A simple data link (SDL) protocol for next generation packet network   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
The simple data link (SDL) is a new framing protocol for variable/fixed length packets over a general-purpose point-to-point communications channel. SDL extends the HEC-like framing mechanism used in ATM to variable-length data. Its low implementation complexity makes it particularly suitable for high-speed transport links in wavelength channels and dark fiber applications. SDL is a very attractive alternative to conventional solutions such as ATM and PPP-over-SONET (POS) for high data rate environments. SDL has also been designed to facilitate many OAM&P functions needed in next generation multiservice optical packet networks including multiprotocol encapsulation, virtual links, quality-of-service (QoS) differentiation, link management, and control. We describe framing and data link synchronization procedures in SDL, and evaluate its performance over octet and bit synchronous transport facilities.  相似文献

We developed novel network interfaces, for example 10 Gbit Ethernet to 80 Gbit/s optical-packet (10 GbitE–80 GbitOP) or 80 Gbit/s optical-packet to 10 Gbit Ethernet (80 GbitOP–10 GbitE) converters (collectively called as 10 GbitE/80 GbitOP converters), to connect optical packet switching (OPS) networks with IP technology-based networks. By using newly developed arrayed burst-mode optical packet transmitters/receivers together, the 10 GbitE–80 GbitOP converter at the ingress edge node of the OPS network encapsulates an IP packet into an $80(8lambdatimes 10) {rm Gbit/s}$ dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM)-based optical packets and generates an optical label based on a lookup table and the destination addresses of the IP packet. The 80 GbitOP–10 GbitE converter at the egress edge node decapsulates the IP packet from the optical packet and generates a 10 GbitE frame accommodating the IP packet according to a lookup table. By using these network interface devices and OPS system based on multiple optical label processing, we achieved, for the first time, 74-km single-mode fiber transmission, switching, and buffering of $80(8lambdatimes 10) {rm Gbit/s}$ DWDM-based optical packets encapsulating almost 10 Gbit/s IP packets with error-free operation (IP packet loss rate $≪ 10^{-6}$).   相似文献

A new switching architecture for broadband ISDN, "Synchronous Composite Packet Switching (SCPS)," is proposed and evaluated. It efficiently integrates circuit and packet switching functions on a single switching system and accommodates very high speed-up to several tens of Mbit/s-communication services, such as very high speed bursts of data, still picture, and motion video, as well as 64 kbit/s or less voice and data services. The SCPS system comprises plural switch modules and plural Very high speed synchronous loops. In the SCPS system, messages on plural circuit switched channels are assembled into quasi-packets, called "composite packets," and switched synchronously between switch modules, maintaining complete time transparency and short absolute delay time. A system parameter design to obtain high system efficiency and appropriate system modularity is explained, and an example for a very large capacity transit switch of 4 Gbit/s throughput is presented. System implementation problems to realize the SCPS principle, such as efficient implementation of the composite packet assembling and loop transmission functions, are investigated and an experimental system constructed for circuit switching part is presented. The most remarkable characteristic of the SCPS is that it efficiently integrates64 times nkbit/s circuit switching with packet switching. Moreover, the SCPS system retains compatibility with existing networks and the possibiliy of evolution toward a future broadband ISDN. On the basis of the above investigations and experimental system construction, the authors conclude that the SCPS is one of the most practical switching architectures for the coming broadband ISDN era.  相似文献

