Kriging model is an effective method to overcome huge computational cost for reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) problems. However, the results of RBDO usually depend on constraint boundaries within the local range that contains the RBDO optimum. Determining this local range and building adaptive response surfaces within it can avoid selecting samples in unrelated areas. In this research, a new RBDO process is proposed. In the first phase, Kriging models of constraints are built based on Latin Hypercube sampling method, and updated by two new samples in each iteration. One of these two samples is selected based on SVM and mean squared error to make sure it is located near constraint boundaries. Another one is the deterministic optimum point (DOP) of current Kriging models, which is obtained based on the deterministic optimization and specifies the direction to the RBDO optimum. And the RBDO design point is obtained by SORA. When consecutive RBDO design points are close enough to each other, the local range is determined based on the current RBDO design point and the current DOP. In the second phase, new samples are located on constraint boundaries within the local range to refine Kriging models. The location and the size of the local range is adaptively defined by the RBDO design point and the DOP during each iteration. Several optimization examples are selected to test the computation capability of the proposed method. The results indicate that the new method is more efficient and more accurate.  相似文献

Using Kriging model in the reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) process can reduce the computational cost effectively. However, the constraints in practical problems are often highly nonlinear and black box functions, and the cost of evaluations at design points is very high, such as the finite element analysis (FEA). So building accurate Kriging models will consume a huge amount of computing resources. Moreover, complex constraint functions will lead to the local minimum in the design space, which makes it difficult to get the global optimum. To cope with this problem, an adaptive sampling method based RBDO process (AS-RBDO) is proposed by introducing two new sampling criterions. The first criterion is built based on the support vector machine (SVM) and the sigmoid function. And the second criterion is built based on the improvement of the constraint boundary sampling (CBS) method. With the use of new strategies, AS-RBDO can not only guide the optimization to the global optimal direction, but also update the Kriging model only in the local range that has the greatest impact on the results of RBDO. Thus the unnecessary sampling and evaluations can be avoided effectively. Several examples are selected to test the computation capability of the proposed method. The results show that AS-RBDO can effectively improve the efficiency of the RBDO process.  相似文献

Metamodels have been widely used in engineering design and optimization. Sampling method plays an important role in the constructing of metamodels. This paper proposes an adaptive sampling strategy for Kriging metamodel based on Delaunay triangulation and TOPSIS (KMDT). In the proposed KMDT, Delaunay triangulation is employed to partition the design space according to current sample points. The area of each partitioned triangle is used to indicate the degree of dispersion of sample points, and the prediction error of Kriging metamodel at each triangle’s centroid is used to represent the local error of each triangle region. By calculating the weight of the area and prediction error for each triangle region using the entropy method and TOPSIS, the degree of dispersion of sample points and local errors of metamodel are taken into consideration to make a trade-off between global exploration and local exploitation during the sequential sampling process. As a demonstration, the proposed approach is compared to other three sampling methods using several numerical cases and the modeling of the aerodynamic coefficient for a three-dimensional aircraft. The result reveals that the proposed approach provides more accurate metamodel at the same simulation cost, which is very important in metamodel-based engineering design problems.  相似文献

Using surrogate models to substitute the computationally expensive limit state functions is a promising way to decrease the cost of implementing reliability-based design optimization (RBDO). To train the models efficiently, the active learning strategies have been intensively studied. However, the existing learning strategies either do not individually build the models according to importance measurement or do not completely relate to the reliability analysis results. Consequently, some points that are useless to refine the limit state functions or far away from the RBDO solutions are generated. This paper proposes a multi-constraint failure-pursuing sampling method to maximize the reward of adding new training points. A simultaneous learning strategy is employed to sequentially update the Kriging models with the points selected in the current approximate safe region. Moreover, the sensitive Kriging model as well as the sensitive sample point are identified based on the failure-pursuing scheme. A new point that is highly potential to improve the accuracy of reliability analysis and optimization can then be generated near the sensitive sample point and used to update the sensitive model. Besides, numerical examples and engineering application are used to validate the performance of the proposed method.

