The inhibitor effect of tryptamine on the corrosion of mild steel in 0.5 M hydrochloric acid at 30 °C was investigated using linear polarization, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The inhibition efficiency increases with an increase in concentration of tryptamine. At 500 ppm tryptamine the inhibition efficiency calculated by these techniques is around 97%. Cathodic and anodic polarization curves of mild steel in the presence of different concentrations of tryptamine at 30 °C reveal that it is a mixed type inhibitor. Tryptamine follows Langmuir adsorption with adsorption free energy of −35.07 kJ mol−1.  相似文献

Potentiodynamic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), weight loss measurements and atomic force microscopy techniques were used to investigate the inhibitory effect of diethylcarbamazine (DECM) on corrosion of mild steel in HCl solution. The inhibitor showed >90% inhibition efficiency at 5.01 × 10−4 M. Results obtained revealed that inhibition occurs through adsorption of inhibitor molecules on metal surface without modifying the mechanism of corrosion process. Potentiodynamic polarization studies suggested that it is a mixed type inhibitor, predominantly controls cathodic reaction. Activation parameters (Ea, ΔH and ΔS) and thermodynamic parameters (, and ) were calculated to investigate mechanism of inhibition.  相似文献

Five azoles were investigated as corrosion inhibitors of mild steel in 1 M HCl using gravimetric and polarisation techniques. The chosen azoles have similar chemical structure - their molecules have similar geometry and in an adsorption state almost the same area. The inhibiting properties were found to depend on both the concentration and the molecular structure of the compounds. The adsorption of benzimidazole and 1,3-benzothiazole is described by the Frumkin isotherm, while in the case of 1H-benzotiazole and indole the Langmuir isotherm can be applied. An attempt was made to correlate the inhibitive properties with the electronic structure of the molecules and it was found that the inhibitor properties are connected with the presence of aromatic structure which includes the heterocycle and depend on the number of the lone electron pairs. The HOMO and LUMO energies were calculated and it was found that their values can explain only some features of the observed phenomena.  相似文献

The inhibiting properties of four azoles (indole, benzimidazole, benzotriazole, benzothiazole) were investigated in case of mild steel corrosion in 1 M HCl. The effect of temperature was followed. Impedance spectroscopy, polarization resistance, gravimetric and polarization curves methods were applied. An adequate structural model of the interface in inhibitors presence is offered and the values of the corresponding parameters are calculated. The apparent activation energy of the process taking place in an inhibitor presence was determined on the ground of five temperature values in the range from 20 °C to 60 °C using the data obtained by two independent methods. Comparative investigations were carried out in 1 M H2SO4 aiming to elucidate the effect of the acid’s anion. The generalization of the data obtained provided to make conclusions concerning the mechanism of the inhibitors’ adsorption.  相似文献

The corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 1 M HCl solution by cefotaxime sodium has been studied by Tafel polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and weight loss measurement. The inhibitor showed 95.8% inhibition efficiency at optimum concentration 300 ppm. Results obtained revealed that inhibition occurs through adsorption of the cefotaxime on metal surface without modifying the mechanism of corrosion process. Potentiodynamic polarization studies suggest that it is a mixed type of inhibitor. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy techniques were also used to investigate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition.  相似文献

Ammonium salts of O,O′-dialkyldithiophosphoric acids (RО)2 Р(S) S HN+, were synthesized and tested as inhibitors for carbon dioxide corrosion of mild steel using weight loss, polarization curves, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy methods. High inhibition efficiency has been found for all compounds (η = 70–99%) at very low concentrations (0.25–5) mg l−1. Polarization curves show that the title compounds can be considered as inhibitors of the mixed type. The absorption of inhibitor molecules on the mild steel surface obeys the Langmuir isotherm. Inhibition efficiency for some ammonium salts increases with temperature. The activation energy and some thermodynamic parameters were computed.  相似文献

