Measurements on multielectrode distributed feedback (DFB) lasers without a saturable absorber reveal the existence of a self-pulsation (SP) regime. In this regime, the laser remains in the same single-longitudinal mode with simultaneous intensity and frequency modulation. The laser spectrum is similar to that of a current-modulated single-mode laser. At the up-limit of the SP regime, the behavior between the output power and the injection current becomes bistable. In one branch of the bistable loop, the SP laser presents a very large spectrum without distinguishable peaks, a kind of chaotic state with coherence collapse. A qualitative explanation based on the effective differential gain is given for the origin of SP and associated phenomena in these lasers  相似文献

A model of self-pulsation in two-section distributed feedback (DFB) lasers without a saturable absorber is developed by using generalized rate equations. The introduction of an effective differential gain in our model allows us to take into consideration both material and structural effects. The self-pulsation conditions are derived from a linear stability analysis. A mechanism based on a negative effective differential gain is proposed to explain the origin of self-pulsation in such lasers. By considering an injected optical signal, the optical synchronization of self-pulsating lasers is studied using nonlinear simulations. This leads to the determination of some locking-range properties, which are then compared to experimental and analytical results  相似文献

An analytic solution is presented for mode-locking a laser using a saturable absorber and reverse saturable absorber with long relaxation times compared to the temporal pulse widths. A reverse saturable absorber is a material with an excited-state absorption cross section larger than the ground-state absorption cross section, where increasing the incident light intensity increases the absorption. The reverse saturable absorber plays an important role in mode-locking laser materials where individual pulses cannot saturate the gain. A numerical example of mode-locking a CW alexandrite laser with a reverse saturable absorber and a saturable absorber is presented.  相似文献

为了实现低阈值光纤激光器的频率稳定输出,设计了环形腔光纤激光器,以光纤光栅作为波长选择元件,在未泵浦光纤饱和吸收体和其锥形化结构的协同作用下实现激光纵模选择,获得了短光纤饱和吸收体长度下的单纵模激光稳定输出。介绍了未泵浦光纤饱和吸收体选频原理和锥形结构滤波原理,实验研究了不同光纤饱和吸收体长度下激光纵模特性和波长稳定性,以及锥形化光纤饱和吸收体的激光输出特性。实验表明,引入锥形化结构的饱和吸收体后,激光器能够稳定输出1545 nm波长的单纵模激光,并有效降低光纤激光器阈值至7.58 mW,采用延迟自外差方法测得该光纤激光器的线宽小于8 kHz。  相似文献

In this paper, self-pulsation (SP) in a distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) semiconductor laser without a saturable absorber is experimentally and theoretically investigated. Detailed experimental characterizations of the SP DBR laser are reported in the optical and radio-frequency domains. Phase correlation between the longitudinal modes selected by the DBR mirror has been experimentally demonstrated. A theoretical model based on coupled rate equations for three modes has been developed to study the time evolution of phases and amplitudes of the modes. The carrier density modulation, resulting from the beating between adjacent longitudinal modes generates four-wave mixing (FWM) and is responsible for mutual injection locking, leading to passive mode-locking. The calculated power spectral density of the frequency noise derived from the model is in agreement with experimental results and proves that the phases of the longitudinal modes are identically correlated through the FWM process in this type of SP lasers  相似文献

为了验证饱和吸收体参量对被动锁模掺铥光纤激光器的输出特性的影响,基于耦合Ginzburg-Landau方程进行了数值研究,阐明了掺铥锁模光纤激光器在高调制深度饱和吸收体调制下的时域和频域特性。结果表明,优化选择的高调制深度可饱和吸收体可以有效缩短脉宽,减小时间带宽积。此研究结果对发展稳定、超快中红外超快激光具有指导意义。  相似文献

The wavelength conversion device whose frequency response is evaluated analytically and experimentally in this work has a saturable absorber region, which acts as an optical gate, within the active region. The 3-dB bandwidth of this device was measured to be 800 MHz and found to be limited by the frequency response of the saturable absorber region. To speed up this device, the electrodes of the saturable absorber and the gain regions were connected electrically so that the device would act as a unidirectional-output distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) laser. When the active region (saturable absorber and the gain regions) of this DBR laser were biased above threshold condition, the 3-dB bandwidth was more than 10 GHz, and clear eye patterns were observed when the input TM-polarized light intensity was modulated by a 10-Gbit/s pseudo-random NRZ signal. These results show that high-speed wavelength conversion can be achieved when the device is operated as a laser diode  相似文献

为了研究半导体可饱和吸收镜的被动锁模特性,采用中科院半导体所提供的半导体可饱和吸收镜,实现了脉冲式Nd:YAG激光器1.06μm激光的被动锁模,获得了稳定的皮秒激光脉冲序列输出.经自相关实验装置测量,其锁模激光脉冲宽度大约为48.2ps,脉冲序列的能量为24mJ,实验中采用直腔结构的谐振腔,该腔结构简单、易于调整.理论上分析了1.06μm半导体可饱和吸收镜结构及被动锁模基本原理,计算并模拟了半导体可饱和吸收镜中布喇格反射层不同周期时对应的反射谱图以及不同周期时中心频率处布喇格反射层的反射率曲线.结果表明,随着布喇格反射层周期数的增加,其中心波长处的反射率也随着增加.当周期数大于13时,其中心波长反射率超过99%.半导体可饱和吸收镜是实现Nd:YAG激光器的被动锁模的理想锁模器件.  相似文献