This paper proposes a power efficient multipath video packet scheduling scheme for minimum video distortion transmission (optimised Video QoS) over wireless multimedia sensor networks. The transmission of video packets over multiple paths in a wireless sensor network improves the aggregate data rate of the network and minimizes the traffic load handled by each node. However, due to the lossy behavior of the wireless channel the aggregate transmission rate cannot always support the requested video source data rate. In such cases a packet scheduling algorithm is applied that can selectively drop combinations of video packets prior to transmission to adapt the source requirements to the channel capacity. The scheduling algorithm selects the less important video packets to drop using a recursive distortion prediction model. This model predicts accurately the resulting video distortion in case of isolated errors, burst of errors and errors separated by a lag. Two scheduling algorithms are proposed in this paper. The Baseline scheme is a simplified scheduler that can only decide upon which packet can be dropped prior to transmission based on the packet’s impact on the video distortion. This algorithm is compared against the Power aware packet scheduling that is an extension of the Baseline capable of estimating the power that will be consumed by each node in every available path depending on its traffic load, during the transmission. The proposed Power aware packet scheduling is able to identify the available paths connecting the video source to the receiver and schedule the packet transmission among the selected paths according to the perceived video QoS (Peak Signal to Noise Ratio—PSNR) and the energy efficiency of the participating wireless video sensor nodes, by dropping packets if necessary based on the distortion prediction model. The simulation results indicate that the proposed Power aware video packet scheduling can achieve energy efficiency in the wireless multimedia sensor network by minimizing the power dissipation across all nodes, while the perceived video quality is kept to very high levels even at extreme network conditions (many sensor nodes dropped due to power consumption and high background noise in the channel).  相似文献

This paper presents the results of the optical packet switched network (OPSnet) project, which investigated the design of an asynchronous optical packet switch suitable for the core of an optical transport network (OTN). The requirements for the switch were to control and route variable-length packets transmitted at bit rates beyond 100 Gbit/s. The subsystems and techniques used are analyzed and presented. Fast header encoding and passive decoding is based on the differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) method. The dual-pump four-wave mixing (d-p FWM) wavelength-conversion technique, in combination with an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG), is utilized for packet switching. An advanced and fully controllable mechanism for the packet-switch control is presented, which is implemented on field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology. The control wavelength is generated using a tunable laser, the actual wavelength and new header values are provided utilizing fast header recognition and look-up tables. The integration of the subsystems is discussed, and the results of a four-output port asynchronous packet-switch demonstrator operating at 40 Gbit/s are presented. Finally, the switch limitations are examined and design issues are discussed.  相似文献

High-performance, long-wavelength OEICs on a GaAs-on-InP heterostructure were fabricated. For the transmitter OEIC, high-speed operation up to 2.4 Gbit/s was achieved, and a receiver sensitivity as high as -26.0 dBm for a 1.2 Gbit/s NRZ signal was realised for the receiver OEIC. To confirm the usefulness of these OEICs for optical fibre networks, a 1.2 Gbit/s optical fibre transmission experiment was successfully carried out over a 52.5 km span  相似文献

Advances in optical networking reveal that all optical networks offering a multigigabit rate per wavelength will soon become economical as the underlying backbone in wide-area networks, in which the optical switch plays a central role. One of the central issues is the design of efficient signaling protocols which can support diversified traffic types, in particular the bursty IP traffic. This paper introduces a novel signaling protocol called the sampling probe algorithm (or SPA) to be used in a class of optical packet switching systems based on wavelength division multiplexing (WDM). The proposed scheme takes a drastically different approach from all existing signaling protocols. The salient features are 1) the pretransmission coordination is using an in-band signaling protocol, and thus does not require separate control channel(s) for transmission coordination; 2) the protocol is based on a reservation (connection) scheme which is capable of supporting multimedia traffic; 3) a gated service is adopted in which each successful reservation allows multiple packets (train of packets) to be transmitted, which can significantly reduce the per packet overhead; 4) the scheduling algorithm is adaptive by allowing flexible assignment of bandwidth on-demand; 5) the channel status gathering is done in a distributed fashion, and uses a passive listening mechanism, which itself does not interfere with packet transmissions. The results demonstrate that the proposed in-band signaling protocol can achieve high throughput and stability under heavy traffic condition.  相似文献

Very high speed optical links are studied. Applicable areas for systems using light-emitting diodes (LED'S) or laser diodes (LD's) with short transmission length are clarified. A new type differential mode inversion (DMI) decoder is proposed and it is shown that the DMI code is suitable as the line code for very high speed intra-office optical links. By using DMI code. a 400-Mbit/s information rate optical transmission experiment employing a 1.3-μm InGaAsP LED and a 0.5-km graded-index multimode optical fiber (GIF) as well as a 1.6-Gbit/s information rate optical transmission experiment using a 1.3-μm InGaAsP/InP Fabry-Perot-type LD and a 10-km single-mode optical fiber (SMF) are carried out. These results show that the feasibility of a 400-Mbit/s intra-office optical link using the LED and GIF, as well as a 1.6-Gbit/s intra-office optical link using the LD and SMF, are confirmed and this optical transmission technology has high-speed performance up to 3.2 Gbit/s.  相似文献