This study developed a reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) algorithm focusing on the ability of solving problems with nonlinear constraints or system reliability. In this case, a sampling technique is often adopted to evaluate the reliability analyses. However, simulation with an insufficient sample size often possesses statistical randomness resulting in an inaccurate sensitivity calculation. This may cause an unstable RBDO solution. The proposed approach used a set of deterministic variables, called auxiliary design points, to replace the random parameters. Thus, an RBDO is converted into a deterministic optimization (DO, α-problem). The DO and the analysis of finding the auxiliary design points (β-problem) are conducted iteratively until the solution converges. To maintain the stability of the RBDO solution with less computational cost, the proposed approach calculated the sensitivity of reliability (in the β-problem) with respect to the mean value of the pseudo-random parameters rather than the design variables. The stability of the proposed method was compared to that of the double-loop approach, and many factors, such as sample size, starting point and the parameters used in the optimization, were considered. The accuracy of the proposed method was confirmed using Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) with several linear and nonlinear numerical problems.  相似文献

Uncertainties are inherent to real-world systems. Taking them into account is crucial in industrial design problems and this might be achieved through reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) techniques. In this paper, we propose a quantile-based approach to solve RBDO problems. We first transform the safety constraints usually formulated as admissible probabilities of failure into constraints on quantiles of the performance criteria. In this formulation, the quantile level controls the degree of conservatism of the design. Starting with the premise that industrial applications often involve high-fidelity and time-consuming computational models, the proposed approach makes use of Kriging surrogate models (a.k.a. Gaussian process modeling). Thanks to the Kriging variance (a measure of the local accuracy of the surrogate), we derive a procedure with two stages of enrichment of the design of computer experiments (DoE) used to construct the surrogate model. The first stage globally reduces the Kriging epistemic uncertainty and adds points in the vicinity of the limit-state surfaces describing the system performance to be attained. The second stage locally checks, and if necessary, improves the accuracy of the quantiles estimated along the optimization iterations. Applications to three analytical examples and to the optimal design of a car body subsystem (minimal mass under mechanical safety constraints) show the accuracy and the remarkable efficiency brought by the proposed procedure.  相似文献

This paper presents a sampling-based RBDO method using surrogate models. The Dynamic Kriging (D-Kriging) method is used for surrogate models, and a stochastic sensitivity analysis is introduced to compute the sensitivities of probabilistic constraints with respect to independent or correlated random variables. For the sampling-based RBDO, which requires Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) to evaluate the probabilistic constraints and stochastic sensitivities, this paper proposes new efficiency and accuracy strategies such as a hyper-spherical local window for surrogate model generation, sample reuse, local window enlargement, filtering of constraints, and an adaptive initial point for the pattern search. To further improve computational efficiency of the sampling-based RBDO method for large-scale engineering problems, parallel computing is proposed as well. Once the D-Kriging accurately approximates the responses, there is no further approximation in the estimation of the probabilistic constraints and stochastic sensitivities, and thus the sampling-based RBDO can yield very accurate optimum design. In addition, newly proposed efficiency strategies as well as parallel computing help find the optimum design very efficiently. Numerical examples verify that the proposed sampling-based RBDO can find the optimum design more accurately than some existing methods. Also, the proposed method can find the optimum design more efficiently than some existing methods for low dimensional problems, and as efficient as some existing methods for high dimensional problems when the parallel computing is utilized.  相似文献

The sample distribution has a vital influence on the quality of a Kriging surrogate model, which may further influence the required cost or convergence of the surrogate model-based design and optimization problems. Adaptive sampling methods utilize the information from existing samples to reasonably allocate the sequential samples, which can generally build a more accurate Kriging surrogate model under the same computational budget. However, most of the existing adaptive sampling methods for the Kriging surrogate model are only available for single-output problems, and there are few studies on problems with multiple responses. In this paper, an adaptive sampling method based on Delaunay triangulation and technique for order preference by similarity to ideal solution (TOPSIS) is proposed for Kriging surrogate model with multiple outputs (mKMDT). In the proposed mKMDT, Delaunay triangulation is used to partition the design space into multiple triangle regions, whose area denotes the dispersion of the sample points. The prediction error at each triangle’s centroid represents the local approximation error. Specifically, three different strategies are developed when allocating weights to the area and the prediction error of each triangle with the entropy method and the TOPSIS method. The performance of the proposed method is illustrated through numerical examples with different numbers of outputs and a collision problem between the missile and the adapter. Results show that the proposed method can construct an accuracy surrogate model with few samples, which is useful for practical engineering design problems with multiple outputs.

