Hundred one boys, aged between 1.5 and 13 years, previously classified for surgery for uni- or bilateral cryptorchidism were examined. In 78 patients (77.2%) cryptorchidism was diagnosed, including 51 cases (50.5%) of unilateral undescended testicle. In the remaining 23 boys (22.9%) migrating testes were found: unilateral in 6 cases (5.9%) and bilateral in 17 cases (16.8%). An improvement was achieved after HCG therapy in 21 cases of migrating testes (91.3%), partial improvement in 1 case (4.35%), and no effect in 1 case (4.35%). The treatment with HCG produced recovery in 20 cases (25.6%) of cryptorchidism, partial improvement in cases (23.2%), and no effect in 40 cases (51.2%). A complete recovery was achieved in 41 out of 101 patients, i.e. in 40.6%, partial improvement in 19 cases (18.6%), and no effect in 41 cases (40.6%). The treatment with HCG enabled an avoidance of unnecessary surgery in 40.6% of all examined boys.  相似文献

Various approaches to the management of the impalpable testis in cases of cryptorchidism have been advocated. The authors' experience over the past 13 years was reviewed to try to determine an optimal approach. Of 1,305 patients with undescended testicles seen between February 1982 and December 1995, 157 boys (12.03%) had impalpable testes with 17 having bilateral impalpable testes for a total of 174 impalpable testes. A hernia sac was present in 155 impalpable testes with a testicle present in all cases. No hernia sac was found in 19 impalpable testes, five of which had no testicle present. This was confirmed by either open exploration or laparoscopy. One hundred forty-eight boys underwent groin exploration as initial treatment, 13 of these had bilateral impalpable testes. In addition to the five absent testicles with no hernia sac, one patient with a hernia sac and no testicle evident benefited from subsequent laparoscopy to identify an intraabdominal testicle. All other patients underwent routine orchidopexy or orchidectomy (one case with grossly malformed testicle). Nine boys underwent laparoscopy as initial treatment, four of these had bilateral impalpable testes. Two abnormal testicles were found and removed. Groin exploration and subsequent orchidopexy was definitive treatment in all other cases. The association of a hernia sac with an impalpable undescended testicle is very significant (P < .00001 Fisher's Exact test). The absence of a sac therefore may reflect an alternate diagnosis. When no sac is found with a testicle in the groin, this may represent an ectopic testicle. When no sac is found with no testicle, this may represent a vanishing testicle. From this experience the authors conclude that groin exploration should be the initial approach to impalpable testes. The presence of a hernia sac with an absent testicle demands further exploration; the absence of a hernia sac with an absent testicle suggests a vanishing testicle and may need no further exploration.  相似文献

Objective: We summarized the relationship between the descent of a testicle into the scrotum and testicular cancer. Methods: Twenty-eight patients with testicular cancer after surgical treatment of cryptorchidism were retrospective analysis. Results:All patients were performed surgical treatment of cryptorchidism from 2 to 28 years old (median, 12 years;average, 16 years). Testicular cancer age ranged from 19 to 53 years (median, 33 years; average, 36 years). Malignant transformation occurred from 3 to 25 years of operation time (average, 18 years). Twenty-seven cases of malignant cryptorchidism ipsilateral, contralateral malignancy in 1 case, 27 cases were underwent radical resection of testicular cancer. Pathology diagnosis was mainly seminoma. Retroperitoneal lymph node dissection was done in 3 cases, 18 cases were chemotherapy and radiotherapy in 3 cases. Conclusion: The undescended testicle is the most common genital malformation in boys. When diagnosed, it should be treated as early as possible, but successful treatment appears not to lessen the risk of testicular cancer, patients must be closely monitored follow-up.  相似文献

We report an unusual case of a 22-year-old man who presented with the left testis spontaneously ascended to a non-scrotal position. The testis had been documented to be intrascrotal without any sign of up-migration when the man was 12 years old. On surgery, the cryptorchid testis was found to be located within the superficial inguinal pouch. The testis was atrophic with the spermatic cord too short. On dissection, a remnant string of the closed processus vaginalis was observed within the cord, and the distal end of the gubernaculum was abnormally attached to the fascia near inguinoscrotal junction. Histopathologic findings of the testis were that of the Sertoli-cell-only syndrome which may represent the end-stage of germinal cell hypoplasia, a pathologic sequela common in postpubertal undescended testis. We recommend 3 diagnostic criteria for the acquired undescended testis and emphasize that testicular descent should be confirmed in infancy and re-confirmed periodically through puberty by the health care physician. Our observations seem to support the theory that acquired undescended testis may be caused by a postnatal failure of the spermatic cord to elongate in proportion to somatic growth.  相似文献

PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to find out the relationship in the patient with cryptorchidism between the number of spermatogonia at surgical age and spermiogram data at adulthood. METHODS: Between 1971 and 1996 the authors surgically treated 1,550 children for 2,249 undescended testis. In 21 unilateral and 41 bilateral cryptorchidism patients, both testis were biopsied at surgical procedure during childhood. We currently have spermiogram data for a patient at adulthood. RESULTS: By using the best Tubular Fertility Index (TFI) figures of both testis, the Sperman correlation index between the two parameters is r = 0.22, statistically nonsignificant. The TFI test sensitivity is 0.68 and the specificity is 0.60. The likehood ratio for a positive test result is 0.84 and the likehood ratio for a negative test result is 0.37. CONCLUSION: Although the authors have only one spermiogram, and there are few cases, they suspect the TFI is not a good index to predict the potential fertility in cryptorchidism patients.  相似文献

Sperm morphology of three healthy boars and three boars with spontaneous abdominal cryptorchidism in the right testis has been evaluated by light microscopy. For each boar, two ejaculates have been analysed, corresponding to semen collections at the ages of 6.5 months (first collection) and 8 months (seventh collection). A comparative study of the sperm malformations present in the seventh semen collection between the healthy boars and the unilateral abdominal cryptorchid boars has also been performed by light microscopy. Sperm malformations of the seventh semen collection from the unilateral abdominal cryptorchid boars have been examined by scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The frequency of mature spermatozoa, immature spermatozoa, aberrant spermatozoa and detached heads maintained normals values in the first and the seventh semen collection from the unilateral abdominal cryptorchid boars. The comparative study of sperm abnormalities in the seventh semen collection between the cryptorchid boars and the healthy boars indicated that the unilateral abdominal cryptorchid boars had a significantly higher frequency of primary abnormalities, and a significantly lower frequency of secondary abnormalities. Some primary abnormalities, such as crater defect, knobbed acrosome defect, nuclear crests and abaxial tails were only observed in the unilateral abdominal cryptorchid boars. It was concluded that unilateral abdominal cryptorchidism provokes disturbances in the late stages of spermiogenesis, at testicular level. Alterations in the sperm maturation process at epididymal level were not found.  相似文献

Unilateral torsion of the spermatic cord has been demonstrated to damage the contralateral testis; however, the pathogenesis has not yet been examined in detail. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of unilateral torsion on the contralateral testis in rats by performing ipsilateral division of the genitofemoral nerve (GFN) and/or late orchiectomy. Male 25-day-old, prepubertal Wistar albino rats were divided into five groups: (1) sham operation; (2) unilateral testicular torsion; (3) simultaneous unilateral testicular torsion and ipsilateral GFN division; (4) unilateral testicular torsion and orchiectomy on the 4th day after torsion; and (5) simultaneous unilateral testicular torsion and GFN ipsilateral division, and orchiectomy on the 4th day after torsion. Torsions performed were 720 degrees, all on the right testes. On day 55 after torsion, which represents the early postpubertal period of the rat, the contralateral testes were removed. Tubular biopsy score (TBS) was calculated, and seminiferous tubular diameters (STD) were measured. Student's t-test was used for statistical analysis. There was no contralateral testicular damage in the control group, but in all of the study groups destructive changes were found in the left gonad after torsion of the right testicle. The mean TBS of the study groups was higher than that of the control group. STD values were lower in the study groups, but the differences were not statistically significant between groups. In prepubertal rats, unilateral torsion causes histologically measurable changes in the contralateral testis. Ipsilateral division of the GFN and late orchiectomy did not cause any significant alterations in terms of contralateral damage. Further investigations are needed to determine the role of the GFN in testicular torsion.  相似文献

