A novel bismaleimide, 2,2′‐dimethyl‐4,4′‐bis(4‐maleimidophenoxy)biphenyl, containing noncoplanar 2,2′‐dimethylbiphenylene and flexible ether units in the polymer backbone was synthesized from 2,2′‐dimethyl‐4,4′‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)biphenyl with maleic anhydride. The bismaleimide was reacted with 11 diamines using m‐cresol as a solvent and glacial acetic acid as a catalyst to produce novel polyaspartimides. Polymers were identified by elemental analysis and infrared spectroscopy, and characterized by solubility test, X‐ray diffraction, and thermal analysis (differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis). The inherent viscosities of the polymers varied from 0.22 to 0.48 dL g−1 in concentration of 1.0 g dL−1 of N,N‐dimethylformamide. All polymers are soluble in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N,N‐dimethylformamide, dimethylsulfoxide, pyridine, m‐cresol, and tetrahydrofuran. The polymers, except PASI‐4, had moderate glass transition temperature in the range of 188°–226°C and good thermo‐oxidative stability, losing 10% mass in the range of 375°–426°C in air and 357°–415°C in nitrogen. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of new aromatic poly(amide–imide)s (PAIs) was synthesized by triphenyl phosphite‐activated polycondensation of the diimide–diacid, 1,4‐bis(trimellitimido)‐2,3,5,6‐tetramethylbenzene (I), with various aromatic diamines in a medium consisting of N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), pyridine, and calcium chloride. The PAIs had inherent viscosities of 0.82–2.43 dL/g. The diimide–diacid monomer (I) was prepared from 2,3,5,6‐tetramethyl‐p‐phenylenediamine with trimellitic anhydride (TMA). Most of the resulting polymers showed an amorphous nature and were readily soluble in a variety of organic solvents including NMP, N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc), and N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF). Transparent, flexible, and tough films of these polymers could be cast from DMAc solutions. Their cast films had tensile strengths ranging from 80 to 95 MPa, elongation at break from 10 to 45%, and initial modulus from 2.01 to 2.50 GPa. The 10% weight loss temperatures of these polymers were above 510°C in nitrogen. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 78: 1162–1170, 2000  相似文献

3,4‐Di‐(2′‐hydroxyethoxy)‐4′‐nitrostilbene (2) was prepared by the reaction of 2‐iodoethanol with 3,4‐dihydroxy‐4′‐nitrostilbene. Diol 2 was condensed with 2,4‐toluenediisocyanate, 3,3′‐dimethoxy‐4,4′‐biphenylenediisocyanate and 1,6‐hexamethylenediisocyanate to yield novel Y‐type polyurethanes 3–5 containing dioxynitrostilbene as a non‐linear optical (NLO)‐chromophore. Polymers 3–5 were soluble in common organic solvents, such as acetone and DMF. These polymers showed thermal stability up to 280 °C in TGA thermograms with Tg values in the range of 100–143 °C in DSC thermograms. The approximate lengths of aligned NLO‐chromophores of the polymers estimated from AFM images were around 2 nm. The SHG coefficients (d33) of poled polymer films were around 4.5 × 10?8 esu. Poled polymer films had improved temporal and long‐term thermal stability owing to the hydrogen bonding of urethane linkage and the main‐chain character of the polymer structure, which are acceptable for NLO device applications. A new diamine 5,5′‐bis[4‐(4‐aminophenoxy)phenyl]‐hexahydro‐4,7‐methanoindan ( 3 ) was prepared through the nucleophilic displacement of 5,5′‐bis(4‐hydroxylphenyl)‐hexahydro‐4,7‐methanoindan ( 1 ) with p‐halonitrobenzene in the presence of K2CO3 in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF), followed by catalytic reduction with hydrazine and Pd/C in ethanol. A series of new polyamides were synthesized by the direct polycondensation of diamine 3 with various aromatic dicarboxylic acids. The polymers were obtained in quantitative yields with inherent viscosities of 0.76–1.02 dl g−1. All the polymers were soluble in aprotic dipolar solvents such as N,N‐dimethylacetamide (DMAc) and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (NMP), and could be solution cast into transparent, flexible and tough films. The glass transition temperatures of the polyamides were in the range 245–282 °C; their 10% weight loss temperatures were above 468 °C in nitrogen and above 465 °C in air. