We investigate the notion of per-user integrated location and service management in personal communication service (PCS) networks by which a per-user service proxy is created to serve as a gateway between the mobile user and all client-server applications engaged by the mobile user. The service proxy is always colocated with the mobile user's location database such that whenever the MU's location database moves during a location handoff, a service handoff also ensues to colocate the service proxy with the location database. This allows the proxy to know the location of the mobile user all the time to reduce the network communication cost for service delivery. We investigate four integrated location and service management schemes. Our results show that the centralized scheme performs the best when the mobile user's SMR (service to mobility ratio) is low and CMR (call to mobility ratio) is high, while the fully distributed scheme performs the best when both SMR and CMR are high. In all other conditions, the dynamic anchor scheme is the best except when the service context transfer cost is high, under which the static anchor scheme performs the best. Through analytical and simulation results, we demonstrate that different users with vastly different mobility and service patterns should adopt different integrated location and service management methods to optimize system performance. Further, the best integrated scheme always performs better than the best decoupled scheme that considers location and service managements separately and management schemes that do not use any service proxy.  相似文献

Application recovery in mobile database systems (MDS) is more complex because of an unlimited geographical mobility of mobile units. The mobility of these units makes it tricky to an store application log and access it for recovery. This paper presents an application log management scheme, which uses a mobile-agent-based framework to facilitate seamless logging of application activities for recovery from transaction or system failure. We compare the performance of our scheme with lazy, pessimistic, and frequency-based schemes through simulation and show that compared to these schemes, our scheme reduces overall recovery time by efficiently managing resources and handoffs.  相似文献

Mobility management protocols operating from different layers of the classical protocol stack (e.g., link, network, transport, and application layers) have been proposed in the last several years. These protocols achieve different handoff performance for different types of applications. In this paper, mobile applications are grouped into five different classes, class A through class E, based on their mobility management requirements. Analytical models are developed to investigate the handoff performance of the existing mobility management protocols for these application classes. The analysis shows that applications of a particular class experience different handoff performance when different mobility management protocols are used. Handoff performance comparisons of different mobility management protocols are carried out to decide on the suitable mobility management protocol for a particular application class. The results of mathematical analysis advocate the use of transport layer mobility management for class B and class C applications, mobile IP for non-real-time class D and class E applications, and session initiation protocol-based mobility management for real-time class D and class E applications. Moreover, through analytical modeling, the parameters that influence the handoff performance of mobility management protocols are identified. These parameters can be used to design new application-adaptive techniques to enhance the handoff performance of the existing mobility management protocols.  相似文献

Frequent handoff consumes a lot of system capability and signalling resources in a mobile system. In this paper, we present download mechanisms in mobile systems or broadcast systems to support data users to receive the whole packet in time before moving out of the coverage area. Three download strategies: Quick Download using Multi‐channel (QDM) scheme, Prior Download using Single channel (PDS) scheme and the Quit Download (QUD) scheme are proposed in this study where the efficiencies of the three strategies are compared with the one without particular treatment. Some significant estimations such as the percentage of handoff data users having completed service before leaving the cell, the mean waiting time of non‐handoff data users, and the blocking probability of data users are analysed and compared. The numerical results show that, the QDM strategy is most efficient in reducing the handoff rate, the QUD strategy can assure the waiting time of non‐handoff data users and the PDS strategy can keep the handoff rate constant at light and heavy voice load. Furthermore, various number of guard channels for data users are evaluated in terms of data and voice performance based on various download strategies. This paper studies the effects of user mobility and handoff path rerouting on the traffic distributions in a mobile network environment. In mobile ATM networks, extra traffic load may be added to network links due to user mobility and handoff path rerouting. This requires higher network link capacity and possible topology reengineering in order to support the same quality of service (QoS) for mobile services. To capture the dynamic variations in mobile ATM networks, we propose to use a flow model. The model represents the mobile-generated traffic as a set of stochastic flows over a set of origin-destination (OD) pairs. The user mobility is defined by transfer probabilities of the flows and the handoff path rerouting algorithm is modeled by a transformation between the routing functions for traffic flows. The analysis shows that user mobility may cause temporal variations as well as smoothing effects on the network traffic. Using the flow network model, typical handoff path rerouting algorithms are evaluated through both analytical and experimental approaches. The evaluation methodology can be used for either redesigning the network topology for a given path rerouting algorithm or selecting a path rerouting algorithm for a given network topology under a specific mobile service scenario  相似文献

