This paper presents the results and conclusions regarding the optimisation of the charge obtained throughout a thorough development study performed with a reversible water-to-water heat pump using propane as refrigerant. The paper first describes the influence of the charge on the capacity and COP of the unit at given operating conditions and then analyses the causes of such influence. Then, the theoretical study carried out with a detailed mathematical model to estimate the amount of refrigerant in each part of the unit is discussed. The second part of the paper is devoted to analysing the influence of the design of the evaporator (BPHE with and without integrated orifice distributor) and the operating conditions on the optimal charge. Finally, the effect of employing a POE or a mineral oil for lubrication on both performance and optimal charge is discussed. 相似文献

A typical transcritical CO 2 system shows lower performance than conventional air conditioners in cooling mode operation. In addition, the CO 2 system shows a large variation of the performance according to refrigerant charge whereas the conventional systems do not show large variation. In this study, the performance of the CO 2 heat pump was measured and analyzed by varying the refrigerant charge amount at standard cooling condition. In addition, the performance sensitivity of the CO 2 system as a function of refrigerant charge was compared to those for the R22, R410A, and R407C systems. The cooling COP of the CO 2 system was reduced more significantly at undercharged conditions than at overcharged conditions as the deviation from the optimal charge increased. The expansion loss was the dominant factor affecting system performance at undercharged conditions, while the gascooler loss became the major parameter at overcharged conditions. Among the systems investigated and compared in this study, the CO 2 system showed the most reduction in performance at undercharged conditions. 相似文献

An ammonia/water mixture can be used as an efficient working fluid in industrial-type heat recovery heat pumps and heat transformers. Several configurations of such systems are possible depending on the availability of the waste (thermal) and primary (thermal or electrical) energy sources. This article presents the configurations, the main thermodynamic and hydraulic parameters, and some design guidelines and operating experiences of a medium-temperature, ammonia/water-based compression/re-sorption heat recovery system for district domestic hot water production. In-field experiments have proven the advantages of the concept and its applicability limits in a particular economical environment, while hot water was produced at 55 °C with industrial cooling water at 36 °C as a waste heat source. 相似文献

This paper reports experimental results of an on/off cycling domestic refrigerator at varied expansion device capacity (EDC), quantity of charge and ambient temperature. It was found that the energy consumption is insensitive to varied EDC and charge within a wide range of settings. For the charge this is explained by the low side accumulator, which buffers over- and undercharge. It was also found that the optimum charge increased at lower ambient temperature. The paper describes an experimental procedure on how to determine the capillary tube length and the quantity of charge for a domestic refrigerator/freezer. This procedure is recommended since it takes different thermal masses and loads into consideration and since the potential for energy saving with a more sophisticated method appears to be limited. 相似文献

A cryogenic loop heat pipe (CLHP) has been developed for future aerospace applications at the Technical Institute of Physics and Chemistry (TIPC). It has been demonstrated that this CLHP, when placed horizontally, can operate in liquid-nitrogen temperature range and have a heat transfer capability of up to 12 W with proper working fluid inventory. This paper presents some particular characteristics of the CLHP when the compensation chamber is half-filled with liquid-phase working fluid before startup. The device has been tested at different orientations using nitrogen as the working fluid in order to compare its thermal behavior, specially related to the heat transfer capability, the operation temperature and the thermal resistance, as well as to investigate its operational characteristics under power level as low as 1 W. Tests were performed for the CLHP at horizontal position and with the liquid line 3.4 and 6.4 cm below the vapor line, respectively. The experimental results show the operationability of the CLHP tested at three orientations and tests with the liquid line 6.4 cm below the vapor line show lower operation temperatures and higher heat transfer capability. 相似文献

This paper presents experimental results from a prototype ammonia chiller with an air-cooled condenser and a plate evaporator. The main objectives were charge reduction and compactness of the system. The charge is reduced to 20 g/kW (2.5 oz/Ton). This is lower than any currently available air-cooled ammonia chiller on the market. The major contribution comes from use of microchannel aluminum tubes. Two aluminum condensers were evaluated in the chiller: one with a parallel tube arrangement between headers and “microchannel” tubes (hydraulic diameter Dh = 0.7 mm), and the other with a single serpentine “macrochannel” tube ( Dh = 4.06 mm). The performances of the chiller and condensers are compared based on various criteria to other available ammonia chillers. This prototype was made and examined in the Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Center in 1998, at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. 相似文献

