This paper proposes a new RAKE receiver incorporated with a bidirectional iterative intersymbol interference (ISI) canceller in order to reinforce multipath robustness of high-rate direct-sequence spread-spectrum complementary code keying (DSSS/CCK) systems. The proposed RAKE receiver first combines multipath signal components through a channel matched filter (CMF) and removes postcursor-ISI by employing a codeword decision feedback equalizer (DFE). Then, a CCK codeword detector tentatively determines the current CCK codeword symbol and reuses it to subtract precursor-ISI from the previous symbol. Therefore, the ultimate symbol decision is made using the delayed signal with both postcursor-ISI and precursor-ISI cancelled. The detection performance can be more improved through an iterative refinement processing between the postcursor and the precursor components. Simulation results exhibit a significantly improved error rate performance of the proposed receiver compared with that of the legacy RAKE receiver employing only a postcursor DFE. The additional cost for realization of the proposed receiver is one symbol decision delay and reuse complexity of the DFE and the codeword detector.  相似文献

A symbol decision feedback equalization (DFE) technique is developed for demodulating complementary code keying (CCK) signals. The efficacy of the proposed receiver is demonstrated on the physical layer (PHY) specified in the IEEE 802.11b wireless local area network (WLAN) standard. Packet error rate (PER) performance is compared with that of the conventional RAKE receiver. The proposed receiver structure and its low complexity variations demonstrate significant performance advantages over the RAKE receiver, especially in severe multipath channels. While a large delay spread can limit the performance of two low-complexity variations discussed here, performance of the optimal symbol DFE receiver is not limited by delay spread as long as the channel signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is sufficiently high.  相似文献

Spread spectrum (SS) multiple access techniques have been proposed for third generation broadband wireless access. We develop an analytical framework to quantify the effects of spreading bandwidth on SS systems operating in dense multipath environments in terms of the receiver performance, receiver complexity, and multipath channel parameters. In particular, we consider wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) Gaussian channels with frequency-selective fading. The focus of the paper is to characterize the combined signal of the RAKE receiver fingers tracking the strongest multipath components. Closed form expressions for the mean and the variance of the total RAKE receiver output signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) are derived in terms of the number of RAKE fingers, spreading bandwidth, and multipath spread of the channel. The proposed problem is made analytically tractable by transforming the physical RAKE paths into the virtual path domain. A representative result indicates that for SS systems with 5 MHz signal bandwidth operating in a channel with constant power delay profile having 5 μs spread, the average SNR gain from increasing the number of RAKE fingers from one to three is 3.8 dB and from three to five is 1.5 dB. Furthermore, the reduction in the variation of SNR is 1.1 dB and 0.4 dB for the same increments in the number of fingers  相似文献

In this paper, we present a simple interference cancellation technique for the downlink of wideband code‐division multiple‐access (WCDMA) systems in multipath environment. With the same knowledge required by a RAKE receiver, the present method acts as an equalizer and cancels the interfering multipath signals from the received signal to retrieve the orthogonality property of the received signal. The present receiver has a simple structure and it has significant performance gain against the RAKE receiver. In addition, the noise enhancement is negligible when there is a line of sight path or the channel power delay profile has an exponential decaying form. We develop an analytical framework to quantify the effects of the spreading bandwidth (BW) on spread spectrum systems operating in dense multipath environments in terms of the receiver performance, the receiver complexity, and the multipath channel parameters. The focus of the paper is to characterize the symbol error probability (SEP) performance of a RAKE receiver tracking the L strongest multipath components in wide-sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) Gaussian channels with frequency-selective fading. Analytical SEP expressions of the RAKE receiver are derived in terms of the number of combined paths, the spreading BW and the multipath spread of the channel. The proposed problem is made analytically tractable by transforming the physical RAKE paths, which are correlated and ordered, into the domain of a “virtual RAKE” receiver with independent virtual paths. This results in a simple derivation of the SEP for a given spreading BW and an arbitrary number of combined paths  相似文献

The joint performance of a turbo decoder and RAKE receiver using the MAP algorithm depends on the accuracy of the channel reliability factor. In a high data rate/low processing gain environment, inherent interference that results from non-idealities of the RAKE receiver complicate the estimation of the channel reliability factor. The combined performance of a turbo decoder and RAKE receiver is analyzed in a timedispersive and time-varying channel with distinct multipath components. Approaches are examined for estimating the channel reliability factor using the limited information that is known by the RAKE receiver. The sensitivity of performance to SNR mismatches is computed. The impact of the processing gain and the number of multipath components on BER performance is analyzed along with the effect of the channel time coherence. By accounting for the non-ideal RAKE interference effects, improvements in the channel reliability factor calculation result in BER performance improvements on the order of 0.5-2 dB.  相似文献

