced γ→ε martensitic transformation.  相似文献

Mg–Zn–Ag alloys have been extensively studied in recent years for potential biodegradable implants due to their unique mechanical properties, biodegradability and biocompatibility. In the present study,Mg–3Zn-x Ag(wt%,x=0.2,0.5 and0.8)alloys with single-phase crystal structure were prepared by backward extrusion at 340°C.The addition of Ag element into Mg–3Zn slightly influences the ultimate tensile strength and microstructure, but the elongation firstly increases from12%to 19.8%and then decreases from 19.8%to 9.9%with the increment of Ag concentration. The tensile yield strength, ultimate tensile strength and elongation of Mg–3Zn–0.2Ag alloy reach up to 142,234 MPa and 19.8%,respectively,which are the best mechanical performance of Mg–Zn–Ag alloys in the present work. The extruded Mg–3Zn–0.2Ag alloy also possesses the best corrosion behavior with the corresponding corrosion rate of 3.2 mm/year in immersion test, which could be explained by the single-phase and uniformly distributed grain structure, and the fewer twinning.  相似文献

The microstructure and anti-corrosion behavior of Mg–Mn alloys by magnesium scrap have been investigated in this study. The results show that the size of the Fe-rich particles in magnesium scrap decreases but the quantity increases with the Mn addition.Although the presence of Mn-containing Fe-rich particles with unique symbiotic structure can eff ectively weaken the micro-galvanic corrosion, the presence of more free Fe(Fe-rich particles) does not necessarily lead to severe corrosion of the alloy. The corrosion susceptibility of Mg–Mn–Fe alloy primarily depends on the solubility of iron in the Mg matrix, while it can be significantly reduced by suitable Mn addition.Besides, the tolerance limit of the Fe impurity can be expressed as Fe_(max) = 0.0083 Mn(relative to the iron solubility).Only when the Fe/Mn ratio is below 0.0083 can the alloy have excellent corrosion resistance, with the corrosion rate changing in the scope of 0.38 ± 0.09 to 0.54 ± 0.15 mg/cm~2 day and i_(corr) from 3 to 9 × 10~(–4) A/cm~2.  相似文献

In this study, the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion behaviors of a Zn–1.6 Mg(wt%) alloy during multipass rotary die equal channel angle pressing(RD-ECAP) processing at 150 °C were systematically investigated. The results indicated that a Zn + Mg_2 Zn_(11) + MgZn_2 ternary eutectic structure was formed in as-cast Zn–Mg alloy. After ECAP, the primary Zn matrix turned to fine dynamic recrystallization(DRX) grains, and the network-shaped eutectic structure was crushed into fine particles and blended with DRX grains. Owing to the refined microstructure, dispersed eutectic structure and dynamically precipitated precipitates, the 8 p-ECAP alloy possessed the optimal mechanical properties with ultimate tensile strength of 474 MPa and elongation of 7%. Moreover, the electrochemical results showed that the ECAP alloys exhibited similar corrosion rates with that of as-cast alloys in simulated body fluid, which suggests that a high-strength Zn–Mg alloy was successfully developed without sacrifice of the corrosion resistance.  相似文献

The Mg–12Gd–1Er–1Zn–0.9 Zr(wt%) alloy with ultra-high strength and ductility was developed via hot extrusion combined with pre-deformation and two-stage aging treatment. The age-hardening behavior and microstructure evolution were investigated.Pre-deformation introduced a large number of dislocations, resulting in strain hardening and higher precipitation strengthening in the subsequent two-stage aging. As a result, the alloy showed a superior strength–ductility balance with a yield strength of 506 MPa,an ultimate tensile strength of 549 MPa and an elongation of 8.2% at room temperature. The finer and denser β' precipitates significantly enhanced the strength, and the bimodal structure, small β-Mg_5RE phase as well as dense γ' precipitates ensured the good ductility of the alloy. It is suggested that the combination of pre-deformation and two-stage aging treatment is an eff ective method to further improve the mechanical properties of wrought Mg alloys.  相似文献

A direct electroless Ni-P plating treatment was applied to AZ91D magnesium alloy for improving its corrosion resistance and wear resistance. Corrosion resistance of the Ni-P coatings was evaluated by potentiodynamic polarization and immersing experiments in 3.5% NaCl solution. The wear resistance of the coatings was investigated by the wear track and the mass change after ball-on-disk experiment. The results show that corrosion resistance and wear resistance of the AZ91D alloy are greatly improved after direct electroless Ni-P plating. No discoloration is noticed until 4 d of immersion in 3.5% NaC1 solution. Potentiodynamic polarization experiments show that the free corrosion potential of magnesium alloy is shifted from -1 500 mV to -250 mV and passivation occurs at 1 350 mV after direct electroless plating. The friction coefficients and wear rates of Ni-P coating and Ni-P coating after tempering are 0.10-0.351, 9.038×10^-3 mm^3/m and 0.13-0.177, 3.056×10^-4 mm^3/m, respectively, at a load of 1.5 N with dry sliding. Although minor hurt on corrosion resistance was caused, significant improvement of wear resistance was obtained after tempering treatment of the coating.  相似文献

