Pattern‐driven design method is an important data‐driven design method for printed fabric motif design in textiles and clothing industry. We introduce a novel framework for automatic design of color patterns in real‐world fabric motif images. The novelty of our work is to formulate the recognition of an underlying color pattern element as a spatial, multi‐target tracking, classification, segmentation and similarity association process using a new and efficient color feature encoding method. The proposed design method is based on pattern‐driven color pattern recognition and indexing from the element image database. A series of color pattern recognition algorithms are used for color and pattern feature extraction. The local statistical corner features and Markov random field model are used for motif unit tiling detection and conversion. The color feature encoding problem is modeled in a gray‐scale color difference optimization problem, which can be solved quickly by existing algorithms. Color pattern feature matching, segmentation and indexing techniques are then used to locate and replace the elements in the motif unit image with similar elements in the database. Experiments show that the approach proposed in this study is effective for color pattern recognition and printed fabric motif design.  相似文献

Although a number of methods have been developed for image adjustment in various applications, very little work has been done in the context of visual design. In this regard, this article introduces a novel and practical context of image color adjustment and develops a method to adjust an image for harmony with a target color. The experiment with designers revealed that designers made significant changes in hue dimension, and preferred to promote color similarity between the image and the target color. Based on insights from designers, we proposed a method to achieve a harmonious combination of an image and a color element by increasing the hue similarity between them. The result of a user test revealed that our method is particularly useful for images with nonliving objects but less effective for images involving human skin, foods, and so on. It is expected that the practical context investigated in this study can promote a variety of related studies that satisfy the tangible needs of industries and academia.  相似文献

A quantitative approach for color planning in product design is addressed in this article. the color image that a product has is quantified by using the membership function of a fuzzy set. the color plan for designing an ice shaver is used as an example to show the procedure. the Hue and Tone System and the Color Image Scale are used to transform colors into images or images into colors. the composite operation for fuzzy sets is used to simulate a color projection technique to get the semantic equivalence of words and colors. A computer program is built to get the membership functions between the colors and image words. the membership functions are arranged by size and suggested to the designer to help make a decision on what color should be used. In this manner, the psychology of customers can easily be captured by the designer, consequently increasing the efficiency of the decision process. Though a simple product is taken as an example here, this systematic method can be used to design other more complicated products. In addition, the results can be used to investigate the color psychology.  相似文献

This article proposes a new recoloring method for textile fabric images based on improved fuzzy local information c‐means (FLICM) clustering. In the clustering algorithm, the fuzzy factor was modified so that it can produce reliable segmentation in areas with rich details. With the obtained cluster labels and pixel‐wise memberships, the color of each pixel is modeled as the linear combination of the two most dominant colors. The recoloring process was then conducted by replacing the specified dominant color with user‐provided target colors. Experimental results showed that the proposed method can produce natural and faithful color appearance on both printed and yarn‐dyed fabric images, and outperforms the state‐of‐the‐art. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Artists usually carefully select different colors in artistic work so as to convey special visual and emotional feelings. Color theme extraction techniques can help users to acquire the color styles in an image. However, current color theme extraction methods ignore the emotional factors, and they can only provide a single theme result for an image as well, neither of which meet people's favor on different colors under different mood states. This article introduces the conception of emotional color theme, introduces the color emotion theory into color theme extraction, and proposes a novel emotion color theme extraction framework. To achieve these goals, we perform the theme extraction with emotion value of each pixel instead of color value. The emotional discrepancy is proposed between the colors in the theme to evaluate a color theme quality and prove it with color theme dataset. Then a data driven approach is adopted to optimize the color theme. Different from previous optimizing strategies, we built the emotional relation between the target theme and the candidate theme. Our method can enhance the color editing results of previous methods, e.g., for color transfer our results can demonstrate hierarchical emotions from a single reference image. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Expanded gamut printing is an approach in color reproduction that expands the color gamut of conventional CMYK printing processes via the use of additional colorants, such as Orange, Green, and Violet inks. This study evaluates the ability of commercial color management software to create an accurate solution for an expanded gamut printing system. In this study, two printing processes were used, an Epson SureColor P9000 inkjet printer/proofer and an HP Indigo 7900 digital production press, both with 7-color expanded gamut ink sets. Software solutions from Alwan, CGS ORIS, ColorLogic, GMG Color, Heidelberg, and Kodak were evaluated. The systems were tested to see how well they could reproduce the colors in the entire PANTONE+ Solid Coated spot color library. It is shown that the solutions are able to reproduce 89% to 94% of the spot colors on the Epson P9000 inkjet printer and 77% to 87% of the library on the Indigo 7900, both to less than two CIEDE2000 (a typical tolerance in label and packaging work). The number of color patches in expanded gamut characterization test charts was noted, as this is still an area of proprietary, nonstandardized working practice. There are many different colorant combinations that can make the same color in expanded gamut printing. The ink build created by the different software solutions was studied, as it relates to press stability through appropriate choice of colorants. Pantone and Adobe provide everyday commercial tools for expanded color workflows. The study identified some issues with products from these companies that could confuse a less-skilled user in a busy production environment. The conclusion of the study is that expanded gamut solutions for spot color printing produce totally acceptable results for digital printing processes; expanded gamut printing is ready, here and now. The findings show that expanded gamut printing can replace cumbersome conventional spot color workflows creating considerable savings and advantages, especially for label and packaging printers.  相似文献

