The current trend in miniaturization of products and components requires appropriate technologies for the manufacture of miniature dies and moulds. The work presented here deals with the process planning of micromilling for the production of miniature mould cavities, required in ultrasonic moulding in order to reach high precision. Several aspects of process planning are addressed, including cutting tool geometry selection, segmentation of cavity geometry, minimum chip thickness, chordal tolerance, and type of interpolation. The case study involves the successful micromilling of a complex aluminium mould cavity for ultrasonic moulding. The proposed process plan is demonstrated through the micromilling of the mould cavity and silicone replicas of the miniature geometrical model. In general terms, good precision is obtained following the proposed methodology. In a randomly located set of geometric features, the dimensional error was below 5% for most features (32 out of a total of 40). 相似文献

Datum dimensioning (or ordinate dimensioning) technique is very popular in plastic injection mould drawings where the location
dimensions of a large number of hole features must be specified in the drawings of the mould plates. Although commercial CAD/CAM
systems provide semi-automatic tools to assist the designer in the dimensioning process, it is still a very tedious process,
as the user has to specify the location of each dimension tag. This paper reports a completely automatic method where optimal
placements of the dimension tags can be determined. The method employs dynamic programming technique to optimize the dimension
process with respect to several criteria that can be selected by the user. The method has been implemented and incorporated
into a commercial CAD/CAM system, and examples are given to illustrate the important features of the program. 相似文献

Modern manufacturing systems are increasingly required to be flexible and adaptable to changing market demands, which adds
to their structural and operational complexity. One of the major challenges at the early design stages is to select a manufacturing
system configuration that both satisfies the production functional requirements and is easy to operate and manage. A new metric
for assessing the structural complexity of manufacturing system configurations is presented in this paper. The proposed complexity
metric incorporates the quantity of information using an entropy approach. It accounts for the complexity inherent in the
various modules in the manufacturing system through the use of an index derived from a newly developed manufacturing systems
classification code. The code captures the effect of various component types and technologies used in a manufacturing system
on the system’s structural complexity. The presented metric would be helpful in selecting the least complex manufacturing
system configuration that meets the requirements. An engine cylinder head production system is used to illustrate the application
of the proposed methodology in comparing feasible but different manufacturing system configurations capable of producing the
cylinder head based on their structurally inherent complexity. 相似文献
