Nonlinear behavior of laminated composite plates and shells is studied. In the analysis, material nonlinearity due to the matrix degradation at the initial failure is considered along with the geometrical nonlinearity in the deformation process. An effective way of accounting the damage of the material due to initial failure is incorporated into a finite element analysis of the nonlinear behavior of the structural members. Experimental study is done on the filament-wound cylinders and laminated plates. The results are compared with the ones from the numerical analysis.  相似文献

Optimization procedures are presented that consider the static and dynamic characteristic constraints for laminated composite plates and hybrid laminated composite plates subject to a concentrated load on the center of the plate. The design variables adopted are ply angle or ply thickness. Considered constraints are deflection, natural frequency and specific damping capacity. Using a recursive linear programming method, nonlinear optimization problems are solved, and by introducing the design scaling factor, the number of iterations is reduced significantly. Relating interactive optimization procedures with the finite element method analysis, various hybrid composite plates with arbitrary boundary conditions can be designed optimally. In the optimization procedure, verification of analysis and design of the laminated composite plates are compared with a previous paper. Various design results are presented on laminated composite plates and hybrid laminated composite plates.  相似文献

Three-dimensional finite strip analysis of laminated panels   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper, a combined finite strip and state space approach is introduced to obtain three-dimensional solutions of laminated composite plates with simply supported ends. The finite strip method is used to present in-plane displacement and stress components, while the through-thickness components are obtained by using the method of state equation. The method can replace the traditional three-dimensional finite element solutions for structures that have regular geometric plans and simple boundary conditions, where a full three-dimensional finite element analysis is very often both extravagant and unnecessary. The new method provides results that show good agreement with available benchmark problems having different material compositions, thickness and boundary conditions. The new method provides a three-dimensional solution for laminated plates, while the advantages of using the traditional finite strip method are fully taken. This solution also yields a continuous transverse stress field across material interfaces that normally is not achievable by other numerical modelling of laminates, such as the traditional finite element method.  相似文献

Increased use of laminated composites has pointed out the need for better analytic tools. These tools must be able to correctly account for normal shear in the laminates and should be able to solve nonlinear problems. The finite element method is applied in this paper to analyze laminated composites using an approach which includes both nonlinear and normal shear effects. A finite element is formulated from basic elasticity equations. The most unique characteristic of the element is the manner in which normal shear is handled. The normal to a reference surface is allowed to not only rotate but also to change shape. Not only is displacement continuity imposed at lamina interfaces, but also slope continuity is guaranteed. After a complete general formulation of the finite element is presented, the method is specialized to plates so that the convergence characteristics, the accuracy and the applicability of the element can be studied. The finite element does an excellent job of analyzing laminated composites, and gives the analyst the ability to do nonlinear analysis of laminated composites under a variety of loading and boundary conditions.  相似文献

A finite element analysis of laminated shells reinforced with laminated stiffeners is described in this paper. A rectangular laminated anisotropic shallow thin shell finite element of 48 d.o.f. is used in conjunction with a laminated anisotropic curved beam and shell stiffening finite element having 16 d.o.f. Compatibility between the shell and the stiffener is maintained all along their junction line. Some problems of symmetrically stiffened isotropic plates and shells have been solved to evaluate the performance of the present method. Behaviour of an eccentrically stiffened laminated cantilever cylindrical shell has been predicted to show the ability of the present program. General shells amenable to rectangular meshes can also be solved in a similar manner.  相似文献

On the basis of the theory of three-dimensional elasticity, this paper presents a state space finite element solution for stress analysis of cross-ply laminated composite shells. This is a continuation of the authors’ previously published work on laminated plates [Compos. Struct. 57 (1–4) (2002) 117; Comput. Methods Appl. Mech. Engrg. 191 (37–38) (2002) 4259]. Once again a state space formulation is introduced to solve for through-thickness stress distributions, while the traditional finite elements are used to approximate the in-surface variations of state variables. A three-dimensional laminated shell element is established in an arbitrary orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system, while the application of the element is shown by calculating stresses in laminated cylindrical shells. Compared with the traditional finite element method, the new solution provides accurate continuous through-thickness distributions of both displacements and transverse stresses.  相似文献

This work presents an isogeometric finite element formulation based on Bézier extraction of the non-uniform rational B-splines (NURBS) in combination with a generalized unconstrained higher-order shear deformation theory (UHSDT) for laminated composite plates. The proposed approach relaxes zero-shear stresses at the top and bottom surfaces of the plates and no shear correction factors are required. A weak form of static, free vibration and transient response analyses for laminated composite plates is then established and is numerically solved using isogeometric Bézier finite elements. NURBS can be written in terms of Bernstein polynomials and the Bézier extraction operator. IGA is implemented with the presence of C°-continuous Bézier elements which allow to easily incorporate into existing finite element codes without adding many changes as the former IGA. As a result, all computations can be performed based on the basis functions defined previously as the same way in finite element method (FEM). Numerical results performed over static, vibration and transient analysis show high efficiency of the present method.  相似文献

