This work proposes an efficient combined treatment for the decontamination of a pesticide-containing wastewater resulting from phytopharmaceutical plastic containers washing, presenting a moderate organic load (COD = 1662-1960 mg O2 L−1; DOC = 513-696 mg C L−1), with a high biodegradable organic carbon fraction (81%; BOD5 = 1350-1600 mg O2 L−1) and a remaining recalcitrant organic carbon mainly due to pesticides. Nineteen pesticides were quantified by LC-MS/MS at concentrations between 0.02 and 45 mg L−1 (14-19% of DOC). The decontamination strategy involved a sequential three-step treatment: (a) biological oxidation process, leading to almost complete removal of the biodegradable organic carbon fraction; (b) solar photo-Fenton process using CPCs, enhancing the bio-treated wastewater biodegradability, mainly due to pesticides degradation into low-molecular-weight carboxylate anions; (c) and a final polishing step to remove the residual biodegradable organic carbon, using a biological oxidation process. Treatment performance was evaluated in terms of mineralization degree (DOC), pesticides content (LC-MS/MS), inorganic ions and low-molecular-weight carboxylate anions (IC) concentrations. The estimated phototreatment energy necessary to reach a biodegradable wastewater, considering pesticides and low-molecular-weight carboxylate anions concentrations, Zahn-Wellens test and BOD5/COD ratio, was only 2.3 kJUV L−1 (45 min of photo-Fenton at a constant solar UV power of 30 W m−2), consuming 16 mM of H2O2, which pointed to 52% mineralization and an abatement higher than 86% for 18 pesticides. The biological oxidation/solar photo-Fenton/biological oxidation treatment system achieved pesticide removals below the respective detection limits and 79% mineralization, leading to a COD value lower than 150 mg O2 L−1, which is in agreement with Portuguese discharge limits regarding water bodies.  相似文献

Biological removal of phenol from strong wastewaters using a novel MSBR   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this study, the performance of a moving-bed sequencing batch reactor (MSBR) that removes phenol from wastewater is presented. The effects of phenol concentration (50-3325 mg L−1), filling time (0-4 h) and aerating time (4-18 h) on the performance of the MSBR are given in terms of phenol and COD removal efficiencies. Moreover, the effect of the moving media on the overall performance of the reactor is also determined. The reactor can completely remove phenol and COD at inlet concentrations up to 3000 mg phenol L−1 (6780 mg COD L−1), which was the inhibition concentration, and with a 24-h cycle time. The filling time range tested here did not significantly affect phenol or COD removal. The optimum hydraulic retention time (HRT) for the MSBR is 40 h and the critical phenol loading rate is 83.4 g phenol m−3 h−1, which gives a phenol removal efficiency of 99%. The reactor can also withstand shock loads from slug feeding. The moving bed contribution to phenol and COD removal efficiencies was up to 28.1 and 34.7%, respectively, at the phenol loading rate of 83.4 g m−3 h−1. The findings of this investigation suggest that MSBR can be a robust and promising process for effectively treating wastewaters containing inhibitor or recalcitrant compounds in industrial settings.  相似文献

Anaerobic treatment is an attractive option for the biological treatment of municipal wastewater. In this study, municipal wastewater was anaerobically treated with a bench-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor at temperatures from 6 to 31 °C for 18 months to investigate total chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency, archaeal community structure, and dissolved methane (D-CH4) recovery efficiency. The COD removal efficiency was more than 50% in summer and below 40% in winter with no evolution of biogas. Analysis of the archaeal community structures of the granular sludge from the UASB using 16S rRNA gene-cloning indicated that after microorganisms had adapted to low temperatures, the archaeal community had a lower diversity and the relative abundance of acetoclastic methanogens decreased together with an increase in hydrogenotrophic methanogens. D-CH4, which was detected in the UASB effluent throughout the operation, could be collected with a degassing membrane. The ratio of the collection to recovery rates was 60% in summer and 100% in winter. For anaerobic treatment of municipal wastewater at lower temperatures, hydrogenotrophic methanogens play an important role in COD removal and D-CH4 can be collected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and avoid wastage of energy resources.  相似文献

