Butyl triphenyl phosphonium bromide (BuTPPB) has been evaluated as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 solutions using galvanostatic polarisation and potentiostatic polarisation measurements. The study was also complemented by infra red (IR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and quantum chemical calculations. Galvanostatic polarisation measurements showed that the presence of BuTPPB in aerated 0.5 M H2SO4 solutions decreases corrosion currents to a great extent and the corrosion rate decreases with increasing inhibitor concentration at a constant temperature. At 298K, inhibition efficiency was found to be 94.5% for 10−7 M BuTPPB which increased to about 99% for the BuTPPB concentration of 10−2 M. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behaviour of mild steel was studied at five different temperatures ranging from 298 to 338K. The polarisation curves clearly indicate that BuTPPB acts as a mixed type inhibitor. Adsorption of BuTPPB on the mild steel surface follows the Langmuir isotherm.Potentiostatic polarisation measurements showed that passivation was observed only for lower BuTPPB concentrations (10−5 and 10−7 mol l−1) for the mild steel in 0.5 M H2SO4. IR and SEM investigations also confirmed the adsorption of BuTPPB on the mild steel surface in 0.5 M H2SO4 solutions. The molecular parameters obtained using PM3 semi-empirical method, were correlated with the experimentally measured inhibitor efficiencies.  相似文献

Quinolin-5-ylmethylene-3-{[8-(trifluoromethyl)quinolin-4-yl]thio}propanohydrazide (QMQTPH) was synthesized, characterized and tested as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in 1 M and 2 M HCl solution using potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Polarization resistances calculated from the EIS measurements were in good agreement with those obtained from direct current (DC) polarization measurements. The mild steel samples were also analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that QMQTPH is an excellent inhibitor for mild steel in acid medium. The inhibition was assumed to occur via adsorption of the inhibitor molecule on the metal surface. It acts as an anodic inhibitor. In the 30° to 60 °C temperature range, the QMQTPH adsorption follows Langmuir isotherm model. The protection efficiency increased with increasing inhibitor concentration in the range 10−5 − 10−3 M, but slightly decreased with increasing temperature.  相似文献

The inhibitor effect of tryptamine on the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid at 30 °C was investigated using linear polarization, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The inhibition efficiency increases with an increase in concentration of tryptamine. At 500 ppm tryptamine the inhibition efficiency calculated by these techniques is around 97%. Cathodic and anodic polarization curves of mild steel in the presence of different concentrations of tryptamine at 30 °C reveal that it is a mixed type inhibitor. Tryptamine follows Langmuir adsorption with adsorption free energy of −35.07 kJ mol−1.  相似文献

Corrosion inhibition of mild steel in hydrochloric acid solution by doxycycline has been studied by weight loss measurements, polarization resistance, Tafel polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. The inhibitor showed more than 95% inhibition efficiency at optimum concentration 9.02 × 10−4 M. Potentiodynamic polarization suggests that it is a mixed type of inhibitor. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to investigate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated to investigate mechanism of inhibition. The compound follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. AFM studies of mild steel surface with and without inhibitor were performed and calculated roughness also supported the inhibition data.  相似文献

The inhibition performance of the 3,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole (4-MAT) on mild steel in normal hydrochloric acid medium (1 M HCl) at 30 °C was tested by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. This organic compound inhibits the acidic corrosion even at very low concentration, reaching a value of inhibition efficiency up to 98% at a concentration of 3 × 10−4 M. The results obtained from the different corrosion evaluation techniques are in good agreement. Polarisation curves indicate that 4-MAT is a mixed inhibitor, affecting both cathodic and anodic corrosion currents. Data, obtained from EIS measurements, were analyzed to model the corrosion inhibition process through appropriate equivalent circuit model, a constant phase element (CPE) has been used. The adsorption of 4-MAT on the steel surface, in 1 M HCl solution, obeys to Langmuir’s isotherm with a very high negative value of the free energy of adsorption ΔG°ads (chemisorption). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was carried out to establish the mechanism of corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M HCl medium in the presence of 3,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole (4-MAT).  相似文献

2,3-diphenylbenzoquinoxaline (2,3DPQ) has been synthesized and its inhibiting action on the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M H2SO4 has been assessed by weight loss method at 30 °C. The results of the investigation show that this compound has excellent inhibiting properties for steel corrosion in sulphuric acid. Inhibition efficiency increases with increase in the concentration of the inhibitor. The adsorption of 2,3DPQ onto the mild steel surface followed the Langmuir adsorption model with the free energy of adsorption of −11.4 kJ mol−1. Quantum chemical calculations were employed to give further insight into the mechanism of inhibition action of 2,3DPQ.  相似文献

