Supply chain (SC) models play an important role in supply chain management (SCM) for reducing costs and finding better ways to create and deliver value to customers. An approach to deriving the membership function of the fuzzy minimum total cost of the multi-product, multi-echelon, and multi-period SC model with fuzzy parameters is proposed in this article. On the basis of α-cut representation and the extension principle, a pair of mathematical programs are formulated to calculate the lower and upper bounds of the fuzzy minimum total cost at possibility level α. The membership function of the fuzzy minimum total cost is constructed by enumerating different values of α. To demonstrate the validity of the proposed procedure, a four-echelon five-period SC model with fuzzy parameters is solved successfully. Since the objective value is expressed by membership functions rather than by crisp values, they completely conserve the fuzziness of input information when some of the SC data are ambiguous. Thus the proposed approach can represent SCs with fuzzy parameters more accurately, and more information is provided for designing SCs in real-world applications.  相似文献

This paper focuses on pricing strategies, inventory policies for a supply chain when Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology is adopted to cope with inventory inaccuracy. The supply chain consists of one supplier and one retailer, in which the RFID tag price is shared between the supplier and the retailer. We present and compare the performance differences between a wholesale price contract and a consignment contract when the retailer is the Stackelberg leader and the supplier is the follower. Based on the optimal pricing and inventory decisions, an interesting observation of contract selection is that there are two critical values of inventory available rate such that when the inventory availability is less than the lower value, both the supplier and the retailer prefer a consignment contract; when the inventory availability is greater than the upper value, a wholesale price contract is their best choice; when the inventory availability is between the two values, the supplier prefers a wholesale price contract and the retailer prefers a consignment contract. Additionally, there exist threshold values of RFID tag price and sharing rate to determine the contract preference for the retailer. Furthermore, the profits of both the supplier and the retailer are independent of the RFID tag price sharing rate in a wholesale price contract, and the supplier has the incentive to invest in RFID tag cost in a consignment contract.  相似文献

This paper presents a single vendor–single buyer coordinated model. The vendor produces a single deteriorating item and transfers it to the buyer in equal shipments. The model is based on vendor managed inventory with consignment stock (VMI-CS) agreement in which the vendor uses the buyer’s warehouse. The buyer stocks items both on his shelf and in his warehouse. The demand is assumed to be linearly sensitive to inventory level and selling price. The objective is to determine variables that maximise the total profit. An exact solution procedure is proposed to find the optimal solution. Numerical results show that supply chain members will benefit from the advantages of economies of scale in coordinated model with VMI-CS policy.  相似文献

This research focuses on managing disruption risk in supply chains using inventory and reserve capacity under stochastic demand. While inventory can be considered as a speculative risk mitigation lever, reserve capacity can be used in a reactive fashion when a disruption occurs. We determine optimal inventory levels and reserve capacity production rates for a firm that is exposed to supply chain disruption risk. We fully characterise four main risk mitigation strategies: inventory strategy, reserve capacity strategy, mixed strategy and passive acceptance. We illustrate how the optimal risk mitigation strategy depends on product characteristics (functional versus innovative) and supply chain characteristics (agile versus efficient). This work is inspired from a risk management problem of a leading pharmaceutical company.  相似文献

The pressure to reduce inventory has increased as competition expands, product variety grows, and capital costs increase. This investigation addresses the problem of inventory quantification and distribution within multi-echelon supply chains under market uncertainty and management flexibility. This approach is based on an optimisation model emphasising demand uncertainty and the relevant dimensions of network design as number of echelons, lead time, service level, and cost of processing activities. Overstock quantification enables the understanding of inventory level sensitivity to market uncertainty. A comparison among production sites and storage facilities revealed that higher downstream overstock levels decrease upstream echelons of uncertainty exposition. The contribution of this study relies on management's ability to establish inventory targets for each stocking point according to risk exposure and to promote the optimisation of working capital. Overall, this investigation increases knowledge related to the treatment of demand uncertainty in flexible and integrated supply chains  相似文献