The feasibility of low-temperature (7 °C) anaerobic digestion for the treatment of a trichloroethylene (TCE) contaminated wastewater was investigated. Two expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) bioreactors (R1 and R2) were employed for the mineralisation of a synthetic volatile fatty acid based wastewater at an initial organic loading rate (OLR) of 3 kg COD m−3 d−1, and an operating temperature of 15 °C. Successive reductions in OLR to 0.75 kg COD m−3 d−1, and operational temperature to 7 °C, resulted in stable bioreactor operation by day 417, with COD removal efficiency and biogas CH4 content ≥74%, for both bioreactors. Subsequently, the influent to R1 was supplemented with increasing concentrations (10, 20, 30 mg l−1) of TCE, while R2 acted as a control. At an influent TCE concentration of 30 mg l−1, although phase average TCE removal rates of 79% were recorded, a sustained decrease in R1 performance was observed, with COD removal of 6%, and % biogas CH4 of 3% recorded on days 595 and 607, respectively. Specific methanogenic activity (SMA) assays identified a general shift from acetate- to hydrogen-mediated methanogenesis in both R1 and R2 biomass, while toxicity assays confirmed an increased sensitivity of the acetoclastic community in R1 to TCE and dichloroethylene (DCE), which contributed to acetate accumulation. Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) analysis of the methanogenic community confirmed the dominance of hydrogenotrophic methanogens in both R1 and R2, representing 71-89% of the total methanogenic population, however acetoclastic Methanosaeta were the dominant organisms, based on 16S rRNA gene clone library analysis of reactor biomass. The greatest change in the bacterial community, as demonstrated by UPGMA analysis of DGGE banding profiles, was observed in R1 biomass between days 417 and 609, although 88% similarity was retained between these sampling points.  相似文献

Anaerobic wastewater treatment plants discharge dissolved methane, which is usually not recovered. To prevent emission of methane, which is a greenhouse gas, we utilized an encapsulated down-flow hanging sponge reactor as a post-treatment to biologically oxidize dissolved methane. Within 3 weeks after reactor start-up, methane removal efficiency of up to 95% was achieved with a methane removal rate of 0.8 kg COD m−3 day−1 at an HRT of 2 h. After increasing the methane-loading rate, the maximum methane removal rate reached 2.2 kg COD m−3 day−1 at an HRT of 0.5 h. On the other hand, only about 10% of influent ammonium was oxidized to nitrate during the first period, but as airflow was increased to 2.5 L day−1, nitrification efficiency increased to approximately 70%. However, the ammonia oxidation rate then decreased with an increase in the methane-loading rate. These results indicate that methane oxidation occurred preferentially over ammonium oxidation in the reactor. Cloning of the 16S rRNA and pmoA genes as well as phylogenetic and T-RFLP analyses revealed that type I methanotrophs were the dominant methane oxidizers, whereas type II methanotrophs were detected only in minor portion of the reactor.  相似文献

Soil aquifer treatment of artificial wastewater under saturated conditions   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A 2000 mm long saturated laboratory soil column was used to simulate soil aquifer treatment under saturated conditions to assess the removal of chemical and biochemical oxygen demand (COD and BOD), dissolved organic carbon (DOC), nitrogen and phosphate, using high strength artificial wastewater. The removal rates were determined under a combination of constant hydraulic loading rates (HLR) and variable COD concentrations as well as variable HLR under a constant COD. Within the range of COD concentrations considered (42 mg L−1-135 mg L−1) it was found that at fixed hydraulic loading rate, a decrease in the influent concentrations of dissolved organic carbon (DOC), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total nitrogen and phosphate improved their removal efficiencies. At the high COD concentrations applied residence times influenced the redox conditions in the soil column. Long residence times were detrimental to the removal process for COD, BOD and DOC as anoxic processes and sulphate reduction played an important role as electron acceptors. It was found that total COD mass loading within the range of 911 mg d−1-1780 mg d−1 applied as low COD wastewater infiltrated coupled with short residence times would provide better effluent quality than the same mass applied as a COD with higher concentration at long residence times. The opposite was true for organic nitrogen where relatively high concentrations coupled with long residence time gave better removal efficiency.  相似文献