We present models for the code acquisition process in RAKE receivers. These models include multipath diversity, multiple transmitter (base station or satellite) diversity, and multiple access interference generated by other users in the network. This results in a different probability of false alarm for each cell of the code delay uncertainty region. The analysis is based on signal flow graph theory. By using these models, we elaborate different strategies for RAKE receiver synchronization and derive exact closed-form results for the average acquisition time. These strategies differ in how they organize initial (first RAKE finger) and postinitial search algorithms. If the channel is known, the initial synchronization may organize a parallel search for all fingers simultaneously by a proper set up of the local correlators' mutual delays. If not, then a serial search of different segments (partitioned among the different fingers) can be organized. In the postinitial search, sequential or random initializations are possible. A set of approximations is also included for practical applications where a quick assessment of the system performance is needed  相似文献

In direct‐sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) multiuser communication systems in multipath channels, both intersymbol interference (ISI) and multiple‐access interference (MAI) must be considered. The multipath channel characterizes the propagation effects including the timing offset and delays, etc. Traditionally, we use the delay‐locked loop (DLL) code tracking loop to recover the timing delay. But DLL cannot work well in multipath environment. In this paper, we propose a low‐complexity adaptive receiver to suppress ISI/MAI and solve the timing offset problems without using conventional DLL code tracking loop. The proposed receiver employs an adaptive filter whose weights are adapted using a block least‐mean square error algorithm with fractional sampling. Simulations confirm the good performance, including learning curves and theoretical analysis of minimum mean‐square error, of the proposed receiver. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This paper investigates three decision- feedback receivers for Direct-Sequence Ultra-Wideband Radio (DS-UWB) based on two-channel BPSK modulation with ternary spreading code. A compact and insightful vector-matrix signal model is built up for receiver design under UWB channel dispersion over many consecutive symbols. First, we consider the design of a RAKE with Decision Feedback (RAKE-DF) receiver. Using the Gaussian approximation technique, we derive its analytic performance under no error propagation. It is shown that the RAKE-DF receiver suffers from a significant error floor due to the uncancelled pre-cursor ISI (or pre-ISI abbreviated). Next, we design the MMSE-DF receiver to achieve a better performance by suppressing the pre-ISI, too. However, the MMSE receiver requires costly matrix inversion. Then a new receiver is investigated as the third one, which is called the RAKE with Bi-Directional Decision Feedback (RAKE-BDDF) receiver, for efficiently canceling both the post-(cursor) ISI and pre-ISI at symbol rate. It cannot only attain the matched filter bound approximately, but also maintain a similar complexity as that of the RAKE-DF receiver. Simulation and semi-analytic BER curves are included for performance comparison of the three receivers in the presence of the CM2 and CM4 UWB channels.  相似文献

In this paper a multicarrier CDMA (MC-CDMA) system with a soft decision differential phase shift keying (DPSK) frequency domain RAKE receiver is described. We compare a MC-CDMA system with a direct sequence CDMA system using RAKE receivers. In contrast with previous MC-CDMA systems, guard intervals are not used and the carriers are spaced at the reciprocal of the bit rate, optimising the usage of the bandwidth. In this way a comparison can be made between the multicarrier CDMA system described and a direct sequence (DS-CDMA) system with the same bandwidth. The results presented are received bit error rates from Monte Carlo simulations. The simulations are conducted in a multipath channel with Rayleigh fading and 300 Hz Doppler spectrum with additive white Gaussian noise. It is shown that the multicarrier CDMA matched filter receiver performs favourably compared to the direct sequence CDMA matched filter receiver for 1 -path fading. For a single user at a receive bit error rate of 1×10–3 in the 4-path fading channel the multicarrier RAKE receiver requires no knowledge of the channel delay spread and performs 3 dB worse than the DS-CDMA RAKE receiver simulated. The performance of the MC-CDMA RAKE receiver for a single user increases with increasing channel dispersion. The performance of the DS-CDMA RAKE receiver for multiple user is superior to that of the MC-CDMA RAKE receiver.

This paper proposes an over-sampling multi-channel equalizer per sub-band for multi-band ultra-wideband (UWB) system and compares its performance with conventional RAKE receiver when operating in practical UWB channel models. Three transmission modes have been considered, and inter-symbol interference (ISI) is found to be inherent to certain transmission modes due to the large UWB channel delay spreads. Through detailed analytical and simulation studies, the proposed over-sampled minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer is shown to be able to handle ISI under any channel conditions or transmission modes, with an acceptable BER. In addition, the rich multipath diversity of the UWB channels is harnessed by the over-sampling scheme, for output SNR improvement. Over-sampling is done in the expense of an increase in system complexity  相似文献

In code-division multiple-access systems transmitting data over time-varying multipath channels, both intersymbol interference (ISI) and multiple-access interference (MAI) arise. In this paper, we address interference suppression, multipath diversity and processing gain protection for multiuser detection with less noise enhancement by using a parallel cancelling scheme. The proposed detector consists of a RAKE filter, forward filter, and feedback filter with different functions for each filter. The RAKE filter increases the signal-to-noise ratio by taking the advantage of multipath and code diversities. The forward filter is proposed, in combination with the feedback filter, to remove the effects of MAI and ISI by parallel cancellation. In order to avoid performance deterioration due to unreliable initial estimation in the parallel cancellation, a cost function with proper weighting is introduced to improve the performance of the proposed detector. In the proposed design method, a recursive least square algorithm is employed to update the tap-coefficients of all filters for MAI and ISI cancellation. Finally, the performance of the proposed detector is analyzed and compared with other detectors  相似文献