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A new diimide–diacid monomer, N,N′‐bis(4‐carboxyphenyl)‐4,4′‐oxydiphthalimide (I), was prepared by azeotropic condensation of 4,4′‐oxydiphthalic anhydride (ODPA) and p‐aminobenzoic acid (p‐ABA) at a 1:2 molar ratio in a polar solvent mixed with toluene. A series of poly(amide–imide)s (PAI, IIIa–m) was synthesized from the diimide–diacid I (or I′, diacid chloride of I) and various aromatic diamines by direct polycondensation (or low temperature polycondensation) using triphenyl phosphite and pyridine as condensing agents. It was found that only IIIk–m having a meta‐structure at two terminals of the diamine could afford good quality, creasable films by solution‐casting; other PAIs III using diamine with para‐linkage at terminals were insoluble and crystalline; though IIIg–i contained the soluble group of the diamine moieties, their solvent‐cast films were brittle. In order to improve their to solubility and film quality, copoly(amide–imide)s (Co‐PAIs) based on I and mixtures of p‐ABA and aromatic diamines were synthesized. When on equimolar of p‐ABA (m = 1) was mixed, most of Co‐PAIs IV had improved solubility and high inherent viscosities in the range 0.9–1.5 dl g?1; however, their films were still brittle. With m = 3, series V was obtained, and all members exhibited high toughness. The solubility, film‐forming ability, crystallinity, and thermal properties of the resultant poly(amide–imide)s were investigated. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Methyl 3,4‐di‐(2′‐hydroxyethoxy)benzylidenecyanoacetate (3) was prepared by hydrolysis of methyl 3,4‐di‐(2′‐vinyloxyethoxy)benzylidenecyanoacetate (2). Diol 3 was condensed with 2,4‐toluenediisocyanate, 3,3′‐dimethoxy‐4,4′‐biphenylenediisocyanate, and 1,6‐hexamethylenediisocyanate to yield polyurethanes 4, 5 and 6 containing the non‐linear optical (NLO) chromophore 3,4‐dioxybenzylidenecyanoacetate. The resulting polyurethanes 4–6 were soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and DMF. Tg values of the polymers obtained from DSC thermograms were in the range 80–102 °C. Polymers 4–6 showed thermal stability up to 300 °C in TGA thermograms, and electro‐optic coefficients (r33) of the poled polymer films were in the range 10–12 pm V?1 at 633 nm, which are acceptable for NLO device applications. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A new diacid containing optically active functional groups, N,N′‐(4,4′‐diphthaloyl)‐bis‐L ‐leucine diacid ( 3 ), was synthesized and used in a preparation of a series of poly(amide‐imide)s (PAIs) by direct polycondensation with various aromatic diamines in N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone (NMP). All polymers derived from diacid ( 3 ) were highly organosoluble in the solvents like N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidinone, N,N‐dimethylacetamide, N,N‐dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, tetrahydrofuran, γ‐butyrolactone, cyclohexanone, and chloroform at room temperature or upon heating. Inherent viscosities of the PAIs were found to range between 0.34 and 0.61·dL g?1. All the PAIs afforded flexible and tough films. The glass‐transition temperatures of these PAIs were recorded between 212 and 237°C by differential scanning calorimetry, and the 10% weight loss temperatures were ranging from 372 to 393°C and 336–372°C under nitrogen and air, respectively. The polyimide films had a tensile strength in the range of 63–88 MPa and a tensile modulus in the range of 1.2–1.7 GPa. Optically active PAIs exhibited specific rotations in the range of ?10.58° to ?38.70°. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 2007  相似文献