A hybrid process comprising biological degradation in a vertical-flow constructed wetland (CW) and electrochemical oxidation over boron-doped diamond electrodes to decolorize, mineralize and detoxify a leachate from olive pomace processing (OPL) was investigated. Two alternative treatment schemes were compared: According to the first treatment scheme, OPL was treated by electrochemical oxidation followed by treatment in a constructed wetland pilot unit (CW-A). The second scheme comprised of treatment in a constructed wetland followed by electrochemical treatment (CW-B). The constructed wetlands units were planted with Phragmites australis (reeds) and were fed intermittently at organic loadings between 5 and 15 g COD m−2 d−1 and a residence time of 3 d. Electrochemical oxidation (EO) was performed for 360 min at 20 A.Treatment of OPL in the wetland at 15 g COD m−2 d−1 led to mean COD and color reduction of 86% and 77%, respectively; the wetland effluent with a COD of about 800 mg L−1 was polished electrochemically for 360 min after which the overall COD and color removal of the combined process (i.e. CW-B/EO) was around 95%, while the final effluent was not toxic against the marine bacteria Vibrio fischeri.Electrochemical oxidation of the original OPL at COD values between 6250 and 14 100 mg L−1 led to moderate COD and color reduction (i.e. less than 40%) through zero order kinetics. When this was coupled to constructed wetland post-treatment (i.e. EO/CW-A), the overall COD and color removal was 81% and 58%, respectively. The decreased efficiency may be assigned to the increased toxicity of the electrochemically treated effluent which was only partially removed in the natural treatment system.  相似文献

This study investigated the effect of the COD/SO42− ratio (4 and 1) and the sulfide concentration on the performance of thermophilic (55 °C) acidifying (pH 6) upflow anaerobic sludge bed reactors fed with sucrose at an organic loading rate of 4.5 g COD lreactor−1 day−1. Sulfate reduction efficiencies amounted to 65% and 25-35% for the COD/SO42− ratios of 4 and 1, respectively. Acidification was complete at all the tested conditions and the electron flow was similar at the two COD/SO42− ratios applied. The stepwise decrease of the sulfide concentrations in the reactors with a COD/SO42− ratio of 1 by N2 stripping caused an immediate stepwise increase in the sulfate reduction efficiencies, indicating a reversible inhibition by sulfide. The degree of reversibility was, however, affected by the growth conditions of the sludge. Acidifying sludge pre-grown at pH 6, at a COD/SO42− ratio of 9 and exposed for 150 days to 115 mg l−1 sulfide, showed a slower recovery from the sulfide inhibition than a freshly harvested sludge from a full scale treatment plant (pH 7 and COD/SO42−=9.5) exposed for a 70 days to 200 mg l−1 sulfide. In the latter case, the decrease of the sulfide concentration from 200 to 45 mg l−1 (35 mg l−1 undissociated sulfide) by N2 stripping caused an immediate increase of the sulfate reduction efficiency from 35% to 96%.  相似文献

Aerobic granulation of activated sludge was achieved in a pilot-scale sequencing batch reactor (SBR) for the treatment of low-strength municipal wastewater (<200 mg L−1 of COD, chemical oxygen demand). The volume exchange ratio and settling time of an SBR were found to be two key factors in the granulation of activated sludge grown on the low-strength municipal wastewater. After operation of 300 days, the mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) concentration in the SBR reached 9.5 g L−1 and consisted of approximate 85% granular sludge. The average total COD removal efficiency kept at 90% and NH4+-N was almost completely depleted (∼95%) after the formation of aerobic granules. The granules (with a diameter over 0.212 mm) had a diameter ranging from 0.2 to 0.8 mm and had good settling ability with a settling velocity of 18-40 m h−1. Three bacterial morphologies of rod, coccus and filament coexisted in the granules. Mathematical modeling was performed to get insight into this pilot-scale granule-based reactor. The modified IWA activated sludge model No 3 (ASM3) was able to adequately describe the pilot-scale SBR dynamics during its cyclic operation.  相似文献