The corrosion rates in the presence of 2,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazole (4-MOX) as a steel corrosion inhibitor in 0.5 M sulfuric acid, were measured by the weight loss method, in the range of temperatures from 303 to 343 K. Results obtained revealed that 4-MOX performed excellently as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel in sulfuric acid media and its efficiency attains more than 96.19% at 8 × 10−4 M at 333 K. The inhibition was assumed to occur via adsorption of the oxadiazole molecules on the metal surface. The Langmuir adsorption isotherm was tested for their fit to the experimental data. The apparent activation energies, enthalpies and entropies of the dissolution process and the free energies and enthalpies for the adsorption process were determined and discussed. The fundamental thermodynamic functions were used to glean important information about 4-MOX inhibitory behaviour.  相似文献

Corrosion inhibition of cold rolled steel in 0.5 mol L−1 sulphuric acid by a quaternary ammonium gemini surfactant, l,3-propane-bis(dimethyl dodecylammonium bromide) (designated as 12-3-12), in the absence and presence of chloride ions was investigated at different temperatures. The results revealed significant synergistic effect between gemini 12-3-12 and chloride ions for the corrosion protection of cold rolled steel in sulphuric acid, and that the novel composite inhibitor system containing cationic gemini surfactant and chloride ions was efficient and low-cost for steel corrosion inhibition in sulphuric acid medium, even when concentration of 12-3-12 was as low as 1 × 10−6 mol L−1. By fitting the obtained experimental data with Langmuir adsorption model and Arrhenius equation, some thermodynamic and kinetic parameters such as adsorption free energy, the apparent activation energy, and the pre-exponential factor were estimated. The adsorption mechanism of the gemini surfactant onto steel surface in acid medium in the absence and presence of chloride ions was also discussed, respectively.  相似文献

The inhibition effects of molybdate and tungstate on the corrosion of cold rolling steel (CRS) in hydrochloric acid solution (0.1-0.5 M) were investigated by weight loss and electrochemistry methods. The results reveal that both molybdate and tungstate are very good inhibitors with little concentration. The adsorption of inhibitors on the CRS surface basically obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm equation. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behavior of CRS was also studied at 25 °C and 35 °C, the thermodynamic parameters such as adsorption heat (ΔH0) and adsorption free energy (ΔG0) were calculated. In the same conditions, a comparative study of corrosion inhibition of molybdate and tungstate indicated that molybdate was the better inhibitor in 0.1 M HCl. However, the value of percentage inhibition efficiency (IE) was dependent on the concentration of inhibitors in 0.2-0.5 M HCl. It seemed that molybdate did not have the strong inhibitive effect compared to tungstate with relatively small concentration of inhibitors, but molybdate was a better inhibitor over a wide concentration range of inhibitors. A kinetic study of cold rolling steel in uninhibited and inhibited acid was also discussed. Various parameters such as rate constant k and the kinetic parameter B were calculated for the reactions of corrosion. Polarization curves showed that both molybdate and tungstate are mixed-type inhibitors in acidic media.  相似文献

New diamine derivatives, namely 2-[{2-[bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]ethyl}(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]ethanol (DAME) and 2-[{2-[bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]ethyl}(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]propanol (DAMP) were synthesised and their inhibitive action against the corrosion of mild steel in 1 M HCl solution were investigated at 308 K. The detailed study of DAME is given using gravimetric measurements and polarization curves method. Results show that DAME is a good inhibitor and inhibition efficiency reaches 91.7% at 10−3 M. Tafel polarization study revealed that DAME acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. The inhibitor adsorption process in mild steel/DAME/hydrochloric acid system was studied at different temperatures (308-353 K) by means of weight loss measurements. The adsorption of DAME on steel surface obeyed Langmuir’s adsorption isotherm. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for mild steel corrosion and inhibitor adsorption, respectively, were determined and discussed. The comparative study of inhibitive performance of the two diamine derivatives revealed that DAME is more effective than DAMP. Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) approach has been conducted in attempt to correlate the corrosion inhibition properties of these diamine derivatives with their calculated quantum chemical parameters.  相似文献

