The effect of diet on pancreatic exocrine function, measured by faecal chymotrypsin activity (FCA), was studied longitudinally in three groups of small for gestational age (SGA) infants in the first six months of life. The three groups comprised breastfed infants (group B), those randomly allocated to receive a standard infant formula (group S), or the same formula supplemented with nucleotides (group N). The three groups did not differ in their birthweight or gestational age. Nucleotide supplementation of infant formula improves catchup growth in SGA infants but whether this is due to effects on the gastrointestinal mucosa or the exocrine pancreas is not known. There were no differences in FCA at study entry but by one month group B had significantly lower values than the other groups, and this was maintained at 2, 4, and 6 months. Groups N and S did not differ significantly at any time point. Nucleotide supplementation of infant formula does not influence pancreatic exocrine function and its effect on growth is unlikely, therefore, to be mediated through the pancreas. This study shows that breast feeding is associated with lower FCA which may be related to the lower protein content of human milk. Reliable interpretation of FCA in young infants requires information about their diet.  相似文献

Oral administration of foreign proteins, e.g. cow's milk (CM) proteins, stimulates the immune system and induces humoral and cellular immune response against these antigens in infants. Up-regulation of adhesion molecules is known to be associated with activation of the immune system. The purpose of the study was to examine whether orally administered CM proteins induce elevation in soluble adhesion molecules, i.e. intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and L-selectin, in infants. In a double-blind trial, 10 infants received CM-based formula and 10 infants casein hydrolysate formula until the age of 9 mo. The infants of mothers with insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) were recruited into a pilot study of a trial for primary prevention of IDDM by elimination of CM proteins from the diet during early infancy. A cord blood sample and peripheral blood samples were taken at the ages of 3, 6, 9, and 12 mo of age. The levels of soluble ICAM-1 and L-selectin were measured by ELISA. The levels of soluble ICAM-1 were higher at the ages of 3, 6, 9, and 12 mo in infants who received CM-based formula than in infants who received hydrolyzed formula (p = 0.05). Instead, no difference was found in the the levels of soluble L-selectin. The levels of soluble ICAM-1 and L-selectin were higher in all infants when compared with the levels reported in adults or to the levels seen in cord blood. Orally fed CM proteins induce an elevation in soluble ICAM-1 in infants. This may reflect the generation of an immune response against these proteins, because ICAM-1 has an important costimulatory role in lymphocyte activation.  相似文献