Four expanded granular sludge bed (EGSB) bioreactors were seeded with a mesophilically-grown granular sludge and operated in duplicate for mesophilic (37 °C; R1 & R2) and low- (15°; R3 & R4) temperature treatment of a synthetic volatile fatty acid (VFA) based wastewater (3 kg COD m−3 d−1) with one of each pair (R1 & R3) supplemented with increasing concentrations of trichloroethylene (TCE; 10, 20, 40, 60 mg l−1) and one acting as a control. Bioreactor performance was evaluated by % COD removal efficiency and % biogas methane (CH4) content. Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) was used to investigate the methanogenic community composition and dynamics in the bioreactors during the trial, while specific methanogenic activity (SMA) and toxicity assays were utilized to investigate the activity and TCE/dichloroethylene (DCE) toxicity thresholds of key trophic groups, respectively. At both 37 °C and 15 °C, TCE levels of 60 mg l−1 resulted in the decline of % COD removal efficiencies to 29% (Day 235) and 37% (Day 238), respectively, and in % biogas CH4 to 54% (Day 235) and 5% (Day 238), respectively. Despite the inhibitory effect of TCE on the anaerobic digestion process, the main drivers influencing methanogenic community development, as determined by qPCR and Non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis, were (i) wastewater composition and (ii) operating temperature. At the apical TCE concentration both SMA and qPCR of methanogenic archaea suggested that acetoclastic methanogens were somewhat inhibited by the presence of TCE and/or its degradation derivatives, while competition by dechlorinating organisms may have limited the availability of H2 for hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis. In addition, there appeared to be an inverse correlation between SMA levels and TCE tolerance, a finding that was supported by the analysis of the inhibitory effect of TCE on two additional biomass sources. The results indicate that low-temperature anaerobic digestion is a feasible approach for the treatment of TCE-containing wastewater.  相似文献

Performance of high-loaded ANAMMOX UASB reactors containing granular sludge   总被引:13,自引:0,他引:13
The performance of high-loaded anaerobic ammonium oxidizing (ANAMMOX) upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactors was investigated. Two ANAMMOX reactors (R1 with and R2 without effluent recycling, respectively) were fed with relatively low nitrite concentration of 240 mg-N L−1 with subsequent progressive increase in the nitrogen loading rate (NLR) by shortening the hydraulic retention time (HRT) till the end of the experiment. A super high-rate performance with nitrogen removal rate (NRR) of 74.3-76.7 kg-N m−3 day−1 was accomplished in the lab-scale ANAMMOX UASB reactors, which was 3 times of the highest reported value. The biomass concentrations in the reactors were as high as 42.0-57.7 g-VSS L−1 with the specific ANAMMOX activity (SAA) approaching to 5.6 kg-N kg-VSS−1 day−1. The high SAA and high biomass concentration were regarded as the key factors for the super high-rate performance. ANAMMOX granules were observed in the reactors with settling velocities of 73-88 m h−1. The ANAMMOX granules were found to contain a plenty of extracellular polymers (ECPs) such as 71.8-112.1 mg g-VSS−1 of polysaccharides (PS) and 164.4-298.2 mg g-VSS−1 of proteins (PN). High content of hemachrome (6.8-10.3 μmol g-VSS−1) was detected in the ANAMMOX granules, which is supposed to be attributed to their unique carmine color.  相似文献