Large amplitude free flexural vibrations of laminated orthotropic plates are studied using C0 shear flexible QUAD-8 plate element. The nonlinear governing equations are solved using the direct iteration technique. Numerical results are obtained for isotropic, orthotropic and cross-ply laminated plates with simply-supported boundary conditions on immovable edges. It is observed that hardening behaviour is increased for thick plates and orthotropic plates.  相似文献

Buckling and postbuckling analyses of circular laminated composite plates with delaminations are presented. An axisymmetric finite element model based on a layer-wise laminated composite plate theory is developed to formulate the problem. Geometric nonlinearity in the sense of von Kármán and imperfections in the form of initial global deflection and initial delamination openings are included. A simple contact algorithm which precludes the physically inadmissible overlapping between delaminated surfaces is proposed and incorporated into the analysis.

Numerical results are obtained addressing the effects of the initial imperfections, the number of delaminations and their sizes on the critical buckling load and buckling mode shapes as well as postbuckling responses.  相似文献

A spline finite strip is proposed to analyse thick isotropic or laminated composite plates. The formulation is based upon the principle of virtual work and the third-order plate theory developed by Reddy. The variational functional requires the satisfaction of C1,-continuity of the assumed vertical deflection variable which can be easily fulfilled by the present method. The proposed spline finite strip is a conforming element with a smaller number of unknowns at each node compared to other existing elements based on the third-order theory. For the analysis of thin isotropic or laminated plates, the present element shows no sign of shear locking. A number of computational examples are given to demonstrate the efficiency and the accuracy of the present method.  相似文献

The lamination arrangements of moderately thick laminated composite plates for optimal dynamic characteristics are studied via a constrained multi-start global optimization technique. In the optimization process, the dynamical analysis of laminated composite plates is accomplished by utilizing a shear deformable laminated composite finite element, in which the exact expressions for determining shear correction factors were adopted and the modal damping model constructed based on an energy concept. The optimal layups of laminated composite plates with maximum fundamental frequency or modal damping are then designed by maximizing the frequency or modal damping capacity of the plate via the multi-start global optimization technique. The effects of length-to-thickness ratio, aspect ratio and number of layer groups upon the optimum fiber orientations or layer group thicknesses are investigated by means of a number of examples of the design of symmetrically laminated composite plates.  相似文献

In view of the increasing interest in using composite materials for aerospace structures, the analysis of laminated composite plates becomes essential. A three-dimensional eight-node hybrid stress finite element method is developed for the analysis of laminated plates. The hybrid stress model is based on the modified complementary energy principle and takes into account the transverse shear deformation effects. The displacement field is interpolated through shape functions and nodal displacements. All three displacement components are assumed to vary linearly through the thickness of each lamina. The stress field is interpolated through assumed stress polynomials with 55 stress parameters for each lamina. All six stresses are included and satisfy the homogeneous equilibrium equations. The validity of the hybrid stress finite element model is determined by comparing the predicted numerical results with the existing three-dimensional elasticity solutions. Excellent accuracy and fast convergence are observed in the numerical results.  相似文献

A simple displacement-based 3-node, 18-degree-of-freedom flat triangular plate/shell element LDT18 is proposed in this paper for linear and geometrically nonlinear finite element analysis of thin and thick laminated composite plates. The presented element is based on the first-order shear deformation theory (FSDT), and the total Lagrangian approach is employed to formulate the element for geometrically nonlinear analysis. The deflection and rotation functions of the element boundary are obtained from the Timoshenko’s laminated composite beam functions, hence convergence to the thin plate solution can be achieved theoretically and shear-locking problem is avoided naturally. The plane displacement interpolation functions of the Airman’s triangular membrane element with drilling degrees of freedom are taken as the in-plane displacements of the element. Numerical examples demonstrate that the present element is accurate and efficient for linear and geometrically nonlinear analysis of thin to moderately thick laminated composite plates.  相似文献