In this paper, a bandwidth-efficient handoff strategy is proposed and analyzed for hierarchical cellular systems. Mobile subscribers are divided into two classes, i.e., low- and high-mobility subscribers. In our bandwidth-efficient handoff strategy, each of the originating and handoff calls of both slow and fast mobile subscribers first tries to get a channel in a microcell. Macrocells are overlaid over the microcells to handle overflowed calls. A call overflowed into a macrocell requests a take-back to the new microcell at each border crossing of the microcells. The request will be accommodated by the target microcell if there is any idle traffic channel in the cell. An analytical model is developed, and the most important performance measures such as the blocking probability of originating calls and the forced termination probability of calls are evaluated. It is shown through extensive comparisons with other candidate handoff strategies that if the total traffic load of the system is not very heavy, our scheme has the best bandwidth efficiency and can provide better quality of service for mobile subscribers without bringing too much processing expense to the system  相似文献

It is commonly held that next generation mobile systems will be developed on the Internet in combination with diverse access technologies, as the future network architecture will be the coming together of various overlapping wireless access networks. Integrating various wireless networks in future heterogeneous networking environments poses many difficulties, the most critical challenge of which is efficient support for seamless mobility. SIP is a promising nominee for managing mobility in heterogeneous networks as it provides mobility within the application layer and the characteristics of the lower layer protocols are invisible to it. However, the performance of SIP-based mobility management is downgraded, resulting from its adoption of TCP/UDP for signaling and its strict separation between the lower layers and the application layer of the protocol stack. In this paper, a SIP-based cross-layer design for fast handoffs is proposed to shorten the service interruption time when a mobile node crosses the overlapped area of a WLAN/3G cellular system. As will be shown by the simulation results, the SIP-based solution proposed in this paper effectively lessens the handoff delays caused by either the horizontal handoff or vertical handoff in future all-IP heterogeneous wireless networks.  相似文献

We consider the application of sequential Monte Carlo (SMC) methodology to the problem of joint mobility tracking and handoff detection in cellular wireless communication networks. Both mobility tracking and handoff detection are based on the measurements of pilot signal strengths from certain base stations. The dynamics of the system under consideration are described by a nonlinear state-space model. Mobility tracking involves an online estimation of the location and velocity of the mobile, whereas handoff detection involves an online prediction of the pilot signal strength at some future time instants. The optimal solutions to both problems are prohibitively complex due to the nonlinear nature of the system. The SMC methods are therefore employed to track the probabilistic dynamics of the system and to make the corresponding estimates and predictions. Both hard handoff and soft handoff are considered and three novel locally optimal (LO) handoff schemes are developed based on different criteria. It is seen that under the SMC framework, optimal mobility tracking and handoff detection can be implemented naturally in a joint fashion, and significant improvement is achieved over existing methods, in terms of both the tracking accuracy and the trade-off between service quality and resource utilization during handoff.  相似文献

Wireless networking is becoming an increasingly important and popular way of providing global information access to users on the move. One of the main challenges for seamless mobility is the availability of simple and robust vertical handoff algorithms, which allow a mobile node to roam among heterogeneous wireless networks. In this paper, motivated by the facts that vertical handoff procedure is done on mobile nodes and battery power may be one crucial parameter for certain mobile nodes, a simple and robust two-step vertical handoff decision algorithm is proposed for heterogeneous wireless mobile networks. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first vertical handoff algorithm that takes the classification of mobile nodes into consideration, one is resource-poor mobile nodes, and the other is resource-rich mobile nodes. This new feature makes it more applicable in the real world. In addition, dynamic new call blocking probability is firstly introduced by this paper to make handoff decision for wireless networks. The experiment results have shown that the proposed algorithm outperforms traditional algorithms in bandwidth utilization, handoff dropping rate and handoff rate.  相似文献