The measured multipath profiles from five different indoor areas are used for the performance analysis of a binary phase shift keying (BPSK) modem with a decision feedback equalizer (DFE). The performance from the measured multipath profiles is compared with the performance predictions based on a computer simulated channel model. Both average probability of error and probability of outage are calculated for a DFE with three fractionally spaced forward and three feedback taps. An equivalent delay power spectrum function, determined from the ensemble of the measured channel impulse responses, is defined. Using this function, analytical lower bounds on the average probability of error and the probability of outage of the BPSK/DFE modem with an infinite number of feedback taps and three forward taps are determined and compared with the results based on measured data and the computer generated channel impulse responses  相似文献

As wireless data rate requirements increase, multipath delay spread becomes an increasingly significant limitation on the performance of wireless systems. Techniques such as RAKE reception combat time dispersion by combining multipath components. Alternative implementations of RAKE receivers isolate the strongest multipath components and then shift each component to a common timing reference. The optimal timing reference in frequency-selective fading channels remains an open problem. This paper examines the impact pulse shaping and multipath delay spread on both signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and bit-error rate performance. The receiver being considered achieves symbol synchronization to the strongest multipath component. The performance when synchronization is achieved based on the first multipath component arrival is also found and used to illustrate performance differences. Multipath delay distributions used on the performance calculations are derived from indoor measurements. Pulse shapes considered in the analysis include root-raised cosine, raised cosine, and Gaussian filters. SNR losses are shown to range between 1-6 dB for bit rates of 10 Mb/s. Results show that synchronization of the receiver to the strongest multipath component gives a 1-3 dB advantage over synchronization to the first arriving multipath component.  相似文献

An ultra-wide bandwidth (UWB) signal propagation experiment is performed in a typical modern laboratory/office building. The bandwidth of the signal used in this experiment is in excess of 1 GHz, which results in a differential path delay resolution of less than a nanosecond, without special processing. Based on the experimental results, a characterization of the propagation channel from a communications theoretic view point is described, and its implications for the design of a UWB radio receiver are presented. Robustness of the UWB signal to multipath fading is quantified through histograms and cumulative distributions. The all RAKE (ARAKE) receiver and maximum-energy-capture selective RAKE (SRAKE) receiver are introduced. The ARAKE receiver serves as the best case (bench mark) for RAKE receiver design and lower bounds the performance degradation caused by multipath. Multipath components of measured waveforms are detected using a maximum-likelihood detector. Energy capture as a function of the number of single-path signal correlators used in UWB SRAKE receiver provides a complexity versus performance tradeoff. Bit-error-probability performance of a UWB SRAKE receiver, based on measured channels, is given as a function of the signal-to-noise ratio and the number of correlators implemented in the receiver.  相似文献

2-D RAKE receiver is an efficient way to realize the space-time processing for CDMA systems with aperiodic spreading codes. The Direction Of Arrival (DOA) and the relative time delay of every user's multipath must be known to realize the 2-D RAKE receiver. In the third generation CDMA mobile communication system, auxiliary pilot channel is used in the uplink channels. The different user's Vector Channel Impulse Response (VCIR) can be estimated from the pilot channel easily. The VCIR contains spatial and temporal information. In this paper, by utilizing the known pulse shape function, a parameter matrix method used to estimate the Spatial Signature Vector (SSV) and the relative time delay is proposed in frequency domain. The DOA can be estimated from the SSV. By reconstructing the SSV and utilizing approximate Capon space filter, the performance of the 2-D RAKE receiver with uniform circular array can be improved with a little additional computation work.  相似文献

Multicarrier (MC) direct sequence (DS) code division multiple access (CDMA) with differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) modulation and differential detection is proposed. Transmitted data bits are differentially encoded after serial-to-parallel conversion to a number of parallel streams. On each branch, encoded bits are direct sequence spread spectrum (SS) modulated and transmitted using different carriers. The system is analyzed with a differential detector in static Rayleigh fading multipath channel, in fast Rayleigh fading multipath channel and for variable overlapping between carrier spectra in static fading channel. Closed-form expressions are derived for the error probability and evaluated for many cases. The performance is compared to that of a system using phase-shift keying (PSK) with conventional matched filter (CMF) coherent receiver. For static fading channel, the error probability performance of the differential detector is close to that of CMF receiver. For fast fading, the performance degrades slightly with increasing fading rate. Finally; successive carriers of the system are allowed to overlap with various overlapping percentages. The condition of a single path can be achieved by increasing both the number of carriers and the separation between successive carriers. Also, for each number of carriers, there exists an optimum overlapping percentage at which the system performance is optimized. The performance of the proposed DPSK with differential detection system is close to that of PSK with CMF receiver, but the former is simpler to implement  相似文献