Study of the efficacy of some lactones to counter iron corrosion in 1 M hydrochloric acid using ab initio quantum chemical deductions and its comparison with the available experimental data forms a part of this research. It is believed that the inhibition efficiency has lucid correlation with the charge of oxygen atoms of inhibitor molecules. Furthermore, thermo-chemical calculations for oxepan-2-one (L3) on iron cluster result in adsorption energies close to experimental values. However, the interaction energies of L3 and iron cluster with the natural bond orbital are also reported. The inhibitive effect of a newly synthesized imidazoline phosphate inhibitor against Q235 steel and its adsorption behavior were investigated in 1 M HCl solution using weight-loss method, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) techniques. The results showed that the inhibition efficiency increased with the increase of the inhibitor concentration. The imidazoline phosphate is a mixed-type inhibitor whose adsorption behavior onto Q235 steel can be well fitted by Langmuir isotherm equation. The quantum chemistry calculation exhibited that the imidazoline ring and heteroatoms of N, O, and P were the active sites of the inhibitors.  相似文献

The inhibitor showed more than 95% inhibition efficiency at optimum concentration 9.02 × 10−4 M. Potentiodynamic polarization suggests that it is a mixed type of inhibitor. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used to investigate the mechanism of corrosion inhibition. Thermodynamic parameters were calculated to investigate mechanism of inhibition. Chemical methods were used to assess the inhibitive and adsorption behaviour of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) for mild steel in H2SO4 solution at 30-60 °C. Results obtained show that CMC act as inhibitor for mild steel in H2SO4. The inhibition efficiency was found to increase with increase in CMC concentration but decreased with rise in temperature, which is suggestive of physical adsorption mechanism. The adsorption of the CMC onto the mild steel surface was found to follow Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushkevich adsorption isotherm models. The inhibition mechanism was further corroborated by the values of activation parameters obtained from the experimental data.  相似文献

The inhibition effect of four double Schiff bases on the corrosion of mild steel in 2 M HCl has been studied by polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and weight loss measurements. The inhibitors were adsorbed on the steel surface according to the Langmuir adsorption isotherm model. From the adsorption isotherm, some thermodynamic data for the adsorption process were calculated and discussed. Kinetic parameters activation such as Ea, ΔH∗, ΔS∗ were evaluated from the effect of temperature on corrosion and inhibition processes. Three compounds of N-alkyl-sodium phthalamates were synthesized and tested as corrosion inhibitors for carbon steel in 0.5 M aqueous hydrochloric acid. Tests showed that inhibitor efficiencies were related to aliphatic chain length and dependent on concentration. N-1-n-tetradecyl-sodium phthalamate displayed moderate efficiency against uniform corrosion, 42–86% at 25 °C and 25–60% at 40 °C. Tests indicated that compounds behave as mixed type inhibitors where molecular adsorption on steel followed Langmuir isotherm, whereas thermodynamic suggested that a physisorption process occurred. XPS analysis confirmed film formation on surface, where Fe+2 complexes and Fe+2 chelates with phthalamates prevented steel from further corrosion.  相似文献

Three synthesized organic compounds were tested as corrosion inhibitors for mild steel in sulfuric acid medium by potentiostatic polarization, FTIR spectroscopy and SEM techniques. Quantum chemical parameters were also calculated to characterize adsorption mechanism. Acceptable correlations were obtained between inhibition efficiency and the calculated quantum chemical parameters. It was found that the investigated compounds exhibit a good inhibition effect especially at 8-10 ppm range concentration, which makes them commercially important. The adsorption of inhibitors on the surface obeys Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The values of activation energy and the thermodynamic parameters, such as Kads, , and were calculated.  相似文献

Corrosion inhibition of mild steel in 2 M HCl and 1 M H2SO4 by extracts of selected plants was investigated using a gasometric technique at temperatures of 30 and 60 °C. The studied plants materials include leaf extracts Occimum viridis (OV), Telferia occidentalis (TO), Azadirachta indica (AI) and Hibiscus sabdariffa (HS) as well as extracts from the seeds of Garcinia kola (GK). The results indicate that all the extracts inhibited the corrosion process in both acid media by virtue of adsorption and inhibition efficiency improved with concentration. Synergistic effects increased the inhibition efficiency in the presence of halide additives. Inhibition mechanisms were deduced from the temperature dependence of the inhibition efficiency as well as from assessment of kinetic and activation parameters that govern the processes. Comparative analysis of the inhibitor adsorption behaviour in 2 M HCl and 1 M H2SO4 as well as the effects of temperature and halide additives suggest that both protonated and molecular species could be responsible for the inhibiting action of the extracts.  相似文献