Refrigerant vapor-injection technique has been well justified to improve the performance of systems in refrigeration applications. However, it has not received much attention for air conditioning applications, particularly for air conditioning in hot climates and for heat pumping in cold climates. In this study, the performance of an 11 kW R410A heat pump system with a two-stage vapor-injected scroll compressor was experimentally investigated. The vapor-injected scroll compressor was tested with the cycle options of both flash tank and internal heat exchanger configurations. A cooling capacity gain of around 14% with 4% COP improvement at the ambient temperature of 46.1 °C and about 30% heating capacity improvement with 20% COP gain at the ambient temperature of −17.8 °C were found for the vapor-injected R410A heat pump system as compared to the conventional system which has the same compressor displacement volume. 相似文献

This study is concerned with a hot gas (refrigerant) bypass method to retard the formation and propagation of frost in an air-source heat pump. The feasibility of the hot gas bypass method was investigated experimentally and the method's performance is compared with that of a normal, 1.12 kW capacity air-source heat pump system with no defrost equipment such as an electric resistance heater. Results indicate that the hot gas bypass method is useful for retarding the formation and growth of frost at the outdoor coil. The best performance is shown under a bypass refrigerant flow rate of 0.2 kg/min (20% of the whole system refrigerant flow rate). During 210 min of heat pump operation, the hot gas bypass method improved COP and heating capacity at an average of 8.5% and 5.7%, respectively, relative to the normal system. 相似文献

This experimental study is carried out to investigate reliability and effectiveness of a new method of using photo-coupler for detecting frost formation in an air source heat pump, and further to determine the most efficient initiation point of the defrost cycle. This new method of using photo-coupler as a frost sensing device is evaluated by comparing its performance with conventional time control defrost system in which defrost cycle is set to start at predetermined interval, e.g. about at every 1–1.5 h. Results indicate that overall heating capacity of photo-coupler detection method (case IV) is 5.5% higher than that of time control method. It is also shown that for maximum efficiency the defrost cycle must be initiated before the frost build-up area exceeds 45% of total front surface of the outdoor coil. 相似文献

A series of experiments were conducted on a heat pump equipped with a distillation column. The system was operated with R32 and with a 30/70% by mass mixture of R32/134a to examine the difference between the transient performance trends with a pure fluid (R32), and those with a zeotropic mixture (R32/134a). Additionally, the effects of varying heat transfer fluid mass flow, compressor speed, and accumulator sump heat input were examined. Each test was 1 h in duration. The heat pump capacities did not generally achieve steady state during the R32/134a tests. Steady state was generally achieved during the R32 tests. As a percentage of the final (end-of-test) capacity, the rate of capacity increase was greater during the R32/134a tests than during those conducted with the pure fluid. The R32/134a tests exhibited capacity oscillations early in each transient that were not present during the R32 tests. The results show that circulating refrigerant mass and composition are the primary controlling factors with regard to transient capacity. 相似文献

Estimates are provided for R-1234ze(Z) of its: (1) critical temperature, pressure, and density, acentric factor, and ideal gas specific heat at constant pressure, and (2) various thermodynamic and transport properties, which are used to predict the performance potential of R-1234ze(Z) in high-temperature heat pumping applications. In particular, for an idealized cycle, the coefficient of performance and volumetric heating capacity for R-114 are 3.24 and 1667 kW m −3, respectively, and for R-1234ze(Z) are 3.40 and 1645 kW m −3, respectively. The attractiveness of R-1234ze(Z) is confirmed further through heat exchanger simulations. This paper demonstrates that R-1234ze(Z) deserves further consideration as a possible R-114 replacement. 相似文献

