The contact angle of a saturated aqueous surfactant solution on the precipitate of that surfactant was measured by using the sessile drop method. The sodium and calcium salts of alkyl sulfates (C12, C14, and C18) had advancing contact angles higher than those of alkyl trimethylammonium bromides (C14, C16, and C18). The measured advancing contact angles for several surfactant solutions did not substantially change with varying surfactant/counterion ratios; therefore, the precipitating counterion concentration (e.g., water hardness) had little effect on the wettability. The contact angles of fatty acid (C12 and C16) solutions did not show any dependence on pH between a pH of 4 and 10. The contact angles of saturated calcium dodecanoate (CaC12) solutions containing a second subsaturated surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate: NaDS) decreased with increasing NaDS concentrations until reaching the critical micelle concentration of the surfactant mixture. These results show that the second suractant can act as a wetting agent in this saturated surfactant system. Application of Young’s equation to contact angles showed that the solid/liquid surface tension can change substantially with surfactant concentration and be important in addition to the liquid/vapor surface tension in reducing contact angles. Application of the Zisman equation results in a “critical” surface tension for the CaC12 or soap scum of 25.5 mN/m, which is comparable to difluoroethene.  相似文献

Lipid and fatty acid levels in the edible flesh of 17 freshwater fish from Brazil’s southern region were determined. Analyses of fatty acid methyl esters were performed by gas chromatography. Palmitic acid (C16:0) was the predominant saturated fatty acid, accounting for 50–70% of total saturated acids. Oleic acid (C18:1θ9) was the most abundant monounsaturated fatty acid. Linoleic acid (C18:2θ6), linolenic acid (C18:3θ3), and docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6θ3) were the predominant polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA). The data revealed that species such as truta, barbado, and corvina were good sources of eicosapentaenoic acid (C20:5θ3) and docosahexaenoic acid (C22:6θ3), and that most freshwater fish examined were good sources of PUFA θ3.  相似文献

The contact angles of saturated calcium dodecanoate (CaC12) solutions containing a second subsaturated surfactant on a precipitated CaC12 surface were measured by using the drop shape analysis technique. The subsaturated surfactants used were anionic sodium dodecylsulfate (NaDS), anionic sodium octanoate (NaC8), and nonionic nonylphenol polyethoxylate (NPE). Comparing at the critical micelle concentration (CMC) for each surfactant, NaC8 was the best wetting agent, followed by NaDS, with NPE as the poorest wetter (contact angles of 320, 420, and 620, respectively). Surface tension at the CMC increased in the order NaC8<NPE<NaDS, and subsaturated surfactant adsorption increased in the order NPE≪NaDS (1.4 vs. 84 μmole/g); adsorption of the NaC8 was not measurable. Interfacial tension (IFT) reduction at the solid-liquid interface due to subsaturated surfactant adsorption is an important contribution to contact angle reduction, in addition to surface tension reduction at the air-water interface. Surfactant adsorption onto the soap scum solid is crucial to solid-liquid IFT reduction and to good wetting. The fatty acid was the best wetting agent of the three surfactants studied, probably because calcium bridging with the carboxylate group synergizes surfactant adsorption onto the solid of the higher molecular weight soap. NaCl added to NaDS surfactant results in depressed CMC, lower surface tension at the CMC, decreased NaDS adsorption onto the solid, and decreased reduction in solid-liquid IFT. The contact angle is not dependent on the NaCl concentration for NaDS. The NaCl causes an increased tendency to form monolayers, which decrease air-water surface tension, but a decreased tendency to form adsorbed aggregates on the solid; the two trends offset each other, so wettability is not affected by added salt. The Zisman equation does not describe the wetting data for these systems well except for NaDS, further emphasizing the danger of ignoring solid-liquid IFT reduction in interpreting wetting data in these systems.  相似文献

Summary Sodium salts of fatty acid monoglyceride sulfates have been prepared by sulfating purified monoglycerides with chlorosulfonic acid or a pyridine-sulfur trioxide complex and subsequent neutralizing. Surface tension, interfacial tension, wetting, suspending and foaming characteristics, calcium stability, and emulsifying property (including stability of the emulsion obtained) of the aqueous solution of these surfactants from C12, C14, C16, and C18 saturated fatty acids and from oleic acid and linoleic acids have been determined and evaluated. With the exception of the wetting characteristic which was found to be optimum in the case of the more hydrophilic products (like those from lauric and linoleic acids) the remaining properties were found to reach a maximum value when the hydrophilic-hydrophobic balance in the surfactant molecule was seemingly optimum, as attained by myristic and oleic acid products.  相似文献

