In global mobility networks, anonymous user authentication is an essential task for enabling roaming service. In a recent paper, Jiang et al. proposed a smart card based anonymous user authentication scheme for roaming service in global mobility networks. This scheme can protect user privacy and is believed to have many abilities to resist a range of network attacks, even if the secret information stored in the smart card is compromised. In this paper, we analyze the security of Jiang et al.’s scheme, and show that the scheme is in fact insecure against the stolen-verifier attack and replay attack. Then, we also propose a new smart card based anonymous user authentication scheme for roaming service. Compared with the existing schemes, our protocol uses a different user authentication mechanism, which does not require the home agent to share a static secret key with the foreign agent, and hence, it is more practical and realistic. We show that our proposed scheme can provide stronger security than previous protocols.

Recently, Chang, Lee, and Chiu proposed an enhanced anonymous authentication scheme which permits mobile users to anonymously enjoy roaming service in global mobile networks. In this letter, we show that their scheme fails to achieve the anonymity by providing four attack strategies. Moreover, we show that anyone can recover a mobile user?s session keys by using the identity of the mobile user. Hence, Chang et al.'s scheme cannot provide secure key establishing service since an adversary can recover the identity of a mobile user by performing one of our attacks.

Recently, two authentication schemes with anonymity for roaming service in wireless networks were proposed by He et al. and Xu et al. In this paper we point out that neither of the two schemes is sufficiently practical owing to the high computational cost involved. Furthermore, we also find that both schemes still have some weaknesses which allow the attacker to trace a certain user's behaviors and thus infer his real identity. Thereafter, we propose a novel lightweight authentication scheme with anonymity for roaming service in global mobility networks to overcome the aforementioned defects. Moreover, we formally analyze our proposed scheme with BAN‐logic and show that it can withstand several possible attacks. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Ubiquitous networks provide roaming service for mobile nodes enabling them to use the services extended by their home networks in a foreign network. A mutual authentication scheme between the roamed mobile node and the foreign network is needed to be performed through the home network. Various authentication schemes have been developed for such networks, but most of them failed to achieve security in parallel to computational efficiency. Recently, Shin et al. and Wen et al. separately proposed two efficient authentication schemes for roaming service in ubiquitous networks. Both argued their schemes to satisfy all the security requirements for such systems. However, in this paper, we show that Shin et al. 's scheme is susceptible to: (i) user traceability; (ii) user impersonation; (iii) service provider impersonation attacks; and (iv) session key disclosure. Furthermore, we show that Wen et al. 's scheme is also insecure against: (i) session key disclosure; and (ii) known session key attacks. To conquer the security problems, we propose an improved authentication scheme with anonymity for consumer roaming in ubiquitous networks. The proposed scheme not only improved the security but also retained a lower computational cost as compared with existing schemes. We prove the security of proposed scheme in random oracle model. The use of anonymous channel tickets was proposed for authentication in wireless environments to provide user anonymity and to probably reduce the overhead of re‐authentications. Recently, Yang et al. proposed a secure and efficient authentication protocol for anonymous channel in wireless systems without employing asymmetric cryptosystems. In this paper, we will show that Yang et al.'s scheme is vulnerable to guessing attacks performed by malicious visited networks, which can easily obtain the secret keys of the users. We propose a new practical authentication scheme not only reserving the merits of Yang et al.'s scheme, but also extending some additional merits including: no verification table in the home network, free of time synchronization between mobile stations and visited networks, and without obsolete anonymous tickets left in visited networks. The proposed scheme is developed based on a secure one‐way hash function and simple operations, a feature which is extremely fit for mobile devices. We provide the soundness of the authentication protocol by using VO logic. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Designing a user authentication protocol with anonymity for the global mobility network (GLOMONET) is a difficult task because wireless networks are susceptible to attacks and each mobile user has limited power, processing and storage resources. In this paper, a secure and lightweight user authentication protocol with anonymity for roaming service in the GLOMONET is proposed. Compared with other related approaches, our proposal has many advantages. Firstly, it uses low-cost functions such as one-way hash functions and exclusive-OR operations to achieve security goals. Having this feature, it is more suitable for battery-powered mobile devices. Secondly, it uses nonces instead of timestamps to avoid the clock synchronization problem. Therefore, an additional clock synchronization mechanism is not needed. Thirdly, it only requires four message exchanges between the user, foreign agent and home agent. Further, the security properties of our protocol are formally validated by a model checking tool called AVISPA. We also demonstrate that this protocol enjoys important security attributes including prevention of various attacks, single registration, user anonymity, no password table, and high efficiency in password authentication. Security and performance analyses show that compared with other related authentication schemes, the proposed scheme is more secure and efficient.