The inhibition effect of glycine (Gly) towards the corrosion of low alloy steel ASTM A213 grade T22 boiler steel was studied in aerated stagnant 0.50 M HCl solutions in the temperature range 20-60 °C using potentiodynamic polarization (Tafel polarization and linear polarization) and impedance techniques, complemented with scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray (EDX). Electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM), a non-destructive corrosion measurement technique that can directly give values of corrosion current without prior knowledge of Tafel constants, is also presented here. Experimental corrosion rates determined by the Tafel extrapolation method are compared with corrosion rates obtained by electrochemical, namely EFM technique, and chemical (i.e., non-electrochemical) method for steel in HCl. The chemical method of confirmation of the corrosion rates involved determination of the dissolved cation, using ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry) method of analysis. Corrosion rates (in mm y−1) obtained from the electrochemical (Tafel extrapolation and EFM) and the chemical method, ICP, are in a good agreement. Polarization studies have shown that Gly is a good “green”, mixed-type inhibitor with cathodic predominance. The inhibition process was attributed to the formation of an adsorbed film on the metal surface that protects the metal against corrosive agents. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersion X-ray (EDX) examinations of the electrode surface confirmed the existence of such an adsorbed film. The inhibition efficiency increases with increase in Gly concentration, while it decreases with solution temperature. Temkin isotherm is successfully applied to describe the adsorption process. Thermodynamic functions for the adsorption process were determined.  相似文献

The synergism between red tetrazolium (RT) and uracil (Ur) on the corrosion of cold rolled steel (CRS) in H2SO4 solution is first investigated by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, and atomic force microscope (AFM). Effects of inhibitor concentration (25-500 mg l−1), temperature (20-50 °C), and acid concentration (1.0-5.0 M) on synergism are discussed systematically. The results reveal that RT has a moderate inhibitive effect, and its adsorption obeys the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. For Ur, it has a poor effect. However, incorporation of RT with Ur significantly improves the inhibition performance, and produces synergistic inhibition effect.  相似文献

Inhibitory effect of some new synthesized tripyrazole compounds on corrosion of pure iron in 1 M HCl solution has been studied using weight-loss measurements and various electrochemical techniques polarization and impedance spectroscopy methods. The inhibiting action is more pronounced with N,N,N-tris[(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methyl] amine (P1), and its inhibition efficiency increases with its concentration and attains the maximum value of 94% at the 2.5 × 10−4 M. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behaviour of iron was studied in the range from 298 to 353 K with and without P1 at 2.5 × 10−4 M. We note a good agreement between gravimetric and electrochemical methods potentiodynamic polarization and impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Polarization measurements show also that the compound acts mixed inhibitor. The catholic curves indicate that the reduction of proton at the pure iron surface happens within a pure activating mechanism. EIS measurements show the increase of the transfer resistance with the inhibitor concentration. The presence of the N,N,N-tris[(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)methyl] amine increases the inhibition efficiency and not caused a drastic change in its adsorption mechanism. The adsorption of P1 on the surface of iron in 1 M HCl obeys a Langmuir isotherm adsorption.  相似文献

The inhibition effect of novel nonionic surfactants on the corrosion of carbon steel (CS) in 1 M HCl was studied at different temperatures (20-60 °C) by weight loss, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization methods. The CS surface morphology was investigated by SEM. The obtained results showed that the prepared nonionic surfactants are excellent inhibitor in 1 M HCl, and the inhibition efficiency (η) increases with the inhibitor concentration and temperature increasing. The adsorption of inhibitors on the CS surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm equation. Thermodynamic parameters have been obtained by adsorption theory. Polarization curves show that the synthesized inhibitors are mixed-type inhibitors in hydrochloric acid.  相似文献

The influence of poly(4-vinylpyridine-poly(3-oxide-ethylene) tosyle) P4VPPEO5000Ts, on the corrosion inhibition of iron in molar sulphuric acid solution is studied using weight-loss, polarisation resistance, potentiodynamic and EIS measurements. P4VPPEO5000Ts is an excellent inhibitor and its inhibition efficiency increases with the increase of concentration to attain 100% since 2.5 × 10−8 M. Potentiodynamic polarisation studies clearly reveal that it acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. The polymer studied reduces the corrosion rates. E% values obtained from weight-loss, corrosion current density, polarisation resistance and EIS methods are in good agreement. Adsorption of this compound on iron surface has an S-shaped adsorption isotherm with two consecutive steps.  相似文献

The electrochemical behaviour of Cu-40Zn alloy, in 3% NaCl medium pure and polluted by 2 ppm of S2− ions, has been studied in the absence and presence of the 3-amino-1,2,4 triazole (ATA) as corrosion inhibitor. Electrochemical measurements (polarisation curves and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) showed that sulphides accelerate the alloy corrosion. The studies revealed that ATA inhibits both cathodic and anodic reactions, indicating a mixed type of inhibition. The inhibiting effect was higher in presence of S2− ions than in its absence. Scanning electron microscopy analysis showed that the inhibitor acts by preventing the adsorption of S2− ions, and formation of Cu2S at the alloy surface. The inhibition efficiency reaches 98% at a concentration of 5 × 10−3 M.  相似文献

