The networked home: an analysis of current developments and future trends   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
The paper examines the concept of the networked home as both a social institution and a technological construction. While the concept of networks is not new to family studies, the new technologies of information and communication are requiring us to look at the home as an intersection point of sociology and technology. Fundamental to our analysis is the concept of home as living space that unfolds into a collection of multiple centers – home as activity center, entertainment center, work center, information center, communication center, learning center and shopping center. In our analysis, the living space is subdivided structurally into social, physical and technological spaces in which the centers are embedded as organic elements. The integration of the centers with the living space model is fundamental to understanding the home as a networked home. Electronic Publication  相似文献

This paper is not so much a synthesis as a reflection on work analysis in French language ergonomics. It is structured around two questions. First, how is francophone analysis positioned in relation to other developments which themselves have attempted to describe work—like anglophone taxonomy? Second, how has francophone analysis evolved? The author suggests that the evolution reveals a shift. Gradually, over the years, questions of meaning and analysis have taken on a greater importance. This shift appears clearly, in work analysis and verbalization, two topics which are discussed in the paper.  相似文献

The IEEE held its eighth annual International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems 05 in Vienna, Austria. This was ITSC's first time in Europe and its first time as the annual conference of the IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems Society. The conference featured over 200 papers and hosted approximately 300 attendees, representing 35 countries. Furthermore, it exemplified the extraordinary progress ITS theory and applications have made over the last decade toward improving transportation systems' safety, efficiency, and quality. In this paper, we review the topics covered at ITSC 05, providing a broad overview of the field's current research programs and projects.  相似文献

The goal of this paper is to offer a structured synopsis of the problems in image motion computation and analysis, and of the methods proposed, exposing the underlying models and supporting assumptions. A sufficient number of pointers to the literature will be given, concentrating mostly on recent contributions. Emphasis will be on the detection, measurement and segmentation of image motion. Tracking, and deformable motion issues will be also addressed. Finally, a number of related questions which could require more investigations will be presented.  相似文献

Developed more than 30 years ago to address mainframe computing problems, virtual machine monitors have resurfaced on commodity platforms, offering novel solutions to challenges in security, reliability, and administration. Stanford University researchers began to look at the potential of virtual machines to overcome difficulties that hardware and operating system limitations imposed: This time the problems stemmed from massively parallel processing (MPP) machines that were difficult to program and could not run existing operating systems. With virtual machines, researchers found they could make these unwieldy architectures look sufficiently similar to existing platforms to leverage the current operating systems. From this project came the people and ideas that underpinned VMware Inc., the original supplier of VMMs for commodity computing hardware. The implications of having a VMM for commodity platforms intrigued both researchers and entrepreneurs.  相似文献

目的 基于内容的图像检索方法利用从图像提取的特征进行检索,以较小的时空开销尽可能准确的找到与查询图片相似的图片。方法 本文从浅层特征、深层特征和特征融合3个方面对图像检索国内外研究进展和面临的挑战进行介绍,并对未来的发展趋势进行展望。结果 尺度下不变特征转换(SIFT)存在缺乏空间几何信息和颜色信息,高层语义的表达不够等问题;而CNN (convolutional neural network)特征则往往缺乏足够的底层信息。为了丰富描述符的信息,通常将SIFT与CNN等特征进行融合。融合方式主要包括:串连、核融合、图融合、索引层次融合和得分层(score-level)融合。"融合"可以有效地利用不同特征的互补性,提高检索的准确率。结论 与SIFT相比,CNN特征的通用性及几何不变性都不够强,依然是图像检索领域面临的挑战。  相似文献

阐述了CAPP的发展历程,并从不同角度对CAPP进行了分类。在分析国内外CAPP发展现状的基础上,提出了CAPP的“智能化”、“工具化”、“集成化”和“基于Internet全球化”等发展趋势。结合国内CAPP的应用现状,讨论了当前国内CAPP所面临的诸多问题:研究与开发有较大片面性;应用范围过于狭窄;对系统化、实用化、工程化研究重视不够;重表现形式,对工艺数据本身重视不够;工艺的规范化、标准化程度很低。  相似文献

Advanced nanomaterials such as carbon nanotubes (CNTs) display unprecedented properties such as strength, electrical conductance, thermal stability, and intriguing optical properties. These properties of CNT allow construction of small microfluidic devices leading to miniaturization of analyses previously conducted on a laboratory bench. With dimensions of only millimeters to a few square centimeters, these devices are called lab-on-a-chip (LOC). A LOC device requires a multidisciplinary contribution from different fields and offers automation, portability, and high-throughput screening along with a significant reduction in reagent consumption. Today, CNT can play a vital role in many parts of a LOC such as membrane channels, sensors and channel walls. This review paper provides an overview of recent trends in the use of CNT in LOC devices and covers challenges and recent advances in the field. CNTs are also reviewed in terms of synthesis, integration techniques, functionalization and superhydrophobicity. In addition, the toxicity of these nanomaterials is reviewed as a major challenge and recent approaches addressing this issue are discussed.  相似文献

The last two decades have witnessed a revolutionary development in the field of biomedical and diagnostic imaging. Imaging procedures and modalities which were only in the experimental research phase in the early part of the last two decades, have now become universally accepted clinical procedures. They include computerized tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound imaging, nuclear medicine imaging, computerized hematological cell analysis, etc. In the past, the conventional and relatively simple image processing techniques such as image enhancement, gray-level mapping, spectral analysis, region extraction, etc. have been modified for biomedical images and successfully applied for processing and analysis. The role of image enhancement, gray-level mapping, and image reconstruction from projections algorithms in CT and other radiological imaging modalities is well evident. Recently, many advances in biomedical image processing, analysis, and understanding algorithms have shown a great potential for enhancing and interpreting useful diagnostic information from these images more accurately. This paper presents a review on the current state-of-the-art techniques in biomedical image processing and comments on future trends.  相似文献

With today’s global digital environment, the Internet is readily accessible anytime from everywhere, so does the digital image manipulation software; thus, digital data is easy to be tampered without notice. Under this circumstance, integrity verification has become an important issue in the digital world. The aim of this paper is to present an in-depth review and analysis on the methods of detecting image tampering. We introduce the notion of content-based image authentication and the features required to design an effective authentication scheme. We review major algorithms and frequently used security mechanisms found in the open literature. Transfemoral amputation is a common amputation procedure for the human lower limbs. Passive, semi-active, and active prosthetic devices are usually prescribed to amputees in order to restore their quality of life (QOL) according to their abilities. From an engineering perspective, prosthetic and normal gait analysis, actuator technology, and biologic prosthetic control strategies are some of the current objects of study on active lower limb prosthetic design which aimed to reduce potential biomechanical disorders such as gait asymmetry or elevated metabolic cost due to the use of passive prosthetic devices. The main goal of active prosthetic design is to deliver prosthetic assistance at biological levels. This paper reviews the latest developments of semi-active and active prosthetics for transfemoral amputees; as well as the common design considerations and efficiency assessments performed on active transfemoral prosthetics under development in recent years.  相似文献
