Recording of periodic variations of amplitude and phase by the interference of coherent laser beams in a hologram offers a natural means for creating one-, two-, and three-dimensional photonic crystals. For device applications such as waveguides in optical communications, one usually needs to create defects in photonic crystals. We present an analysis and an experimental demonstration of a double-exposure method for creating photonic crystals with line defects. The idea is based on the principle of superposition of holographic grating patterns of different spatial periods while the recording medium is held stationary and on the application of a threshold to the recording medium. We use the same symmetrical optical architecture to achieve nondefective and defective holographic photonic crystals. The technique may be extended to the creation of defects based on functional synthesis by means of Fourier series, by use of light sources of other wavelengths with an appropriate high-contrast recording material.  相似文献

A space-variant optical correlator is proposed on the basis of the fractional Fourier transform. The optical device uses as a recording medium for the holographic filter a photorefractive Bi(12)GeO(2) (BGO) crystal. The experimental results confirm the shift-variance properties. 本文研究了一种基于聚乙烯醇/丙烯酸-2-羟基乙酯的新型全息存储材料;研究了不同浓度的丙烯酸-2-羟基乙酯对光聚物材料衍射效率的影响;在厚度为95μm的光聚物薄膜中当曝光能量为231mJ/cm2时获得了近75%的高衍射效率。应用Matlab软件以光化学漂白理论、角度响应曲线理论为拟合模型,进行了基于Levenberg-Marquardt算法的非线性曲线拟合;通过非线性曲线拟合研究了不同浓度的丙烯酸-2-羟基乙酯对摩尔吸收系数、量子产率、折射率调制度、光聚物薄膜厚度等多个全息参数的影响;实验表明,丙烯酸-2-羟基乙酯的加入可有效增加光聚物薄膜的厚度并且改善光聚物薄膜的结构和性能,达到提升聚乙烯醇/丙烯酰胺光聚物初始材料的全息特性,改进光聚物材料全息光学数据存储容量的目地。  相似文献

We demonstrate one-way image compensation for a thin and polarization-sensitive aberrator by the use of optical lock-in detection. Optical lock-in detection is accomplished by dual-phase modulation in four-wave mixing in a holographic medium. In our scheme, both the image-bearing beam and the reference beam copropagate through the aberrator under the same polarization condition. The holographic grating that reconstructs only the corrected image was generated by selective recording in optical lock-in detection. The phase aberration is subtracted out in the holographic process. This scheme permits image correction through the polarization-sensitive aberrator.  相似文献

The use of coherent optical processors for improving the quality of degraded underwater images is discussed, and a holographic filter suitable for the enhancement of contrast in underwater images is described. The filter is a modified matched spatial filter, and it performs a nonlinear local contrast enhancement. The theory of the operation of the coherent optical image processor with this new filter is presented and experimentally verified. The removal of the backscattered light from underwater images is demonstrated under laboratory conditions. The results show an improvement in the overall image contrast.  相似文献

A novel reading and writing technology for a holographic versatile disk (HVD) system called collinear technology is developed. With this method a two-dimensional data page can be recorded as volumetric holograms generated by a reference beam and a signal beam that are bundled on the same axis and that are irradiated on the recording medium through a single objective lens. The multiplex recording and reconstruction process is demonstrated, and it is shown that the optical configuration and the dichroic medium disk structure are suitable for a compact system. With the HVD's special structure, the system can use a servo to focus, track, and locate the reading and writing addresses. A unique selectable-capacity recording format of a HVD and its standardization activity are also introduced. This method willenable us to construct a small HVD system with CD and DVD upper compatibilities.  相似文献

We investigate the recording dynamics of Omnidex photopolymer film from DuPont. We use a reviewed version of the diffusion model proposed by Zhao and Mouroulis [J. Mod. Opt. 41, 1929 (1994)] in order to describe the recording response that combined photopolymerization and free-monomer diffusion process. Two different experiments are detailed that lead to the determination of material kinetic parameters. These values are introduced in the numerical model to provide quantitative simulations of a grating formation under various holographic exposures. Theoretical results are experimentally checked as a validation of the model. We extend its applications to several secondary investigations, such as volume-shrinkage influence on refractive-index distribution and spectral selectivity of reflection gratings. This study improves the understanding of the recording process and consequently allows to build more accurate holographic components in this material to be built.  相似文献