The objective of this prospective, cohort study was to compare the nutritional status of full-term infants who were fed human milk (BF, n = 29), formula (FF, n = 30) or evaporated milk formulae (EM, n = 30) for at least 3 months. Infants were seen at enrollment, 3 and 6 months, at which times a blood sample, diet record and anthropometric data were collected. Infants in the EM group received solids earlier (12 +/- 5 weeks) than did FF infants (15 +/- 4 weeks), and both were earlier than BF infants (19 +/- 4 weeks). Only 26% of the EM fed group received iron supplements as ferrous sulphate drops. Seven BF, 12 FF and 20 EM had abnormal ferritin values (< 10 ng ml-1) at 6 months. Copper intake was lower in the EM infants at 3 and 6 months. However, plasma copper and erythrocyte copper zinc superoxide dismutase (ZnCuSOD) levels did not differ between groups. Selenium intake was lower in the EM group (5 +/- 1 and 10 +/- 5 micrograms d-1; 3 and 6 months) than in the FF infants (13 +/- 4 and 19 +/- 7 micrograms d-1; 3 and 6 months). Erythrocyte SeGHSPx levels in EM infants were lower at 6 months (EM, 33.2 +/- 3.4; FF. 35.2 +/- 3.9: BF, 36.1 +/- 3.8 mU mg Hb-1). Thiamin intake (0.99 +/- 0.08 and 1.24 +/- 0.32; 3 and 6 months, mg 1000 kcal-1) was higher in the FF group than in EM infants (0.38 +/- 0.39 and 0.66 +/- 0.38; 3 and 6 months). There were more (13%) abnormal thiamin assays in the EM group at 6 months than in the BF and FF infants (0%). In conclusion, infants fed evaporated milk formula receive adequate copper but may not receive enough thiamin or selenium. Unless supplemented from birth with medicinal iron, intakes of iron will be inadequate.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Ischemic disorders of the retina and optic nerve head, which constitute a common cause of visual loss, are usually seen in patients with atherosclerosis. OBJECTIVE: To test the hypothesis that serotonin, which is released when platelets aggregate, may produce vasospasm in atherosclerotic monkeys and, thus, may contribute to the ischemic disorders and that short-term dietary treatment of atherosclerosis causes the propensity to vasospasm to subside. METHODS: We studied the response of retinal and posterior ciliary circulation to serotonin in 18 atherosclerotic (25 eyes) and 5 normal (8 eyes) cynomolgus monkeys. The eyes were evaluated by color fundus photography and fluorescein fundus angiography. The eyes were examined under basal conditions and, at a different time, during the intravenous infusion of serotonin. In 6 of the 18 atherosclerotic animals, the evaluation was repeated 5 to 12 months after discontinuing the atherogenic diet (ie, the regression group). RESULTS: Serotonin had no effect in normal monkeys. In 18 atherosclerotic monkeys, serotonin produced transient occlusion or delayed filling of the central retinal artery and/or posterior ciliary artery (PCA) in 9 eyes of 9 animals, involving the central retinal artery in 5, lateral PCA in 8, and medial PCA in 5, in various combinations. In 6 animals (6 eyes) of the regression group, the vasoconstrictor effect of serotonin was abolished completely, except in the medial PCA in 1 eye. CONCLUSIONS: Serotonin, in the presence of atherosclerotic lesions, can cause transient, complete occlusion or impaired blood flow in the central retinal artery and/or PCA. We speculate that this mechanism may play a role in the development of ischemic disorders of the retina and optic nerve head. Discontinuing the atherogenic diet abolished or markedly improved the serotonin-induced vasoconstriction within a few months.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) are important for normal visual and brain development. Although present in human milk, LCPUFA have until recently been absent from artificial formulas, and infants may have limited ability to synthesise LCPUFA. To determine the clinical significance of this relative deficiency of LCPUFA, we undertook a randomised trial of the relation between LCPUFA supplementation and infant cognitive behaviour. METHODS: 44 term infants had been randomised to a formula supplemented with LCPUFA (21) or not supplemented with LCPUFA (23), which they had taken from birth to age 4 months. Infant cognitive behaviour was assessed at 10 months of age by a means-end problem-solving test--the intentional execution of a sequence of steps to achieve a goal. The problem required three intermediate steps to achieve the final goal, uncovering and retrieving a hidden toy. FINDINGS: Infants who received LCPUFA-supplemented formula had significantly more intentional solutions than infants who received the no-LCPUFA formula (median 2.0 vs 0, p=0.021). Intention scores (median 14.0 vs 11.5 [maximum 18]) were also increased in this group (p=0.035). INTERPRETATION: These findings suggest that term infants may benefit from LCPUFA supplementation, and that the effects persist beyond the period of supplementation. Since higher problem-solving scores in infancy are related to higher childhood IQ scores, supplementation with LCPUFA may be important for the development of childhood intelligence.  相似文献

We studied the preventive effect against allergies in infants who and whose mothers consumed hypoallergenic formulas until 6 months after birth. Mother and infant pairs were divided into three groups, and the infants were monitored for the development of allergies for the first 2 years. In the MD group (n = 102; n = number of infants), the mothers were given a hypoallergenic formula for mothers (MOM HA), which contained hydrolyzed whey protein as the only protein source, as a substitution for cow's milk during late pregnancy and lactation. In the CD group (n = 127), the mothers were given cow's milk during the corresponding period. All infants in the MD and CD groups were exclusively breast-fed or mixed-fed with breast milk and hypoallergenic infant formula (NAN HA), which contains the same hydrolyzed protein as MOM HA. In the AF group (n = 54), the mothers consumed MOM HA and their infants were mixed-fed with breast milk and a cow's milk-based adopted infant formula during the corresponding period. In the MD group, no infants were positive to cow's milk-specific immunoglobulin E (RAST) at 4 months of age, in contrast to 6% and 3% of infants in the CD and AF groups, respectively. The infants in the MD group showed low incidence of various allergies, especially of eczema, as compared to the CD and AF groups. These results suggest that consumption of cow's milk by mothers and cow's milk-based formula feeding to infants elevate the risk of allergies in infants, and that consumption of hypoallergenic formula for pregnant and lactating women and for infants could be helpful in preventing allergy development in infants.  相似文献

