Autowrite is an experimental software tool written in Common Lisp Oriented System (CLOS) which handles term rewrite systems and bottom-up tree automata. A graphical interface written using McCLIM, (the free implementation of the CLIM specification) frees the user of any Lisp knowledge. Software and documentation can be found at http://dept-info.labri.u-bordeaux.fr/~idurand/autowrite. Autowrite was initially designed to check call-by-need properties of term rewrite systems. For this purpose, it implements the tree automata constructions used in [F. Jacquemard. Decidable approximations of term rewriting systems. In Proc. 7th RTA, volume 1103 of LNCS, pages 362–376, 1996; I. Durand and A. Middeldorp. Decidable call by need computations in term rewriting (extended abstract). We define a weighted monadic second order logic for trees where the weights are taken from a commutative semiring. We prove that a restricted version of this logic characterizes the class of formal tree series which are accepted by weighted bottom-up finite state tree automata. The restriction on the logic can be dropped if additionally the semiring is locally finite. This generalizes corresponding classical results of Thatcher, Wright, and Doner for tree languages and it extends recent results of Droste and Gastin [Weighted automata and weighted logics, in: Automata, Languages and Programming—32nd International Colloquium, ICALP 2005, Lisbon, Portugal, 2005, Proceedings, Lecture Notes in Computer Science, Vol. 3580, Springer, Berlin, 2005, pp. 513–525, full version in Theoretical Computer Science, to appear.] from formal power series on words to formal tree series. 相似文献

The complexity of various membership problems for tree automata on compressed trees is analyzed. Two compressed representations are considered: dags, which allow to share identical subtrees in a tree, and straight-line context-free tree grammars, which moreover allow to share identical intermediate parts in a tree. Several completeness results for the classes NL, P, and PSPACE are obtained. Finally, the complexity of the evaluation problem for (structural) XPath queries on trees that are compressed via straight-line context-free tree grammars is investigated. 相似文献

The theorem of Huet and Lévy stating that for orthogonal rewrite systems (i) every reducible term contains a needed redex and (ii) repeated contraction of needed redexes results in a normal form if the term under consideration has a normal form, forms the basis of all results on optimal normalizing strategies for orthogonal rewrite systems. However, needed redexes are not computable in general. In the paper we show how the use of approximations and elementary tree automata techniques allows one to obtain decidable conditions in a simple and elegant way. Surprisingly, by avoiding complicated concepts like index and sequentiality we are able to cover much larger classes of rewrite systems. We also study modularity aspects of the classes in our hierarchy. It turns out that none of the classes is preserved under signature extension. By imposing various conditions we recover the preservation under signature extension. By imposing some more conditions we are able to strengthen the signature extension results to modularity for disjoint and constructor-sharing combinations. 相似文献

A recent paper by Bouajjani, Muscholl and Touili shows that the class of languages accepted by partially ordered word automata (or equivalently accepted by Σ2-formulae) is closed under semi-commutation and it suggested the following open question: can we extend this result to tree languages? This problem can be addressed by proving (1) that the class of tree regular languages accepted by Σ2 formulae is strictly included in the class of languages accepted by partially ordered automata, and (2) that Bouajjani and the others results cannot be extended to tree. 相似文献

We show that a language of infinite binary trees is definable by a Σ2-formula of the monadic second order logic of two successors (with no additional symbols) iff it can be accepted by a Büchi automaton. The same result has been obtained by G. Lenzi, but our proof is simpler. 相似文献

Most work on pattern mining focuses on simple data structures such as itemsets and sequences of itemsets. However, a lot of recent applications dealing with complex data like chemical compounds, protein structures, XML and Web log databases and social networks, require much more sophisticated data structures such as trees and graphs. In these contexts, interesting patterns involve not only frequent object values (labels) appearing in the graphs (or trees) but also frequent specific topologies found in these structures. Recently, several techniques for tree and graph mining have been proposed in the literature. In this paper, we focus on constraint-based tree pattern mining. We propose to use tree automata as a mechanism to specify user constraints over tree patterns. We present the algorithm CoBMiner which allows user constraints specified by a tree automata to be incorporated in the mining process. An extensive set of experiments executed over synthetic and real data (XML documents and Web usage logs) allows us to conclude that incorporating constraints during the mining process is far more effective than filtering the interesting patterns after the mining process. 相似文献

Weak acceptance conditions for automata on infinite words or trees are defined in terms of the set of states that appear in the run. This is in contrast with, more usual, strong conditions that are defined in terms of states appearing infinitely often on the run. Weak conditions appear in the context of model-checking and translations of logical formalisms to automata. We study the complexity of the emptiness problem for tree automata with weak conditions. We also study the translations between automata with weak and strong conditions. 相似文献