We measure the M/# and the bit-error rate of a digital holographic storage system with a 4f optical arrangement for three configurations: recording at the Fourier plane with and without a phase mask and recording outside the Fourier plane without a phase mask. Unexpectedly, no significant change in the dynamic range was observed when a phase mask was used to record in thick crystals. However, we show that a phase mask is a key component in a 4f digital holographic storage system if high-fidelity holograms with optimum volumetric density are to be stored.  相似文献

We characterize the optical modulation properties of a polyvinyl alcohol/acrylamide (PVA/AA) photopolymer at the lowest end of recorded spatial frequencies. To achieve this goal we have constructed a double beam interferometer in combination with the setup to expose the recording material. This is a novel approach since usually holographic recording materials are only characterized at high spatial frequencies. Some benefits are provided by the approach we propose: a direct calculation of the properties of the material is possible, and on the other hand additional information can be obtained since the results are not influenced by diffusion processes. Furthermore, this characterization is needed to optimize the PVA/AA photopolymers for another range of applications, such as recording of diffractive optical elements, where very low spatial frequencies are recorded. Different PVA/AA compositions and layer thicknesses have been analyzed. We have found that, depending on the layer characteristics, we can achieve high values of the phase-shift modulation depth and enhance the sensitivity of the material.  相似文献

We demonstrate that high-quality interference filters for the wavelength range 1300-1600 nm can be holographically fabricated in DuPont HRF-800X001 photopolymer material by use of visible laser illumination. We also summarize a chain-matrix technique, which we call thin-film decomposition, that is useful for modeling multilayer films with an arbitrary index profile n(z). We use the thin-film-decomposition technique to create design curves that allow one to choose the proper exposure angle and film thickness with which to fabricate a holographic interference filter with a desired transmission efficiency and bandwidth at a particular wavelength. These curves are of general utility and are not confined to any particular holographic recording medium. Excellent agreement between theory and experiment is found.  相似文献

An optical implementation of a wavelet transform is presented. Optical Haar wavelets are created by the use of computer-generated holography. Two different holographic techniques are explored: (1) interferogram and (2) detour-phase. A discrete representation of a continuous wavelet transform is obtained by the optical correlation of an image with a Haar mother wavelet. The diffraction efficiency of volume gratings written by two-wave mixing in a cerium-doped potassium sodium strontium barium niobate (Ce:KNSBN) photorefractive crystal is studied. It is found that the diffraction efficiency strongly depends on the polarization of writing beams and exhibits loop behavior with respect to the fringe modulation. The fringe modulations before and behind the crystal are compared. Modified coupled-wave theory is used to fit the experimental data. This research presents data that are relevant to the application of Ce:KNSBN crystals to holographic recording and optical information processing.  相似文献

Two optical systems based on holographic field lenses are presented. They have been specifically designed for the CCD camera acquisition of the interferograms obtained from a fluid plane, when one uses holographic interferometry to measure fluid velocities. The use of these systems allows for easy recording of interferograms, all having the same size and position on the CCD, independent of the fluid-plane observation direction. The holographic lenses act as directional field lenses; they change the divergent beam that reaches the lens into a convergent beam that focuses on the camera aperture. These distortionless interferogram recording systems have been demonstrated in a Rayleigh-Bénard convective flow.  相似文献

An optical setup to achieve superresolution in microscopy using holographic recording is presented. The technique is based on off-axis illumination of the object and a simple optical image processing stage after the imaging system for the interferometric recording process. The superresolution effect can be obtained either in one step by combining a spatial multiplexing process and an incoherent addition of different holograms or it can be implemented sequentially. Each hologram holds the information of each different frequency bandpass of the object spectrum. We have optically implemented the approach for a low-numerical-aperture commercial microscope objective. The system is simple and robust because the holographic interferometric recording setup is done after the imaging lens.  相似文献