Several studies have demonstrated that dietary and environmental manipulations in the first months of life have a protective effect on the development of allergic diseases in babies "at risk" of atopy. We have prospectively followed up 174 "high risk" infants who underwent dietary and environmental manipulations, such as exclusive breast-feeding for the first 6 months of life, supplemented if necessary with soy-protein formula (Isomil, Abbott), delayed weaning beyond the 6th month of life, and rigorous environmental manipulations for the elimination of house-dust mite and passive smoking. The low prevalence of atopic disease (10%) and the trivial course of the allergic manifestations in this "at risk" population confirm the effectiveness of this preventive program. Moreover, this study demonstrates that the incidence of atopic dermatitis peaks at 6 months, and decreases until it disappears. Food allergy appears only at 6 months and may disappear later. The incidence of asthma peaks at 6 and 36 months and decreases at low levels in the intervals. Allergic rhinitis develops not sooner than 36 months.  相似文献

Twenty-six rhesus monkeys were tested repeatedly at 4, 8, and 12 months of age to characterize the expression and development of their defensive responses induced by separation from their mothers and exposure to a potential threat. Results demonstrated that by 4 months of age infant monkeys engaged in adult-like context-dependent responses and adaptively regulated these responses in relation to the changing context. When separated from their mothers and alone, infants at 4 months of age were active and emitted frequent coo vocalizations. However, when exposed to the profile of a human face, infants responded by becoming behaviorally inhibited and freezing. At 8 months of age, a dramatic reduction in infants' separation-induced coos was observed, whereas their duration of threat-induced freezing remained unchanged. At 12 months of age, a further decrease in cooing occurred, while freezing duration was maintained. No sex differences were found in the expression of these behaviors or their developmental patterns. Individual differences in separation-induced cooing and threat-induced freezing were apparent and remained stable over the three ages studied. However, within animals no relation was found between individual differences in cooing and freezing. These data demonstrate important differences in the developmental patterns for the expression of cooing and freezing over the first year of life. Marked individual differences in separation-induced cooing and threat-induced freezing were apparent and remained stable from 4-12 months of age. The data support the hypothesis that these different defensive responses reflect different adaptive responses that likely have different underlying mechanisms. The similarities between these defensive responses in rhesus monkeys and humans suggests that understanding the factors that promote the development of individual differences in monkeys will illuminate important factors that promote individual differences in humans.  相似文献

We investigated whether or not a regular formula for full-term infants supplemented with cholesterol (cholesterol-fortified) would increase the plasma cholesterol concentration and alter the red blood cell (RBC) membrane lipid composition in healthy full-term infants compared with their breast-fed counterparts. At 1 mo of age, total plasma cholesterol and low-density-lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol were significantly higher in the breast-fed infants than in the cholesterol-unfortified, formula-fed infants. At 3 mo of age, total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol were significantly higher in the breast-fed infants than in the two formula-fed infant groups. These significant differences had disappeared by 6 mo of age. Although the cholesterol-unfortified, formula-fed infants had lower proportions of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n-3) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, 20:5n-3) in the RBC membranes compared with the breast-fed group at 6 mo, DHA and EPA concentrations in the cholesterol-fortified, formula-fed infants were not significantly different. The results of the present study suggest that the plasma cholesterol concentration and fatty acid pattern of the RBC membranes in infants fed a cholesterol-fortified formula may be much closer to those in breast-fed infants than in infants fed a cholesterol-unfortified formula.  相似文献

Zinc and phytate intakes of 183 rural Gambian infants were obtained from weighed records of breastmilk and food intake and measured contents in foods. Total zinc intake of 2.7 mg/d in the first month of age declined to 1.5 mg/d at 3 months, then increased to 4.3 mg/d by 17 months. Breastmilk was an important source of zinc, but the predominant cereal and groundnut-based foods had high [phytate]/[Zn] molar ratios ranging from 13 to 28, indicating potential impaired zinc bioavailability. The [phytate]/[Zn] molar ratio for the diet as a whole was low in early infancy, but increased to 13 in the second year. In contrast, this ratio was less than 6 for the diet of 48 Cambridge breastfed infants up to 18 months. A further disadvantage to the Gambian infants was indicated by their lower intake of protein of animal origin. However, calcium intake was estimated in both communities to be below the level which could give rise to zinc chelation in association with phytate. Compared to 'basal' and 'normative' requirements, total zinc intake of the Gambian infants showed the greatest shortfall between 3 and 12 months, making this the age band for maximum probable benefit from focused intervention programmes.  相似文献

