A computationally efficient method to obtain design parameters for tapered radiators is presented. The method uses a local mode theory in conjunction with the Schelkunoff equivalence principle. Radiation patterns of directive gain for dielectric wedge antennas of varying lengths and different dielectric constants are presented. Both the TE and TM cases are considered. The method is validated by comparison with data obtained from a recently developed more rigorous mode-matching method. Excellent agreement is obtained over the physically important angular range from endfire to broadside for the TE case and over the angular range spanned by the major lobe for the TM case.  相似文献

Properties of TE waves in a slab waveguide composed of five layers, including two Kerr-like nonlinear layers, are analyzed and examined. We find in particular the occurrence of an asymmetric mode, in addition to the expected symmetric and antisymmetric modes, though the waveguide geometry is symmetric. For the TE0symmetric mode, TE1antisymmetric and asymmetric modes, the dispersion curves, the relations between the effective index and the optical power density, and the variations of the transverse electric field patterns are illustrated and discussed in detail. As a result of this analysis, the regions in which the respective modes mainly reside are elucidated. We find that the effective index value of the symmetric mode at which the guide power vanishes is larger than that of the antisymmetric mode. For the case in which the effective indexes of the asymmetric and antisymmetric modes are identical, the power in the former mode is found to be larger than that in the latter.  相似文献

A simple method is presented for obtaining approximate expressions for the power reflection and transmission coefficients of surface waves scattered by a step discontinuity in a dielectric slab waveguide. The approximation is compared with Rozzi's exact solution. Agreement is quite good for a wide range of the relevant parameters.  相似文献

A broadband patch antenna fed by a coplanar waveguide (CPW) is presented. The antenna was designed based on the stacked patch technique developed for aperture-coupled patch antennas. It is similar in configuration to a conventional stacked patch antenna, but the lower of its two patches is fed with a conductor-backed CPW Both simulation and measurement show that the antenna has bandwidth of over 10% (for |S/sub 11/| /spl les/ -10 dB) centred at 10 GHz.  相似文献

A new modification of the TEM-horn antenna has been developed for ground-penetrating radar (GPR) applications. The antenna is based on a dielectric wedge, and thus, was named the dielectric wedge antenna. Tapering of the metal flairs has been used to match the antenna to the ground and to reduce the late-time ringing. The finite-difference time-domain model of the antenna has been created to investigate physical processes within the antenna and to optimize its performance. The dielectric wedge antenna has shown a superior (in comparison with the TEM-horn) performance by radiation in different types of the ground and has been used in a novel antenna configuration within a GPR system, which is dedicated for landmine detection.  相似文献

The authors describe twin Vivaldi antennas directly fed by a coplanar waveguide. They have been designed and measured for various angles between the radiating slots. A novel coplanar waveguide fed quasi-Yagi antenna is presented. A wide bandwidth is achieved by using a broadband coplanar waveguide to a slotline balun. An X-band prototype has been realised which demonstrates a broad bandwidth (30%), -19 dB front-to-back ratio, and cross-polarisation better than -17 dB at 10 GHz.  相似文献

A circular cylindrical dielectric layer is an idealized but rigorously analyzable model for radome covers. With a line source located on the concave side, an exact integral formulation is derived for the field transmitted to the convex side. Alternative representations are developed therefrom in terms of discrete guided modes and continuous spectra, and of ray integrals which, asymptotically at high frequencies, yield geometric optical fields that experience multiple internal reflections between the layer boundaries and also multiple reflections on the concave side. It is then shown that the higher order multiple reflected contributions can be expressed collectively as a ray field with a weighted transmission coefficient that is equivalent to the plane wave transmission coefficient for a plane parallel layer but includes a simple curvature correction. When source and observer are close to the inner and outer layer boundaries, respectively, and are also separated by a large angular interval, guided mode effects may have to be included as well. The result is a general and novel representation of the transmitted field in terms of a certain number of ordinary multiple reflected geometric optical ray fields, a single "collective" ray field, which includes in a composite manner all of the remaining internal reflections, and, possibly, the guided modes along the layer.  相似文献