The fatty acids and nonsaponifiable lipids ofEimeria tenella oocysts were analyzed by gas liquid chromatography and combined gas liquid chromatographymass spectrometry. The fatty acids detected were identified as C14∶0, C16∶0, C16∶1, C18∶0, C18∶1, and C18∶2. Though the wt of the fatty acid fraction decreased during sporulation from 91 μg per 106 oocysts to 47 μg per 106 oocysts, the relative amounts of these fatty acids did not change appreciably. The nonsaponifiable lipids ofE. tenella consisted of cholesterol and unbranched primary alcohols of 22, 24, 26, 28, 30, and 32 carbons. Mass fragmentography demonstrated that each species of alcohol consisted of saturated and monounsaturated derivatives. Trimethylsilyl ethers of fatty alcohols were found to offer several important advantages over free alcohols for mass spectrometric characterization. Before sporulation, most fatty alcohols were in the oocyst wall. During sporulation, the wt of the nonsaponifiable lipids increased from 16 μg per 106 oocysts of 44 μg per 106 oocysts due largely to synthesis of C24 and C26 alcohols. The newly synthesized fatty alcohols were not deposited in the oocyst wall.  相似文献

The unsaponifiable lipids and total fatty acids of a nonphotosynthetic diatom,Nitzschia alba, have been examined. The major fatty acids were found to be 14∶0, 16∶0, 18∶1, and 20∶5; small amounts of 15∶0, 16∶1, 18∶0, 18∶2, 18∶3, and 20∶4 acids also were present. The unsaponifiable lipids consisted mostly of sterols, with only traces (<0.1%) of hydrocarbons (chiefly C16, C18, and C28 normal olefins). The sterols contained brassicasterol (major) and clionasterol (minor), as well as traces of an unidentified sterol; clionasterol was present only in glycosidically bound form.  相似文献

The degree of glyceride syntheses by lipase TOYO (Chromobacterium viscosum) and lipase OF (Candida cylindracea) using individual free fatty acids C18∶1, C18∶2, C18∶3, C18∶4, C20∶4, C20∶5 and C22∶6 were compared. Lipase TOYO incorporated each of the fatty acids into glycerol at levels of greater than 89%. Lipase OF incorporated most of the fatty acids at levels above 70% (docosahexaenoic acid incorporation was 63%). It was concluded that these two lipases are feasible for producing glycerides from unsaturated fatty acids.  相似文献

Acylation of sodium isethionate with isopropenyl stearate at 200 C for 30 min gave a 95% yield of sodium 2-sulfoethyl stearate, acetone being the only byproduct. Acylation of N-methyltaurine at 200 C for 90 min gave a 95% yield of N-methyl-N-(2-sulfoethyl) stearamide sodium salt. Corresponding surface active derivatives were also prepared from pelargonic, lauric, myristic, palmitic, oleic, phenylstearic and hydrogenated tallow fatty acids from their respective isopropenyl esters. Detergency, foam height, wetting time, lime soap dispersing power, critical micelle concentration and other surfactant properties were evaluated. Optimum properties were found at the C14−C18 fatty acid chain length. Unsaturation or branching increased solubility. The 2-sulfoethyl esters were similar to the N-methyl-N-(2-sulfoethyl) amides in foam height, wetting ability and lime soap dispersing power, superior to the N-methyl-N-(2-sulfoethyl) amides in detergency, but inferior in calcium stability and less stable to acid and alkali. Both compounds are readily biodegraded. The fatty isopropenyl ester synthesis has an advantage in yield and purity of the product and could increase the utilization of the 2-sulfoethyl esters and N-methyl-N-(2-sulfoethyl) amides in many applications. Analysis of the hornet’s hemolymph revealed the presence of C16 and C18 fatty acids (70%), which were accompanied by minor quantities (ranging from 0.1% to 0.6%) of the following acids: C10∶0, C11∶0, C12∶0, C13∶0, C14∶0, C15∶0, C16∶0, and C17∶0. The hemolymph of the queen larvae contained more C18∶1 than the hemolymph of the worker larvae, and the percentage of C16∶1 was higher in the fat body and the midgut than in the hemolymph. The significance of these results is discussed.  相似文献