Although many products are made through several tiers of supply chains, a systematic way of handling reliability issues in a various product planning stage has drawn attention, only recently, in the context of supply chain management (SCM). The main objective of this paper is to develop a fuzzy quality function deployment (QFD) model in order to convey fuzzy relationship between customers needs and design specification for reliability in the context of SCM. A fuzzy multi criteria decision-making procedure is proposed and is applied to find a set of optimal solution with respect to the performance of the reliability test needed in CRT design. It is expected that the proposed approach can make significant contributions on the following areas: effectively communicating with technical personnel and users; developing relatively error-free reliability review system; and creating consistent and complete documentation for design for reliability.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate how buyers’ and suppliers’ distinct perceptions of technology uncertainty affect the relationship between communication frequency and supplier performance. Information processing theory suggests that a fit is desirable between perceived environmental uncertainty and the communication processes between organisations. However, if partners in a buyer-supplier relationship do not concur on the high level of technology uncertainty, it is highly questionable whether increased communication will be effective in increasing supplier performance. Using dyadic data from 86 buyer-supplier relationships, involving 388 respondents, we found that communication frequency was positively related to supplier performance only when both suppliers and buyers perceived high levels of technology uncertainty. When buyers perceived greater technology uncertainty than their suppliers, communication frequency was negatively related to supplier performance. The findings in this study show that it is important to take the distinct perceptions of buyers and suppliers of technology uncertainty into account when assessing the effects of communication frequency. It appears that increased communication is only effective when both parties acknowledge the need to communicate, and can be unfavourable when only one party sees the benefits of it.  相似文献

This paper investigates a two-stage supply chain consisting of a capacitated supplier and a retailer that faces a stationary random demand. Both the supplier and the retailer employ base stock policies for inventory replenishment. All unsatisfied demand is backlogged and the customer backorder cost is shared between the supplier and the retailer. We investigate the determination of decentralized inventory decisions when the two parties optimize their individual inventory-related costs in a noncooperative manner. We explicitly characterize the Nash equilibrium inventory strategies and identify the causes of inefficiency in the decentralized operation. We then study a set of simple linear contracts to see whether these inefficiencies can be overcome. Finally, we investigate Stackelberg games where one of the parties is assumed to be dominating.  相似文献

Many firms have been trying to optimize their production and distribution systems separately, but using this approach limits any possible increase in profit. Thus, it is becoming more important to analyse these two systems simultaneously. This paper presents the solutions for integrated production and distribution planning and investigates the effectiveness of their integration through a computational study, in a multi-plant, multi-retailer, multi-item, and multi-period logistic environment where the objective is to maximize the total net profit. Computational results on test problems using the proposed heuristic confirm the substantial advantage of the integrated planning approach over the decoupled one. Sensitivity analysis on the input parameters indicates that, under the right conditions, the effectiveness of integrating production and distribution functions can be extremely high.  相似文献

In this paper, we investigate methods for managing the irregular and uncertain demands involved in supply chain planning. We first build a supply chain planning model based on fuzzy linear programming, which defines demand as a fuzzy parameter. Next, we propose a fuzzy inference approach for converting fuzzy demand into crisp demand. In the proposed fuzzy inference-based approach, judgments of upcoming demand from both internal and external experts are used as input variables to reflect the expected demand irregularity. By adopting fuzzy inference, we can compensate for the limitations of the existing demand treatment approaches, which usually demonstrate poor forecasting performance in cases of irregular demand and thus reduce the accuracy of supply chain planning. To verify the feasibility of the proposed approach, we present an illustrative example of a Korean electronics company.  相似文献