The influence of 2,4,6-tris (2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (TPTZ) on the corrosion of tin, indium and tin-indium alloys in 0.5 M HCl solution at different temperatures was studied. Potentiodynamic cathodic polarization and extrapolation of cathodic and anodic Tafel lines techniques were used to obtained experimental data. In the case of tin, the percent inhibition efficiency (IE%) increases as both concentration of TPTZ and temperature are increased. The value of activation energy (Ea) is smaller in the presence of TPTZ than that in uninhibited solution, and decreases with increasing the concentration. However, the effect of TPTZ on indium and the investigated alloys exhibited similar behavior; so, the maximum inhibition efficiency is observed at lowest concentration (10−6 M) of TPTZ. Then, the value of inhibition efficiency starts to decrease gradually with increasing TPTZ concentration than that of 10−6 M. But at higher concentration (10−3 M) the corrosion current density (Icorr) is still lower than that in uninhibited solution. SEM photographs support that the higher inhibition efficiency is observed at 10−6 M of TPTZ.The plots of ln K versus 1/T in the presence of the TPTZ in the case of tin, the inhibitor showed linear behavior. The standard enthalpy, Δads., entropy, Δads. and free energy changes of adsorption Δads. were evaluated using Frumkin adsorption isotherm.  相似文献

In this paper, the influence of pH on the corrosion behavior of AISI 1020 carbon steel in simulated cooling water was investigated by using electrochemical and surface analysis methods. The results of polarization showed that the corrosion resistance of carbon steel increased with an increase in pH of the simulated water, and the corrosion control process changed from cathodic polarization to anode polarization control. The scale and corrosion inhibitor 2-phosphonobutane-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid (PBTCA) had a certain anodic corrosion inhibition effect on carbon steel, whereas Zn2+ acted as a cathodic inhibitor for carbon steel in simulated water with pH 7–9. In simulated water containing both PBTCA and Zn2+, a good synergistic corrosion inhibition was found between PBTCA and Zn2+, and their corrosion inhibition effect on carbon steel was the best at pH 8. This was attributed to the formation of Zn(OH)2 precipitate film in the cathode region and the formation of Zn–PBTCA complex film in the anode region at this pH.  相似文献

The influence of the concentration of adenine (AD), as a safe inhibitor, on the corrosion of low carbon steel (LCS) in aerated 4.0 M H2SO4 solutions was studied. The investigations involved weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, impedance and electrochemical frequency modulation (EFM) methods. Variations of open-circuit potential (OCP) as a function of time till steady-state potentials were also studied. Measurements were conducted under the influence of various experimental conditions complemented with ex situ EDX examinations of the electrode surface. By using EFM measurements, corrosion current density was determined without prior knowledge of Tafel slopes. Results obtained revealed that together with iodide ion, AD is an effective corrosion inhibitor for LCS corrosion in H2SO4 solutions. Synergism between iodide ion and AD was proposed. Potentiodynamic polarization studies showed that AD alone and the mixture of AD and iodide ions act as mixed-type inhibitors for the corrosion of LCS in 4.0 M H2SO4 solution. The inhibition mechanism involves the electrostatic adsorption of protonated AD molecules on the LCS surface charged with a negative layer of chemisorbed I ions. An adherent layer of inhibitor is postulated to account for the protective effect. EDX examinations of the electrode surface confirmed the existence of such adherent layer on the electrode surface. The inhibition efficiency increases with increase in the concentration of AD and immersion time. The potential of zero charge (PZC) of the LCS electrode was determined in 4.0 M H2SO4 solutions in the absence and presence of 0.001 M KI, and the mechanism of adsorption was discussed. The results obtained from chemical and electrochemical measurements were in good agreement.  相似文献

A cationic gemini-surfactant, namely 1,4-bis (1-chlorobenzyl-benzimidazolyl)-butane (CBB) was synthesized and its inhibition effect on the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M HCl solution was investigated by weight loss and electrochemical techniques. The results showed that CBB acts as an excellent corrosion inhibitor in 0.5 M HCl by suppressing simultaneously the cathodic and anodic processes via chemical adsorption on the surface of steel, which followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The inhibition efficiency increased with the increase of CBB concentration and temperature. The adsorption mechanism of the compound was discussed in terms of thermodynamic and kinetic parameters deduced from the experimental data.  相似文献