We describe the design and implementation of a high-data-rate high-capacity digital holographic storage disk system. Various system design trade-offs that affect density and data-rate performance are described and analyzed. In the demonstration system that we describe, high-density holographic recording is achieved by use of high-resolution short-focal-length optics and correlation shift multiplexing in photopolymer disk media. Holographic channel decoding at a 1-Gbit/s data rate is performed by custom-built electronic hardware. A benchmark sustained optical data-transfer rate of 10 Gbits/s has been successfully demonstrated.  相似文献

We present a spatio-temporal operator formalism and beam propagation simulations that describe the broadband efficient adaptive method for a true-time-delay array processing (BEAMTAP) algorithm for an optical beamformer by use of a photorefractive crystal. The optical system consists of a tapped-delay line implemented with an acoustooptic Bragg cell, an accumulating scrolling time-delay detector achieved with a traveling-fringes detector, and a photorefractive crystal to store the adaptive spatio-temporal weights as volume holographic gratings. In this analysis, linear shift-invariant integral operators are used to describe the propagation, interference, grating accumulation, and volume holographic diffraction of the spatio-temporally modulated optical fields in the system to compute the adaptive array processing operation. In addition, it is shown that the random fluctuation in time and phase delays of the optically modulated and transmitted array signals produced by fiber perturbations (temperature fluctuations, vibrations, or bending) are dynamically compensated for through the process of holographic wavefront reconstruction as a byproduct of the adaptive beam-forming and jammer-excision operation. The complexity of the cascaded spatial-temporal integrals describing the holographic formation, and subsequent readout processes, is shown to collapse to a simple imaging condition through standard operator manipulation. We also present spatio-temporal beam propagation simulation results as an illustrative demonstration of our analysis and the operation of a BEAMTAP beamformer.  相似文献

A holographic setup that involves the use of a multicore optical fiber as an in situ recording medium has been developed. The hologram is transmitted to a CCD camera for electronic processing, and the image is reconstructed numerically, providing more flexibility to the holographic process. The performances of this imaging system have been evaluated in terms of the resolution limit and robustness relative to noise. The experimental cutoff frequency has been measured experimentally over a range of observation distances (4-10 mm) and presents a very good agreement with the predictions made by simulation. The system features a resolution of 5-μm objects for a 4-mm observation distance. The different sources of noise have been analyzed, and their influence on resolution has been proved to be nonrelevant.  相似文献

Photochromic diarylethene, 1,2-bis[2-methyl-5-(3-fluorophenyl)-3-thienyl] perfluorocylcopentene (1a), was synthesized. The compound showed good photochromic reactions both in solution and in PMMA matrix by photo-irradiation. Using the diarylethene 1b/PMMA film as recording medium and a He-Ne laser for recording and readout, four types of polarization holographic optical recording were accomplished for the first time. The results show that the orthogonal circular polarization recording is the best method for holographic optical recording when the target photochromic diarylethene is used as recording material.  相似文献

A method for the evaluation of images reconstructed from holograms recorded in thermoplastic materials is reported. The method is based on the use of the experimental modulation transfer function and nonlinear holographic characteristics of the recording material. Calculations have been carried out for high-numerical-aperture holograms of a five-element Ronchi ruling. The quality of the reconstructed image as a function of the recording parameters has been computed. The model predicts that it is possible to optimize holographic recording in these materials.  相似文献

One of the methods for smoothing the high intensity dc peak in the Fourier spectrum for reducing the reconstruction error in a Fourier transform volume holographic data storage system is to record holograms some distance away from or in front of the Fourier plane. We present the results of our investigation on the performance of such a defocused holographic data storage system in terms of bit-error rate and content search capability. We have evaluated the relevant recording geometry through numerical simulation, by obtaining the intensity distribution at the output detector plane. This has been done by studying the bit-error rate and the content search capability as a function of the aperture size and position of the recording material away from the Fourier plane.  相似文献
