The corrosion resistance of 1018 carbon steel, 304 and 316 type stainless steels in the LiBr (55 wt.%) + ethylene glycol + H2O mixture at 25, 50 and 80 °C has been studied using electrochemical techniques which included potentiodynamic polarization curves, electrochemical noise and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. Results showed that, at all tested temperature, the three steels exhibited an active-passive behavior. Carbon steel showed the highest corrosion rate, since both the passive and corrosion current density values were between two and four orders of magnitude higher than those found for both stainless steels. Similarly, the most active pitting potential values was for 1018 carbon steel. For 1018 carbon steel, the corrosion process was under a mixed diffusion and charge transfer at 25 °C, whereas at 50 and 80 °C a pure diffusion controlled process could be observed. For 316 type stainless steel, at 25 and 50 °C a species adsorption controlled process was observed, whereas at 80 °C a diffusion controlled mechanism was present. Additionally, at 25 °C, the three steels were more susceptible to uniform type of corrosion, whereas at 50 and 80 °C they were very susceptible to localized type of corrosion.  相似文献

The inhibition performance of the 3,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole (4-MAT) on mild steel in normal hydrochloric acid medium (1 M HCl) at 30 °C was tested by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. This organic compound inhibits the acidic corrosion even at very low concentration, reaching a value of inhibition efficiency up to 98% at a concentration of 3 × 10−4 M. The results obtained from the different corrosion evaluation techniques are in good agreement. Polarisation curves indicate that 4-MAT is a mixed inhibitor, affecting both cathodic and anodic corrosion currents. Data, obtained from EIS measurements, were analyzed to model the corrosion inhibition process through appropriate equivalent circuit model, a constant phase element (CPE) has been used. The adsorption of 4-MAT on the steel surface, in 1 M HCl solution, obeys to Langmuir’s isotherm with a very high negative value of the free energy of adsorption ΔG°ads (chemisorption). X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) was carried out to establish the mechanism of corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M HCl medium in the presence of 3,5-bis(4-methoxyphenyl)-4-amino-1,2,4-triazole (4-MAT).  相似文献

The effect of 1-methyl-3-pyridin-2-yl-thiourea on the corrosion resistance of mild steel in H2SO4 solution was investigated by different techniques. The results show that the inhibition efficiency increases with the increase of inhibitor concentration. This compound affects both the anodic dissolution of steel and the hydrogen evolution reaction in 0.5 M H2SO4. The adsorption of this inhibitor is also found to obey the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. From the adsorption isotherm, value of the ΔGads for the adsorption process was calculated. From the corrosion rate obtained at 25-45 ± 1 °C Ea, ΔHa and possible mechanism have been proposed.  相似文献

The potentiodynamic anodic polarization curve of α-brass (70% Cu-30% Zn) in 1 M LiBr solution showed an initial active region of the alloy dissolution followed by two well defined anodic current peaks then a narrow passivation region before the pitting potential (Epit) is reached. The initial active anodic region exhibited Tafel slope with 90 mV dec−1 attributed to the formation of CuBr2 complexes. The anodic current peaks were attributed to the formation of CuBr and Cu2+ ions, respectively. The change of pH values of LiBr solution did not affect the anodic polarization curves of α-brass. Increasing the solution temperature from 30 to 90 °C changed the corrosion type from pitting to general one. The addition of 10−2 M benzotriazole (BTAH) to 1 M LiBr solution is completely inhibited the pitting corrosion at 30 °C while it did not inhibit the pitting at 90 °C. The inhibition effect was attributed to the adsorption of BTAH molecules on the alloy surface, which obeys Langmuir isotherm. The presence or absence of pitting corrosion was confirmed by using SEM.  相似文献

Corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 2 M HCl and 1 M H2SO4 by extracts of selected plants was investigated using a gasometric technique at temperatures of 30 and 60 °C. The studied plants materials include leaf extracts Occimum viridis (OV), Telferia occidentalis (TO), Azadirachta indica (AI) and Hibiscus sabdariffa (HS) as well as extracts from the seeds of Garcinia kola (GK). The results indicate that all the extracts inhibited the corrosion process in both acid media by virtue of adsorption and inhibition efficiency improved with concentration. Synergistic effects increased the inhibition efficiency in the presence of halide additives. Inhibition mechanisms were deduced from the temperature dependence of the inhibition efficiency as well as from assessment of kinetic and activation parameters that govern the processes. Comparative analysis of the inhibitor adsorption behaviour in 2 M HCl and 1 M H2SO4 as well as the effects of temperature and halide additives suggest that both protonated and molecular species could be responsible for the inhibiting action of the extracts.  相似文献

