Measurement of refractive indices in the spectral bands 9-11 microm and 1.32 microm from a cw CO2 laser and a Q-switched Nd:YAG laser, respectively, is reported in a ZnGeP2 crystal. A new set of Sellmeier dispersion relations has been derived from the measured refractive indices data in this crystal. Second-harmonic generation (SHG) of CO2 laser radiation in this crystal is also reported. It is also seen that the previously reported phase-matching data for others experiments in SHG and optical parametric devices is explained satisfactorily with this new set of Sellmeier dispersion relation.  相似文献

Mid-infrared radiation in the 5-18-mum range has been obtained by difference frequency generation in a AgGaSe(2) crystal by pumping with the output of a type I LiNbO(3) optical parametric oscillator (OPO). Here we suggest the use of a LiTaO(3) retarder to achieve an orthogonal state of polarization between OPO outputs that are necessary for efficient pumping of a AgGaSe(2) crystal. Several tens of kilowatts of peak power near 8 mum and continuously tunable operation in the above range have been obtained.  相似文献

A smoothly tunable, narrow-linewidth, cw, 32-mW, 2.066-mum Ho:YLF laser was constructed and used for the first time in preliminary spectroscopic measurements of atmospheric CO(2) and H(2)O. The laser was constructed with a 4.5-mm-long, TE-cooled, codoped 5% Tm and 0.5% Ho yttrium lithium fluoride crystal (cut at Brewster's angle) pumped by an Ar(+)-pumped 500-mW Ti:sapphire laser operating at 792 nm. Intracavity etalons were used to reduce the laser linewidth to approximately 0.025 cm(-1) (0.75 GHz), and the laser wavelength was continuously and smoothly tunable over approximately 6 cm(-1) (180 GHz). The Ho:YLF laser was used to perform spectroscopic measurements on molecular CO(2) in a laboratory absorption cell and to measure the concentration of CO(2) and water vapor in the atmosphere with an initial accuracy of approximately 5-10%. The measurement uncertainty was found to be due to several noise sources, including the effect of asymmetric intensity of the laser modes within the laser linewidth, fluctuations caused by atmospheric turbulence and laser beam/target movement, and background spectral shifts.  相似文献

The thermo-optic constants of AgGaSe(2) have been measured at 2.052, 3.3913, 5.2955, and 10.5910 mum. These results combined with values reported in the literature were used to construct the thermo-optic dispersion formula that correctly reproduces the temperature-dependent phase-matching conditions for second-harmonic generation and sum-frequency generation of a CO(2) laser as well as the thermally induced lensing effects for the 2.05-mum pumped parametric oscillators.  相似文献

We investigate the relation of ion-exchange treatment and laser conditioning of a glass surface. The surface of Nd-doped phosphate laser glass was preirradiated with a cw CO(2) laser and strengthened by the ion-exchange treatment. It is shown that residual compressive stress occurs on the surface as peak-to-valley roughness and the appearance of microcracks decreases. Damage threshold of the glass surface increases by a factor of 1.7-3. The mechanism of laser conditioning is consistent with that of the ion-exchange treatment.  相似文献

We performed an experimental investigation of thermal lensing in silver gallium selenide (AgGaSe(2)) optical parametric oscillator crystals pumped by a 2-μm laser at ambient temperature. We determined an empirical expression for the effective thermal focusing power in terms of the pump power, beam diameter, crystal length, and absorption coefficient. This relation may be used to estimate average power limitations in designing AgGaSe(2) optical parametric oscillators. We also demonstrated an 18% slope efficiency from a 2-μm pumped AgGaSe(2) optical parametric oscillator operated at 77 K, at which temperature thermal lensing is substantially reduced because of an increase in the thermal conductivity and a decrease in the thermal index gradient dn/dT. Cryogenic cooling may provide an additional option for scaling up the average power capability of a 2-μm pumped AgGaSe(2) optical parametric oscillator.  相似文献

Nanocomposites of titanium dioxide (TiO(2)) and multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWNTs) were prepared and deposited by sol-gel spin coating on borosilicate substrates and sintered in air at 300?°C for 15?min. Further irradiation of the films with different CO(2) laser intensities (4.3-17?W?m(-2)) was carried out in order to crystallize TiO(2) in the anatase form while preserving the MWNT's structure. The laser irradiation changed the crystal structure of the coatings and also affected the wettability and photocatalytic activity of the films. The anatase phase was only observed when a minimum laser intensity of 12.5?W?m(-2) was used. The contact angle decreased with the enhancement of the laser intensity. The photocatalytic activity of the films was determined from the degradation of a stearic acid layer deposited on the films. It was observed that the addition of carbon nanotubes themselves increases the photocatalytic activity of TiO(2) films. This efficiency is even improved when high CO(2) laser intensities are used during the sintering of the coatings.  相似文献