The enhanced weighted simulation-based design method in conjunction with particle swarm optimization (PSO) is developed as a pseudo double-loop algorithm for accurate reliability-based design optimization (RBDO). According to this hybrid method, generated samples of weighed simulation method (WSM) are considered as initial population of the PSO. The proposed population is then employed to evaluate the safety level of each PSO swarm (design candidates) during movement. Using this strategy, there is no required to conduct new sampling for reliability assessment of design candidates (PSO swarms). Employing PSO as the search engine of RBDO and WSM as the reliability analyzer provide more accurate results with few samples and also increase the application range of traditional WSM. Besides, a shift strategy is also introduced to increase the capability of the WSM to investigate general RBDO problems including both deterministic and random design variables. Several examples are investigated to demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of the method. Results demonstrate the computational efficiency and superiority of the proposed method for practical engineering problems with highly nonlinear and implicit probabilistic constrains.  相似文献

Dynamic characteristics greatly influence the comprehensive performance of a structure. But they are rarely included as objectives in traditional robust optimization of structures. In this study, a robust optimization model including both means and standard deviations of dynamic characteristic indices in the objective and constraint functions is constructed for improving the structural dynamic characteristics and reducing their fluctuations under uncertainty. Adaptive Kriging models are employed for the efficient computation of dynamic characteristics. An intelligent resampling technology is proposed to save computational costs and accelerate convergence of Kriging models, which takes full advantage of the test points for precision verification, the sample points within the local region of the biggest relative maximum absolute error and the near-optimal point to improve the global and local precision of Krigings. The high efficiency of proposed intelligent resampling technology is demonstrated by a numerical example. Finally, an efficient algorithm integrating adaptive Kriging models, Monte Carlo (MC) method, constrained non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (CNSGA) is proposed to solve the robust optimization model of structural dynamic characteristics. Kriging models are interfaced with MC method to efficiently compute the fitness of individuals during CNSGA. The implementation of proposed methodology is explained in detail and highlighted by the robust optimization of a cone ring fixture with lots of circumferentially distributed holes in a large turbo generator aimed at moving its natural frequencies away from the exciting one. The comparison of the optimized design with the initial one demonstrates that the proposed methodology is feasible and applicable in engineering practice.  相似文献

This paper presents a new global optimization algorithm named MGOSIC to solve unconstrained expensive black-box optimization problems. In MGOSIC, three surrogate models Kriging, Radial Basis Function (RBF), and Quadratic Response Surfaces (QRS) are dynamically constructed, respectively. Additionally, a multi-point infill criterion is proposed to obtain new points in each cycle, where a score-based strategy is presented to mark cheap points generated by Latin hypercube sampling. According to their predictive values from the three surrogate models, the promising cheap points are assigned with different scores. In order to obtain the samples with diversity, a Max-Min approach is proposed to select promising sample points from the cheap point sets with higher scores. Simultaneously, the best solutions predicted by Kriging, RBF, and QRS are also recorded as supplementary samples, respectively. Once MGOSIC gets stuck in a local valley, the estimated mean square error of Kriging will be maximized to explore the sparsely sampled regions. Moreover, the whole optimization algorithm is carried out alternately in the global space and a reduced space. In summary, MGOSIC not only brings a new idea for multi-point sampling, but also builds a reasonable balance between exploitation and exploration. Finally, 19 mathematical benchmark cases and an engineering application of hydrofoil optimization are used to test MGOSIC. Furthermore, seven existing global optimization algorithms are also tested as contrast. The final results show that MGOSIC has high efficiency, strong stability, and better multi-point sampling capability in dealing with expensive black-box optimization problems.