The corrosion susceptibility of a cobalt-based magnetic alloy as a function of overcoat film thickness at 20 °C and 50% relative humidity is investigated using atomic force microscopy. The overcoat films include ion beam-deposited nitrogenated carbon (IBDN), and sputter-deposited silicon carbide (SiC) and silicon nitride (SiNx). In all cases, corrosion decreases with increasing overcoat film thickness. The critical overcoat film thickness for corrosion inhibition is approximately 25, 25 and 20 Å for IBDN, SiC and SiNx, respectively. However, larger corrosion particles are found for IBDN and SiC with increasing thickness just below the critical thickness for coverage.  相似文献

The inhibition behaviour of 2-undecyl-1-ethylamino-1-methylbenzyl quaternary imidazoline (2UMQI) and KI on mild steel in 1.0 M H2SO4 solutions was investigated at 25 °C using electrochemical methods. The results indicated that 2UMQI inhibited the corrosion of mild steel and the extent of inhibition increased with 2UMQI concentrations. The inhibition action in the presence of 2UMQI is due to physical adsorption of 2UMQI. A mixed-inhibition mechanism is proposed for the inhibitive effects of 2UMQI. Inhibition efficiency of 2UMQI was enhanced by the addition of iodide ions. In the presence of KI, the potentials of unpolarization, Eu was observed and increased with KI concentration.  相似文献

The inhibition effect of Zenthoxylum alatum plant extract on the corrosion of mild steel in 5% and 15% aqueous hydrochloric acid solution has been investigated by weight loss and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The corrosion inhibition efficiency increases on increasing plant extract concentration till 2400 ppm. The effect of temperature on the corrosion behaviour of mild steel in 5% and 15% HCl with addition of plant extract was studied in the temperature range 50-80 °C. Surface analysis (SEM, XPS and FT-IR) was also carried out to establish the corrosion inhibitive property of this plant extract in HCl solution. Plant extract is able to reduce the corrosion of steel more effectively in 5% HCl than in 15% HCl. The adsorption of this plant extract on the mild steel surface obeys the Langmuir adsorption isotherm.  相似文献

To better understand the hot corrosion behaviour of Yb2Zr2O7 ceramic in molten V2O5, hot corrosion experiments were performed in a temperature range of 600-800 °C in air. Different reaction products of ZrV2O7, YbVO4 and m-ZrO2 were identified depending upon the hot corrosion conditions, for example, ZrV2O7 and YbVO4 at 600 °C for 2 h and 8 h; ZrV2O7, m-ZrO2 and YbVO4 at 700 °C for 2 h; m-ZrO2 and YbVO4 either at 800 °C for 2 h or at 700-800 °C for 8 h. The hot corrosion reaction mechanisms were further discussed based on the thermal instability of ZrV2O7 at elevated temperatures.  相似文献

A newly synthesized glycine derivative (termed GlyD), 2-(4-(dimethylamino)benzylamino)acetic acid hydrochloride, was used to inhibit uniform and pitting corrosion processes of Al in 0.50 M KSCN solutions (pH 6.8) at 25 °C. For uniform corrosion inhibition study, Tafel extrapolation, linear polarization resistance and impedance methods were used, complemented with SEM examinations. An independent method of chemical analysis, namely ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry) was also used to test validity of corrosion rate measured by Tafel extrapolation method. GlyD inhibited uniform corrosion, even at low concentrations, reaching a value of inhibition efficiency up to 97% at a concentration of 5 × 10−3 M. Results obtained from the different corrosion evaluation techniques were in good agreement. This new synthesized glycine derivative was also used to control pit nucleation and growth on the pitted Al surface based on cyclic polarization, potentiostatic and galvanostatic measurements. The pitting potential (Epit) and the repassivation potential (Erp) increased by the addition of GlyD. Thus GlyD suppressed pit nucleation and propagation. Nucleation of pit was found to take place after an incubation time (ti). The rate of pit nucleation and growth decreased with increase in inhibitor concentration. Morphology of pitting was also studied as a function of the applied anodic potential and solution temperature. Cross-sectional view of pitted surface revealed the formation of large distorted hemispherical and narrow deep pits. GlyD was much better than Gly in controlling uniform and pitting corrosion processes of Al in these solutions.  相似文献