Interest in α-sulfonated higher molecular weight (up to C20) fatty esters has increased in recent years in the surfactant industry due to the advent of economical sulfonation processes and methyl esters of fatty acids. In this paper, the authors present a review of the chemistry of the sulfonation of fatty esters and the two-step mechanism leading to α-sulfonation. Laboratory and pilot plant scale preparation of long chain fatty acid α-sulfoesters with vaporized SO3 without the use of solvents are also summarized. Work on the falling film equipment with hydrogenated methyl tallowate with vaporized SO3 is described along with procedures for neutralization and bleaching. Analytical methods for defining the α-sulfonates are discussed. A larger scale unit to continuously manufacture α-sulfo fatty esters from long chain fatty acid is described. A review of the commercially available continuous processes for sulfonation of the fatty acid esters with vaporized sulfur-trioxide have also been included. The properties of the salts of α-sulfo fatty esters including the hydrolytic stability, aqueous solubility, lime soap dispersing ability, and biological properties have been tabulated. Uses of these surfactant range α-sulfo esters are included in this discussion. Presented at the AOCS Meeting, New Orleans, April 1976.  相似文献

The unesterified fatty acids (UFA) present in fats and oils are isolated cleanly and without the formation of detectable artifacts due to saponification. The lipid (≤0.5 g) dissolved in 5 ml of n-hexane is passed over a 300-mg bed of Celite impregnated with saturated, aqueous Na3PO4 so that the solution passes through the bed in 3–4 min. After the bed has been washed, the UFA are freed from their salts by pumping of HC1 vapor over the bed. The acids are eluted with CH2Cl2 and subsequently separated underivatized by gas liquid chromatography. The C10 through C18.3 acids are separated in <15 min. Recovery of the C10-C18∶0 and C18∶1, C18∶2 and C18∶3 acids added to fatty acid-free fats and oils in several concentrations was nearly 100%  相似文献

The neutral lipids composition of defatted chickpea flour and two types of protein isolates has been studied. The main compounds in neutral lipids are triacylglycerols, free fatty acids, and diacylglycerols. Other compounds present are wax esters, free fatty alcohols, and free sterols. The main fatty acids in neutral lipids are C18:2 and C18:1 among the unsaturated, and C16:0 and C18:0 among the saturated acids. Free and esterified alcohols range from C16:0 to C28:0, the majority being those with an even number of carbon atoms. Sterols observed are β-sito-sterol, campesterol, stigmasterol, and δ-5-avenasterol. Triacyl-glycerols are partially hydrolyzed, and the amounts of unsaturated sterols and unsaturated fatty acids are reduced as a result of the chemical treatment during production of the protein isolates.  相似文献

The fatty acid composition, tocopherol and tocotrienol content, and oxidative stability of petroleum benzene-extracted Gevuina avellana Mol (Proteaceae) seed oil were determined. Positional isomers of monounsaturated fatty acids were elucidated by gas chromatography-electron impact mass spectrometry after 2-alkenyl-4,4-dimethyloxazoline derivatization. This stable oil (Rancimat induction period at 110°C: 20 h) is composed of more than 85% monounsaturated fatty acids and about equal amounts (6%) of saturated and polyunsaturated (principally linoleic) fatty acids. Unusual positional isomers of monounsaturated fatty acids, i.e., C16:1 Δ11, C18:1 Δ12, C20:1 Δ11, C20:1 Δ15, C22:1 Δ17, and presumably C22:1 Δ19 were identified. The C18:1 Δ12 and C22:1 Δ19 fatty acids are described for the first time in G. avellana seed oil. While only minute quantities of α-, γ-tocopherols and β-, γ- and δ-tocotrienols were found, the oil contained a substantial amount of α-tocotrienol (130 mg/kg). The potential nutritional value of G. avellana seed oil is discussed on the basis of its composition.  相似文献

Three groups of diesters have been isolated and identified in the lipids of steer meibomian glands. The first group, designated as α Type I, with the abbreviated formula FA-αOHFA-FA1c, consisted of α-hydroxy fatty acids esterified to fatty acids and fatty alcohols in the approximate molar ratio 1∶1∶1. The second group, designated as ω Type I-St, with the abbreviated formula FA-ωOHF A-St, consisted of ω-hydroxy fatty acids esterified to fatty acids and sterols in the approximate molar ratio 1∶1∶1. The third group, designated as α,ω Type II, with the abbreviated formula FA-α,ωdiol-FA, consisted of α,ω-diols esterified to 2 moles of fatty acids. The sum of the different diesters comprised about 9% of total steer meibomian lipids. Capillary GLC of the fatty acids of αType I diesters showed the fatty acids to be a family with a two-cluster profile, one at C12 to C20 and the other at C21 to C31, with anteiso chains predominating. Fatty acids from ωType I-St and α,ωType II diesters gave mainly a one-cluster profile in the short long chain, C23 to C30, with anteiso chains predominating, while the α-hydroxy fatty acids were short chain C13 to C18 acids with C16 predominating. The sterols in diesters ωType I-St were cholesterol (∼60%), Δ7 cholestenol (∼35%) and an unidentified compound (∼5%) with a GLC retention time slightly longer than Δ7 cholestenol on SE-30 phase. The ω-hydroxy fatty acids and α,ω-diols both were of exceedingly long chain lengths, C29−C38, and showed similar GLC profiles. Two types of triesters comprising approximately 1% of total steer meibomian lipids have been isolated but incompletely characterized. In terms of molar ratios, one group of triesters gave fatty acids:ω-hydroxy fatty acids:α-hydroxy fatty acids:sterols + fatty alcohols as approximately 1∶1∶1∶1. The other contained fatty acids, α-hydroxy fatty acids and α,ω-diols in what appears to be a complex mixture of several triesters. Diesters ωType I and α,ωType II also were found in human meibum. Hitherto these two diesters have not been found in any animal tissue.  相似文献