Moderate elevation of plasma homocyst(e)ine is associated with increased risk for atherosclerotic vascular disease. In a previous study, we observed impaired vascular function in nonatherosclerotic monkeys with moderate hyperhomocyst(e)inemia. In this study, we tested the hypothesis that dietary intervention to lower plasma homocyst(e)ine corrects vascular dysfunction in atherosclerotic monkeys. Cynomolgus monkeys were fed an atherogenic diet that produces both hypercholesterolemia and moderate hyperhomocyst(e)inemia. After 17 months, the atherogenic diet was supplemented with B vitamins (5 mg folic acid, 400 micrograms vitamin B-12, and 20 mg vitamin B-6 daily) for 6 months. Total plasma homocyst(e)ine decreased from 12.8 +/- 2.8 to 3.5 +/- 0.3 mumol/L (n = 9; mean +/- SE; P < .01) after vitamins were added to the diet, but plasma cholesterol remained elevated (522 +/- 63 versus 514 +/- 41 mg/dL; P > .05). In response to intra-arterial infusion of collagen, blood flow to the leg decreased by 30 +/- 3% and 38 +/- 5%, respectively, before and after vitamin supplementation (P > .05). In vivo responses of resistance vessels to endothelium-dependent vasodilators (acetylcholine or ADP) were impaired at baseline and did not improve after vitamin supplementation. In carotid artery studied ex vivo, relaxation to low doses of acetylcholine improved after vitamin supplementation, but maximal relaxation remained impaired. Ex vivo thrombomodulin anticoagulant activity was threefold higher in monkeys fed the atherogenic diet (with or without B vitamins) than in normal monkeys (P < .05). We conclude that normalization of plasma homocyst(e)ine is insufficient to restore normal vascular function in atherosclerotic monkeys with persistent hypercholesterolemia and that atherosclerosis, with or without hyperhomocyst(e)inemia, is associated with elevated thrombomodulin activity.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To compare developmental markers and dietary intake of infants born to lower socioeconomic adolescent and adult mothers. DESIGN: Sixty-one adolescent (age 14-18 years) and 60 adult (age 22-28 years) mothers met inclusion criteria of comparable socioeconomic status, age range, urban/rural residence, and distribution of infants by gender. SAMPLE/SETTING: Adolescent subjects were recruited in last trimester and adult mothers postpartum. Interviews were conducted when infants were about 6 and 12 months of age. Data included age of occurrence for eight markers, age at adding complementary foods, two 24-h dietary recalls, and two measurements of growth. RESULTS: Adolescent mothers reported a significantly earlier age at which the infant "holds a spoon by self" and "drinks alone from a trainer cup." Six other markers were not significantly different between groups. Adolescent mothers fed cereal significantly earlier than did adult mothers, but there were no significant differences for fruit, vegetables, and meat. At 12 months, infants of adolescents had intakes of vitamin D and iron which were < 100% of recommended allowances, as did infants of adult mothers for vitamin D, iron, and zinc. Dietary fat was significantly higher at 6 and 12 months and vitamin C was lower at 12 months for infants of adolescents compared to the adult group. CONCLUSIONS: Compared to adult mothers, adolescent mothers reported earlier mean ages for developmental markers related to self-feeding, and introduced cereal earlier. In each group, selected nutrient intakes decreased from recommended amounts in the 6-12-month period. Fat intakes were significantly different between groups at 6 and 12 months.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To assess the effect of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA)- and vitamin E-supplemented formula feeding on erythrocyte and plasma alpha-tocopherol (VE), and plasma retinol (VA) concentrations in neonates and to compare these values with those found in infants feeding on infant formula without LCPUFA or breast milk SETTING: University Hospital of Granada, Spain. SUBJECTS: 49 full-term infants. DESIGN AND INTERVENTION: Subjects who chose not to breast feed were fed either (i) unsupplemented infant formula (F) or (ii) infant formula supplemented with LCPUFA and vitamin E (FL). Alpha-tocopherol and retinol were measured at 7 days, 1 month and 3 months. RESULTS: Plasma and erythrocyte VE concentrations and plasma VE/total lipids ratio increased significantly in all groups at 1 month of life (P < 0.05), but did not change significantly between 1 month and 3 months in any group (P > 0.05). Erythrocyte VE and VA retinol concentrations were higher in infants fed an infant formula than in breast milk-fed infants at 1 month of life (P < 0.05). Finally, there were no significant differences in plasma or erythrocyte VE levels, plasma VA or plasma VE/total lipid ratio between any groups at 3 months of life (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Infants fed on LCPUFA- and vitamin E-supplemented infant formula for 3 months have similar vitamin E and A status to infants fed on breast milk or infant formula without LCPUFA supplementation.  相似文献