This article reviews current knowledge on the effect of testicular germ cell cancer (TGCC) on gonadal function and of the cancer treatment on spermatogenesis and Leydig cell function. It seems likely that development of TGCC shares common etiological factors with development other types of testicular dysfunction. This suggestion is supported by the observation that men with various types of gonadal dysfunction such as testicular dysgenesis, androgen insensitivity syndrome, and cryptorchidism have increased risk of testicular cancer. Epidemiological and clinical data indicate common etiology between testicular germ cell cancer and other abnormalities in male reproductive health such as infertility and cryptorchidism. These observations are in agreement with the suggestions of hormonal involvement in the etiology of testicular cancer. It is well documented that testicular cancer is associated with impaired spermatogenic function and some patients have impairment of Leydig's cell function already before orchidectomy. The degree of spermatogenic dysfunction is higher than what can be explained by local tumor effect and by a general cancer effect. These observations are supported by histological investigations, which have shown a high prevalence of abnormalities of spermatogenesis in the contralateral testis in patients with unilateral TGCC. The spermatogenetic function is still severely impaired after orchidectomy and radiotherapy as well as chemotherapy induce further dose-dependent impairment of spermatogenesis. Recovery of spermatogenesis after treatment may be long, in some patients lasting more than 5 years. Sufficient androgen production is seen in the majority of the patients but some patients do suffer from testosterone deficiency. The effect of chemotherapy on Leydig's cell function seems to be dose dependent. Trials on protection of spermatogenetic function against the harmful effects of radiotherapy and chemotherapy by suppression of spermatogenesis has not been successful. The only way to maintain fertility is to limit gonadal exposure to harmful agents. Moreover cryopreservation of semen should be done before treatment. The optimal time for cryopreservation is before orchiectomy at least in some patients. Generally men with TGCC need counselling about their reproductive function, with respect to semen cryopreservation, chance for recovery of spermatogenesis, fertility, and the possibility of need for androgen replacement.  相似文献

Fifty-three patients with testicular injury were investigated. Four (8%) had bilateral testicular injury and 15 (28%) had associated injuries, such as penile, spermatic cord, epididymal disruption, thigh, urethral, perineal skin avulsion, femoral vessel disruption and axillary venous injury. The mode of testicle trauma was blunt in 36 (63%) and penetrating in 21 (37%) cases. Early exploration was done in 43 (81%) patients including 4 with bilateral testicular injury: hematoma evacuation in 23 (49%), partial orchiectomy in 16 (34%) and total orchiectomy in 8 (17%) cases, respectively. Otherwise, delayed exploration, due to the late presentation of more than 3 days after trauma, was done in the remaining 10 (19%) patients: hematoma evacuation in 6 (60%) and partial orchiectomy in 4 (40%) cases. The testicle salvage rate was 49/57 (86%), depending on the nature of testicular trauma. Hospitalization for uncomplicated cases was 4.82 +/- 1.85 days, with prolongation to 10.79 +/- 3.64 days (p < 0.05) for patients having associated injuries. Exploration is advocated in all cases of hematocele, irrespective of testicle contusion or rupture. As minimal, the blood-clot from the tunica vaginalis sac should be evacuated, which would relieve disability and hasten recovery.  相似文献

In an attempt to determine whether the seminiferous tubular atrophy of the cryptorchid testis is preventable by early surgical correction of the cryptorchid state, aberrantly developed gubernacula destined to result in a cryptorchid testis in the Long-Evans cryptorchid (LE/ORL) rat were surgically reimplanted to the bottom of the scrotum on day 10 to 12 of age. Testis descent was monitored and the changes in testicular histology and in the volumes of the seminiferous tubules and Leydig cells were examined at day 60. As expected, normal testis descent occurred on or about day 25. Compared to untreated undescended testes at day 60, relative seminiferous tubular volumes (volume: % +/- SEM) were significantly increased by early surgical reimplantation of the gubemacula (89 +/- 1 vs. 66 +/- 3; P < 0.01). Absolute seminiferous tubular volumes (microliter +/- SEM) were also significantly increased by early surgical intervention when compared to undescended nontreated testes (893 +/- 27 vs. 170 +/- 12; P < 0.01). The testes of the surgically corrected cryptorchid animals were similar in all respects to those found in the descended testes of the sham-operated controls. Relative Leydig cell volume (% +/- SEM) was increased in the untreated cryptorchid testes compared to the surgically corrected testes (5.2 +/- 0.6 vs. 1.2 +/- 1.0; P < 0.05). Relative Leydig cell volumes in the surgically corrected testes were not significantly different from those found in the sham-operated descended controls. A modest but significant (P < 0.05) increase in absolute Leydig cell volume was also noted in the cryptorchid testes when compared both to normal controls or surgically corrected cryptorchid testes. From these observations, we conclude that early gubernaculopexy reverses the histologic changes normally seen in the cryptorchid rat testis to a relatively normal histologic architecture. These data provide experimental evidence to support the value of orchiopexy in the treatment of cryptorchidism.  相似文献