The evolution of an optical pulse in a single-mode, step index dielectric slab waveguide which is characterized by an intensity dependent dielectric function in the core and cladding regions is treated by means of differential equation techniques. A cubic order non-linearity is considered. The electromagnetic field distribution in the slab waveguide region satisfies a non-linear wave equation. This field can be represented in terms of even TE guided modes with a slowly varying envelope amplitude function. Then using the well known approximation, based on the slowly varying character of the amplitude function, a non linear partial differential equation is obtained for the amplitude function. As the coefficients of this equation depend on the distance across the transverse direction X, an averaging technique over x is applied to reduce the nonlinear partial differential equation into a form that is easily transformed to the so-called non-linear Scroedinger differential equation. This equation is then attacked by means of the well known Inverse Scattering method in the case of reflection less potentials. The single and double soliton solutions are obtained explicitly for a single-mode slab waveguide. Finally numerical results are presented in the time domain.  相似文献

A compact and wide-band transverse slot antenna array in the broad wall of a rectangular waveguide partially filled with an H-plane -dielectric slab is presented in this paper. By partially filling an H-plane dielectric slab in the waveguide, the inter-element spacing between slots is reduced to be about 0.8 free-space wavelengths to avoid grating lobes. In addition, the partially filled material provides extra flexibility to adjust the slot impedance as desired within a relatively wide frequency range. A new feeding network is designed for this antenna array, which can prevent the shift in the pointing angle of the array's main radiation beam with the change of frequency. Experimental data for a 2/spl times/4 antenna array operating at X-band show that stable radiation pattern over a wide frequency range can be obtained. The measured gain is 16.9 dB at 10 GHz and the fluctuation is less than 2 dB over a frequency band of 1.5 GHz. The slot array's 10-dB return loss bandwidth is 13% and the cross-polarization level is better than -25 dB.  相似文献

A ridge waveguide longitudinal-slot antenna array with a compact transverse dimension is introduced. To broaden the bandwidth of the array, it is divided into two sub-arrays fed by a novel compact convex waveguide divider. A 16-element uniform linear array at X-band was fabricated and measured to verify the validity of the design. The measured bandwidth of S/sub 11//spl les/-15 dB reaches 14.9% while the measured cross-polarisation level is less than -36 dB over the entire bandwidth.  相似文献

An array consisting of short helical antennas is fed from a single rectangular waveguide. Stubs are introduced near the array elements in order to make a matching condition between the array elements and the waveguide. On the basis of a transmission line theory, a coupling phase and a coupling factor are determined. The mechanical rotation is applied to each array element so that in-phase condition at the aperture may be formed. Excellent agreement between the calculated and experimental results is demonstrated in the arrays of five, seven, and nine helical antennas.  相似文献

In this paper, the interaction of surface guided waves with a perfectly conducting scatterer shaped as a part of a circular screen and placed into a dielectric slab waveguide is investigated in mathematically correct manner. Due to the geometry of screen the original boundary value problem is reduced to dual series equations treated further by means of the Riemann-Hilbert Problem technique. Based on this approach, the numerical solution can be obtained, theoretically, with any desired accuracy. A new design for a coplanar waveguide (CPW) fed slot antenna is presented. The impedance matching and the radiation characteristics of this structure were studied using the method of moment technique. This antenna has an impedance bandwidth (for a VSWR<2) of 49% and a radiation bandwidth of 42% about its 4.8 GHz centre frequency, compared to the 12-20% impedance bandwidth of the standard CPW fed slot antenna. The cross-polarisation in both the principle planes is at least 20 dB below co-polarisation across the entire bandwidth. Simulated and measured results of the antenna are presented. This paper describes the theoretical and experimental results of a novel leaky-wave antenna incorporating a homogeneous dielectric transmission line and radiating aperture into a single structure. The primary objective of this investigation is to demonstrate the ability to control aperture radiation by simply cutting slots into a metal-free dielectric transmission line. Experimental line source antennas with identical periodic slots were designed to operate in the 35 GHz frequency region. The successful performance of these antennas resulted in the design of a dielectric line source antenna with a symmetrical amplitude taper which provided a lower sidelobe level. The design represents a significant breakthrough in achieving affordable, low-loss, lightweight antennas in the millimeter wave region. The most significant applications for this type of antenna include radar surveillance and tactical missile-seeker terminal guidance.  相似文献