The effects of Ce addition on microstructure and electromagnetic interference(EMI) shielding response of Mg–6Zn–0.5Zr(ZK60) alloy have been investigated.Ce addition resulted in grain refinement and higher density of Mg–Zn–Ce and Mg Zn2 intermetallic particles in the alloy. In particular, this was substantially remarkable as the addition of Ce was up to 1.0 wt%.It is interesting to note that as-extruded ZK60 alloy with 1.0 wt% Ce addition exhibited an EMI shielding effectiveness(SE) exceeding 70 d B at the frequency range of 30–1,500 MHz,which was significantly higher than that of ZK60 alloy without Ce addition and reached the requirement of high protection. The superior SE was probably related to the increased reflection and multiple reflection of electromagnetic radiation induced by Ce addition.Direct artificial aging at 150 °C for 25 or 50 h led to a further increase of 7–10 d B in the SE of the alloy with 1.0 wt% Ce addition. The advantages of excellent shielding capacity and favorable mechanical strength make the Mg–Zn–Zr–Ce alloy an attractive shielding candidate material for a variety of technological applications.  相似文献

The corrosion and high-temperature oxidation characteristics of AM60 Mg alloy in different environments were investigated by immersion test, electrochemical polarizing analysis and differential thermal analysis (DTA)/thermo gravimetric (TG) experiments. The influence of aging heat treatment on the corrosion resistance of AM60 Mg alloy was studied. AM60 Mg alloy shows better corrosion resistance in sea water than in 3.5%(mass fraction) NaCI solution. The corrosion resistance after aging for 24 h is better than that of both as-cast and aging for 48 h. Corrosion resistance of Mg alloy is controlled by microstructure, composition of a-matrix. Precipitation offl phase along the grain boundaries acts as a barrier that decreases corrosion rate, whereas the decrease of aluminum content of a phase causes an increase in the corrosion rate. The DTA and TG curves of heating process in air are characterized with combustion after 590℃. When heated in helium, the curves show two endothermic peaks and a remarkable evaporation of magnesium. As for isothermal DTA and TG experiments, mass increment caused by oxidation does not happen till 520 ℃.  相似文献

Mg–Sr alloy has been studied as a potential biodegradable material with excellent bioactivity to promote the bone formation. However, its degradation behavior needs to be well controlled to avoid the negative effect, which is important for future application. Therefore in this study, the microstructure and its effect on corrosion behavior of an Mg–1.5 Sr alloy were investigated. The microstructures of the alloy under different processing procedures were characterized by both optical and scanning electron microscopes. The corrosion performance was studied in Hank's solution using immersion, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS) tests. The results showed that the grain size and the amount and distribution of b-Mg_(17)Sr_2 had obvious effects on the corrosion behavior of Mg–Sr alloy. The smaller the grain size was, the more the protective surface layer formed on Mg–Sr alloy, and the higher the corrosion resistance was. For the as-cast Mg–Sr alloy, the network-like second phases precipitated along the grain boundaries could not hinder the corrosion due to their own corrosion cracking accelerating the intergranular corrosion. However, the refinement of second phases increased the corrosion resistance of the as-extruded alloy. After solution treatment at 450 °C for 5 h, the grains in the alloy did not grow much and b-Mg_(17)Sr_2 phases homogenously distributed in the alloy, resulting in the increase in corrosion resistance. However, after aging treatment, large amount of precipitated second phases increased the galvanic corrosion of the alloy, accelerating the development of corrosion.  相似文献

Solution treatment is a useful way to improve the degradation resistance of Mg alloys. In this work, effects of solution treatment temperature on mechanical and biodegradable properties of an extruded Mg–2Zn–1Gd–0.5Zr alloy were studied.Microstructure analysis, tensile test, three-point bending test, immersion test and electrochemical test were performed. The results showed that increasing solution temperature decreases the mechanical properties of the alloy. However, three-point bending test revealed that the solution-treated alloy at 510 ℃ could maintain 95% of its maximum bending force(F_(max)) during the 28-day immersion period. After treatment at 510 ℃ for 5 h, all the second phases were dissolved into the alloy, the galvanic corrosion was inhibited, and the alloy exhibited good corrosion resistance with a corrosion rate of 0.35 mm·year~(-1) in Hank's solution.  相似文献

The effects of the rare earth element Y addition on mechanical properties and energy absorption of a low Zn content Mg–Zn–Zr system alloy and the deformation temperature of optimized alloy were investigated by room tensile test, optical microscopy(OM), X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), and transmission electron microscope(TEM). The results show that, after homogenization at 420 °C for 12 h for the as-cast alloys, Mg Zn phase forms, which decreases the strength of Mg–2.0Zn–0.3Zr alloy with Y content of 0.9 wt%. The tensile strength and elongation of the alloy with a Y addition of 5.8 wt% reach the max value(281 ± 2) MPa and(30.1 ± 0.7) %, respectively; the strength and elongation of Mg–2.0Zn–0.3Zr–0.9Y alloy at the optimized extrusion temperature of 330 °C reach(321 ± 1) MPa and(21.9 ± 0.7) %, respectively. The energy absorption increases with the increase of Y content, the max value reached 0.79 MJ m-3with Y content of 5.8 wt%, and the energy absorption of Mg–2.0Zn–0.3Zr–0.9Y alloy at the optimized extrusion temperature of 330 °C reaches0.75 MJ m-3.  相似文献