InGaN multi-quantum-well-structure (MQW) laser diodes (LDs) with Al0.14Ga0.86N/GaN modulation doped strained-layer superlattice (MD-SLS) cladding layers grown on an epitaxially laterally overgrown GaN (ELOG) substrate were demonstrated to have a lifetime of more than 1800 h under the condition of room-temperature continuous-wave operation. On the other hand, the LDs grown directly on the sapphire substrate had a lifetime of shorter than 900 h. With the operating current increasing to above the threshold, a self-pulsation was observed to have a high frequency of 3 GHz and a photon lifetime of 0.7 ps. The use of the MD-SLS was effective for reducing the operating voltage of the LDs. The ELOG substrate was used to reduce the number of threading dislocations in the InGaN MQW structure.  相似文献

The behavior of self-pulsing and nonpulsing lasers coupled to external cavities is investigated experimentally and theoretically. We investigate the dependence of the pulsation characteristics on the external cavity length using a saturable absorber model for self-pulsing lasers. It was found that quenching of self-pulsation occurs only for a certain limited range of external cavity length, and the frequencies of external-cavity induced pulsations lies within a certain range determined by the coupling coefficient. Small-signal analysis allows these ranges to be derived analytically. Hitherto, complex pulsation phenomena can be explained very intuitively by interpreting the combined laser-external cavity system as a microwave oscillator with a limited gain band and discrete mode structure.  相似文献

报道了一种基于石墨烯锁模的全保偏掺铒光纤环形短腔实现锁模激光波长切换技术。利用多层石墨烯可饱和吸收镜不仅可实现被动锁模脉冲序列的稳定输出,并可通过三维精密调节,调制腔内信号损耗,有效控制不同波长激光的增益与损耗。实验表明,通过精密调制10层石墨烯膜可饱和吸收镜,在全保偏光纤激光短腔可实现波长1532 nm和1558 nm 处的锁模激光切换输出,并可实现这两波长附近的双波长锁模激光输出,线偏振度可达18 dB。  相似文献

A fiber laser micro-nano sensor based on colloidal crystal structure is proposed in this paper.The fiber laser has stable frequency and narrow linewidth.It is realized by using an unpumped erbium-doped fiber(EDF)as the saturable absorber.The saturable absorber possesses the shape of taper.The laser threshold can be effectively reduced by the tapered saturable absorber.The tapered fiber coated with colloidal crystal as sensing unit is studied.The concentration of ethanol can be obtained from the detection of the output laser wavelength.It can be extensively used in chemical,medical and biological detections.  相似文献

Using a polarisation-maintaining erbium-doped fibre near the zero dispersion wavelength and a bulk InGaAsP saturable absorber, the authors passively modelock a fibre laser to generate nearly transformer-limited 320 fs pulses with 40 pJ energy. The laser produces a stable state of linear polarisation and the semiconductor, which acts both as a slow and fast saturable absorber, self-starts the laser.<>  相似文献

A general and straightforward model was developed for the design of passively Q-switched lasers. With the second-threshold criterion and using a numerically fitting procedure, the output pulse energy was expressed as an analytical function of the initial transmission of the saturable absorber and the reflectivity of the output coupler. An analytical expression for the optimal output reflectivity was also obtained for maximizing the output pulse energy of a passively Q-switched laser with a given initial transmission of the saturable absorber. Excellent agreement was studied between the present results and detailed theoretical computations. 报道了一种基于光纤饱和吸收体的掺镱全光纤调Q激光器,为了获得较高峰值功率较窄脉宽的激光脉冲输出,利用掺镱光纤的可饱和吸收效应,以20/130 μm规格的大模场双包层掺镱光纤作为增益光纤,以10/130 μm规格的单模双包层掺镱光纤作为可饱和吸收体来实现被动调Q。该激光器采用全光纤化的结构,结构紧凑,以较低的成本获得了较为高效的脉冲输出。最终获得了平均功率最高为3 W,直线效率约为30%,重复频率为10~100 kHz可调,脉宽最窄为344 ns,光谱宽度为0.05 nm、中心波长为1 064 nm的激光输出。  相似文献

We present measurements on an aperiodic device-specific longitudinal-mode pattern in InGaN laser diodes. The characteristic shape of this pattern occurs only if the laser is driven slightly above threshold; in addition, it tunes with temperature at exactly the same rate as the cavity modes. By careful selection of the collection optics and averaging ten rapid scans over 15 min in a high-resolution Fourier transform spectrometer, we could exclude possible explanations like beating of mode families, self-pulsation, or external reflections. A naive simulation of the longitudinal modes profiting from their individual "gain profile" along the cavity suggests that we see the signature of quantum-well thickness fluctuations.  相似文献
