当前,在微机上建立的各种应用软件系统,多数采用菜单作为系统与用户交往的界面。对于一个较大的应用系统来说,菜单往往是多层次的,即系统向用户提供的各种服务功能,不是直接展示给用户,而是通过若干级选择,才能达到可执行的功能模块。这样的一个应用系统,其组织形式是树状的,各个功能模块之间通过调用关系,组成一个树状的结构。反映在界面上,用户看到的也就不只是一张简单的菜单,实质上是面对一棵菜单树。用户是在菜单树上进行选择。  相似文献

GCI is a Unix-based tool for developing interactive CAD programs. By separating command/ menu definitions from the progam, GCI makes it easier to change and extend the user interface. The language provided by GCI is used to define the syntax of commands, menus, messages, and help text. Generally, GCI supports a static hierarchical structure of commands and menus. However, through a program interface, an application program has the freedom to change environments, commands and menus. This flexibility of run-time control of the user interface is essential for developing highly responsive interfaces in a CAD environment. This paper presents the main concepts and definition language of GCI. It then discusses architectural and implementation issues, and finally presents a typical application's view of using the tool.  相似文献

The Menu Creation and Interpretation System (MCIS) is a menu system development tool that can provide the high-level control structure and the user interface for any application program or software system. MCIS simplifies the task of building menu-driven systems while presenting a user interface that is easily learned and easy to use. Human factors considerations have been stressed in the system design. A user is able to jump from one menu to another, obtain help whenever it is needed, and easily recover from errors. Menu systems created with MCIS are extensible and easily modified, enabling them to meet changing user needs. In addition, through the specification of user profiles, menu systems can be customized to meet the needs of individual users. MCIS is written in the C programming language under the UNIX

    Design paradigms often ignore the diverse goals users bring to the computer interface. Any human-computer interaction can be viewed as a marriage of two systems: The user begins the interaction by formulating an information goal, and the computer software meets that goal with a sometimes complex list of potential topic areas. The user then accesses that topic list through the computer interface. Part of the act of accessing the topic list is selecting a potential topic, and this action is often supported by a menu interface. Although research is pervasive on how best to organize menu items to facilitate learning, search speed, and reduced selection errors, little has been done to examine the impact of different types of user goals or cues on a menu's effectiveness. In a study using three distinct cues-direct match, synonym, and iconic - and two menu organizations - alphabetical and functional-data suggest that (a) the functional menu is more effective than the alphabetical menu for the synonym and iconic cues, (b) learning occurs with both menu designs (i.e., selection speed increases rapidly across the five trial blocks), and (c) users make fewer errors with the functionally organized menu. The results, in general, encourage more rigorous investigation of the interaction between the tasks users bring to menu interfaces and the optimal design of those menus.  相似文献

    Software systems developed in recent years are becoming increasingly powerful, but in most cases they tend to abandon the user to deal with the complexity of the system alone. There is an immense need for systems with individual, context-sensitive support. The paper discusses the development of such a support system with special focus on the user interface. The extension of an existing and complex program. Excel, to an adaptive and customizable system is described. This extension is called Flexcel, and it has been implemented and evaluated.

    The primary aim of this extension is to provide a convenient environment for adapting Excel's user interface to particular users and their current tasks. For example, it allows the user to define new menu for actions that are frequently needed and normally require a tedious dialog step. Flexcel also analyzes the user's interaction style and presents adaptation suggestions. A critique component supports the user in his/her problem solving and learning activities related to the adaptability of Flexcel's user interface.  相似文献