This paper presents a novel concept to integrate a heat pump system and a power system which form a hybrid-power gas engine-driven heat pump (HPGHP) system. The power system of the HPGHP system includes an engine, a motor, a set of battery packs, a continuous variable transmission device and a power-control module. The engine in the power system is capable of operating constantly with high thermal efficiency and low emissions during the four different operating modes: for operating mode A, the ICE powers directly to match the compressor's demand load by throttling the natural-gas flow or adjusting the speed of the ICE, correspondingly the battery packs are disengaged and the ICE operates alone; for operating mode B, the ICE operates in the unique condition with the lowest fuel consumption ratio, meanwhile, the battery packs discharge to provide the supplementary power by the power-control module; for operating mode C, the ICE operates in the unique condition with the lowest fuel consumption ratio, and the redundant power provided by the ICE is converted by the motor to charge the battery packs, here, the motor is used as a generator; for operating mode D, the ICE is disengaged and the battery pack is used alone. Simulation results of the power system showed that for a conventional gas engine-driven heat pump (GHP) system the maximum and minimum thermal efficiencies of the power system are 33% and 22%, respectively; compared with the conventional GHP system, the power system in the novel HPGHP system has superior performance with the maximum and minimum thermal efficiencies of 37% and 27%, respectively. 相似文献

A method is presented for predicting the viscosity of liquid refrigerant mixtures. The method has no adjustable parameters and, in essence, relies upon the knowledge of the viscosity of the pure components to predict the viscosity of a mixture by means of kinetic theory and rigid-sphere formalism. The predictions have been compared with the available experimental data for a number of refrigerant mixtures. Based on this comparison and previous studies, the accuracy of the proposed method is assessed to be of the order of ±7%. 相似文献

This paper reports heat transfer results obtained during condensation of refrigerant propane inside a minichannel aluminium heat exchanger vertically mounted in an experimental setup simulating a water-to-water heat pump. The condenser was constructed of multiport minichannel aluminium tubes assembled as a shell-and-tube heat exchanger. Propane vapour entered the condenser tubes via the top end and exited sub-cooled from the bottom. Coolant water flowed upward on the shell-side. The heat transfer areas of the tube-side and the shell-side of the condenser were 0.941 m 2 and 0.985 m 2, respectively. The heat transfer rate between the two fluids was controlled by varying the evaporation temperature while the condensation temperature was fixed. The applied heat transfer rate was within 3900–9500 W for all tests. Experiments were performed at constant condensing temperatures of 30 °C, 40 °C and 50 °C, respectively. The cooling water flow rate was maintained at 11.90 l min −1 for all tests. De-superheating length, two-phase length, sub-cooling length, local heat transfer coefficients and average heat transfer coefficients of the condenser were calculated. The experimental heat transfer coefficients were compared with predictions from correlations found in the literature. The experimental heat transfer coefficients in the different regions were higher than those predicted by the available correlations. 相似文献

This paper reports a double-stage coupled heat pumps (DSCHP) heating system, which couples air source heat pump (ASHP) and water source heat pump (WSHP) together. The system is presented for the first time in open literature with the objective to improve the working condition and heating performance of the ASHP under cold environment. A practical project in Beijing firstly installed this system and field test has been performed for one month. The test results indicate that the DSCHP system can be smoothly and efficiently used for heating in cold regions. Compared with the traditional ASHP heating system, the operating characteristics of the DSCHP heating system are greatly improved, demonstrating that the system can offer considerable application potential in cold regions. 相似文献