This study focuses on the removal of 32 selected micropollutants (pharmaceuticals, corrosion inhibitors and biocides/pesticides) found in an effluent coming from a municipal wastewater treatment plant (MWTP) based on activated sludge. Dissolved organic matter was present, with an initial total organic carbon of 15.9 mg L−1, and a real global quantity of micropollutants of 29.5 μg L−1. The treatments tested on the micropollutants removal were: UV-light emitting at 254 nm (UV254) alone, dark Fenton (Fe2+,3+/H2O2) and photo-Fenton (Fe2+,3+/H2O2/light). Different irradiation sources were used for the photo-Fenton experiences: UV254 and simulated sunlight. Iron and H2O2 concentrations were also changed in photo-Fenton experiences in order to evaluate its influence on the degradation. All the experiments were developed at natural pH, near neutral. Photo-Fenton treatments employing UV254, 50 mg L−1 of H2O2, with and without adding iron (5 mg L−1 of Fe2+ added or 1.48 mg L−1 of total iron already present) gave the best results. Global percentages of micropollutants removal achieved were 98 and a 97% respectively, after 30 min of treatments. As the H2O2 concentration increased (10, 25 and 50 mg L−1), best degradations were observed. UV254, Fenton, and photo-Fenton under simulated sunlight gave less promising results with lower percentages of removal. The highlight of this paper is to point out the possibility of the micropollutants degradation in spite the presence of DOM in much higher concentrations.  相似文献

Biological wastewater treatment by aerobic granular sludge biofilms offers the possibility to combine carbon (COD), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) removal in a single reactor. Since denitrification can be affected by suboptimal dissolved oxygen concentrations (DO) and limited availability of COD, different aeration strategies and COD loads were tested to improve N- and P-removal in granular sludge systems. Aeration strategies promoting alternating nitrification and denitrification (AND) were studied to improve reactor efficiencies in comparison with more classical simultaneous nitrification–denitrification (SND) strategies. With nutrient loading rates of 1.6 gCOD L−1 d−1, 0.2 gN L−1 d−1, and 0.08 gP L−1 d−1, and SND aeration strategies, N-removal was limited to 62.3 ± 3.4%. Higher COD loads markedly improved N-removal showing that denitrification was limited by COD. AND strategies were more efficient than SND strategies. Alternating high and low DO phases during the aeration phase increased N-removal to 71.2 ± 5.6% with a COD loading rate of 1.6 gCOD L−1 d−1. Periods of low DO were presumably favorable to denitrifying P-removal saving COD necessary for heterotrophic N-removal. Intermittent aeration with anoxic periods without mixing between the aeration pulses was even more favorable to N-removal, resulting in 78.3 ± 2.9% N-removal with the lowest COD loading rate tested. P-removal was under all tested conditions between 88 and 98%, and was negatively correlated with the concentration of nitrite and nitrate in the effluent (r = −0.74, p < 0.01). With low COD loading rates, important emissions of undesired N2O gas were observed and a total of 7–9% of N left the reactor as N2O. However, N2O emissions significantly decreased with higher COD loads under AND conditions.  相似文献

Anaerobic digestion, microbial community structure and kinetics were studied in a biphasic continuously fed, upflow anaerobic fixed film reactor treating high strength distillery wastewater. Treatment efficiency of the bioreactor was investigated at different hydraulic retention times (HRT) and organic loading rates (OLR 5-20 kg COD m−3 d−1). Applying the modified Stover-Kincannon model to the reactor, the maximum removal rate constant (Umax) and saturation value constant (KB) were found to be 2 kg m−3 d−1 and 1.69 kg m−3 d−1 respectively. Bacterial community structures of acidogenic and methanogenic reactors were assessed using culture-independent analyses. Sequencing of 16S rRNA genes exhibited a total of 123 distinct operational taxonomic units (OTUs) comprising 49 from acidogenic reactor and 74 (28 of eubacteria and 46 of archaea) from methanogenic reactor. The findings reveal the role of Lactobacillus sp. (Firmicutes) as dominant acid producing organisms in acidogenic reactor and Methanoculleus sp. (Euryarchaeotes) as foremost methanogens in methanogenic reactor.  相似文献

