The dispersion characteristics of a shielded suspended dielectric are computed using mode matching technique. From the dispersion characteristics the dielectric and conductor loss, quality factor and wave impedances are derived. The dimensions of shielded suspended dielectric are same as that of a rectangular metallic wave guide at Ka band.  相似文献

Dispersion characteristics and wave impedance for the even and odd modes of the broad side coupled dielectric image guides are computed by using mode matching techniques. Dispersion curves for broadside image guide are plotted for various dielectric materials and dimensional parameters as a function of frequency. Normalized electric field for dominant electric field component E of TM even and odd modes for various half spacings between two dielectric slabs of broadside coupled image guide have been plotted. Polysterene (∈ r=2.56) and Stycast (∈ r=3.4) have been used as dielectric materials in fabricating broadside coupled image guide. This broadside coupled dielectric guide is very convenient as compared to the other dielectric guides. Since in case of broadside coupled image guide the dielectric slab can be bonded to the side metallic walls using some low loss adhesive material, while in other coupled dielectric guides the dielectric slab have to be supported by some low dielectric constant material (Eccofoam with ∈ r=1.02) to maintain the proper distance of side metallic walls from the dielectric slab. Since this structure is symmetrical, this configuration can be analysed in terms of even and odd mode phase velocities. The difference in these even and off mode phase velocities can be used to determine the coupling between coupled dielectric slab. Various couplers in this configuration can be realised.  相似文献

The value of dielectric constant are the most important parameters in material science technology. In micro-wave and millimeter wave circuits using dielectric materials the values of this parameters should be known accurately. It is observed that the number of methods are reported in litrature, however these methods impose difficulties in experimentation and are not very accurate. In this paper a novel approach to the measurement of the dielectric constant of low loss materials at micro-wave and millimeter wave frequencies has been discussed. In this method by using antenna theory, a metallic strip dielectric guide is taken in to constideration and band reject phenomenon of dielectric antenna is used. Frequency response of an antenna in band reject mode is a function of the dimensional parameters, such as the metallic strip period, the profile of the metallic strip and the dielectric constant of the material used. Hence if one measure the frequency responce of the antenna in band reject mode, the dielectric constant of the material is determined provided all other parameters are known. This method gives a direct measure of dielectric constant and is quite accurate as computer techniques are used for evaluating the dielectric constant. This method verified experimentally also.  相似文献

A shielded suspended dielectric guide is a dielectric rectangular slab enclosed by regular metallic side walls from all the sides. This type of structure is used in dual mode phase shifter where the size of the normal rectangular wave guide is reduced at the ends, where a dielectric material is embeded in ferrite core. Hence impedance variation of a phase shifter at its transition may be easily calculated using shielded suspended dielectric guide which is a prime parameter for optimum efficiency of wave launching.  相似文献

The dielectric optical wave guide is finding growing attention at millimeter wave frequencies. However the dielectric optical waveguide radiates at bends and thus transmission loss increases. These radiations are in the outword direction of bends. This output radiation at output bends arises due to change in phase velocities of the propagating wave at the centre of the dielectric guide and the phase velocity at the outer surface of the dielectric guide. A unique methiod is suggested to avoid these radiation losses.Experimental results are also shown at microwave frequencies.  相似文献

The dispersion and coupling characteristics of the coupled image guides are studied by using the odd-even mode principle and effective dielectric constant method. The practical design of the image guide directional couplers is presented. The experiments of 3-dB and 10-dB couplers in ka band show several good features which are very useful to millimeter wave integrated circuits with flat coupling, easy design and fabrication, mechanical stability and low losses.  相似文献

A unique metal wave guide to dielectric image guide transition has been developed using exponential taper in dielectric wave guide. The propagation characteristics have been computed theoretically and taper impedance for the different cross-sections have been evaluated, so as to match it with the metal wave guide for efficient mode conversion. Transmission loss and return loss for triangular and exponentail taper with frequency for same dimensional parameters have been measured.  相似文献

In order to realize new ferrite planar devices for applications at millimeter-wavelength frequencies, the authors have developed nonreciprocal ferrite devices schemes for incorporating ferromagnetic layers in dielectric insulator guide geometries. Their research program involves both the calculation and the measurement of device characteristics. For the calculation, a method of effective permeability, in which the permeability is a tensor, is introduced to characterize the ferrite material. The propagation properties of the insular guide are calculated by using a single-mode approach. The calculated results for dispersion, dielectric, and conductivity losses show resonant behavior with the application of a magnetic bias field for a guide configuration in which the ferrite replaces the insular dielectric. Ferrite phase shifters, filters, isolators, and circulators are potential applications of this guide configuration. For the experimental part of the study, wave dispersion and attenuation were measured in a purely dielectric insular guide from 26.5 to 40GHz. In addition to these experiments wave attenuation was measured as a function of magnetic bias field for the case where a hexagonal ferrite platelet was mounted on the ground plane near the insulator guide. General agreement is found between calculated and measured attenuation  相似文献