2,4‐Di‐(2′,2′‐dicyanovinyl)‐1‐(2′‐vinyloxyethoxy)benzene and 2,4‐di‐(2′‐carbomethoxy‐2′‐cyanovinyl)‐1‐(2′‐vinyloxyethoxy)benzene were prepared by condensation of 4‐(2′‐vinyloxyethoxy)isophthaldehyde with malononitrile and methyl cyanoacetate, respectively. The two vinyl monomers were polymerized with boron trifluoride etherate as a cationic initiator to yield poly(vinyl ether)s containing two oxybenzylidenemalononitrile and oxybenzylidenecyanoacetate groups, which are effective chromophores for second‐order nonlinear optical applications. These polymers were soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and dimethyl sulforide. They showed thermal stabilities up to 300 °C from thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), with differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) thermograms giving Tg values in the range 73–87 °C. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficients (d33) of poled polymer films were around 1.8 × 10?9 esu, and these polymers showed good long‐term thermal stability for 60 days at room temperature, which is acceptable for nonlinear optical (NLO) device applications. Eight new flame‐retardant poly(amide‐imide)s with high inherent viscosities containing phosphine oxide moieties in main chain were synthesized from the polycondensation reaction of N,N′‐(3,3′‐diphenylphenylphosphine oxide) bistrimellitimide diacid chloride 7, with eight ;aromatic diamine 8a–h by two different methods such as solution and microwave‐assisted polycondensation. Results showed that the microwave‐assisted polycondensation by using a domestic microwave oven proceeded rapidly, compared with solution polycondensation and were completed within about 10–12 min. The resulting poly(amide‐imide)s 9a–h showed high thermal stability and flame‐retardant properties. All of the obtained polymers were fully characterized by means of elemental analysis, viscosity measurements, solubility test, and FTIR spectroscopy. Thermal properties of the PAIs 9a–h were investigated by using thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA), derivative thermogravimetric analysis (DTG), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Char yield measurements at 600°C demonstrated that incorporating phosphine oxide moieties in polymer backbone markedly improves their flame retardancy. All of the earlier polymers were soluble at room temperature in various organic solvents such as NMP, DMF, DMSO, DMAc, and concentrated sulfuric acid. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Water soluble diamine amic acids (DAAs) were synthesized by reacting aliphatic diamines with pyromellitic dianhydride. Poly(amide–amic acid)s (PAAs) were prepared by interfacial polycondensation of DAAs in aqueous sodium hydroxide solution with isophthaloyl chloride in dichloromethane. Poly(amide–imide)s (PAIs) containing alternating (amide–amide)–(imide–imide) sequences were obtained by thermal cycloimidization of the PAA films at 175°C for 4 h in a forced air woven. The PAIs were readily soluble in polar aprotic solvents such as dimethylformamide, dimethylacetamide, dimethylsulfoxide, and N‐methyl‐2‐pyrrolidone. The inherent viscosities of the polymers are in the range of 0.97–1.7 dL/g. The polymers were characterized by IR, 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). Thin film composite membranes containing PAA ultrathin barrier layer were prepared by in situ interfacial polycondensation of DAA in water with trimesoyl chloride or isophthaloyl chloride in hexane on the surface of a porous polysulfone membrane. The membranes were characterized for water permeability and for the separation of NaCl and Na2SO4. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 75: 1721–1727, 2000  相似文献

A new thioether-bridged diimide-diacid (DIDA) monomer was synthesized from the condensation of 5,5′-thiobis(2-amino-4-methyl-thiazole) (DA) and trimellitic anhydride at 1 : 2 molar ratio. A series of novel organic-soluble poly(amide imide)s (PAIs) bearing flexible thioether linkages and heteroaromatic thiazole groups were synthesized from DIDA with various commercially available aromatic diamines (1–5) via a direct polycondensation method with triphenyl phosphite and pyridine. The resulting polymers were obtained in high yields and possessed inherent viscosities in the range of 0.47–0.91 dL g–1. All of the polymers were amorphous in nature, showed good solubility and could be easily dissolved in amide-type polar aprotic solvents (e.g., N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone, dimethyl sulfoxide, and N,N-dimethylacetamide), and even dissolved in less polar solvents (e.g., pyridine and tetrahydrofuran). They showed excellent thermal stability with glass transition temperatures between 233–269°C and 10% weight loss temperatures in excess of 480°C in nitrogen and 450°C in air atmosphere. The flexible structure endowed the PAI films with good optical transparency. The optical transmittances of the PAI films at 450 nm were higher than 80% for the thickness of approximately 10 μm. Moreover, the thiazole moieties and flexible thioether linkages in the molecular chains of the PAIs provided them with high refractive indices of 1.7329–1.7509 and low birefringences of 0.0065–0.0098. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Four series of aromatic polyimides (PIs V–VIII) composed of biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydrides (BPDAs) and aromatic diamines bearing alkylene spacers were prepared by two methods. Most polymers could be readily prepared in a one‐step method for the combination of a‐BPDA with α,ω‐bis(3‐aminophenoxy)alkanes, a‐BPDA with α,ω‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)alkanes, and s‐BPDA with α,ω‐bis(3‐aminophenoxy)alkanes. However, the polymerization of s‐BPDA with α,ω‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)alkanes gave powders. On the other hand, all four monomer combinations afforded the desired polyamic acid solution in a two‐step method. These polymer solutions could be cast into tough and flexible films, which were characterized by their inherent viscosity, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, and dynamic mechanical spectrometry measurements. The glass transition temperatures (Tgs) of the polymers were in the range of 110–240°C, but they were not clearly defined for PIs VIII and VI. The 5% weight loss temperatures were around 450°C for all prepared PIs. For PI VIII an “odd–even” behavior of the tensile properties of the films was detected, corresponding to the reported behavior of the melting temperatures. © 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A series of new alternative poly(amide–imide)s (PAIs, IIIa–j ) was synthesized by the direct polycondensation of 1,4‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)naphthalene (1,4‐BAPON) with various aromatic diimide–diacids. These polymers were obtained in quantitative yields with inherent viscosities of 0.71–1.03 dL/g. Except for IIIa, most of the polymers were soluble in aprotic polar solvents such as NMP, DMAc, DMF, and DMSO and could be solution‐cast into transparent, flexible, and tough films. The glass transition temperatures of these PAIs were in the range of 235–280°C. Thermogravimetric analyses established that these polymers were fairly stable up to 450°C, and 10% weight loss temperatures were recorded in the range of 520–569°C under nitrogen and 506–566°C under an air atmosphere. Compared with the PAIs with the 1,4‐bis(4‐aminophenoxy)benzene structure (series IV), the solubility of series III was better than that of series IV. Series III also exhibited lower crystallinity and better processability than those of series IV. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 77: 217–225, 2000  相似文献

3,4‐Di‐(2′‐hydroxyethoxy)‐4′‐nitrostilbene was prepared and condensed with terephthaloyl chloride, adipoyl chloride, and sebacoyl chloride to yield novel Y‐type polyesters containing NLO‐chromophore dioxynitrostilbenyl groups, which constituted parts of the polymer backbone. Polymers were found soluble in common organic solvents such as acetone and N,N‐dimethylformamide. They showed thermal stability up to 300 °C in thermogravimetric analysis with glass‐transition temperatures obtained from differential scanning calorimetry in the range 110–152 °C. The second harmonic generation (SHG) coefficients (d33) of poled polymer films at a 1064 cm?1 fundamental wavelength were around 3.51 × 10?8 esu. The dipole alignment exhibited high thermal stability even at 10 °C higher than the glass‐transition temperature, and there was no SHG decay below 120 °C for one of these polymers due to the partial main‐chain character of polymer structure, which was acceptable for NLO device applications. Four new diimide-dicarboxylic acids (I–IV) were prepared by condensation of s- or a-BPDA with para- or meta-aminobenzoic acid. A series of aromatic poly(amide-imide)s containing these diimide-dicarboxylic units was prepared by three methods: (1) acid chloride method, (2) triphenylphosphite method, and (3) one-pot method.