We report distinct laser performance of Yb:GdCa(4)O(BO(3))(3) crystals cut along different principal optical axes using an unpolarized diode pump. The continuous-wave (cw) laser oscillation generated with y-cut crystal is polarized either with E parallel x or with E parallel z depending on the output coupling (T) utilized; a specific T=3% leads to a special situation in which the two orthogonal polarization states coexist oscillating at different wavelengths. The laser oscillation achieved with x- and z-cut crystals is also polarized, but with a fixed polarization of E parallel z and E parallel x, respectively. The most efficient laser operation is obtained with the y-cut crystal, generating a cw output power of 7.35 W at 1083-1085 nm with an optical-to-optical efficiency of 63%, the slope efficiency being as high as 84%.  相似文献

Results of a detailed experimental investigation aimed at reducing the thermal loading problem in a cw Cr(4+):forsterite laser at elevated temperatures are presented. From a Cr(4+):forsterite crystal with a differential absorption coefficient of 0.57 cm(-1), as much as 900 mW of cw output power has been obtained at 1.26 mum and at a crystal boundary temperature of 15 degrees C with an absorbed pump power of only 4.5 W at 1.06 mum. No chopping of the pump beam was necessary. An efficient radiative cooling technique was further employed to cool the laser and no subsequent power fading was observed. To the author's knowledge, the measured absorbed power slope efficiency of 29.5% represents the highest cw power performance reported to date from a Cr(4+):forsterite laser pumped by a Nd:YAG laser around room temperature. The role of the low differential absorption coefficient in the reduction of thermal loading is further elucidated by presenting comparative cw power performance data with a second Cr(4+):forsterite crystal having a differential absorption coefficient of 1.78 cm(-1) in the temperature range between 12 and 35 degrees C. Finally, some interesting multipulse effects of the laser observed in the millisecond regime during quasi-cw operation at 50% duty cycle are described.  相似文献

The nonresonant two-photon absorption (TPA) coefficient in silver selenogallate (AgGaSe(2)) crystals was measured for both ordinary and extraordinary polarizations in the 1300-1600-nm wavelength range. We found a cutoff wavelength for the TPA at between 1400 and 1500 nm, which corresponds to half of the bandgap energy of the AgGaSe(2) crystal. Below the cutoff wavelength we measured the TPA coefficient to be approximately 0.035 cm/MW for the extraordinary polarization and two to three times lower for the ordinary polarization. We compared the AgGaSe(2) samples from two manufacturers and observed a factor of 2 difference in the TPA coefficients. Because of the high TPA, the 1.32-mum pumped AgGaSe(2) optical parametric oscillator conversion efficiency was clipped at a low level.  相似文献

Vibration signatures of the Low Power Atmospheric Compensation Experiment satellite were obtained with a ground-based CO(2) laser radar. The laser radar operated in a cw mode and used autodyne receivers to extract relative target velocity information between a germanium retroreflector located at the base of the satellite and a retroreflector array located at the tip of an extended forward boom. Time-frequency analysis algorithms were applied to the vibration data to investigate the correlation between excitations and modal structure. The resultant analysis suggests that vibration modes of an on-orbit spacecraft can be suppressed with simple open-loop techniques.  相似文献

Vibrational motion of a harmonic oscillator was investigated with a focused continuous-wave (cw) CO2 Doppler lidar at 9.1-microm wavelength. A continuum of frequencies along with many discrete, equally spaced, resonant frequency modes was observed. The frequency modes are similar in structure to the oscillatory longitudinal modes of a laser cavity and arise because of interference of the natural resonant frequency of the oscillator with specific frequencies within the continuum. Each consecutive resonant frequency mode occurred for a movement of the oscillator much less than the wavelength of incident lidar radiation. For vigorous vibration of the oscillator, the observed spectra may be indicating nonlinear motion.  相似文献

