Pulse sources based on lithium niobate modulators are very attractive for optical time division multiplexing (OTDM) transmission systems because the modulators are now commercially available,qualified for system use,and can operate up to very high speeds and over a wide wavelength range.In this paper,we describe the principles of operation and performance of the pulse source based on lithium niobate modulators.The pulse source is based on a Mach-Zehnder intensity modulator (IM) and two phase modulators (PMs).The continuouswave (CW) light is modulated in an IM and then strongly phase modulated in two cascaded PMs.The chirped pulses are subsequently compressed to desired width using dispersion compensation technology.This method has the advantage of acquiring larger chirp using normal PM rather than that special designed PM of very low Vπ.It can also generate shorter pulses than conventional methods incorporating only one PM driving by a radio frequency (RF) signal with the power larger than 1 W which may damage the device.Generation of 40 GHz optical pulses shorter than 2 ps is theoretically illustrated,simulated and experimentally verified.Experimental results show that 40 GHz phase stable optical pulses with pulse-width of 1.88 ps,extinction ratio (ER) larger than 20 dB,the timing jitter of 57 fs and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of 32.8 dB can be achieved.This is also a cavity-less pulse source whose timing jitter is determined only by the RF source rather than by the actively controlled cavity.In the experiment,the phase noise of the RF source we used is as low as -98.13 dBc/Hz at a 10 kHz offset frequency which resulting very low timing jitter of generated pulses.The pulses are then modulated at 40 Gbaud/s with an inphase/quadrature (l/Q) modulator and multiplexed to 160 Gbaud/s with less interference between each other.After back-to-back demultiplexing by an electro-absorption modulator (EAM) to 40 Gbaud/s and demodulation by a delay interferometer (DI),clear and opened eye diagrams of 40 Gbaud/s I and Q tributary signals are obtained which verify the good performance of generated pulses in the 160Gbaud/s differential quadrature phase shift keying (DQPSK) OTDM system and further prove the phase stability and high quality of generated pulses.  相似文献

研究了一种采用两个级联外部调制器基于光载波抑制原理产生四倍频毫米波的光纤无线通信(ROF)系统.在中心站利用电混频器产生副载波复用信号,通过第一个外部调制器产生两倍射频(RF)信号的光载毫米波信号,再通过第二个外部调制器产生四倍射频信号的光载毫米波.实验显示采用频率为10 GHz的射频信号源和2.5 Gbit/s的数据基带信号混频通过两个级联外部凋制器后产生毫米波的频率为40 GHz,并且在单模光纤中传输距离达20 km,功率代价小于2 dB.  相似文献

提出了一种基于相位调制器(PM)和可调谐光滤波器产生线性调频激光信号的方法。该方法利用带有基频的微波线性调频信号作为相位调制器的驱动信号,窄线宽的激光种子源经相位调制器调制后产生一系列的宽带线性调频激光信号。通过可调谐光滤波器抑制其他边带保留所需阶次的线性调频激光信号。实验结果表明:当光滤波器保留正二阶调频激光信号时,获得了调频带宽为2 GHz、调频速率为6 THz/s的线性调频激光信号。在观测时间为1 ms时,测得的线性调频激光信号的瞬时线宽为3.2 kHz。该方法结构简单,易于实现,并且对调频连续波激光雷达、相干光谱分析等测量应用有重要意义。  相似文献

This paper describes improvements in facsimile receivers for newspaper transmission made by replacing conventional crater tube light sources with He-Ne laser lights. This replacement allows the system to operate at wider frequency bandwidth and provides stronger writing light intensity and longer system durability. The light intensity of the writing source is modulated by a Teglass acoustooptic modulator developed at the present laboratory and is operated under Raman-Nath mode of diffraction. Instabilities in the system have been corrected by a feedback loop using one of the two first-order diffracted lights as an intensity watcher. Experiments show that a filmed image with a transmission density of 3.9 and density rising time of 1μs can be obtained by using an acoustooptic modulator operated at a driving frequency of 40 MHz, an RF power of 300 mW, and an incident light beam diameter of 1 mm.  相似文献

为了延长光毫米波的传输距离,提出了一种改进的光载波抑制产生光毫米波的方法。在中心站采用马赫-曾德尔调制器将射频信号调制到光载波上产生光载波抑制调制光信号,再将产生光信号的2个边带分离,将2.5Gbit/s数据信号调制到其中1个边带上,再与未调信号耦合后产生光毫米波并通过光纤传送至基站。在基站中通过光电转换器产生电毫米波。从理论上分析了这种光毫米波的传输特性并通过实验验证了光毫米波在光纤中可以传输40km。仿真和实验结果表明,这种方式产生的光毫米波具有很好的抗色散能力,延长了传输距离。  相似文献

