A planar substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) based cavity‐backed self‐triplexing slot antenna is proposed for X‐Ku band applications. The antenna comprises of the SIW cavity, radiating slots, and feeding networks. The radiating slots; that are etched on the upper metallic plane of the SIW, are backed up by the three radiated quarter cavities (QCs). The radiating slots in the respective QCs are of different lengths, excited by three separated orthogonal feed lines to resonate at three different frequencies as 11.01, 12.15, and 13.1 GHz. By fine‐tuning the antenna parameters, an intrinsic input port isolation of better than 26 dB is realized which helps in achieving the self‐triplexing property. The behaviors of individual cavity modes at three resonant frequencies are explained with the help of Z‐parameter. The proposed antenna layout is easy to integrate with the planar circuit. The proposed antenna is fabricated and measured results display a close concern with the simulated results. Moreover, a unidirectional radiation pattern and gain of 5.1, 5.54, and 6.12 dBi at resonant frequencies are realized.  相似文献

This article deals with the design of a broadband cavity‐backed microstrip‐fed wide‐slot antenna array for L‐band applications. For verification purpose, a sample 1 × 4‐element antenna array has been designed, manufactured and tested. Experimental results have shown satisfactory agreement with the simulation. The proposed antenna array exhibits a measured impedance bandwidth of 1.4 GHz (90%) with frequency of 0.85 to 2.25 GHz and the gain is higher than 11 dBi. The designed antenna has small size and low weight and can be fabricated using a low‐cost fabrication process for easy integration with RF circuits and microwave components. This work is useful for some radar applications and radio frequency identification systems.  相似文献

This article describes a novel aperture‐coupled feed, for the excitation of a cavity‐backed quad‐slot antenna with circular polarization. Firstly, a quad‐slot cavity‐backed antenna with linear polarization (LP) is proposed. Then, a novel aperture‐coupled feed, which is composed of a cross‐shaped coupling aperture and a T‐shaped feeding microstrip line, will be applied to this LP antenna. By differing the lengths of the four radiation slots together with the novel aperture‐coupled feed, 90° phase difference and equal magnitude between the radiations from the two pairs of slots can be generated. As a result, a good performance of axial ratio will be achieved for the proposed antenna. A prototype is fabricated at Ka band for a demonstration. Investigations show that the antenna can present a minimum axial ratio (AR) of only about 0.37 dB, as well as a fractional AR bandwidth of about 0.94%. A relative high gain of 6.9 dBic at 32.1 GHz is also achieved for the prototype. The proposed substrate integrated cavity backed antenna with circularly polarization has great potential to be integrated into millimeter‐wave transceiver modules. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A low‐profile self‐triplexed slot antenna is proposed for multiple system integrations. The antenna comprises of hybrid substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity (a combination of a half‐mode circular and half‐mode rectangular SIW), radiating slot, and feeding network. A slot is imprinted on the upper metal‐layer of the SIW which splits the cavity into three radiating sections. It offers tri‐frequency bands when each section is excited separately. By finely tuning the antenna dimensions, it produces three frequency‐bands around 5.57, 7.17, and 7.65 GHz simultaneously utilizes a single slot with maintaining the intrinsic input‐port isolation better than 20 dB. This property helps to introduce the self‐triplexing phenomenon. Compared with the conventional multiband antennas that use an extra circuitry to ensure the port isolations, this design preserves compactness and easy to integrate with planar circuits Moreover, the proposed antenna is fabricated and the measured results mutually agreed with the simulated counterparts. The proposed design can be a feasible option for mobile transceiver applications.  相似文献