. This paper presents a computational inverse technique to detect the location and length of cracks in anisotropic laminated plates. The scattered elastic harmonic wave fields in the laminated plates with horizontal or vertical crack are calculated using the strip element method, whereby the anisotropic laminated plate is discretized into strip elements in the thickness direction. By applying the principle of virtual work, the governing differential equations of the wave propagation are derived for the field variables. These differential equations are solved analytically together with the vertical boundary conditions. The crack length and its location are then identified by minimizing an error function, which is defined as the difference between the scattered wave fields in plates with actual and searched parameters. A uniform micro-genetic algorithm is employed to search for the correct parameters that minimize the error function. Numerical examples are given to demonstrate the efficiency of the procedure in the detection of the location and the length of both horizontal and vertical cracks in composite laminates.  相似文献

The results of a three-dimensional, geometrically nonlinear, finite-element analysis of the bending of cross-ply laminated anisotropie composite plates are presented. Individual laminae are assumed to be homogeneous, orthotropic and linearly elastic. A fully three-dimensional isoparametric finite element with eight nodes (i.e. linear element) and 24 degrees of freedom (three displacement components per node) is used to model the laminated plate. The finite element results of the linear analysis are found to agree very well with the exact solutions of cross-ply laminated rectangular plates under sinusiodal loading. The finite element results of the three-dimensional, geometrically nonlinear analysis are compared with those obtained by using a shear deformable, geometrically nonlinear, plate theory. It is found that the deflections predicted by the shear deformable plate theory are in fair agreement with those predicted by three-dimensional elasticity theory; however stresses were found to be not in good agreement  相似文献

Finite element analysis is performed to study the effects of layerwise in-plane displacements on fundamental frequencies and specific damping capacity for composite laminated plates. The cross-ply and angle-ply composite laminated plates with simply-supported boundary conditions are considered. The strain energies of each stress component are computed to quantify the amount of the transverse shear deformations for thin and thick plates. The results show that the length-to-thickness ratios, cross-ply ratios, and fiber orientations have a great influence on the in-plane displacement responses. It is also shown that the layerwise in-plane displacements should be taken into account for the dynamic analysis of thick composite plate.  相似文献

This paper presents the application of a refined finite element model to the elastic and elastic-plastic dynamic analysis of anisotropic laminated plates. Dynamic analysis is based on Newmark's algorithm used in conjunction with the Hughes and Liu predictor-corrector scheme resulting in an ‘effective static problem’ which is solved using a Newton-Raphson-type process. Flow theory is used in the inelastic range and the Huber-Mises yielding surface extended by Hill for anisotropic materials is adopted. Numerical results obtained for two categories of anisotropic structures, namely cross-ply laminated plates and angle-ply laminated plates, are presented and the effects of anisotropy and bending/ stretching coupling on the dynamic elastic and elastic-plastic responses are discussed. The effects of lamina stack sequences and lamina angle sequences on the dynamic responses are also considered.  相似文献

An approach using a higher-order plate element to include the effect of transverse shear deformation on free vibration of laminated plate is presented. The total displacement of the element is expressed as the sum of the displacement due to bending and that due to shear deformation. The double-sized stiffness and mass matrices due to the separation of bending and shear displacements are then reduced to the size as if only the total deflection was considered. Numerical results for natural frequencies for a range of different isotropic and anisotropic plates with various thickness-to-length ratios are obtained and compared with solutions available in the literature. The effect of transverse shear deformation on natural frequencies of higher modes of laminated plates is also discussed.  相似文献

A novel computational approach for the dynamic analysis of a large scale rigid–flexible multibody system composed of composite laminated plates is proposed. The rigid parts in the system are described through the Natural Coordinate Formulation (NCF) and the flexible bodies in the system are modeled via the finite elements of Absolute Nodal Coordinate Formulation (ANCF), which can lead to a constant mass matrix for the derived system equation of motion. For modeling composite laminated plates accurately, a new composite laminated plate element of ANCF is proposed and the corresponding efficient formulations for evaluating both the elastic force and its Jacobian of the element are derived from the first Piola–Kirchhoff stress tensor. To improve computational efficiency, the sparse matrix technology and graph theory are used to solve the huge set of linear algebraic equations in the process of integrating the equations of motion by using the generalized-a method, and an OpenMP based parallel scheme is also introduced. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed approach is validated through two numerical examples. One is the static simulation of a single composite laminated plate under gravity and the other is the dynamic simulations of unfolding process of a satellite system with a pair of complicated antennas.  相似文献

In this paper, Semiloof shell finite element formulation has been extended to thermal stress analysis of laminated plates and shells. The accuracy of the formulation has been verified using sample problems available in the literature. Thermal stresses in cross-ply and angle-ply laminated plates and shells subjected to thermal gradients across the thickness are presented for different boundary conditions, taking into account the temperature dependence of the material properties. The behaviour of laminates under thermal load is found to be different from that under mechanical loads in certain respects.  相似文献