采用溶胶-凝胶法制备了二氧化硅(Si O2)微球,并利用聚多巴胺(PDA)作为黑色吸光物质制备了Si O2@PDA微球;利用重力沉积法将Si O2@PDA微球沉积到白色涤纶织物表面,通过添加自制结构色粘合剂聚(甲基丙烯酸缩水甘油酯-co-丙烯酸六氟丁酯)-g-聚乙二醇甲基丙烯酸酯〔P(GMA-co-FHBMA)-g-PEGMA〕以制备高牢度结构色织物。采用马尔文高灵敏纳米粒度分析仪、SEM、测色仪、测量显微镜对Si O2微球、Si O2@PDA微球和结构色织物进行了表征,探究了多巴胺用量与Si O2@PDA微球的粒径、形貌及织物结构色的关系;考察了粘合剂用量对结构色牢度和色彩的影响。结果表明,制备的SiO2微球粒径均匀、单分散性较好;随着多巴胺用量的增多,制备的SiO2@PDA微球粒径增大,织物结构色红移;但多巴胺用量过多会使微球形貌粗糙,降低微球的粒径均匀性、单分散性及结构色的亮度;P(GMA-co-FHBMA)-g-PEGMA的加入可以抑制结构色开裂,提升牢度。  相似文献

Novice designers of visualizations need support to find easy‐to‐use color schemes for visualizations. This article introduces a method of conspicuity inference for a color selection support system that is applicable to a wide variety of visualizations. In previous research, data on color conspicuity by computer GUI interface were collected by having subjects adjust the relative sizes of two figures on a ground in order to find conspicuity balance. This article outlines a new conspicuity inference system, which uses a neural network to produce a color conspicuity value from the system RGB values of two figures and a potential ground. The output value is the ideal relative area of the two figures. This value is applied to visualization designs by weighting each conspicuity value with a ground coefficient, the relative size of every color in a design. Color selection and evaluation experiments show a significant relationship of conspicuity balance, as inferred by this system, for subjective ease‐of‐use evaluation scores for 200 novice designs. Topics for future research include developing the system's characteristically simple parameters within the limited scope and integrating conspicuity balance with other factors such as visibility, discriminability, and color harmony. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A special printing ink formulation based on cationic dyes is developed for digital printing of acrylic fabrics using a conventional inkjet printer. In order to investigate the contribution of color gamut boundary of printer colorants to printing efficiency, customized color targets containing 3164 color patches in 25 different hues were generated. The printed color patches were then fixed through steaming for 30 minutes followed by washing with hot soap and water and finally drying. To show the influence of dye fixation on colorimetric changes as well as color gamut boundary of samples, the L*a*b* values of color patches before and after fixation process were compared. Results demonstrate that color saturation of samples is enhanced dramatically after the dye fixation process. In fact, 3D color gamut of color patches has been drastically expanded as a direct consequence of adsorption to absorption transition. Additionally, dye fixation changes the structure of printed image from halftone superimposed dots to contone superimposed dyes. Strictly speaking, during fixation process, colors inside the halftone dots diffuse through the interfacial area to make the individual printed dots integrated. This is in analogy to the chromogenic photography films and dye‐sublimation thermal transfer processes by which contone images are produced. Moreover, dye fixation improves the washing fastness of digitally printed acrylic fabrics to the level comparable with the traditional screen printing method. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Image color clustering is a basic technique in image processing and computer vision, which is often applied in image segmentation, color transfer, contrast enhancement, object detection, skin color capture, and so forth. Various clustering algorithms have been employed for image color clustering in recent years. However, most of the algorithms require a large amount of memory or a predetermined number of clusters. In addition, some of the existing algorithms are sensitive to the parameter configurations. In order to tackle the above problems, we propose an image color clustering method named Student's t-based density peaks clustering with superpixel segmentation (tDPCSS), which can automatically obtain clustering results, without requiring a large amount of memory, and is not dependent on the parameters of the algorithm or the number of clusters. In tDPCSS, superpixels are obtained based on automatic and constrained simple non-iterative clustering, to automatically decrease the image data volume. A Student's t kernel function and a cluster center selection method are adopted to eliminate the dependence of the density peak clustering on parameters and the number of clusters, respectively. The experiments undertaken in this study confirmed that the proposed approach outperforms k-means, fuzzy c-means, mean-shift clustering, and density peak clustering with superpixel segmentation in the accuracy of the cluster centers and the validity of the clustering results.  相似文献