In this article, a novel resonant series slot linearly polarized antenna is realized using substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology for industrial scientific medical radio band (ISM) at 5.8 GHz. The proposed antenna consists of two 24° inclined slots and two metallic vias to produce alternate inductive and capacitive loads. The rectangular slots are introduced at the top metallic surface at an angle of 24° from the Y‐axis to excite a hybrid mode (TE110 + TE120) near to the modified cavity mode TE120. The resonant slots are excited with the help of an inset microstrip feedline which retain its planar integrability. The slots are excited to resonate in the TE120 mode at 5.8 GHz. To enhance the bandwidth, the location of two shorting vias are optimized in proximity to the slots. These vias help to couple the hybrid mode and the cavity modes in the desired frequency band, which leads to enhancement in the bandwidth significantly. The proposed geometry is fabricated and experimentally verified. The measured and simulated results depict a good co‐relation which show measured ?10 dB fractional bandwidth of 5.2% with a maximum gain of 7.15 dBi and the front to back ratio better than 15 dB at 5.8 GHz.  相似文献

A novel design of dual‐frequency dual‐sense circularly polarized (CP) substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity‐backed slot antenna is presented for dual‐band wireless communication systems. The proposed antenna consists of square SIW cavity, asymmetrical bow‐tie‐shaped cross slot and probe feed. Due to use of asymmetrical bow‐tie‐shaped cross slot, circularly polarized wave radiates at two different frequencies with opposite sense of polarizations. The RHCP radiation occurs at (10.45‐10.54) GHz (Lower band) and LHCP occurs at (11.26‐11.34) GHz (Upper band). Moreover, in each band, sense of polarization can be change by changing the feed position. The front to back radiation ratio (FTBRR) is more than 10.5 dB and cross polarization level is lower than ?20 dB in both the bands.  相似文献

This paper presents the analysis, design, and performance characteristics of a new planar balun structure. The design is based on the log‐periodic antenna theory. The design guidelines, as well as simulation and measured results, are presented. It is shown that the new balun has greater than one octave bandwidth. A comparison to the half‐wave balun is also included. The log‐periodic balun will find applications in wireless communication circuits or devices such as mixers, amplifiers, and antennas. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. This work looks at the use of wideband cavity‐backed U‐slot microstrip antennas in finite phased arrays. This configuration retains the single‐patch and single‐layer characteristics of conventional microstrip antenna arrays and provides a good impedance matching over wider scan angles when electrically thick substrates are used to improve the frequency bandwidth. The characteristics of finite phased arrays of U‐slot rectangular microstrip patches enclosed in cylindrical cavities are analyzed from a validated hybrid methodology based on the finite element method, the modal analysis, and the properties of spherical waves. The results are compared with those obtained using an infinite array model. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Int J RF and Microwave CAE, 2009.  相似文献

A cavity‐backed antenna with low‐profile, dual‐polarization, and wide operating bandwidth characteristics is proposed. In this design, two orthogonally positioned triangular bowtie antennas printed on a low‐cost substrate are loaded onto a square cavity, so that two orthogonal linear polarizations can be excited. By further introducing four extended ground stubs from each side of the square cavity, the proposed antenna can also acquire low‐profile characteristic of approximately 0.1λ (15 mm). To achieve good impedance matching, additional circular slots are introduced into each bowtie design. The measured results show that the proposed antenna can cover a wide operating bandwidth of 62% (2.0–3.8 GHz) with a VSWR of 2:1. Besides exhibiting good isolation (>20 dB) between the two feeding ports, desirable realized gains (6.0–10.5 dBi) over the wide operation band are also demonstrated. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. This short communication presents a substrate integrated waveguide planar cavity slotted antenna array. The proposed antenna array, excited in its TE33 higher mode, incorporates a grounded coplanar‐waveguide (CPW) CPW‐feeding excitation mechanism. The electromagnetic energy is coupled to the air through 3 × 3 slot array etched on top metallic layer. The proposed antenna operates in the X‐band for the frequency range around the 10 to 11 GHz with resonances at 10.4 and 10.8 GHz frequencies. The proposed antenna array was fabricated and tested. Experimental results show good impedance matching with enhanced radiation characteristics, in terms of peak gain, cross‐polarization level, and low back‐radiation. The proposed antenna has the advantages of low‐footprints, lightweight, high gain, low‐cost, and ease of integration with other electronic circuits. With these characteristics, the proposed antenna array can find its applications in compact wireless digital transceivers.  相似文献

