In this paper the performance of delta modulation (DM) systems have been studied by computer simulation when the input signal to the DM coder is a voiceband data signal. First, the parameter values of three DM systems, linear DM (LDM), constant factor DM (CFDM), and continuously variable slope DM (CVSD) has been optimized for 4800 bits/s differential phase shift keying (DPSK) signal. Then, the performance of the three DM systems have been studied for ideal and noisy channels. It has been found that the peak signal-to-quantization-noise ratio (SQNR) is nearly the same regardless of coding scheme used, but CFDM yields the widest dynamic range. In a noisy channel, however, CFDM is very sensitive to channel bit errors. Considering the overall performance, CVSD appears to be the best among the three DM systems studied. Also, the performances of DM's have been compared with those of PCM and DPCM systems. In addition, we have studied the effect of DM quantization noise on modem bit error rate by the Monte Carlo simulation method. It is possible to transmit a 4800 bits/s DPSK signal at a bit error rate below 10-5by CVSD with the rate of 32 kbits/s. 相似文献

This paper considers the realization of an all-digital system for direct filtering of a delta modulation (DM) encoded signal. We have shown [1] that this system can be realized fairly easily for any type of filter function when the signals are encoded with a linear DM. We now address the problem of digitally filtering an adaptive DM (ADM) encoded signal. We show that we can again realize any type of filter function and our system will operate directly on the ADM bit stream. In addition, we present a circuit realization that does not require complex digital hardware. Performance has been tested via simulation on a digital computer, using a variety of test signals; both temporal and spectral results are presented. 相似文献

This concise paper is concerned with the problem of improved delta-coding by using delayed decision instead of bit-bit-by-bit decision. It is found that delayed encoding allows a fairly general predictor to be used without causing instability problems. Simulations indicate that considerable improvement can be achieved by matching the feedback filter to the input process. Delayed encoding requires a search algorithm for making the decisions. Some proposals of algorithms that are efficient from a computational point of view are presented. Particular interest is attached to a highly truncated version of the Viterbi algorithm, which seems very promising. 相似文献

This paper reports upon the results of tests of the transmission of data over single- and multiple-hop companded delta modulation (DM) systems. The DM coder-decoder (CODEC) was optimized for voice transmission. Modem bit error rate (BER) achievable over the range of 1200-9600 bits/s is presented. A comparison with the performance of pulse code modulation (PCM) is included. The comparison indicates that the two systems are comparable for error-free digital lines but favors the DM system for lines with errors. 相似文献

We present a reasonably complete account of an improved adaptive delta modulation (ADM) system called hybrid companding delta modulation (HCDM). The HCDM system that is far superior to continuously variable slope DM (CVSD) or constant factor DM (CFDM) is advantageous, particularly for speech coding. It employs both syllabic and instantaneous companding schemes. Performance analysis of the system has been done and verified by computer simulation. In getting the mathematical formula for HCDM granular noise, a new method based on amplitude distribution is proposed. Optimization of the system parameter values by simulation is also discussed. A continuous phase modulation (CPM) implementation alternative of a recently standardized class of Feher-patented quadrature phase-shift keying (F-QPSK-B) modulation is proposed. Based on the fact that the F-QPSK-B signal has a quasi-constant envelope and continuous phase characteristics, it is shown that it can indeed be generated by the CPM scheme. For example, an F-QPSK-B signal can be fully generated using an existing FM-based transmitter with a modulation index of 0.5. Furthermore, a premodulation filter and an alternating change monitor differential encoder for the continuous-phase-modulated F-QPSK-B signal to be fully compatible with the I/Q modulated F-QPSK-B signal are proposed, allowing direct symbol-by-symbol coherent detection without the use of any special decoding schemes inherent in all CPM schemes. It is shown that the power spectral density and eye diagram of the continuous-phase-modulated F-QPSK-B signal are practically the same as those of the I/Q modulated F-QPSK-B signal. By utilizing CPM characteristics, an optimum maximum-likelihood (ML) coherent receiver for the F-QPSK-B signal is proposed. It is shown that the bit-error-rate performances of the optimum ML coherent detection, symbol-by-symbol coherent detection, and noncoherent detection of the continuous-phase-modulated F-QPSK-B signal are almost the same as those of the I/Q modulated F-QPSK-B signal 相似文献

Decimation is an important component of oversampled analog-to-digital conversion. It transforms the digitally modulated signal from short words occurring at high sampling rate to longer words at the Nyquist rate. Here we are concerned with the initial stage of decimation, where the word rate decreases to about four times the Nyquist rate. We show that digital filters comprising cascades of integrate-and-dump functions can match the structure of the noise from sigma delta modulation to provide decimation with negligible loss of signal-to-noise ratio. Explicit formulas evaluate particular tradeoffs between modulation rate, signal-to-noise ratio, length of digital words, and complexity of the modulating and decimating functions. 相似文献

The analysis of the performance of a delta modulator with a Wiener process input is considered. The mean and the variance of the steady-state squared error are derived. In addition, the mean of the steady-state error of order four is calculated. It is shown that the behavior of all these moments as functions of the step size Δ and the sampling intervalT is similar: for each fixed Δ, the moments are monotonically increasing inT . More important, for each fixedT , there exists an optimal step size Δopt which minimizes each of these moments. It is shown that Δopt is a multiple ofT^{1/2} and that the corresponding minimum value of the moments is a multiple of eitherT or T2, depending on the order of the moment. 相似文献

调制制式识别是信号自适应传输系统中的一项重要技术。研究表明,传统调制制式识别在训练样本有限情况下性能不佳。而基于支撑矢量机的调制分类器采用结构风险最小化原则,在样本有限情况下仍能达到较好性能。通过分析和研究,首次提出结合高阶累积量和多尺度小波分解两种特征的调制制式识别算法。该算法结合高阶累积量对调相信号以及小波特征量对多载波信号识别的突出优点,实现了多种信号的一步识别。通过对该算法在多种常见信号上的应用进行分析和仿真,证明其性能优于传统调制制式识别算法。 相似文献

提出了一种对经过符号成形的调制信号进行识别的新算法,利用特征参数提取与决策树分类器相结合对8种常用数字信号进行调制识别。首先详细介绍了符号成形对调制信号及信号瞬时参数提取的影响,然后选取特征参数通过决策树分类器进行识别分类,最后进行了计算机仿真,仿真表明该算法能够有效识别经符号成形的数字信号,且与无符号成形的数字信号调制识别方法相比。有着更好的识别性能。 相似文献