Phenol is a common wastewater contaminant from various industrial processes, including petrochemical refineries and chemical compounds production. Due to its toxicity to microbial activity, it can affect the efficiency of biological wastewater treatment processes. In this study, the efficiency of an Anaerobic Sequencing Batch Reactor (ASBR) fed with increasing phenol concentrations (from 120 to 1200 mg L−1) was assessed and the relationship between phenol degradation capacity and the microbial community structure was evaluated. Up to a feeding concentration of 800 mg L−1, the initial degradation rate steadily increased with phenol concentration (up to 180 mg L−1 d−1) and the elimination capacity remained relatively constant around 27 mg phenol removed?gVSS−1 d−1. Operation at higher concentrations (1200 mg L−1) resulted in a still efficient but slower process: the elimination capacity and the initial degradation rate decreased to, respectively, 11 mg phenol removed?gVSS−1 d−1 and 154 mg L−1 d−1. As revealed by Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis (DGGE) analysis, the increase of phenol concentration induced level-dependent structural modifications of the community composition which suggest an adaptation process. The increase of phenol concentration from 120 to 800 mg L−1 had little effect on the community structure, while it involved drastic structural changes when increasing from 800 to 1200 mg L−1, including a strong community structure shift, suggesting the specialization of the community through the emergence and selection of most adapted phylotypes. The thresholds of structural and functional disturbances were similar, suggesting the correlation of degradation performance and community structure. The Canonical Correspondence Analysis (CCA) confirmed that the ASBR functional performance was essentially driven by specific community traits. Under the highest feeding concentration, the most abundant ribotype probably involved in successful phenol degradation at 1200 mg L−1 was affiliated to the Anaerolineaceae family.  相似文献

We studied the phosphorus (P) binding capacity of Ca-rich alkaline filter material - hydrated oil shale ash (i.e. hydrated ash) in two onsite pilot-scale experiments (with subsurface flow filters) in Estonia: one using pre-treated municipal wastewater with total phosphorus (TP) concentration of 0.13-17.0 mg L−1 over a period of 6 months, another using pre-treated landfill leachate (median TP 3.4 mg L−1) for a total of 12 months. The results show efficient P removal (median removal of phosphates 99%) in horizontal flow (HF) filters at both sites regardless of variable concentrations of several inhibitors. The P removal efficiency of the hydrated ash increases with increasing P loading, suggesting direct precipitation of Ca-phosphate phases rather than an adsorption mechanism. Changes in the composition of the hydrated ash suggest a significant increase in P concentration in all filters (e.g. from 489.5 mg kg−1 in initial ash to 664.9 mg kg−1 in the HF filter after one year in operation), whereas almost all TP was removed from the inflow leachate (R2 = 0.99). Efficiency was high throughout the experiments (median outflow from HF hydrated ash filters 0.05-0.50 mg L−1), and P accumulation did not show any signs of saturation.  相似文献

Landfill leachate with a low BOD/COD ratio was electrochemically oxidized by means of a boron-doped diamond anode. In addition to organic matter removal, this study addressed the issue of formation of both chlorinated organic compounds and nitrate ions as a result of organic matter and ammonia and/or organic nitrogen electro-oxidation in the presence of chloride ions. A factorial design methodology was implemented to evaluate the statistically important operating variables: treatment time (1-4 h), pH (5-8), current intensity (6.3-8.4 A) and addition of chloride (2500-4500 mg L−1). The process was evaluated on COD, total nitrogen (TN) and colour removal, as well as on the formation of nitrate, nitrite and chlorinated organics. Of the four variables studied, treatment time and pH had a considerable influence on COD and colour removal. On the contrary, none of the variables had a significant effect on the elimination of TN for which an average removal of 61 mg L−1 was obtained. The studied variables exhibited different effects on the four groups of organo-chlorinated compounds considered in this study, namely trihalomethanes (THMs), haloacetonitriles (HANs), haloketons (HKs) and 1,2-dichloroethane (DCA). Further analysis at more intense conditions, i.e. current intensity up to 18 A and reaction time up to 8 h revealed that high levels of decolourization (84%) could be achieved followed by low COD (51%) and ammonia (32%) removals. Apart from DCA, the concentration of chlorinated organics increased continuously with treatment time reaching values as high as 1.9 mg L−1, 753 μg L−1 and 431 μg L−1 of THMs, HANs and HKs, respectively.  相似文献

