Because of disadvantages of fossil fuels, renewable energy sources are getting importance for sustainable energy development and environmental protection. Among the renewable sources, Iran has geothermal energy potential. The Iranian government is considerable attention to the utilization of renewable energy, especially wind, solar and geothermal energies. Due to recent advancements in geothermal energy, many investors in the country have become interested in investing in this type of energy. Geothermal studies in Iran started in 1975 with a cooperative between the ministry of Energy of Iran and ENEL Company from Italy. Preliminary studies indicated potential for geothermal power generation in four areas in northern Iran (Khoy-Maku, Sabalan, Sahand and Damavand at Azarbaijan Gharbi, Ardebil, Azarbaijan Sharghi and Tehran provinces), respectively. Geothermal development in Iran has gained momentum in the last five years with increased exploration and industry growth in the country. Iran is developing a geothermal plant for power production. Iran government plans to build 2000 MW of renewable energy capacity over the next five years. Total projected use (geothermal capacity) has been estimated 100 MW at the end of 2010. Exploration drilling is currently in-progress for Meshkinshahr project in North-Western Iran. The Sabalan geothermal power plant is expected to produce 50 MW electric powers in 2011. The plants are planned by Iran Ministry of Energy and the Renewable Energy Organization of Iran (SUNA). This study presents a brief introduction to the resource, status and prospect of geothermal energy in Iran.  相似文献

Higher demand for energy consumption and importance of environmental issues has encouraged researchers and policy makers to consider renewable energies more seriously. Geothermal resources are a green energy source that can make a considerable contribution in some countries. Japan has the third ranking geothermal energy potential, and its geothermal electricity production is currently eighth in the world. Since the nature of geothermal resources dictates its method of utilization, it is important to categorize available resources. There is no consensus on classification of geothermal resources. Most scientists, from geologist to engineers, agree on the term temperature. However, temperature or enthalpy alone cannot describe the nature of fluids; they can have same temperature with different phases, such as saturated water or saturated steam. Using exergy for resource classification benefits their comparison, according to their ability to do work. In this paper, exergetic classification of geothermal resources was applied to 18 under‐operating geothermal power plants in Japan. Six geothermal fields have high exergy resources according to their SExI values in excess of 0.5. The remaining geothermal fields in Japan are classified in the medium resources zone. Classification results can be used by decision makers as a reference for future geothermal development. Copyright © 2012 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

There is an urgent and compelling need to develop innovative and more effective ways to integrate sustainable renewable energy solutions into the already existing systems or, better yet, create new systems that all together make use of renewable energy. This study aims to establish the optimum working conditions of a geothermal preheater in a power plant that makes use of both renewable and nonrenewable energy resources, where renewable (geothermal) energy is used to boost the power output in an environmentally sustainable way. Hence, two models, one, a simplified model of a Rankine cycle with single reheat and regeneration, and another, with a geothermal preheater substituting the low-pressure feedwater heater (LPFWH), were compared. The Engineering Equations Solver software was used to perform an analysis of the thermodynamic performance of the two models designed. An analysis was done to evaluate the energetic and exergetic effects of replacing a LPFWH with a geothermal preheater sourcing heat from a low temperature geothermal resource (100°C-160°C). Results from the thermodynamic analysis reveal that the hybridization boosts the power output by approximately 4% and it is superior in terms of the second law. Entropy generation minimization analysis was then employed to establish optimal working conditions of the hybrid system (ie, the geothermal preheater modeled as a downhole coaxial heat exchanger).  相似文献

The energy needs of Turkey, especially electricity and heating, will eventually increase in the next years since Turkey is one of the developing countries. The current energy policy of Turkey is mainly based on the fossil fuels and natural gases. However, the fossil fuels and natural gas are extremely harmful energy resources for environment as the emissions of greenhouse gases are very high level. Therefore, a long-term renewable energy policy planning should be developed. In this study, the evaluation of renewable energy resources for Turkey is accomplished using intuitionistic fuzzy Visekriterijumsko Kompromisno Rangiranje method in which criteria are expressed in both a quantitative and qualitative way for the first time in the literature. In the evaluation process, wind, hydro, solar, geothermal, and biomass are evaluated. Four main criteria – technological, environmental, sociological, and economic – are considered as main evaluation criteria and totally 12 subcriteria related to main criteria are also taken into consideration. Moreover, the sensitivity analysis has been conducted to identify which renewable energy resource is a better option under different circumstances.  相似文献

Turkey is an energy importing nation with more than half of our energy requirements met by imported fuels. Air pollution is becoming a significant environmental concern in the country. In this regard, geothermal energy and other renewable energy sources are becoming attractive solution for clean and sustainable energy future for Turkey. Turkey is the seventh richest country in the world in geothermal energy potential. The main uses of geothermal energy are space heating and domestic hot water supply, greenhouse heating, industrial processes, heat pumps and electricity generation. The district heating system applications started with large-scale, city-based geothermal district heating systems in Turkey, whereas the geothermal district heating centre and distribution networks have been designed according to the geothermal district heating system (GDHS) parameters. This constitutes an important advantage of GDHS investments in the country in terms of the technical and economical aspects. In Turkey, approximately 61,000 residences are currently heated by geothermal fluids. A total of 665 MWt is utilized for space heating of residential, public and private property, and 565,000 m2 of greenhouses. The proven geothermal heat capacity, according to data from existing geothermal wells and natural discharges, is 3132 MWt. Present applications have shown that geothermal energy is clean and much cheaper compared to the other fossil and renewable energy sources for Turkey.  相似文献