Chromosome analysis was performed in 160 patients with cryptorchidism. Chromosomal anomalies were found in 7 patients (4.4%). The incidence of chromosomal abnormalities was not significantly different between patients with bilateral or unilateral cryptorchidism. Of 7 patients, 1 had sex chromosomal aberration, 2 had marker chromosome and 4 had autosomal anomalies. Additional congenital anomalies were observed in 1 with sex chromosomal aberration, 2 with marker chromosome and 2 with autosomal anomaly. These facts indicate that we had better perform chromosome analysis in all patients with bilateral or unilateral cryptorchidism.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Approximately 5% of patients with testicular cancer harbour carcinoma in situ (CIS) in the contralateral testis. CIS will progress into invasive tumour in about 50% of cases within five years. The present study evaluated the effect of platinum containing chemotherapy on CIS. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Thirty-three patients with disseminated germ-cell cancer and biopsy proven CIS of the testis were evaluated. RESULTS: CIS had disappeared in the first follow-up biopsy in 30 patients. Six patients had a relapse of CIS with or without invasive cancer after 30, 31, 47, 51, 76 and 95 months from start of chemotherapy. Two relapses were among six patients who initially received cisplatin, vinblastine and bleomycine and four among 27 patients who initially received cisplatin, etoposide and bleomycine. The estimated cumulative risk of CIS five and 10 years after chemotherapy was 21% and 42%, respectively. The estimated cumulative incidence of spermatogenesis was 64% and 81% at five and 10 years of follow-up, respectively. CONCLUSION: Platinum containing chemotherapy may eradicate CIS. However, patients with CIS may develop invasive cancer in spite of chemotherapy. In the light of the present data, we recommend radiotherapy to the affected testicle in patients with CIS in the contralateral testis and in patients with bilateral testicular CIS. In patients with extragonadal disease and CIS in one testicle, orchiectomy of the affected testicle is recommended. In patients for whom future fertility is an important issue, follow-up including repeated biopsies can be offered for a period of at least 10 years.  相似文献

Idiopathic varicocele can compromise the spermatogenetic function of the testicle and associate with alterations of the semen quality. The treatment of varicocele stops the progress of testicular damage and improves spermatogenesis and semen parameters. These are the main alternatives to the traditional surgical treatment of varicocele retrograde percutaneous occlusion of the internal spermatic vein using sclerosing agents and embolizing devices (either separately or in combination), microsurgical ligation via inguinal or sub-inguinal approach, laparoscopic ligation and, more recently, antegrade scrotal sclerotherapy. None of these techniques can be considered the "gold standard" therapy. Literature does not point out any significant difference between them, either considering the absence of reflux percentage, or the improvement of semen quality, or the pregnance rate. Therefore cost comparison may be a valid criterion in the choice of treatment for varicocele correction. The total cost of the surgical retroperitoneal unilateral ligation of the internal spermatic vein is 968,805 Lire, while for the bilateral ligation it is 1,118,285 Lire. The costs of sclerotherapy and percutaneous embolization are respectively of 698,750 Lire and 1,708,950 Lire. The combination of the two techniques amounts to 1,918,230 Lire. Laparoscopic bilateral ligation costs 2,437,935 Lire. Antegrade scrotal sclerotherapy costs 191,035 Lire if unilateral, 216,580 Lire if bilateral. After considering these data we can say that antegrade scrotal sclerotherapy is the first choice economically in the treatment of both unilateral and bilateral varicocele.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: Between May 1, 1992 and August 1, 1996, 759 consecutive children younger than 10 years of age were evaluated and treated for known inguinal hernia. These children were participating in a prospective investigation of the potential role of diagnostic laparoscopy in the evaluation of the contralateral inguinal anatomy. The initial two series of data (parts I and II of this three-part series) were previously presented at the 1993 and 1995 American Academy of Pediatrics meetings. METHODS: Of 759 patients, 100 children were diagnosed with bilateral inguinal hernias and therefore did not undergo laparoscopy. Thirty-two patients did not undergo laparoscopic evaluation due to technical difficulties or complicated clinical situations. The patient's contralateral inguinal region was carefully examined under anesthesia, and predictions were made regarding the likelihood of contralateral patent processus vaginalis (CPPV). Six hundred twenty-seven children underwent diagnostic laparoscopy to confirm the presence or absence of CPPV. Laparoscopy was initially exclusively performed through the umbilicus prior to repair of the known hernia, but over the last 26 months, 250 children successfully underwent laparoscopy through the ipsilateral hernia sac. RESULTS: Of patients younger than 1 year of age, 114 were diagnosed with both a known unilateral hernia and CPPV, whereas 132 had a unilateral hernia only (46% versus 54%). Among children older than 1 year of age, 148 (39%) were diagnosed with unilateral hernia and CPPV, and 233 (61%) were diagnosed with a unilateral hernia alone. After examination under anesthesia, 233 of the 627 patients were suspected of having a CPPV, and 107 were confirmed at laparoscopy (46%). The remaining 394 patients were not believed to have a CPPV. Normal inguinal anatomy was confirmed in 234 patients (59%), but 160 patients were found at laparoscopy to have a CPPV (41%). CONCLUSIONS: A contralateral patent processus vaginalis may be present in a surprising number of young patients being evaluated for a known inguinal hernia. Laparoscopy can be performed without a separate incision when the ipsilateral hernia sac is of sufficient width to allow passage of the scope. Laparoscopy is the best method for evaluating the contralateral inguinal region, particularly in younger children, as it prevents unnecessary inguinal exploration and it decreases the risk that the child will later present with a clinical contralateral hernia.  相似文献