Localization acuity was examined by determining the smallest sound shift off midline and along the horizontal axis that infants could reliably discriminate (i.e., minimum audible angle). Infants 6, 9, 12, 15, and 18 months of age were seated in a dark room facing an array of nine loudspeakers positioned along the horizontal axis and at ear level. One loudspeaker was positioned at midline, 0°, and four others each were positioned to the right and left of 0°. A two-alternative forced-choice procedure was used in conjunction with a method of constant stimuli. A sequence of white-noise bursts was presented initially at 0° and was then shifted horizontally (right or left of 0°). The sequence continued to be presented until the infant made a directional head or eye movement, or both. Correct responses were visually reinforced. With increasing age, infants demonstrated a finer partitioning of auditory space along the horizontal axis. At 6 months, only a location shift of at least 12° off midline was reliably discriminated, whereas, by 18 months, infants reliably discriminated a shift of only 4°. Before 12 months of age, infants have difficulties coordinating and sequencing their movements to retrieve an object concealed in a box. This study examined (a) whether young infants can discover effective retrieval solutions and consolidate movement coordination earlier if exposed regularly to such a task and (b) whether different environments, indexed by box transparency, would impact the rate of learning and time of discovery of these solutions. Infants (N=12) were presented with an object retrieval task every week from 6 1/2 months of age until they were able to retrieve the toy from the box using coordinated two-handed patterns for 3 weeks. To reach that criterion, infants tested with an opaque box took 2 1/2 months and infants tested with a semitransparent box took 1 1/2 months. Both groups outperformed age-matched controls who received a one-time exposure to the task. Repeated exposure to the task and vision of the toy significantly enhanced this process of solution discovery. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献

In a prospective study, 251 infants were followed from birth up to 12 months of age, recording manifestations of allergy by questionnaires at 3, 6, 9 and 12 months and by clinical examinations at 6 and/or 12 months. Blood samples were obtained at birth and at 6 and 12 months and analysed for serum IgE levels. The children were skin-prick tested with foods at 6 and 12 months of age and with inhalant allergens at 12 months. Blood samples from SPT-positive individuals and controls were analysed for the presence of IgE antibodies to common inhalant allergens and their cord sera for the presence of IgE antibodies to cow's milk and egg. Twelve infants (7%) were sensitized against foods [3 to cow's milk (CM) and 9 to egg white (EW)] at 6 months and 11 (5%) (2 to CM and 9 to EW) at 12 months. Seventeen infants (7%) had IgE antibodies against inhalant allergens at 6 and/or 12 months, as determined by either SPT and/or the demonstration of circulating IgE antibodies. Out of 30 children with positive SPT and/or circulating IgE antibodies against foods and inhalant allergens at any age, 6 had atopic dermatitis, 4 gastrointestinal food allergy, 1 urticaria and 4 probable allergy, while 15 had no clinical manifestation of allergy. Immunoglobulin E antibodies against Ascaris were detected in 17% of the infants with S-IgE levels > 20 kU/l. The study indicates that the incidence of sensitization and manifestations of allergic disease is similar among Estonian and Scandinavian infants during the first year of life. Given earlier findings indicating a significantly higher prevalence of atopic disease in Scandinavian school-children relative to their counterparts in Eastern Europe, the present study suggests that the key events which determine disease expression do not occur exclusively during the first year of life.  相似文献