Conventional reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) approaches require high computing costs. Among the existing RBDO methods, the single loop single vector approach (SLSV) converts the RBDO problem into a single loop deterministic optimization. Hence, it can efficiently reduce the design cost compared to other methods. However, this method has a weakness in that instability or inaccuracy in convergence can be increased according to the problem characteristics. It often happens when the performance function is highly nonlinear or concave. In this study, a novel method is proposed to overcome the problems. It is an SLSV method using the conjugate gradient that is calculated with the gradient directions at the most probable points (MPP) of the previous cycles. Mathematical examples and structural applications are solved to verify the proposed method. The numerical performances of the proposed method are compared with other RBDO methods such as the RIA, PMA, SORA and SLSV approaches. It is shown that the SLSV method using the conjugate gradient (SLSVCG) is not greatly influenced by problem characteristics and the convergence capability is quite superior. Also, the computational cost of the proposed method is significantly reduced and an excellent solution satisfying the specified reliability is obtained.  相似文献

Uncertainty quantification accuracy of system performance has an important influence on the results of reliability-based design optimization (RBDO). A new uncertain identification and quantification methodology is proposed considering the strong statistical variables, sparse variables, and interval variables simultaneously. Maximum likelihood function and Akaike information criterion (AIC) methods are used to identify the best-fitted distribution types and distribution parameters of sparse variables. The interval variables are represented with evidence theory. Finally, a unified uncertainty quantification framework considering the three types of uncertain design variables is put forward, and then the failure probability of system performance is quantified with belief and plausibility measures. The Kriging metamodel and random sampling method are used to reduce the computational complexity. Three examples are illustrated to verify the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.  相似文献

Metamodels are commonly used in reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) due to the enormously expensive computation cost of numerical simulations. However, for large-scale design optimization of automotive body structure, with the increasing number of design variable and enhanced nonlinearity degree of structural performance, polynomial response surface which is commonly used for vehicle design optimization often suffers exponentially increased computation burden and serious loss of approximation accuracy. In this paper, support vector regression, along with other four complex metamodeling techniques including moving least square, artificial neural network, radial basis function and Kriging, is investigated for approximating frontal crashworthiness performance which is one of the most highly nonlinear performances. It aims at testing support vector regression and providing advanced metamodeling technique for RBDO of automotive body structure. Approximation results are compared in both accuracy and computational efficiency. Based on the frontal crashworthiness example, it is found that support vector regression and moving least square are preferable techniques to approximate structural performances with good accuracy. But support vector regression is recommended for its computational efficiency and better approximation potential. Moreover, the ensemble of support vector regression, moving least square, Kriging and artificial neural network is an effective alternative and is proved, in the RBDO example for the lightweight design of front body structure, to outperform any other single metamodel. The remarkable predominance indicates that the ensemble of support vector regression, moving least square, Kriging and artificial neural network holds great potential in approximating highly nonlinear performances for RBDO of automotive body structure.  相似文献

Reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) aims at determination of the optimal design in the presence of uncertainty. The available Single-Loop approaches for RBDO are based on the First-Order Reliability Method (FORM) for the computation of the probability of failure, along with different approximations in order to avoid the expensive inner loop aiming at finding the Most Probable Point (MPP). However, the use of FORM in RBDO may not lead to sufficient accuracy depending on the degree of nonlinearity of the limit-state function. This is demonstrated for an extensively studied reliability-based design for vehicle crashworthiness problem solved in this paper, where all RBDO methods based on FORM strongly violates the probabilistic constraints. The Response Surface Single Loop (RSSL) method for RBDO is proposed based on the higher order probability computation for quadratic models previously presented by the authors. The RSSL-method bypasses the concept of an MPP and has high accuracy and efficiency. The method can solve problems with both constant and varying standard deviation of design variables and is particularly well suited for typical industrial applications where general quadratic response surface models can be used. If the quadratic response surface models of the deterministic constraints are valid in the whole region of interest, the method becomes a true single loop method with accuracy higher than traditional SORM. In other cases, quadratic response surface models are fitted to the deterministic constraints around the deterministic solution and the RBDO problem is solved using the proposed single loop method.  相似文献