TCP is a reliable transport protocol tuned to perform well in traditional networks made up of links with low bit-error rates. Networks with higher bit-error rates, such as those with wireless links and mobile hosts, violate many of the assumptions made by the transmission control protocol (TCP), causing degraded end-to-end performance. We propose a two-layer hierarchical cache architecture for enhancing TCP performance over heterogeneous networks with both wired and wireless links. A new network-layer protocol, called new snoop (NS), is designed. The main idea is to cache the unacknowledged packets at both the mobile switch center (MSC) and base station (BS), to form a two-layer cache hierarchy. If a packet is lost due to transmission errors in the wireless link, the BS takes the responsibility to recover the loss. When a handoff occurs, the packets cached at the MSC can help to minimize the latency of retransmissions due to temporal disconnection. NS can preserve the end-to-end TCP semantics and is compatible with existing TCP applications. Its implementation only requires code modification at the BS and MSC. Simulation results show that NS is significantly more robust in dealing with unreliable wireless links and handoffs as compared with the original snoop scheme, as well as some other existing TCP enhancements.  相似文献

The design, analysis, and implementation of an end-to-end transport protocol that is capable of high throughput consistent with the evolving high-speed physical networks based on fiber-optic transmission lines and high-capacity switches are presented. Unlike current transport protocols in which changes in control/state information are exchanged between the two communicating entities only when some significant event occurs, this protocol exchanges relevant and full state information periodically and frequently. It is shown that this reduces the complexity of protocol processing by removing many of the procedures required to recover from network inadequacies such as bit errors, packet loss, and out-of-sequence packets and makes it more amenable to parallel processing. Also, to increase channel utilization in the presence of high-speed, long-latency networks and to support diagrams, and efficient implementation of the selective repeat method of error control is incorporated in the protocol. An implementation using a Motorola 68030-based multiprocessor as a front-end processor is described. The current implementation can comfortably handle 10-15 kpackets/s  相似文献

Demand for multimedia services, such as video streaming over wireless networks, has grown dramatically in recent years. The downlink transmission of multiple video sequences to multiple users over a shared resource-limited wireless channel, however, is a daunting task. Among the many challenges in this area are the time-varying channel conditions, limited available resources, such as bandwidth and power, and the different transmission requirements of different video content. This work takes into account the time-varying nature of the wireless channels, as well as the importance of individual video packets, to develop a cross-layer resource allocation and packet scheduling scheme for multiuser video streaming over lossy wireless packet access networks. Assuming that accurate channel feedback is not available at the scheduler, random channel losses combined with complex error concealment at the receiver make it impossible for the scheduler to determine the actual distortion of the sequence at the receiver. Therefore, the objective of the optimization is to minimize the expected distortion of the received sequence, where the expectation is calculated at the scheduler with respect to the packet loss probability in the channel. The expected distortion is used to order the packets in the transmission queue of each user, and then gradients of the expected distortion are used to efficiently allocate resources across users. Simulations show that the proposed scheme performs significantly better than a conventional content-independent scheme for video transmission.  相似文献

We demonstrate an optical time-division-multiplexed fibre transmission system using actively mode-locked InGaAsP injection lasers and high-speed Ti:LiNbO3 switch/modulators. 针对200Gbit/s PAM4光收发模块的设计需求,提出了一种基于四阶脉冲幅度调制(PAM4)、数据传输速率达200Gbit/s的光发射组件封装方案。该封装内部集成了4路PAM4电/光转换通道,单通道数据传输速率为50Gbit/s。介绍了该200Gbit/s PAM4光发射组件的组成和技术难点,然后对其中的50Gbit/s数据传输通道进行了建模、仿真和优化,最后完成了样品的测试。测试结果表明:样品的单通道PAM4数据速率可达50Gbit/s,整体PAM4数据速率可达200Gbit/s,满足光收发模块的设计需求。  相似文献