Global mobility network (GLOMONET) provides global roaming service to ensure ubiquitous connectivity for users traveling from one network to another. It is very crucial not only to authenticate roaming users, but to protect the privacy of users. However, due to the broadcast nature of wireless channel and resource limitations of terminals, providing efficient user authentication with privacy preservation is challenging. Recently, He et al. proposed a secure and lightweight user authentication scheme with anonymity for roaming service in GLOMONETs. However, in this paper, we identify that the scheme fails to achieve strong two-factor security, and suffers from domino effect, privileged insider attack and no password change option, etc. Then we propose an enhanced authentication scheme with privacy preservation based on quadratic residue assumption. Our improved scheme enhances security strength of He et al.’s protocol while inheriting its merits of low communication and computation cost. Specifically, our enhanced scheme achieves two-factor security and user untraceability.

Seamless roaming in the global mobility network (GLOMONET) is highly desirable for mobile users, although their proper authentication is challenging. This is because not only are wireless networks susceptible to attacks, but also mobile terminals have limited computational power. Recently, some authentication schemes with anonymity for the GLOMONET have been proposed. This paper shows some security weaknesses in those schemes. Furthermore, a lightweight and provably secure user authentication scheme with anonymity for the GLOMONET is proposed. It uses only symmetric cryptographic and hash operation primitives for secure authentication. Besides, it takes only four message exchanges among the user, foreign agent and home agent. We also demonstrate that this protocol enjoys important security attributes including prevention of various attacks, single registration, user anonymity, user friendly, no password/verifier table, and use of one‐time session key between mobile user and foreign agent. The security properties of the proposed protocol are formally validated by a model checking tool called AVISPA. Furthermore, as one of the new features in our protocol, it can defend smart card security breaches. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

The concept of anonymous channel ticket is one of the effective measures to protect user privacy and to reduce the overhead of re-authentication for wireless environments. Most recently, Hsieh et al. proposed an anonymous authentication protocol based on elliptic curve cryptography to enhance the efficiency and security strength. However, we identify that Hsieh et al.’s scheme has four weaknesses. (1) The scheme fails to provide identity anonymity. (2) The ticket authentication phase of the scheme suffers from desynchronization attack. (3) The scheme is vulnerable to the privileged insider attack. (4) Users cannot change passwords when required. We further propose an improved authentication scheme, which not only preserves the merits of the scheme of Hsieh et al., but also enjoys several other advantages. Our improved scheme is effective in protection from the weaknesses identified and achieves user anonymity and unlinkability. We compare the functionality and performance of our improved scheme with other related schemes, which indicates that our scheme is more secure and yet efficient for wireless access networks.

Rapid development of wireless networks brings about many security problems in portable communication systems (PCSs), which can provide mobile users with an opportunity to enjoy global roaming services. In this regard, designing a secure user authentication scheme, especially for recognizing legal roaming users, is indeed a challenging task. It is noticed that there is no delegation-based protocol for PCSs, which can guarantee anonymity, untraceability, perfect forward secrecy, and resistance of denial-of-service (DoS) attack. Therefore, in this article, we put forward a novel delegation-based anonymous and untraceable authentication protocol, which can guarantee to resolve all the abovementioned security issues and hence offer a solution for secure communications for PCSs.