This article considers feeding techniques for Log Periodic Microstrip‐Antenna Array (LPMA). It proposes simple design equations of LPMA for each feed configuration. For an operating band of 4 to 6 GHz, we use a scaling factor of 1.05. EM simulation studies and measurements on prototypes show that the T Fed LPMA gives 2 to 5 dBi gain improvement over other configurations. Unlike many other LPMA configurations, the proposed configuration follows proper Log‐Periodic principle with almost an end‐fire radiation pattern. These design principles will be useful in LPMA synthesis and the prototype‐based designs can find applications in various areas including Wi‐Fi, C band, and others.  相似文献

A dual‐band dual‐mode microstrip Yagi antenna with quasi‐end‐fire radiation patterns is proposed in this paper. It consists of five radiating patches driven by a single slot‐loaded patch placed in the middle. Meanwhile, two slot‐loaded parasitic patches are symmetrically located on two sides of the driven patch, respectively. In the lower band, the five patches involved resonate at TM01 mode. While in the upper band, all the patches resonate at TM02 mode. In order to ensure quasi‐end‐fire radiations in the both bands, four slots are symmetrically etched around the strongest surface currents of each patch resonating at TM02 mode. As a result, the resonant frequency of TM02 mode is decreased dramatically, while the resonant frequency of TM01 mode almost remains unchanged. With these arrangements, the separations between any two of the adjacent patches at their centers satisfy the requirements in design of the microstrip Yagi antenna in both bands, so as to realize the dual‐band dual‐mode microstrip Yagi antenna on a single‐layer substrate. Finally, an antenna prototype is fabricated and tested. The measured results reveal that the dual operating bands of 2.76~2.88 and 4.88~5.03 GHz for |S11| < ?10 dB are satisfactorily achieved. Most importantly, the proposed antenna can indeed realize the quasi‐end‐fire radiation patterns in dual operating bands.  相似文献

This article presented a substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity‐backed self‐diplexing antenna array with frequency beam scanning characteristic. The proposed array consists of 16 SIW cavity‐backed slot antennas. The SIW cavity‐backed slot antenna can be fed by two separate ports to resonate at two different frequencies and achieve high isolation better than 20 dB between two input ports. The proposed element is a typical self‐diplexing antenna. These cavity‐backed slot antennas are shunt‐fed by a compact 1 to 16 SIW power divider and series‐fed by a set of microstrip lines, respectively. As a result, this array achieves an unidirectional radiation pattern at 10.2 GHz with high gain of 15.10 dBi, and a frequency beam scanning characteristic from 7.0 to 9.0 GHz ranging from ?50° to 46°.  相似文献

A broadband horizontally polarized omnidirectional antenna array is proposed, which consists of a circular array of four identical broadband T‐bar fed cavity‐backed slot antenna elements and a 1‐to‐4 power divider. The proposed omnidirectional antenna array has a compact diameter of only 0.44λ0, a broad bandwidth of 75.9% (450‐1000 MHz) and a favorable omnidirectional radiation pattern in the azimuth plane with a gain variation below 3 dB in the operating band. Moreover, the cavity‐backed structure makes the proposed antenna array hardly affected by metal environment and the all metal construction allows for high‐power applications, and the reserved cable channel behind the cavities of the antenna elements ensures the extensionality and stability of the proposed array when longitudinal array expansion is needed. Design procedures of the proposed antenna array have been described in detail, simulations and measurements of the proposed antenna array have also been carried out to validate its performance in this article.  相似文献