Distributed Joint Source-Channel Coding of Video Using Raptor Codes   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Extending recent works on distributed source coding, this paper considers distributed source-channel coding and targets at the important application of scalable video transmission over wireless networks. The idea is to use a single channel code for both video compression (via Slepian-Wolf coding) and packet loss protection. First, we provide a theoretical code design framework for distributed joint source-channel coding over erasure channels and then apply it to the targeted video application. The resulting video coder is based on a cross-layer design where video compression and protection are performed jointly. We choose Raptor codes - the best approximation to a digital fountain - and address in detail both encoder and decoder designs. Using the received packets together with a correlated video available at the decoder as side information, we devise a new iterative soft-decision decoder for joint Raptor decoding. Simulation results show that, compared to one separate design using Slepian-Wolf compression plus erasure protection and another based on FGS coding plus erasure protection, the proposed joint design provides better video quality at the same number of transmitted packets. Our work represents the first in capitalizing the latest in distributed source coding and near-capacity channel coding for robust video transmission over erasure channels.  相似文献

We review recent progress and the future of 40-Gbit/s electrical time division multiplexed (ETDM) channel technologies for the optical transport network (OTN), where optical technologies, including high-speed ETDM channel transmission and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM), dramatically enhance network flexibility while reducing transport node cost as well as transmission cost. The 40 Gbit/s channel has recently been specified to be one of the optical channels in OTN. A new digital frame for the optical channels [optical channel transport unit (OTU)] was introduced for the network node interface of OTN in International Telecommunication Union-Telecommunication (ITU-T) standard. The specified data bit rates are 2.7 Gbit/s (OTU1), 10.7 Gbit/s (OTU2), and 43.0 Gbit/s (OTU3). These OTU frames have additional overhead bytes that support the network management overhead for OTN and out-of-band forward error correcting (FEC) codes. We discuss the feasibility and impact of the OTU3 frame in terrestrial networks. A newly developed 43-Gbit/s OTN line terminal prototype that confirms the feasibility of 43-Gbit/s ETDM channels and the OTU3 management capability is discussed. As a guide to the evolution of OTN, modulation formats for 43Gbit/s-based DWDM transmission are described for long distance application with the total capacity over one terabit per second.  相似文献

Autonet is a self-configuring local area network composed of switches interconnected by 100 Mb/s, full-duplex, point-to-point links. The switches contain 12 ports that are internally connected by a full crossbar. Switches use cut-through to achieve a packet forwarding latency as low as 2 ms/switch. Any switch port can be cabled to any other switch port or to a host network controller. A processor in each switch monitors the network's physical configuration. A distributed algorithm running on the switch processor computes the routes packets are to follow and fills in the packet forwarding table in each switch. With Autonet, distinct paths through the set of network links can carry packets in parallel, allowing many pairs of hosts to communicate simultaneously at full link bandwidth. A 30-switch network with more than 100 hosts has been the service network for Digital's Systems Research Center since February 1990  相似文献

在国家自然科学基金网(NSFCNet)上已实现由400 km×10 Gbit/s传输链路直接升级的一路400 km×40 Gbit/s光传输实验的基础上,采用自行研制的40×40 Gbit/s载波抑制归零(CS-RZ)码多波长光发送源,进行了160 km的1.6 Tbit/s(40×40 Gbit/s)波分复用(WDM)光传输实验。实验结果表明,对于常规中短距离10 Gbit/s传输链路可以直接升级至40 Gbit/s。但是由于40 Gbit/s传输系统的色散容限小于60 ps/nm,而且传输光纤与色散补偿模块的色散斜率不匹配,要实现40通道40 Gbit/s的传输,必须对40个信道分别进行精细的色散补偿。这也说明,对于宽带的40 Gbit/s多波长系统,有必要优化设计或更新传输链路。  相似文献