In this digital era, two entities can exchange the messages over internet even through the physical distance between them is much far. Before exchange they require to authenticate each other via authentication scheme. Biometric is one of the unique feature for each entity and can be accustomed to identify the authenticity of the entity. Motivated by this, many researchers had proposed the various schemes based on biometric feature for authentication using smart card. As smart card is not a temper resistance consummately, various attacks have been identified by the researchers in the biometric based authentication schemes. In this paper we review Wen et al.’s scheme and we find that Wen et al.’s scheme is vulnerable to insider attack, denial of service attack and user anonymity cannot achieve by them. Then we propose new remote user authentication algorithm where our algorithm is secure.

An authentication scheme is one of the most basic and important security mechanisms for satellite communication systems because it prevents illegal access by an adversary. Lee et al. recently proposed an efficient authentication scheme for mobile satellite communication systems. However, we observed that this authentication scheme is vulnerable to a denial of service (DoS) attack and does not offer perfect forward secrecy. Therefore, we propose a novel secure authentication scheme without verification table for mobile satellite communication systems. The proposed scheme can simultaneously withstand DoS attacks and support user anonymity and user unlinkability. In addition, the proposed scheme is based on the elliptic curve cryptosystem, has low client‐side and server‐side computation costs, and achieves perfect forward secrecy. A dynamic user authentication scheme allows a user and a remote server to authenticate each other without leaking the user's identity. In 2011, Wen and Li proposed an improved dynamic ID‐based remote user authentication with key agreement scheme for mobile and home networks. They claimed that their scheme was more secure than the scheme of Wang et al. However, we demonstrate that their scheme is vulnerable to the privileged insider, off‐line password guessing, impersonation, and server spoofing attacks. At the same time, it does not provide any user anonymity and forward secrecy property. Thus, it is not feasible for real‐life implementation.Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Nowadays, authentication protocols are essential for secure communications specially for roaming networks, distributed computer networks, and remote wireless communication. The numerous users in these networks rise vulnerabilities. Thus, privacy‐preserving methods have to be run to provide more reliable services and sustain privacy. Anonymous authentication is a method to remotely authenticate users with no revelation about their identity. In this paper, we analyze 2 smart card–based protocols that the user's identity is anonymous. However, we represent that they are vulnerable to privileged insider attack. It means that the servers can compromise the users' identity for breaking their privacy. Also, we highlight that the Wen et al protocol has flaws in both stolen smart card and stolen server attacks and the Odelu et al protocol is traceable. Then, we propose 2 modified anonymous authentication protocols. Finally, we analyze our improved protocols with both heuristic and formal methods.

With the continue evaluation of mobile devices in terms of the capabilities and services, security concerns increase dramatically. To provide secured communication in mobile client–server environment, many user authentication protocols from pairings have been proposed. In 2009, Goriparthi et al. proposed a new user authentication scheme for mobile client–server environment. In 2010, Wu et al. demonstrated that Goriparthi et al.’s protocol fails to provide mutual authentication and key agreement between the client and the server. To improve security, Wu et al. proposed an improved protocol and demonstrated that their protocol is provably secure in random oracle model. Based on Wu et al.’s work, Yoon et al. proposed another scheme to improve performance. However, their scheme just reduces one hash function operation at the both of client side and the server side. In this paper, we present a new user authentication and key agreement protocol using bilinear pairings for mobile client–server environment. Performance analysis shows that our protocol has better performance than Wu et al.’s protocol and Yoon et al.’s protocol. Then our protocol is more suited for mobile client–server environment. Security analysis is also given to demonstrate that our proposed protocol is provably secure against previous attacks.

Nowadays, the password-based remote user authentication mechanism using smart card is one of the simplest and convenient authentication ways to ensure secure communications over the public network environments. Recently, Liu et al. proposed an efficient and secure smart card based password authentication scheme. However, we find that Liu et al.’s scheme is vulnerable to the off-line password guessing attack and user impersonation attack. Furthermore, it also cannot provide user anonymity. In this paper, we cryptanalyze Liu et al.’s scheme and propose a security enhanced user authentication scheme to overcome the aforementioned problems. Especially, in order to preserve the user anonymity and prevent the guessing attack, we use the dynamic identity technique. The analysis shows that the proposed scheme is more secure and efficient than other related authentication schemes.