One of the greatest problems in using renewable energy sources is the great variability of energy level, both in the short and long term. Geothermal energy, by nature, has high availability because the source is not dependent on weather conditions, so it is among the most stable renewable energy sources. Geothermal energy has the potential to play an important role in the future energy supply of Turkey. Although Turkey has the second-highest geothermal energy potential in Europe, electricity generation from geothermal energy is rather low. This study examines the use of geothermal energy in electricity generation and investigates the applicability of the existent geothermal energy resources to electricity generation in the Kütahya–Simav region, Turkey. The binary cycle is used in the designed power plant for electricity generation from geothermal fluid in which the percentage of liquid is high and which is at lower temperature. In this power plant, R134a is chosen as the secondary fluid, whose boiling point temperature is lower than that of water, and is used instead of geothermal fluid in a second cycle. The thermal efficiency of the designed power plant is measured to be 12.93%.  相似文献

In this work, renewable energy facilities of Turkey were investigated. Electricity is mainly produced by thermal power plants, consuming coal, lignite, natural gas, fuel oil and geothermal energy, and hydro power plants in Turkey. Turkey has no large oil and gas reserves. The main indigenous energy resources are lignite, hydro and biomass. Turkey has to adopt new, long-term energy strategies to reduce the share of fossil fuels in primary energy consumption. For these reasons, the development and use of renewable energy sources and technologies are increasingly becoming vital for sustainable economic development of Turkey. The most significant developments in renewable production are observed hydropower and geothermal energy production. Renewable electricity facilities mainly include electricity from biomass, hydropower, geothermal, and wind and solar energy sources. Biomass cogeneration is a promising method for production bioelectricity.  相似文献

Hydrogen is a valuable energy resource and it is widespread in nature. As a matter of fact, researches on hydrogen production are currently experiencing an increasing interest from scientists around the world since this resource is clean and renewable. Several methods of producing hydrogen have been developed in industrialized countries such as the United States of America and Germany. This paper is interested in the process by which hydrogen sulfide of geothermal areas is exploited for hydrogen production. In fact, research advances in this field have concluded that hydrogen sulfide of geothermal resources can contribute significantly and economically in the process of hydrogen generation. The present paper was principally conducted from a literature study and a synthesis of works achieved in recent years in order to highlight the various aspects of hydrogen production from hydrogen sulfide and particularly to study the possibility of the exploitation of Algeria’s thermal resources in this field.  相似文献

This study examined the renewable energies and their impact on the economies of the Group of Seven (G7) countries. Results showed that the electricity produced from wind energy in the United States and then Germany is more than any other member countries. Due to its voluminous volcanoes, Italy has had favorable conditions for the development of geothermal energy, which has led it to be used as an efficient energy source in Italy. Results also showed that the installed capacity of geothermal systems is the lowest and hydropower systems are the highest in all G7 countries. It also concluded that, despite the high share of hydropower energy from total renewable energy capacity, the use of wind and solar energies is rapidly rising. As a result, it found that the development of solar energy occurs faster than the other renewable energies.  相似文献

Turkey is one of the countries with significant potential in geothermal energy. It is estimated that if Turkey utilizes all of her geothermal potential, she can meet 14% of her total energy need (heat and electricity) from geothermal sources. Therefore, today geothermal energy is an attractive option in Turkey to replace fossil fuels. Besides, increase in negative effects of fossil fuels on the environment has forced many countries, including Turkey, to use renewable energy sources. Also, Turkey is an energy importing country; more than two-thirds of her energy requirement is supplied by imports. In this context, geothermal energy appears to be one of the most efficient and effective solutions for sustainable energy development and environmental pollution prevention in Turkey. Since geothermal energy will be used more and more in the future, its current potential, usage, and assessment in Turkey is the focus of the present study. The paper not only presents a review of the potential and utilization of the geothermal energy in Turkey but also provides some guidelines for policy makers.  相似文献

The use of geothermal energy and its associated technologies has been increasing worldwide. However, there has been little paradigmatic research conducted in this area. This paper proposes a systematic methodology to research the development trends for the sustainable development of geothermal energy. A novel data analysis system was created to research the geothermal energy utilization trends, and a technological paradigm theory was adopted to explain the technological changes. A diffusion velocity model was used to simulate and forecast the geothermal power generation development in the diffusion phase. Simulation results showed that the development of installed capacity for geothermal generation had a strong inertia force along with the S-curve. Power generation from geothermal power sources reached a peak in 2008 and is estimated to be saturated by 2030. Geothermal energy technologies in hybrid power systems based on other renewable energy sources look to be more promising in the future.  相似文献

The aim of this paper was to outline a proposed a new brackish water greenhouse desalination unit powered by geothermal energy for the development of arid and relatively cold regions, using Algeria as a case study. Countries which have abundant sea/brackish water resources and good geothermal conditions are ideal candidates for producing fresh water from sea/brackish water. The establishment of human habitats in these arid areas strongly depends on availability of fresh water. The main advantage of using geothermal energy to power brackish water greenhouse desalination units is that this renewable energy source can provide power 24 h a day. This resource is generally invariant with less intermittence problems compared to other renewable resources such as solar or wind energy. Geothermal resources can both be used to heat the greenhouses and to provide fresh water needed for irrigation of the crops cultivated inside the greenhouses. A review of the geothermal potential in the case study country is also outlined.  相似文献

Geothermal energy is a renewable and alternative energy with the potential to replace fossil fuels and help mitigate global warming. However, the development of geothermal energy has environmental, economic and social-cultural consequences, which needs to be predicted beforehand and then mitigated. To guarantee a sustainable development, it is, therefore, essential to consider the relative potential impacts. From a sustainability point of view, in the present study, a comprehensive analysis of consequences of geothermal energy development is conducted, including environmental, economic and societal & cultural dimensions. The geothermal energy industry will prosper only if sustainable aspects can be integrally considered.  相似文献