Ammonia has been used as refrigerant in large vapour compression systems continuously since the beginning of the era of refrigeration. In small systems, it has hardly been used at all since the introduction of the halogenated hydrocarbons around 1930. Lately, with the search for alternatives with less influence on global warming, the use of ammonia in small systems has come into focus again.In the present paper, the work done at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) with the aim of developing a prototype of a domestic water to water heat pump with a heating capacity of 9 kW is presented. It has been shown that such a system can be designed to operate with about 100 g of ammonia.Crucial problems in the development of the direct expansion system were to arrange for oil return, and to achieve good heat transfer in the evaporator. These problems were solved by use of an oil which is soluble in ammonia.The main obstacle for introducing this technology commercially is the limited supply of components. The aim of this study is to demonstrate the usefulness of an adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS) for the modelling of ground-coupled heat pump (GCHP) system. The GCHP system connected to a test room with 16.24 m 2 floor area in Fırat University, Elazığ (38.41°N, 39.14°E), Turkey, was designed and constructed. The heating and cooling loads of the test room were 2.5 and 3.1 kW at design conditions, respectively. The system was commissioned in November 2002 and the performance tests have been carried out since then. The average performance coefficients of the system (COPS) for horizontal ground heat exchanger (GHE) in the different trenches, at 1 and 2 m depths, were obtained to be 2.92 and 3.2, respectively. Experimental performances were performed to verify the results from the ANFIS approach. In order to achieve the optimal result, several computer simulations have been carried out with different membership functions and various number of membership functions. The most suitable membership function and number of membership functions are found as Gauss and 2, respectively. For this number level, after the training, it is found that root-mean squared (RMS) value is 0.0047, and absolute fraction of variance ( R2) value is 0.9999 and coefficient of variation in percent (cov) value is 0.1363. This paper shows that the values predicted with the ANFIS, especially with the hybrid learning algorithm, can be used to predict the performance of the GCHP system quite accurately. 相似文献

Performance improvement of an industrial single-stage compression/absorption heat pump (CAHP) using an ammonia/water mixture as the working fluid has been studied theoretically. By allowing a higher absorber pressure (40 bar) than the highest design pressure of today's screw compressors (25 bar), higher COPs could be obtained. Longer falling-film tubes in the vertical shell-and-tube absorber and desorber also increased the COP. These two modifications together increased the COP of the CAHP by 10%. The improved design has a lower optimal absorber glide (temperature difference due to composition change in absorber) and reduced solution heat exchanger sizes. The study was performed with a constant total area. Furthermore, the CAHP performance was studied for five heating cases. Its performance was compared to that of a two-stage compression heat pump (CHP) using isobutane as working fluid, on the basis of approximately equal investment cost. It could be concluded that only heating cases where both the sink and the source temperature changes are high (>20 K) give superior performance for the CAHP. 相似文献

A theoretical and experimental study has been carried out for a residential brine-to-water CO 2 heat pump system for combined space heating and hot water heating. A 6.5 kW prototype heat pump unit was constructed and extensively tested in order to document the performance and to study component and system behaviour over a wide range of operating conditions. The CO 2 heat pump was equipped with a unique counter-flow tripartite gas cooler for preheating of domestic hot water (DHW), low-temperature space heating and reheating of DHW. The CO2 heat pump was tested in three different modes: space heating only, DHW heating only and simultaneous space heating and DHW heating. The heat pump unit gave off heat to a floor heating system at supply/return temperatures of 33/28, 35/30 or 40/35 °C, and the set-point temperature for the DHW was 60, 70 or 80 °C. Most tests were carried out at an evaporation temperature of −5 °C, and the average city water temperature was 6.5 °C. The experimental results proved that a brine-to-water CO2 heat pump system may achieve the same or higher seasonal performance factor (SPF) than the most energy efficient state-of-the-art brine-to-water heat pump systems as long as: (1) the heating demand for hot water production constitutes at least 25% of the total annual heating demand of the residence, (2) the return temperature in the space heating system is about 30 °C or lower, (3) the city water temperature is about 10 °C or lower and (4) the exergy losses in the DHW tank are small. 相似文献

Simulation analyses for a vapour compression heat pump cycle using nonazeotropic refrigerant mixtures (NARMs) of R22 and R114 are conducted under the condition that the heat pump thermal output and the flow rate and inlet temperatures of the heat sink and source water are given. The heat transfer coefficients of the condensation and evaporation are calculated with empirical correlations proposed by the authors. The validity of the evaluation method and the correlations is demonstrated by comparison with experimental data. The relations between the coefficient of performance (COP) and composition are shown under two conditions: (1) the constant heat transfer length of the condenser and evaporator; and (2) the constant temperature of refrigerant at the heat exchanger inlet. The COP of the NARMs is higher than that of pure refrigerant when the heat transfer lengths of the condenser and evaporator are sufficiently long. 相似文献