Results of oil-shale liquefaction experiments by conversion in aqueous solutions of sodium formate and sodium hydroxide are discussed. The study of the decomposition products shows that not only fatty acids, C14, C16 and C18, but also poly-unsaturated acids, C20, C22 and C24 took part in the formation of kukersite. Additional data are presented to confirm the assumption that polycarbonyl structures are present in kukersite. On thermal decomposition (semi-coking) kukersite yields a considerable amount of 5-alkyl resorcinols. On conversion in aqueous suspension, however, ketones are formed instead of alkyl resorcinols. Kukersite is a rare caustobiolith, distinguished by the presence of significant amounts of unchanged fragments of biological precursor material, mostly decarboxylated alkyl chains of fatty acids.  相似文献

Jasminum auriculatum (Vahl) (family: Malvaceae) widely grown in India was analysed for its fatty acids and waxy constituents. Straight-chain hydrocarbons (C20-C34), fatty acids (C14-C23) and fatty alcohols (C21-C32) were found in the 95% aqueous ethanol extract of the leaves of the plant. Malvalic acid was the only cyclic acid identified. Hydrocarbons (C29 and C31), fatty acids (C16, C18, C18:1, C18:2, C18:3 and C22) and fatty alcohols (iso-C26, C28 and C30) were the major components. Four polyalcohols, namely D-mannitol, xylitol, inositol and sorbitol, have also been found in the alcoholic extract of the leaves.  相似文献

Skin-surface lipids from the monkeyMacaca fascicularis are composed of sterol esters (38%), cholesterol (4%) and two types of wax diesters, identified as Type II (IIa and IIb, 17% and 40%, respectively). Type IIa contained diesters of 1,2-alkanediols esterified with two molecules of long-chain (C14−C34) fatty acids having straight and branched chains. In the diesters IIa, fatty acids shorter than C19 predominated in position 1, and fatty acids longer than C20 predominated in position 2. Type IIb contained diesters of 1,2-alkanediols esterified with C4 and C5 branched-chain fatty acids (predominantly isovaleric acid) at position 1 and long-chain (C14−C27) acids, having straight and branched chains, at position 2. The shortchain acids were converted to 2-nitrophenylhydrazides and analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). Ammonia chemical ionization (CI)-gas chromatography (GC)-mass spectrometry (MS) resolved the intact diesters IIb into 12 peaks corresponding to molecular weights ranging from 597 to 748, and showed that the molecular species, such as C21−C16−C5 (diol, fatty acid in position 2, fatty acid in position 1), C22−C16−C5 and C23−C16−C5, were prevalent. The fatty acids from both diesters were mostly (>98%) saturated. The 1,2-alkanediols from both diesters consisted of C16−C26 saturated straight- and branched-chain components. The acyl groups of sterol esters contained 86% C14−C34 branched-chain acids. The unsaturated fatty acids (5.4%) belonged to a straight-chain monoenoic series having extremely long chains (C18−C34). The branched-chain structures in the fatty acids and diols were iso and anteiso. These results show the species-specific profile for the skin-surface lipid synthesis.  相似文献

The surface-active properties and emulsification ability of sodium α-sulfonated fatty acid esters, CmH2m+1CH-(SO3Na)COOCnH2n+1, were studied as a function of the hydrophobic alkyl chainlength in the fatty acid (m=8−16) and the alcohol (n=8−18). As a result, it was discovered that sodium α-sulfonated fatty acid esters have a structural effect on the Krafft point different from that of amphiphiles with short alkyl chains. Moreover, some of the α-sulfonated fatty acid esters have quite low interfacial tensions, as well as non-foaming properties, which depend upon the total (m+n) number of carbon atoms in the alkyl chains.  相似文献