The present study aims to ascertain whether dietary supplementation with a mixture of vitamins C and E may prevent the maternal-age-associated decrease in both the number of ovulated oocytes after exogenous ovarian stimulation and embryo development in vitro in the mouse. Experimental females were fed a standard diet supplemented with i) high doses of vitamins C and E from the first day of weaning until 12 or 40 weeks of age; or ii) moderate doses of vitamins C and E from the first day of weaning until 12 weeks of age or from 22 to 33 weeks of age. The age-related reduction in ovulation rate was partially prevented by supplementing diet with high doses of vitamins C and E from the first day of weaning. Shorter periods of treatment and lower doses of vitamins C and E were also efficient in preventing the maternal-age-associated reduction in ovulation rate after exogenous ovarian stimulation. No effect of maternal diet on fertilisation and embryo development was observed until the blastocyst stage. Although any extrapolation to human fertility should be made with caution, these findings may have direct implications for preventing or delaying maternal-age-associated infertility in humans.  相似文献

Whether breast milk influences later neurodevelopment has been explored in non-randomised studies, potentially confounded by social and demographic differences between feed groups. Here in a strictly randomised prospective multicentre trial, Bayley psychomotor and mental development indices (PDI and MDI) were assessed at 18 months postterm in survivors of 502 preterm infants assigned to receive, during their early weeks, mature donor breast milk or a preterm formula. These diets were compared as sole enteral feeds or as supplements to the mother's expressed breast milk. No differences in outcome at 18 months were seen between the two diet groups despite the low nutrient content of donor milk in relation to the preterm formula and to the estimated needs of preterm infants. These results contrast with those reported from our parallel two centre study that compared infants randomly assigned a standard term formula or the preterm formula during their early weeks; those fed standard formula, now regarded as nutritionally insufficient for preterm infants, were substantially disadvantaged in PDI and MDI at 18 months post-term. It is shown here that infants from that study fed solely on standard formula had significantly lower developmental scores at 18 months than those fed on donor breast milk in the present study; yet the standard formula had a higher nutrient content than the donor milk. Thus, donor milk feeding was associated with advantages for later development that may have offset any potentially deleterious effects of its low nutrient content for preterm infants. As these outcome advantages were not confounded by the social and educational biases usually associated with mothers' choice to breast feed, our data add significant support to the view that breast milk promotes neurodevelopment.  相似文献

OBJECTIVES: To evaluate the implications of the patterns of weaning on the intake of macronutrients, energy intake, food volume and the energy density in healthy infants in the Mediterranean area of Spain. SUBJECTS AND STUDY DESIGN: Cross-sectional study of 120 clinically-healthy, non-breastfed infants at the ages of 4, 6, 9 and 12 months randomly recruited from three pediatric out-patient clinics. Nutrition data were obtained from the infant's food preparer using the 24-hour dietary recall method. RESULTS: Energy intake/kg body weight was within the recommended daily allowance and did not vary significantly with age (423 kJ/kg body weight at 4 months and 443.7 kJ/kg at 12 months). There was a progressive decrease in the intake volume (p < 0.001) in which carbohydrate-rich foodstuffs were the major factors, and an increase in the energy density (p < 0.001) in which the protein-rich items were the principal contributors. Lipid intake diminished progressively (p < 0.01) to a nadir of 26.4% of energy intake at 9 months of age. In each of the meals there was a tendency towards a progressive increase in energy intake with age. This increase was achieved by a significant increase in energy density (p < 0.001 in all meals, except dinner p < 0.05). Conversely, the intake volume of breakfast, lunch and dinner remained essentially unchanged between 6 and 12 months while that of the mid-evening meal decreased markedly. CONCLUSION: Increased energy requirements for growth is achieved, mainly, by an increase in the energy density rather than the intake volume during food-item diversification in the non-breastfed infant. Cereals were the central food item in the weaning diet in our study sample and which adequately compensates, in terms of energy requirement, for the early reliance on the lipids contained in milk.  相似文献

Human infants (aged 12–32 mo old) and adults learned a delayed nonmatching-to-sample (DNMS) task and single- and multiple-pair discrimination tasks using nonverbal procedures previously used with monkeys. Infants learned discriminations rapidly and at a young age (12 mo), but they required prolonged training and maturation before learning the DNMS task. Adults learned all tasks rapidly. After learning the DNMS task to criterion, memory performance declined systematically in an inverse relation to age. The dissociation in ability of infants on the DNMS vs discrimination tasks closely resembles the dissociation previously reported with infant monkeys (J. Bachevalier & M. Mishkin, 1984). Results from both infant humans and monkeys support a neurocognitive maturational model. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)  相似文献