为了优化宽泛可调的低频基准射频信号系统、降低射频生成系统的相位噪声,采用减少部件的优化设计方法,使用调幅器改善相位噪声,实现了系统设计的简化。经过理论分析和实验验证,取得了低频射频信号条件下的系统相位噪声与频率偏移数据。结果表明,可以通过机械隔离来消除由于光纤振动产生的过量相位噪声。这在未来的光通信领域中具有一定的应用价值和实际意义。  相似文献

实验研究了一种基于相位调制器(PM)并级联强度调制器(IM)实现40 GHz毫米波传输正交频分复用(OFDM)信号的光纤无线通信(ROF)系统。在中心站,采用20 GHz的射频(RF)信号驱动PM,调节驱动信号的强度,使输出的信号经光纤布拉格光栅(FBG)滤除中心载波后再送入IM。2.5 Gbit/s的OFDM信号直接调制在光毫米波上,经过50 km标准的单模光纤(SSMF)传输到基站。在基站,光调制信号经光电转换器(PD)转换成电调制信号,再与RF信号混频,恢复出基带OFDM信号。实验结果表明,在无色散补偿、误码率(BER)为10-3的条件下,下行链路中2.5 Gbit/s的OFDM信号经光纤传输50 km后,其功率代价小于1 dB,而且信号的星座图依然较好。  相似文献

This paper reports on optical pulse generation using a new guided-wave electrooptic (EO) phase modulator with long resonant electrodes and polarization reversal. Adopting polarization-reversal structure to a guided-wave EO modulator with long standing-wave resonant electrodes, high-efficiency optical modulation is obtained by the compensation of the transit-time effect. By operating a fabricated EO phase modulator with a large amplitude modulation signal, optical sidebands over 100 GHz were obtained. Furthermore, optical pulse trains of an /spl sim/ 25-ps pulsewidth and a 15.28-GHz repetition frequency were successfully obtained by controlling the generated optical sidebands by use of an optical synthesizer.  相似文献

合成孔径激光雷达是利用同一孔径(望远镜)与目标作相对运动并采用信号处理方法来模拟孔径阵列,获得高方位(横向)分辨率的相干成像雷达.采用窄线宽的单频光纤激光光源和相干探测方法;发射光波被啁啾信号作幅度调制,接收后进行距离向脉冲压缩;激光雷达和目标相对运动引起的回波相位变化,由相关运算实现相位补偿和累加(孔径合成),以提高方位向分辨率.提出了新的工作体制:距离向啁啾信号调制在发射光波振幅(强度)上,方位向多普勒频移反映在回波光波相位(频率)上,便于解决距离向与方位向之间的耦合模糊问题.报道了中期实验成果:Chirp 射频信号调制激光强度,实现合成孔径激光雷达距离向的压缩.  相似文献

为了提升光载射频传输链路的链路增益以及传输距离,采用了L波段的超长分布式2阶喇曼放大器结构对光信号进行放大。从理论上对分布式2阶喇曼放大器以及光载射频传输链路的原理进行了解释,利用信号光、1阶抽运光、2阶抽运光以及噪声之间的耦合方程组分析了它们之间的关系,并且得到了基于超长分布式2阶喇曼放大器的光载射频传输系统的1阶射频信号增益。通过数值仿真以及系统实验得到了抽运功率大小对超长分布式2阶喇曼放大器的开关增益的影响、光载射频传输系统在0GHz~7GHz范围内的频率响应及其射频增益以及该光载射频传输链路在应用超长分布式2阶喇曼放大器后的相位噪声情况。结果表明,光载射频传输在超长分布式2阶喇曼放大器的作用下获得了28.1dB的链路增益,在距离为80.94km的光链路上实现了近似无损传输,射频信号开关增益与射频信号频率无关。该研究在光载射频链路的长距离传输中有重要的应用价值。  相似文献

提出了一种将低速基带信号直调产生的宽谱信号,注入至用于上变频的分布反馈式半导体激光器(DFB-LD),利用调制信号光谱中的高阶分量对从激光器进行相位锁定,从而产生光学上变频信号的方法。对直调信号注入锁定DFB-LD产生光学上变频信号的机理进行了理论分析,完成了2.5Gb/s伪随机码基带信号通过直调并注入从激光器,分别产生了30,35,40GHz副载波频率的全光上变频信号的实验,并在时域和频域上,对上变频信号的特征进行了研究。该方案结构简单,无需高速外调制器及高频本振,具有集成潜力,理论上可产生更高载频(如60GHz),对目前的光-无线混合接入提供了一种可行的解决方案。  相似文献