The treatment efficiency and membrane performance of a granular and suspended growth anaerobic membrane bioreactor (G-AnMBR and AnMBR respectively) were compared and evaluated. Both anaerobic MBRs were operated in parallel during 250 days with low strength wastewater and under UK weather conditions. Both systems presented COD and BOD removal efficiencies of 80–95% and >90% respectively. Effluent BOD remained between 5 and 15 mgBOD L−1 through the experimental period while effluent COD increased from 25 mg L−1 to 75 mg L−1 as temperature decreased from 25 °C to 10 °C respectively indicating the production of non biodegradable organics at lower temperatures. Although similar levels of low molecular weight organics were present in the sludge supernatant, recycling of the mixed liquor from the membrane tank to the bioreactor at a low upflow velocity enhanced interception of solids in the sludge bed of the G-AnMBR limiting the solid and colloidal load to the membrane as compared to the suspended system. Results from flux step test showed that critical flux increased from 4 to 13 L m−2 h−1 and from 3 to 5 L m−2 h−1 with gas sparging intensities varying from 0.007 m s−1 to 0.041. Additional long term trials in which the effect of gas sparging rate and backwashing efficiency were assessed confirmed the lower fouling propensity of the G-AnMBR.  相似文献

The effect of pre-acidification on anaerobic granule bed processes treating brewery wastewater was the focus of a comparison study employing two configurations, (a) a single stage upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) and (b) an upflow acidification reactor in series with a methanogenic UASB. The pre-acidification reactor achieved 20±4% SCOD removal and 0.08±0.003 L of methane produced per gram of SCOD removal at a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 0.75–4 h. Butyric acid was not detected and short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) were mainly acetic and propionic acids. The acidification ratio was about 0.42±0.02 g SCFAs as COD/g of influent COD.

Both systems’ critical loading rate to achieve 80% COD removal was established at 34–39 kg COD/m3 of total sludge bed volume per day. SCOD removal efficiency of 90±3% was achieved by both systems at an organic loading rate of 25±1 kg COD/m3 of total sludge bed volume per day, indicating that the installation of an acidification reactor had no effect in terms of the maximum granular activity, biomass granulation and the settleability of granules. At an organic loading rate of 67 kg COD/m3 of total sludge bed volume per day at an HRT of 1 h, the series system outperformed the single UASB by a removal of 62 compared to 57%.  相似文献

Flow-through reactors with manganese oxides were examined for their capacity to remove 17α-ethinylestradiol (EE2) at μg L−1 and ng L−1 range from synthetic wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) effluent. The mineral MnO2 reactors removed 93% at a volumetric loading rate (BV) of 5 μg EE2 L−1 d−1 and from a BV of 40 μg EE2 L−1 d−1 on, these reactors showed 75% EE2 removal. With the biologically produced manganese oxides, only 57% EE2 was removed at 40 μg EE2 L−1 d−1. EE2 removal in the ng L−1 range was 84%. The ammonium present in the influent (10 mg N L−1) was nitrified and ammonia-oxidizing bacteria (AOB) were found to be of prime importance for the degradation of EE2. Remarkably, EE2 removal by AOB continued for a period of 4 months after depleting NH4+ in the influent. EE2 removal by manganese-oxidizing bacteria was inhibited by NH4+. These results indicate that the metabolic properties of nitrifiers can be employed to polish water containing EE2 based estrogenic activity.  相似文献