The inhibition effect of 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) on the corrosion of cold rolled steel (CRS) in 1.0-7.0 M H2SO4 at 25-50 °C was studied by weight loss and potentiodynamic polarization methods. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and atomic force microscope (AFM) were used to characterize the CRS surface. The results showed that BAP was a good inhibitor in 1.0 M H2SO4, and the adsorption of BAP obeyed the Temkin adsorption isotherm. Polarization curves showed that BAP acted as a mixed-type inhibitor in sulfuric acid. Depending on the results, the inhibitive mechanism was proposed.  相似文献

Corrosion inhibition of mild steel in molar perchloric acid by 3,5-bis(n-pyridyl)-4-amino-1,2,4-triazoles (n-PAT, n = 2, 3 and 4) was studied at 30 °C using gravimetric and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques. Protection efficiencies of 95% and 92% were obtained with 12 × 10−4 M of 3-PAT and 4-PAT, respectively; while 2-PAT reached only 65%. The inhibiting properties of n-PAT were found to depend on the concentration and the order of increasing inhibition efficiency was correlated with the modification of the position of the nitrogen atom in the pyridinium substituent. It was shown that adsorption of 4-aminotriazole derivatives on the steel surface is consistent with the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and the obtained standard free energy of adsorption () values indicate that the corrosion inhibition of the mild steel in 1 M HClO4 is depends on both physic-and chemisorption. A significant correlation is obtained between inhibition efficiency and quantum chemical parameters using semi-empirical quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) approach.  相似文献

The cycloaddition reactions of the cyclic nitrones 1-pyrroline 1-oxide and 3,4,5,6-tetrahydropyridine 1-oxide with alkenes, 11-phenoxy-1-undecene and 11-p-methoxyphenoxy-1-undecene, afforded cycloaddition products (bicyclic isoxazolidines) in excellent yields. One of the cycloadducts on reaction with propargyl chloride and ring opening with zinc in acetic acid afforded quaternary ammonium salt and aminoalcohol, respectively. All the new inhibitor molecules in the presence of 400 ppm at 60 °C achieved inhibition efficiencies, determined by gravimetric method, in the range 99-99.6% and 85-99% for mild steel in 1 M HCl and 0.5 M H2SO4, respectively. Comparable results were obtained by the electrochemical methods using Tafel plots and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy for the synthesized compounds. The isoxazolidine derivatives were also found to be good inhibitors of mold steel corrosion in synthetic brine. Negative values of in the acidic media ensured the spontaneity of the adsorption process. While the corrosion inhibition by these molecules was predominantly under cathodic control in 1 M HCl, the inhibition in 0.5 M H2SO4 was found to be under anodic control. The isoxazolidines and their derivatives were found to be among a rare class of molecules, which provide suitable inhibition mechanism for the corrosion inhibition in HCl as well as in H2SO4 media.  相似文献

The synergism between red tetrazolium (RT) and uracil (Ur) on the corrosion of cold rolled steel (CRS) in H2SO4 solution is first investigated by weight loss, potentiodynamic polarization, and atomic force microscope (AFM). Effects of inhibitor concentration (25-500 mg l−1), temperature (20-50 °C), and acid concentration (1.0-5.0 M) on synergism are discussed systematically. The results reveal that RT has a moderate inhibitive effect, and its adsorption obeys the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. For Ur, it has a poor effect. However, incorporation of RT with Ur significantly improves the inhibition performance, and produces synergistic inhibition effect.  相似文献

The inhibitor effect of tryptamine on the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid at 30 °C was investigated using linear polarization, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The inhibition efficiency increases with an increase in concentration of tryptamine. At 500 ppm tryptamine the inhibition efficiency calculated by these techniques is around 97%. Cathodic and anodic polarization curves of mild steel in the presence of different concentrations of tryptamine at 30 °C reveal that it is a mixed type inhibitor. Tryptamine follows Langmuir adsorption with adsorption free energy of −35.07 kJ mol−1.  相似文献