Inhibitory effect of three Schiff bases 2-{[(2-sulfanylphenyl)imino]methyl}]phenol (A), 2-{[(2)-1-(4-methylphenyl)methylidene]amino}-1-benznethiol (B), and 2-[(2-sulfanylphen-yl)ethanimidoyl)]phenol (C) on corrosion of mild steel in 15% HCl solution has been studied using weight loss measurements, polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) methods. The results of the investigation show that the compounds A and B with mean efficiency of 99% at 200 mg/L additive concentration have fairly good inhibiting properties for mild steel corrosion in hydrochloric acid, and they are as mixed inhibitor. All measurements show that inhibition efficiencies increase with increase in inhibitor concentration. This reveals that inhibitive actions of inhibitors were mainly due to adsorption on mild steel surface. Adsorption of these inhibitors follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Thermodynamic adsorption parameters (Kads, ΔGads) of studied Schiff bases were calculated using the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. Activation parameters of the corrosion process such as activation energies, Ea, activation enthalpies, ΔH, and activation entropies, ΔS, were calculated by the obtained corrosion currents at different temperatures. Obvious correlation was found between the corrosion inhibition efficiency and the calculated parameters. The obtained theoretical results have been adapted with the experimental data.  相似文献

The effects of phthalazone (PTO) and its synergistic effect with KI on the corrosion of mild steel in 1.0 M HCl solution were studied using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and potentiodynamic polarization measurements. The inhibition efficiency increases with the concentration of the inhibitor and increased further with the presence of 6.02 mM KI. The synergistic effect of 6.02 mM KI at different concentrations of PTO was determined by calculating the synergism parameters, which showed that a cooperative mechanism exists between the iodide anion and PTO cations.  相似文献

In the present work, the effect of some newly synthesized Schiff bases containing sulphur nitrogen as heteroatom was investigated on mild steel corrosion in acidic media. Electrochemical studies of the mild steel samples were performed in an aerated solution of 0.1 M HCl + dimethyl sulphoxide (DMS) as co-solvent. DMS is also behaving as a corrosion inhibitor for mild steel. At low inhibitor concentration and short immersion time one can see only the inhibitive effect of DMS as anodic inhibitor for mild steel. At high concentration and long immersion time inhibition efficiencies are increased and cathodic inhibition is observed.  相似文献

The corrosion protection of mild steel in a 2.5 M H2SO4 solution by 4,4-dimethyloxazolidine-2-thione (DMT) was studied at different temperatures by measuring changes in open circuit potential (OCP), potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Corrosion current densities calculated from EIS data were comparable to those obtained from polarisation measurements. Results showed that DMT inhibited mild steel corrosion in a 2.5 M H2SO4 solution and indicated that the inhibition efficiencies increased with the concentration of inhibitor, but decreased proportionally with temperature. Polarisation curves showed that DMT is a mixed-type inhibitor. Changes in impedance parameters suggested the adsorption of DMT on the mild steel surface, leading to the formation of protective films. The DMT adsorption on the mild steel surface followed the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for dissolution and adsorption were investigated. Comprehensive adsorption (physisorption and chemisorption) of the inhibitor molecules on the mild steel surface was suggested based on the thermodynamic adsorption parameters.  相似文献

New diamine derivatives, namely 2-[{2-[bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]ethyl}(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]ethanol (DAME) and 2-[{2-[bis-(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]ethyl}(2-hydroxyethyl)amino]propanol (DAMP) were synthesised and their inhibitive action against the corrosion of mild steel in 1 M HCl solution were investigated at 308 K. The detailed study of DAME is given using gravimetric measurements and polarization curves method. Results show that DAME is a good inhibitor and inhibition efficiency reaches 91.7% at 10−3 M. Tafel polarization study revealed that DAME acts as a mixed-type inhibitor. The inhibitor adsorption process in mild steel/DAME/hydrochloric acid system was studied at different temperatures (308-353 K) by means of weight loss measurements. The adsorption of DAME on steel surface obeyed Langmuir’s adsorption isotherm. The kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for mild steel corrosion and inhibitor adsorption, respectively, were determined and discussed. The comparative study of inhibitive performance of the two diamine derivatives revealed that DAME is more effective than DAMP. Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) approach has been conducted in attempt to correlate the corrosion inhibition properties of these diamine derivatives with their calculated quantum chemical parameters.  相似文献