For solution of reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) problems, single loop approach (SLA) shows high efficiency. Thus SLA is extensively used in RBDO. However, the iteration solution procedure by SLA is often oscillatory and non-convergent for RBDO with nonlinear performance function. This prevents the application of SLA to engineering design problems. In this paper, the chaotic single loop approach (CLSA) is proposed to achieve the convergence control of original iterative algorithm in SLA. The modification involves automated selection of the chaos control factor by solving a novel one-dimensional optimization model. Additionally, a new oscillation-checking method is constructed to detect the oscillation of iterative process of design variables. The computational capability of CLSA is demonstrated through five benchmark examples and one stiffened shell application. The comparison of numerical results indicates that CSLA is more efficient than the double loop approach and the decoupled approach. CSLA also solves the RBDO problems with highly nonlinear performance function and non-normal random variables stably.  相似文献

The reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) presents to be a systematic and powerful approach for process designs under uncertainties. The traditional double-loop methods for solving RBDO problems can be computationally inefficient because the inner reliability analysis loop has to be iteratively performed for each probabilistic constraint. To solve RBDOs in an alternative and more effective way, Deb et al. [1] proposed recently the use of evolutionary algorithms with an incorporated fastPMA. Since the imbedded fastPMA needs the gradient calculations and the initial guesses of the most probable points (MPPs), their proposed algorithm would encounter difficulties in dealing with non-differentiable constraints and the effectiveness could be degraded significantly as the initial guesses are far from the true MPPs. In this paper, a novel population-based evolutionary algorithm, named cell evolution method, is proposed to improve the computational efficiency and effectiveness of solving the RBDO problems. By using the proposed cell evolution method, a family of test cells is generated based on the target reliability index and with these reliability test cells the determination of the MPPs for probabilistic constraints becomes a simple parallel calculation task, without the needs of gradient calculations and any initial guesses. Having determined the MPPs, a modified real-coded genetic algorithm is applied to evolve these cells into a final one that satisfies all the constraints and has the best objective function value for the RBDO. Especially, the nucleus of the final cell contains the reliable solution to the RBDO problem. Illustrative examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability of the proposed cell evolution method in solving RBDOs. Simulation results reveal that the proposed cell evolution method outperforms comparative methods in both the computational efficiency and solution accuracy, especially for multi-modal RBDO problems.  相似文献

The efficiency and robustness of reliability techniques are important in reliability-based design optimization (RBDO). Commonly, advanced mean value (AMV) is utilized in reliability loop of RBDO but unstable solutions using AMV may be obtained for highly concave performance functions. Owing to the challenges of commonly reliability methods, the conjugate gradient analysis (CGA) is proposed as a robust methodology but it shows inefficient results for convex constraints. In this research, hybrid conjugate mean value (HCMV) method is proposed using sufficient condition for the enhancement of efficiency and robustness of RBDO. The CGA and AMV are dynamically utilized for simple solution of convex/concave constraints using sufficient descent criterion in HCMV. The HCMV is used to evaluate the convergence performances and is compared with numerous existing reliability methods through three reliability problems (two concave/convex mathematical examples and one applicable structure) and four RBDO problems. From the numerical results, the HCMV exhibited the better efficiency, and robustness compared to other studied formulations in reliability and RBDO problems.

In the reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) model, the mean values of uncertain system variables are usually applied as design variables, and the cost is optimized subject to prescribed probabilistic constraints as defined by a nonlinear mathematical programming problem. Therefore, a RBDO solution that reduces the structural weight in uncritical regions does not only provide an improved design but also a higher level of confidence in the design. In this paper, we present recent developments for the RBDO model relative to two points of view: reliability and optimization. Next, we develop several distributions for the hybrid method and the optimum safety factor methods (linear and nonlinear RBDO). Finally, we demonstrate the efficiency of our safety factor approach extended to nonlinear RBDO with application to a tri-material structure.  相似文献