提出了一种基于直流光注入直接调制分布反馈式半导体激光器(DFB-LD)的载波可调的光毫米波生成方案,利用直接调制DFB-LD的输出瞬态波长随驱动电流增大而蓝移的特点,将直流光注入至直调DFB-LD的0码波长附近注入锁定。锁定的直调激光器在1码时输出的蓝移波长与原注入波长相位相干,再通过光电探测器将拍频信号转换为调制的光毫米波信号。实验重点讨论了40GHz光毫米波的产生,同时完成了30、40、50和60GHz光毫米波的可调谐性实验。本文的方案结构简单,无需外调制器和微波本振,载波可调并可产生高至60GHz光毫米波信号,可作为光/无线混合接入中成本节省的光上变频方案。  相似文献

设计了一种基于相位调制器的用于产生光脉冲和电微波信号的光电振荡器。该方案采用直调激光器配合相位调制器产生大啁啾并由DCF压窄输出光脉冲。利用偏振分束器和合束器在不增加有源器件的基础上形成双环路结构抑制微波信号的边模。该系统可以产生9.8 GHz的重复频率,脉宽小于 12 ps的光脉冲同时输出该频率的电微波信号。测得相位噪声为-105 dBc/Hz@10 kHz,Q值大于1010。  相似文献

A true time delay (TTD) beamforming system incorporating a wavelength tunable optical phase-lock loop (OPLL) module is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. In the proposed system, instead of using a high-frequency intensity modulator to modulate the optical carrier with an RF signal, we use two laser diodes (LDs) that are phase locked to generate an RF signal, which is then sent to a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) prism to produce different time delays. Since no optical intensity modulator is used, the system can operate at much higher frequencies with a reduced cost. In addition, the use of only two wavelengths eliminates the power-penalty problem caused by chromatic dispersion. In the proposed approach, the wavelengths from the two LDs are phase-locked using a frequency-discriminator-aided OPLL. A TTD beamforming system, using the OPLL in combination with an FBG prism to achieve tunable time delays, is investigated. Experimental time-delay results are provided.  相似文献

Data are presented that show that, for transporting quadrature amplitude modulated (QAM) radiofrequency (RF) subcarriers in suboctave frequency range, electroabsorption modulator integrated distributed feedback lasers (EMLs) can he modulated with significantly higher (2.5 times) modulation index without any in-band signal distortion as compared to the directly or externally modulated (using LiNbO3 MZ modulator) distributed feedback (DFB) laser transmitters in the 1.55-μm band. This occurs when the selection of frequency range and biasing the modulator section of an EML is such that the third-order intermodulation distortion is suppressed and the second-order distortion is outside the in-band frequency range. We have used an equivalent of 64- and 256-QAM 40 carriers in 550-800 MHz with the test carrier modulated with 5.063 M symbols per second. For a given bit error rate (BER), the receiver sensitivity was as much as 4 dB (optical) higher with an EML-based transmitter compared to all other transmitters. The results are presented for QAM signals but they are equally applicable for other formats of digital modulation of RF carriers, such as quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) in suboctave frequency range  相似文献

A nonlinearity-compensation-free optical frequency domain reflectometry (OFDR) scheme is proposed and experimentally demonstrated based on the electrically-controlled optical frequency sweep. In the proposed scheme, the linear frequency sweep light is generated by propagating an ultra-narrow-linewidth continuous-wave (CW) light through an electro-optic frequency shifter which consists of a dual-parallel Mach-Zehnder modulator (DPMZM) and an electronic 90° hybrid, where the electro-optic frequency shifter is driven by a linear frequency modulated signal generated by a direct digital synthesizer (DDS). Experimental results show that the spatial resolution and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the proposed OFDR scheme without the nonlinear phase compensation are comparable to those of OFDR employing a commercial tunable laser source (TLS), an auxiliary interferometer, and a software-based nonlinear phase compensation method. The proposed OFDR scheme is helpful to reduce the complexity of the optical structure and eliminate the difficulty of developing the nonlinear phase compensation algorithm.  相似文献

为降低拉曼激光的频率噪声,提出了一种相位-频率双调制稳频技术。用光纤电光相位调制器对激光进行调制并产生大失谐边带;用射频信号对光纤相位调制器的微波驱动信号进行频率调制,通过锁相放大法将一个大失谐边带锁到铷原子的饱和吸收谱线上。利用该技术实现了拉曼种子激光的稳频和2 GHz的移频,拉曼激光的线宽大幅压窄到56 kHz,预期拉曼激光频率噪声引起的原子干涉重力仪的单次测量噪声可降低到7×10-9/s2。  相似文献

An approach is proposed and demonstrated to improve the measurement range and resolution of a microwave frequency measurement system. Two optical wavelengths are modulated by a microwave signal in a Mach-Zehnder modulator (MZM). The optical output from the MZM is sent to a dispersive element to introduce different chromatic dispersions, leading to different microwave power penalties. A fixed relationship between the microwave power ratio and the microwave frequency is established. The microwave frequency is estimated by measuring the microwave powers. A new measurement range is defined with an improved measurement range and resolution. Analysis is performed and confirmed by an experiment.  相似文献