A method for inferring of tree automata from sample set of trees is presented. The procedure, which is based on the concept ofk-follower of a tree with respect to the sample tree set, produces a tree automaton capable of accepting all the sample trees as well as other trees similar in structure. The behavior of the inferred tree automaton for varying values of parameterk is also discussed. This work was supported in part by a Scientific Research Grant-In-Aid (Grant No. 57460129) from the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, Japan. 相似文献

In this work, we present timed automata as a natural tool for posing and solving scheduling problems. We show how efficient shortest path algorithms for timed automata can find optimal schedules for the classical job-shop problem. We then extend these results to synthesize adaptive scheduling strategies for problems with uncertainty in task durations. 相似文献

The aim of this paper is to show, how a multitasking application running under a real-time operating system compliant with
an OSEK/VDX standard can be modeled by timed automata. The application under consideration consists of several non-preemptive
tasks and interrupt service routines that can be synchronized by events. A model checking tool is used to verify time and
logical properties of the proposed model. Use of this methodology is demonstrated on an automated gearbox case study and the
result of the worst-case response time verification is compared with the classical method based on the time-demand analysis.
It is shown that the model-checking approach provides less pessimistic results due to a more detailed model and exhaustive
state-space exploration.

This paper presents new classes of tree automata combining automata with equality test and automata modulo equational theories. We believe that these classes have a good potential for application in e.g. software verification. These tree automata are obtained by extending the standard Horn clause representations with equational conditions and rewrite systems. We show in particular that a generalized membership problem (extending the emptiness problem) is decidable by proving that the saturation of tree automata presentations with suitable paramodulation strategies terminates. Alternatively our results can be viewed as new decidable classes of first-order formula. 相似文献

Timed automata have an infinite semantics. For verification purposes, one usually uses zone-based abstractions w.r.t. the
maximal constants to which clocks of the timed automaton are compared. We show that by distinguishing maximal lower and upper
bounds, significantly coarser abstractions can be obtained. We show soundness and completeness of the new abstractions w.r.t.
reachability and demonstrate how information about lower and upper bounds can be used to optimise the algorithm for bringing
a difference bound matrix into normal form. Finally, we experimentally demonstrate that the new techniques dramatically increase
the scalability of the real-time model checker UPPAAL. 相似文献

We improve on an existing [P.A. Abdulla, J. Högberg, L. Kaati, Bisimulation minimization of tree automata, International Journal of Foundations of Computer Science 18(4) (2007) 699–713] bisimulation minimization algorithm for finite-state tree automata by introducing backward and forward bisimulation and developing minimization algorithms for them. Minimization via forward bisimulation is also effective on deterministic tree automata, faster than the previous algorithm, and yields the minimal equivalent deterministic tree automaton. Minimization via backward bisimulation generalizes the previous algorithm and can yield smaller automata but is just as fast. We demonstrate implementations of these algorithms on a typical task in natural language processing. 相似文献

There are many decision problems in automata theory (including membership, emptiness, inclusion and universality problems) that are NP-hard for some classes of tree automata (TA). The study of their parameterized complexity allows us to find new bounds of their nonpolynomial time algorithmic behaviours. We present results of such a study for classical TA, rigid tree automata, TA with global equality and disequality and t-DAG automata. As parameters we consider the number of states, the cardinality of the signature, the size of the term or the t-dag and the size of the automaton. 相似文献

We investigate the effect on efficiency of various design issues for BDD-like data structures of TA state space representation and manipulation. We find that the efficiency is highly sensitive to decision atom design and canonical form definition. We explore the two issues in detail and propose to use CRD (Clock-Restriction Diagram) for TA state space representation and present algorithms for manipulating CRD in the verification of TAs. We compare three canonical forms for zones, develop a procedure for quick zone-containment detection, and present algorithms for verification with backward reachability analysis. Three possible evaluation orderings are also considered and discussed. We implement our idea in our tool Red 4.2 and carry out experiments to compare with other tools and various strategies of Red in both forward and backward analysis. Finally, we discuss the possibility of future improvement. 相似文献

This paper studies the nonterminal complexity of tree controlled grammars. It is proved that the number of nonterminals in tree controlled grammars without erasing rules leads to an infinite hierarchy of families of tree controlled languages, while every recursively enumerable language can be generated by a tree controlled grammar with erasing rules and at most nine nonterminals. 相似文献