PURPOSE: We investigated the neonatal piglet as a possible animal model for cryptorchidism and to determine whether calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP), which has been proposed to regulate inguinoscrotal testicular descent, could induce testicular descent in piglets with congenital cryptorchidism. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We examined 38 cryptorchid piglets to document the anatomy in 8 and to investigate the role of CGRP in 30. The 2-week-old piglets were allocated randomly to receive a mini-osmotic pump containing CGRP at various concentrations or phosphate buffered saline. The pump was inserted surgically into the ipsilateral scrotum, with the contents blinded to the surgeon. The positions of the testes, pump and anatomical landmarks were measured and photographed. The pigs were sacrificed and dissected 2 weeks later, and the positions were remeasured and photographed. The testes were examined histologically. RESULTS: The 3 variants of cryptorchidism observed were intra-abdominal in 20 cases, inguinal in 9 and lateral inguinal ectopic in 9. CGRP had no effect on intra-abdominal or ectopic testes. In contrast, for inguinal testes exogenous CGRP caused a slight but significant 10 +/- 7.9 mm. descent towards the pump in 5 cases compared to -2.9 +/- 5.8 mm. in 4 controls. CONCLUSIONS: Exogenous CGRP stimulated migration of inguinal testes that had been arrested in the line of descent while ectopic testes did not respond. These results support a role for CGRP in testicular descent and suggest that a slow release depot preparation might be useful as a possible treatment in some forms of cryptorchidism.  相似文献