The influence of 2,4,6-tris (2-pyridyl)-1,3,5-triazine (TPTZ) on the corrosion of tin, indium and tin-indium alloys in 0.5 M HCl solution at different temperatures was studied. Potentiodynamic cathodic polarization and extrapolation of cathodic and anodic Tafel lines techniques were used to obtained experimental data. In the case of tin, the percent inhibition efficiency (IE%) increases as both concentration of TPTZ and temperature are increased. The value of activation energy (Ea) is smaller in the presence of TPTZ than that in uninhibited solution, and decreases with increasing the concentration. However, the effect of TPTZ on indium and the investigated alloys exhibited similar behavior; so, the maximum inhibition efficiency is observed at lowest concentration (10−6 M) of TPTZ. Then, the value of inhibition efficiency starts to decrease gradually with increasing TPTZ concentration than that of 10−6 M. But at higher concentration (10−3 M) the corrosion current density (Icorr) is still lower than that in uninhibited solution. SEM photographs support that the higher inhibition efficiency is observed at 10−6 M of TPTZ.The plots of ln K versus 1/T in the presence of the TPTZ in the case of tin, the inhibitor showed linear behavior. The standard enthalpy, Δads., entropy, Δads. and free energy changes of adsorption Δads. were evaluated using Frumkin adsorption isotherm.  相似文献

This study examines the effect of ytrria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) dispersion on hot corrosion behaviour of NiCrAlY bond coat. Hot corrosion studies were conducted on NiCrAlY and NiCrAlY containing 25, 50 and 75 wt.% YSZ coatings obtained through the air plasma spray technique, in Na2SO4 + 10 wt.% NaCl environment at 800 °C. The results show that YSZ dispersion lowers the overall hot corrosion tendency of the NiCrAlY, though it enhances the inherent hot corrosion tendency of its metallic constituent (NiCrAlY). Furthermore, there exists a threshold oxide level beyond which it adversely affects the hot corrosion of the coating.  相似文献

The electrochemical behaviour of Ni-base alloys (Inconel 625, Inconel 718, G3 and Incoloy 825) is carried out at 80 °C in CO2/H2S corrosion environments using cyclic potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The passivity mechanisms are analysed and discussed. In addition, some significant characterisation parameters such as Ecorr, Ipass, Epit, Epp, ΔE and Ipass in cyclic polarisation curves are analysed and compared to reveal the corrosion resistance of various Ni-base alloys. The equivalent circuit model and ZsimpWin software are utilised to discuss the Nyquist plots of various Ni-base alloys. The diffusion mechanism in EIS measurement is discussed. The result shows that the corrosion resistance of the Ni-base alloys to CO2 corrosion or CO2/H2S corrosion follows the sequence: Inconel 625 > G3 > Inconel 718 > Incoloy 825. H2S works as a cathodic depolariser with accelerating initiation of the corrosion process.  相似文献

Corrosion inhibition of iron in H2SO4 by polyacrylic acid (PAA) was investigated using electrochemical techniques at 30 °C. Results obtained indicate that PAA inhibited the corrosion of iron in the acid medium. Inhibition efficiency increases with increase in PAA concentration and synergistically enhanced on addition of iodide ions. Potentiodynamic polarization results suggest that PAA functions as a modest cathodic inhibitor. The adsorption of PAA onto the iron surface followed Temkin adsorption isotherm. FTIR analysis revealed that the synergistic effect due to co-adsorption of iodide ions and PAA is co-operative in nature.  相似文献

The work addresses the influence of Mn and Mo additions on corrosion resistance of AISI 304 and 316 stainless steels in 30 wt.% H2SO4 at 25 and 50 °C. Corrosion mechanism was determined by gravimetric tests, DC polarization measurements and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The morphology and nature of the reaction products formed on the material surface were analysed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive spectroscopy (EDX) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Reduction of temperature from 50 to 25 °C drastically decreased the corrosion rate of AISI 304 and 316 stainless steels in sulphuric acid solution. Mn additions did not affect significantly the general corrosion resistance due to its low ability to form insoluble compounds in acid medium. Meanwhile, the formation of molybdenum insoluble oxides enhanced the corrosion performance.  相似文献