The possibility of using plasma column as linear travelling wave antenna is studied. It is shown that surface current waves propagating in plasma column of finite length are a source of paraxial electromagnetic radiation of decimeter band. Influence of dielectric waveguide, which surrounds cold isotropic plasma, on dispersion properties of plasma column is investigated. The corresponding dispersion equation for eigenwaves of circular dielectric waveguide filled with plasma is derived and solved numerically. Plasma and waveguide parameters are determined under which the surface wave slowing-down is close to unity leading to antenna’s radiation primarily in axial direction. It is shown that in case of plasma density around 1012−1013 cm−3 dispersion of the considered wave is close to dispersion of waves propagating in metal travelling wave antenna.  相似文献

A unified full wave approach based on an extended method of lines is presented for the analysis of open planar waveguides. It can be used to analyze various open planar waveguides and is suitable especially for dielectric substrates with discontinuities and/or with finite ground planes where a full wave approach is not available yet. The convergence of the method is examined by numerical experiments. As application examples, the dispersion characteristics of open single and coupled microstrip lines with finite dielectric substrates are calculated and compared with the full wave results for structures with infinite width dielectric/conductor and the available quasi-static results for single microstrip line with finite dielectric in the literature. The effect of dielectric width on the characteristics is also discussed  相似文献

Trapped coupled dielectric overlay guide has several interesting characteristics useful for millimeter wave applications. Dispersion characteristics and wave impedance for even and odd modes are computed by using Effective Dielectric Constant (EDC) method. Dispersion curves realized for Trapped coupled overlay guide for various dielectric materials and dimensional parameters as a function of frequency. Conductor and dielectric loss in the above configuration have also been studied. Polystyrene (µr = 2.56) and Stycast (µr = 3.4) have been used as dielectric materials.  相似文献

Loss and dispersion characteristics of groove guide are two practically important factors in the design for millimeter wave system consisting of groove guide. In this paper, a new method is presented for analyzing loss and dispersion characteristics of the groove guides with arbitrary groove cross-sections. The method is based on the combination of an equivalent active transmission line equation and the staircase approximation. Numerical results of dispersion and attenuation properties for some groove guides with different groove profiles are given. The effectiveness and practicality of the present analysis are confirmed by the data given in the literature.  相似文献

A new type of lens is proposed which is effective for surface waves on dielectric slabs at millimetre wavelengths. The lens consists of two identical metallic plates of double convex shape which sandwlch the dielectric slab between them. It is demonstrated that a periodic sequence of the lenses can guide surface beam waves efficiently.  相似文献

All-dielectric ridge waveguides may be useful as elements of millimeter- and submillimeter-wave integrated circuits; A planar metallic V-coupler can be used to couple energy between the guide and small circuit elements such as diodes. Desirable characteristics in such a guide/coupler system are a) quasi-single mode propagation; b) low radiation loss in bendy c) low coupling loss between guide and devices and d) adequate physical strength. In this paper, we discuss the general problem of designing guides and couplers to obtain the desired characteristics. The principal method used is simulation in the range 2-7 GHz. We find that with good compromise designs, typical coupling loss between waveguide and a small device is about 1.4 dB, exclusive of dielectric loss and ohmic loss in the coupler.  相似文献

The dispersion characteristics of non radiative coupled dielectric guide have been computed using mode matching technique. From dispersion characteristics the conductor and dielectric losses have been evaluated and thus knowing the total losses, the quality factor of the coupled non radiative dielectric guide is evaluated in Ka band.  相似文献

The reduction of radio wave attenuation in two-dimensional tunnels is discussed. The attenuation of the dominant mode due to its field penetration into the lossy dielectric side wall is reduced by means of the attachment of periodically aligned metallic strips on the wall surface. The electric field distributions in tunnels with and without strips are illustrated to show the effect on the attenuation characteristics. The efficiency of attenuation reduction rate by the metallic-wall stripping method is summarized. The calculation results based on the boundary element analysis are verified by a laboratory experiment  相似文献

A circular waveguide periodically loaded with dielectric disks forms a slow wave structure which can be used in a traveling wave tube. For solid disks, the field pattern in the guide can be determined exactly and the characteristics of the structure, when used as a traveling wave tube, can be predicted using Pierce's small signal theory. The gain, bandwidth, operating frequency, and required beam voltage have been calculated for a wide range of structure dimensions. The power capability of the disk-loaded guide is also discussed.  相似文献

Leaky wave characteristics of modified NRD (Nonradiative Dielectric) guide with parallel plate length are systemically investigated. A technique is used to investigate the leaky property of the guide structure, whichis formulated by effectively combining the multimode network theory with the mode-matching method. In the paper, two phenomena are carefully studied: First, the asymmetric position of the dielectric rod generates a leaky hybrid mode that could produce cross talk between components of the circuit. Second, when the length of metallic plate is finite, another type of leaky mode creates which influences and even couples to the normal leaky guide mode under appropriate circumstances.  相似文献