This unusual pathology has not been described in the medical literature of the last ten years. A 39-year-old patient, affected by unilateral cryptorchidism, on the right side, and congenital inguinal hernia, reached the operating theatre suffering from occlusive intestinal syndrome, due to a clogged hernial sac. This clog was caused by a retracting testicle which in turn stopped the ileal ansa from slipping back in to the peritoneum. Through this case we can underline the excursus of such pathology, which isn't very frequent in the adult but can, nevertheless create a fairly serious pathology, often leading to neoplan.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to determine whether a prior diagnostic testicle biopsy can predict success or failure of testicular sperm extraction (TESE) with intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) in patients with non-obstructive azoospermia caused by testicular failure, and what is the minimum threshold of sperm production in the testis which must be surpassed for spermatozoa to reach the ejaculate. Forty-five patients with non-obstructive azoospermia caused by testicular failure underwent diagnostic testicle biopsy prior to a planned future TESE-ICSI procedure. The diagnostic testicle biopsy was analysed quantitatively, and correlated with the quantitative findings of spermatogenesis in patients with normal spermatogenesis, as well as with the results of subsequent attempts at TESE-ICSI. Men with non-obstructive azoospermia caused by germinal failure had a mean of 0-6 mature spermatids/seminiferous tubule seen on a diagnostic testicle biopsy, compared to 17-35 mature spermatids/tubule in men with normal spermatogenesis and obstructive azoospermia. These findings were the same for all types of testicular failure whether Sertoli cell only, maturation arrest, cryptorchidism, or post-chemotherapy azoospermia. Twenty-two of 26 men with mature spermatids found in the prior testis biopsy had successful retrieval of spermatozoa for ICSI, 12 of their partners became pregnant, and are either ongoing or delivered. The study suggests that 4-6 mature spermatids/tubule must be present in the testis biopsy for any spermatozoa to reach the ejaculate. More than half of azoospermic patients with germinal failure have minute foci of spermatogenesis which are insufficient to produce spermatozoa in the ejaculate. Prior diagnostic testicle biopsy analysed quantitatively (for the presence of mature spermatids) can predict subsequent success or failure with TESE-ICSI. Incomplete testicular failure may involve a sparse multi-focal distribution of spermatogenesis throughout the entire testicle, rather than a regional distribution. Therefore, it is possible that massive testicular sampling from many different regions of the testes may not be necessary for successful TESE-ICSI.  相似文献

AIM: of this study is to compare two similar groups presenting inguinal herniae, one group having laparoscopic herniography and the other having a Bassini or Fruchaud repair. METHOD: Since September 1994, in our department, patients presenting with symptoms of unilateral or bilateral inguinal herniae to our practice were offered the transperitoneal or preperitoneal approach as an alternative of open surgical repair. We considered the first 50 patients operated by laparoscopic technic (35 M and 15 F), age between 22-72 years (group A), and similar group operated by Bassini or Fruchaud technic (group B). All the patients had general anesthesia and perioperative antibiotics. In the group A we used Prolene, Mercilene or Plastex mesh. The following parameters were assessed: 1) operative time from incision to closure: 2) amount and type of analgesia required postoperatively; 3) morbidity related to the procedure; 4) interval before returning to full activity; 5) early recurrence rate; 6) hospital cost. RESULTS: The mean operative time for unilateral herniae in group A was 70 +/- 10 minutes versus 40 +/- 12 minutes in group B. Group A required to return to work was significantly shorter for the patients in group A (7 +/- 3 days) compared with group B patients (25 +/- 10 days). Although no recurrent herniae have yet been found in patients from either group; follow-up was only 2-18 months in the two groups. The cost of hospital care of group A patients exceeded that of group B by approximately 1.7 more. IN CONCLUSION: was consider that although is more expensive, the laparoscopic procedure in treatment of inguinal herniae, has more benefits for the patients.  相似文献

The dependence of spermatogenesis on the relatively cool environment of the scrotum is well known, and recent work has shown that germ cells undergo apoptosis upon exposure to abdominal temperature. p53 is a potent inducer of apoptosis and regulator of cell growth, and is found in high concentrations in the testis. The purpose of this study was to determine whether exposure of the testes to suprascrotal temperature was associated with alterations in testicular p53 expression. Male adult CD-1 mice were rendered unilaterally cryptorchid by surgically fixing one testis to the anterior abdominal wall while leaving the contralateral tests in the scrotum to serve as the euthermic control. p53 expression was evaluated in the cytoplasmic, soluble nuclear, and insoluble fractions by Western blot analysis with the monoclonal p53 antibody pAb240. The weights of the scrotal testes were unchanged over the 15 day study period. The weights of the cryptorchid testes remained stable for 7 days and then decreased by approximately 40% over the next two days. Histological evidence of germ cell loss was evident only after day 7. Altered expression of p53 protein in the cryptorchid testis was noted beginning on day 7, and consisted of the expression of a new 47 kD isoform of p53 in the cytosolic form and a 30 kD isoform in the soluble nuclear fraction. Scrotal testes showed no changes at any time point. These results demonstrate altered expression of the regulatory protein p53 beginning 1-2 days prior to the onset of germ cell loss following experimental unilateral cryptorchidism. Given the known function of p53 as an inducer of apoptotic cell death, these observations suggest a significant role for p53 in temperature-mediated germ cell loss.  相似文献