Automat layout detection of color yarns is necessary for weaving and producing processes of yarn‐dyed fabrics. This study presents a novel approach to inspect the layout of color yarns of double‐system‐mélange color fabrics automatically, which is Part III of the series of studies to develop a computer vision‐based system for automatic inspection of color yarn layout for yarn‐dyed fabrics. The inspection of single‐system‐mélange color fabrics has been realized in Part I of the series of studies. Integrating the projection‐based region segmentation method proposed in Part I and the FCM‐based stepwise classification method proposed in Part II, the proposed approach is composed of three steps: (1) fabric region segmentation, (2) fabric region selection, and (3) layout of color yarns recognition. In the first step, the fabric regions are segmented by the projection‐based region segmentation method. In the second step, the reasonable fabric regions are selected by analyzing their color histograms and comparing their weft color's frequency. In the third step, the layout of color yarn is recognized by the FCM‐based stepwise classification method, and the precise layouts of color warps and wefts are produced. The experimental analysis proved that the proposed method can recognize the layout of color yarns of double‐system‐mélange color fabrics correctly by testing four different color fabrics and three pieces of same yarn‐dyed fabrics. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Emotional experience and demand for product colors are important factors in users' decisions to buy and use a product. Therefore, accurately characterizing users' emotional responses of the product's color has become a significant consideration for product color design. However, a product color design problem exists in which it is challenging to accurately and efficiently position users' color image space because consumers have completely different image perceptions when encountering a large number of color schemes generated by different color spatial distributions. For this reason, this article proposes a product color emotional design method that considers the color layout. A table is built of an elemental composition for product color design, which contains color layout forms. This article also establishes a mapping model based on the semantic difference and back propagation neural network between the users' color image perceptions and the elements of the product's color design. The system recommends a color layout form that matches the users' emotional image goal through the k‐nearest neighbor algorithm, and then the form is initialized using a genetic algorithm. The system can realize the solution to the optimal product color scheme by optimizing and evaluating the population. Designers can make intuitive choices and decisions through the product color recommendation system. Through an example of color design for industrial vacuum cleaners, this article shows that the method has satisfactory feasibility and applicability for solving the problem of the optimization of product color design with color layout forms.  相似文献

Color image is one of the most important factors in art and design. In general, artists and designers apply their own personal image meanings into their work. However, the image meaning for a specific work is frequently in conflict with those of the general observer. Thus it is necessary and important to derive one set of merit color image scales which can be utilized to predict the color image meanings of works in parallel with the average person's perception and which can also serve as a guide for artists and designers. In this study, the psychophysical method (magnitude estimation method), usually used in visual measurement of color appearance, was employed to attempt to establish new color image scales to evaluate the color image meanings of works matching those of the average person. The results show that new color image scales WIP are developed, and the relativity between the latest color image scales WIP and the color attributes (say Lightness L*, Hue h, and Chroma C*) of the CIELAB color space is also discussed. The total mean value of coefficient of variation for the results of visual assessment in the experiment of evaluating the color image meanings of the 207 color specimens used, in general, is about 36, similar to that for those experiments conducted using the psychological method. A method is proposed for selecting two‐color combinations with various feelings. Feelings used are pleasantness, contrast, floridness, warmth, and their combinations. The proposed method is given by its flow chart for selecting the candidates of two‐color combinations adapting to target feeling(s). The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by the correlation coefficients between observed and predicted values for four kinds of feelings. Munsell H V/Cs of each component color are necessary for prediction; the prediction formulas are given for estimating the degree of each feeling for any two‐color combinations. The proposed method can be expanded to three‐color combinations. This proposal is expected to assist color designers, who can choose their usable color combinations from the candidates selected by the proposed method. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 结合数字图像技术和色度学相关原理,针对腐蚀过程涂层表面出现的色彩变化,建立了基于颜色特征的涂层材料腐蚀性能检测方法。利用建立的腐蚀形貌采集系统,对现场暴露不同时期的涂层试片进行采集。采用HSV颜色空间对腐蚀试样表面的变色程度进行描述,提出颜色特征参数CP,实现对涂层腐蚀试样外观变色的计算机判别,为材料的腐蚀特征检测提供了新的方法。  相似文献