A novel photoacoustic (PA) system that uses a continuously tunable high-pressure CO(2) laser as radiation source is presented. A minimum detectable absorption coefficient of 10(-6) cm(-1) that is limited mainly by the desorption of absorbing species from the cell walls and by residual electromagnetic perturbation of the microphone electronics has currently been achieved. Although a linear dependence of the PA signal on the gas concentration has been observed over 4 orders of magnitude, the dependence on energy exhibits a nonlinear behavior owing to saturation effects in excellent agreement with a theoretical model. The calibration of the laser wavelength is performed by PA measurements on low-pressure CO(2) gas, resulting in an absolute accuracy of ± 10(-2) cm(-1). PA spectra are presented for carbon dioxide (CO(2)), ammonia (NH(3)), ozone (O(3)), ethylene (C(2)H(4)), methanol (CH(3)OH), ethanol (C(2)H(5)OH), and toluene (C(7)H(8)) in large parts of the laser emission range. The expected improvement in detection selectivity compared with that of studies with line-tunable CO(2) lasers is demonstrated with the aid of multicomponent trace-gas mixtures prepared with a gas-mixing unit. Good agreement is obtained between the known concentrations and the concentrations calculated on the basis of a fit with calibration spectra. Finally, the perspectives of the system concerning air analyses are discussed.  相似文献

The magneto-optic Q-switched operation of a neodymium-doped bismuth germinate crystal (Nd:BGO) laser that is end pumped by a cw 500-mW laser diode is reported. The crystal is a new host for Nd lasers. Here it acts as a magneto-optic modulator as well as a laser medium. A pulse energy of 2 μJ with a FWHM of 100 ns has been obtained. The device operates at a repetition rate of 1 kHz, and the fluctuation of the shot-to-shot intensity is less than ±1%.  相似文献

A real-time, in situ fixing method by use of heating with a CO(2) laser beam is suggested for thermal fixing of a small local hologram in the bulk of a Fe:LiNbO(3) photorefractive crystal. For heating up to 100 degrees C-200 degrees C a volume with a shape similar to that of the laser beam a heat-guiding technique is developed. On the basis of the heat-transfer equations, different heating modes-with or without metal absorbers for heat guiding-obtained by use of a continuous or pulsed laser beam are analyzed. The optimal mode may be pulsed heating with absorbers. On this basis experiments have been designed and demonstrated. It is seen that the fixing process with CO(2) laser beam is short compared with the process by use of an oven, and the fixing efficiency is quite high.  相似文献

A highly efficient and compact Nd:YVO(4) laser is proposed. In cw operation, a single-longitudinal-mode output of 95 mW and a multilongitudinal-mode output of 435 mW have been observed at 1.06 μm with a 1-W diode laser. Using a KTP crystal in the short laser cavity, a green output of 105 mW was generated. A Q-switched pulse with a peak power of 230 W and a pulse width of 8 ns was obtained with the intracavity KTP crystal, which was used as both an electro-optic Q switch and a frequency doubler.  相似文献

A fiber-optic radiometer is used to monitor and control, in real time, the temperature of samples of biological tissue irradiated with a CO(2) laser. Several control algorithms are investigated and the optimal control mode is obtained. A silver halide infrared fiber is used both to deliver the CO(2) laser radiation needed to irradiate the target and to deliver the thermal radiation emitted from the target back to the radiometer. Such a system can be useful in medical applications of CO(2) lasers.  相似文献

We discuss the formation of a specified super-Gaussian intensity distribution of a fundamental mode by means of an intracavity controlled mirror, which is a water-cooled bimorph flexible mirror equipped with four controlling electrodes. Analysis has confirmed the possibility to form fourth-, sixth-, and eighth-order super-Gaussian intensity distributions at the output of the stable resonators of industrial cw CO(2) and YAG:Nd(3+) lasers. We present the results of the experimental formation of fourth-order and sixth-order super-Gaussian fundamental modes at the output of a cw CO(2) laser by means of an intracavity flexible mirror. We observed an increase in power up to 12% and an enlargement of the peak value of the far-field intensity by as much as 1.6 times that with a Gaussian TEM(00) mode of the cw CO(2) laser.  相似文献

The first demonstration, to the best of our knowledge, of continuous-wave (cw) difference-frequency generation (DFG) in LiInS2 crystal is reported. Wide spectral coverage (5.5-11.3 microm) has been obtained with angle and wavelength tuning for type II (eoe) critically phase-matched parametric interaction. The phase-matching conditions in cw DFG have been investigated, which allowed us to improve the Sellmeier parameters by use of a two-pole dispersion equation. An effective nonlinear coefficient deff = 6.9 +/- 0.8 pm/V has been determined at approximately 7 microm relative to the well-known nonlinear coefficient d36 of AgGaS2, which yields a power-conversion efficiency of approximately 12.4 microW/(W2 cm). We evaluated the high-resolution spectral characteristics of the DFG source by recording C2H2 and SO2 spectra.  相似文献