In this article, a novel design of compact cavity‐backed slot antenna based on substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) technology is presented for dual‐frequency communication services. A single layer printed circuit board is applied to implement the proposed antenna. The bowtie‐ring slot engraved on the SIW square cavity is excited using two orthogonal microstrip feed lines to operate at two distinct frequencies (6.62 GHz and 11.18 GHz). The proposed antenna allows each of these frequencies to be designed independently. A prototype of the proposed cavity‐backed antenna that radiates at both 6.62 GHz and 11.18 GHz is fabricated and measured. The port isolation better than 29.3 dB is achieved by utilizing the transmission zeros (TZs), which are produced due to the orthogonal feed lines, TE110 mode and coupling between the TE120 and TE210 modes. The measured peak gains of the proposed diplexing antenna are 5.77 dBi and 5.81 dBi at lower and upper resonating frequencies, respectively. The proposed dual‐frequency antenna exhibits the front‐to‐back‐ratio (FTBR) and cross‐polarization level greater than 26 dB and 21 dB, respectively, at both resonating frequencies.  相似文献

The purpose of this study is to investigate the application of a polarization conversion meatasurface for constructing a low profile, wideband circularly polarized slot antenna, which consists of a new Polarization conversion metasurface (PCM)‐based square‐corner‐cut artificial magnetic conductor cell structure and a feeding slot antenna. PCM possesses two frequency points of polarization rotation (PR), produced by appropriately adjusting width between the two triangular metallic patches. A 39.3% (4.7‐7 GHz) of big PR band was realized through the combination of two neighboring PR frequency points. The impedance bandwidth of PCM based patch antenna was measured to be 43.5% (4.5‐7 GHz), with 17.2% (5.3‐6.3 GHz) of 3 dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth and 0.045λ0 of profile. It also generated 7.3 dBic of high broadside gain in operational bandwidth.  相似文献

A very compact ultra‐wideband (UWB) slot antenna with three L‐shaped slots for notched‐band characteristics is presented in this article. The antenna is designed and fabricated using a new stepped slot with different size, integrated in the ground plane, and excited by a 50 Ω microstrip transmission line. The stepped slot is used to minimize the dimensions of the antenna and to achieve an impedance bandwidth between 2.65 and 11.05 GHz with voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) less than 2. The length of the stepped slot is equal to a quarter wavelength to create a resonance in the desired frequency. Three L‐shaped slots with various sizes are etched in the ground plane to reject three frequency bands in C‐band (3.7‐4.2 GHz), WLAN (5.15‐5.825 GHz), and X‐band (7.25‐7.75 GHz), respectively. The notched‐band frequency can be controlled by changing the length of the L‐shaped slot. The proposed antenna has a very small size (20.25 × 8 × 1.27 mm3) compared with previous works. The measured and simulated results show a good agreement in terms of radiation pattern and impedance matching.  相似文献

A planar and compact substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) cavity backed antenna and a 2 × 2 multi‐input multi‐output (MIMO) antenna are presented in this study. The proposed antenna is fed by a grounded coplanar waveguide (GCPW) to SIW type transition and planned to be used for millimeter‐wave (mm‐wave) fifth generation (5G) wireless communications that operates at 28, 38, 45, and 60 GHz frequency bands. Moreover, the measured impedance bandwidth (|S11| ≤ ? 10 dB ) of the antenna covers 27.55 to 29.36, 37.41 to 38.5, 44.14 to 46.19, and 57.57 to 62.32 GHz bands and confirms the quad‐band characteristic. Omni‐directional radiation characteristics are observed in the far‐field radiation pattern measurements of the antenna over the entire operating frequency. The reported antenna is compact in size (9.7 × 13.3 × 0.6 mm3) and the gain values at each resonance frequency are measured as 3.26, 3.28, 3.34, and 4.51 dBi, respectively. Furthermore, the MIMO antenna performance is evaluated in terms of isolation, envelope correlation coefficient and diversity gain.  相似文献