Pricing decisions of two complementary products in a two-level fuzzy supply chain with two manufacturers and one common retailer are studied in this paper. By considering the two manufacturers and one common retailer’s leader–follower relationship, the two manufacturers’ pricing strategy and the fuzzy uncertainties associated with the manufacturing costs and customer demands of the complementary products, seven pricing games are considered. The corresponding closed-form optimal pricing decisions are obtained in the seven pricing games. Through using numerical studies and sensitivity analysis of parameters’ fuzzy degree, we compare the analytical results of different games and investigate the firms’ optimal decisions facing changing pricing environments. At last, we analyse the effect of the fuzzy degree of key parameters on optimal prices, maximal expected demands and maximal expected profits of different games. Using uncertain real-time information to update supply chain operational policies creates a need for developing dynamic supply chain management capabilities that increase responsiveness to demand and decrease volatility of the replenishment process (popularly known as the Bullwhip Effect). To this end, we explore the use of control theoretic principles to manage the inventory replenishment process in a supply chain under different forecast situations. We study the use of proportional, proportional-integral and proportional-derivative control schemes to determine the conditions under which specific control actions are beneficial. Analytical models and simulation runs are used to study the trade-off between responsiveness to demand and volatility. Our analysis indicates that using proportional control to manage inventory replenishment is suitable for high forecast error situations. Proportional control along with integral control works well in situations where the forecast bias is relatively higher than the forecast error. Proportional control along with derivative control works best in situations with moderate forecast errors.  相似文献

In this paper, we have considered a vendor-managed inventory (VMI) arrangement in a supply chain (SC), where the buyer imposes a penalty for shipments exceeding an upper limit. We have shown as how the industry practice of VMI under penalty can be used as a SC coordination mechanism. The vendor can influence the buyer to increase the batch size without making the buyer worse off. We also discuss how such a penalty scheme may be derived. Further, we have established the equivalence of VMI under deterministic demand with that of quantity discount models, thus highlighting the need to incorporate both cooperation and coordination perspectives while analysing SC collaboration mechanisms.  相似文献

To streamline an agile manufacturing system of a global firm facing a high demand of market service, supply chain management (SCM) plays an important role. In SCM, a phenomenon called ‘the bullwhip effect’ has attracted considerable attention. This study examines the bullwhip effect caused by order variance from retailers. It shows that based on portfolio theory, supplier's demand variance can be reduced by adjusting the order quantities of retailers through co-ordination. We investigate the existence and magnitude of stockout propagation and stockout amplification in the context of supply chain inventory systems. Stockout amplification is a stage-to-stage increase in overall stockout rates. Stockout propagation is the tendency for stockout at one node to instigate a stockout at a neighbouring node and is conceptually related to the idea of cascading failures in physical systems, such as electrical power grids. We study these concepts in both upstream (‘supply side’) and downstream (‘demand side’) directions in the context of normal operating conditions for an adaptive R, S (periodic, order-up-to) inventory policy. We build a simulation model of a 5-stage serial supply chain that experiences normally distributed customer demands and gamma distributed lead times. We find that stockout propagation exists, but contrary to conventional wisdom, it occurs in the upstream direction. There is little indication that stockout propagation is occurring to any significant degree in the downstream direction. We also find stockout amplification occurring in the upstream direction in scenarios where more aggressively adaptive inventory parameter updating is performed. We discuss implications of this work in the areas of supply chain inventory modelling, ordering decisions, safety stock determination, and the use of adaptive inventory policies.  相似文献

This paper considers the integration between quality control and production inventory control in supply chain management. Specifically, we study the effect of inspection errors on the costs incurred in a supply chain system with a single vendor and multiple buyers. In this system, the vendor enters into a vendor-managed inventory (VMI) and a consignment stock (CS) partnership with several buyers. We assume that the items made by the vendor are not in perfect quality, but they contain a given proportion of defective units. We also assume that quality inspection of these items by the buyers is subject to sampling errors. Three cases indicating to different levels of supply integration are considered: VMI–CS system, traditional system and integrated system. For each case, a mathematical model is formulated, an optimum solution is developed, and a numerical example is solved.  相似文献
