Network computing is generally considered to be an unsuccessful initiative. It is strongly associated in the minds of many with the overhyped network computer that failed to capture a significant market share from PCs. However, network computing and network computers are not synonymous. In fact, one of the major benefits of network computing is the ability to tailor applications to the capabilities of heterogeneous client devices. Given the very fast growing mobile computing market, with its numerous and diverse terminal types, network computing could at last realise its full potential. This tutorial paper provides an overview of computing from the early mainframes to today's multiplicity of computing devices. The advantages of network computing are discussed and an overview is provided of some of the underpinning technologies. To provide an insight into the potential of network computing, two applications are described. Some overall conclusions are also given 相似文献

云计算是一种新型的基础服务共享架构方法,是分布式计算的重要发展里程碑,云计算可以看作是网格技术与基于移动环境感知的动态虚拟计算的有机融合。基于方面的云计算架构与SOA相结合,基于该框架来描述和表达移动实体之间以及无线运动智能动态服务之间的交互与协调,描述它们之间的可信的通信活动以及移动实体或服务与所在环境的交互活动。基于云计算的多融合服务组合是构建上下文环境服务组合的有效方法,多融合服务在原有服务提供的同时,云计算环境感知实现异构信息的有机匹配,体现多融合信息的动态特性和多种形式的融合。 相似文献

This paper investigates the problem of distributed-program reliability in various classes of distributed computing systems. This problem is computationally intractable for arbitrary distributed computing systems, even when it is restricted to the class of star distributed computing systems. One solvable case for star distributed computing systems is identified, in which data files are distributed with respective to a consecutive property; a polynomial-time algorithm is developed for this case. A linear-time algorithm is developed to test whether or not an arbitrary star distributed computing system has this consecutive file distribution property. Soft computing (SC) is an emerging collection of methodologies which aims to exploit tolerance for imprecision, uncertainty, and partial truth to achieve robustness, tractability, and low total cost. It differs from conventional hard computing (HC) in the sense that, unlike hard computing, it is strongly based on intuition or subjectivity. Therefore, soft computing provides an attractive opportunity to represent the ambiguity in human thinking with real life uncertainty. Fuzzy logic (FL), neural networks (NN), and genetic algorithms (GA) are the core methodologies of soft computing. However, FL, NN, and GA should not be viewed as competing with each other, but synergistic and complementary instead. Considering the number of available journal and conference papers on various combinations of these three methods, it is easy to conclude that the fusion of individual soft computing methodologies has already been advantageous in numerous applications. On the other hand, hard computing solutions are usually more straightforward to analyze; their behavior and stability are more predictable; and, the computational burden of algorithms is typically either low or moderate. These characteristics. are particularly important in real-time applications. Thus, it is natural to see SC and HC as potentially complementary methodologies. Novel combinations of different methods are needed when developing high-performance, cost-effective, and safe products for the demanding global market. We present an overview of applications in which the fusion of soft computing and hard computing has provided innovative solutions for challenging real-world problems. Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) is emerging as one of the most important branches of cloud computing. In this paper, MCC is defined as cloud computing extended by mobility, and a new ad-hoc infrastructure based on mobile devices. It provides mobile users with data storage and processing services on a cloud computing platform. Because mobile cloud computing is still in its infancy, we aim to clarify confusion that has arisen from different views. Existing works are reviewed, and an overview of recent advances in mobile cloud computing is provided. We investigate representative infrastructures of mobile cloud computing and analyze key components.