 由于移动节点的位置是不断变化的,移动IPv6协议给出了支持移动节点的远程加入和双向隧道两种组播方法,但这两种方法都有各自的缺点.本文提出基于移动预测的快速分层移动组播体系结构(mobility prediction based fast and hierarchical mobile multicast architecture,简称MP-FHMM),通过移动预测,在切换前为移动节点配置好切换信息,并且在切换时使用基于FMIPv6改进的快速组播切换方法,有效减少了切换延迟以及由此引发的组播数据分组丢失.另外,由于采用层次型结构的移动组播管理,屏蔽了节点在子网内的移动,减少了因节点移动而重构组播树的频率.  相似文献

With developments in voice over IP (VoIP), IP-based wireless data networks and their application services have received increased attention. While multimedia applications of mobile nodes are served by Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) as a signaling protocol, the mobility of mobile nodes may be supported via Mobile IP protocol. For a mobile node that uses both Mobile IP and SIP, there is a severe redundant registration overhead because the mobile node has to make location registration separately to a home agent for Mobile IP and to a home registrar for SIP, respectively. Therefore, we propose two new schemes that integrate mobility management functionality in Mobile IP and SIP. We show performance comparisons among the previous method, which makes separate registration for Mobile IP and SIP without integration, and our two integrated methods. Numerical results show that the proposed methods efficiently reduce the amount of signaling messages and delay time related to the idle handoff and the active handoff.  相似文献

User mobility management is one of the important components of mobile multimedia systems. In a cell-based network, a mobile should be able to seamlessly obtain transmission resources after handoff to a new base station. This is essential for both service continuity and quality of service assurance. In this paper, we present strategies for accommodating continuous service to mobile users through estimating resource requirements of potential handoff connections. A diverse mix of heterogeneous traffic with diverse resource requirements is considered. The investigate static and dynamic resource allocation schemes. The dynamic scheme probabilistically estimates the potential number of connections that will be handed off from neighboring cells, for each class of traffic. The performance of these strategies in terms of connection blocking probabilities for handoff and local new connection requests are evaluated. The performance is also compared to a scheme previously proposed by Yu and Leung (see IEEE J. Select. Areas Commun., vol.15, p.1208-25, 1997). The results indicate that using dynamic estimation and allocation, we can significantly reduce the dropping probability for handoff connections  相似文献

应用层移动性对在移动环境下的IP应用很重要,底层的移动性支持保证了切换中数据传输的平滑性,而应用层移动性要保证上层应用在移动中正确收发数据。文中提出了移动扩展SOCKET,即MESOCK(Mobile Extension SOCKET)来实现应用层的移动性。它允许应用数据传送中变换数据传输的源和目的IP地址,使得数据可以直接经路由到达目的地而不是采用隧道的方式。能够很好地配合底层的IP地址切换,即终端地址一旦变化,应用层即启用新的IP地址来收发数据,而不是通过数据隧道发送数据。并在地址切换过程中很好地保持连接的持续性,从而保证服务的连续性和数据传输的完整性。仿真结果证明MESOCK可以很好地实现这一目标。  相似文献

The traffic performance of integrated 3G wide-band code division multiple access (WCDMA) and GSM/GPRS network is evaluated. This type of network links two cellular radio systems which have different set of frequency bands and the same coverage size. The base station of 3G WCDMA is installed on an existing GSM/GPRS site. Dual-mode mobile terminals use handoff to establish calls on the better system. The soft handoff or inter-frequency hard handoff occurs when mobile terminals of 3G WCDMA or GSM/GPRS move between two adjacent cells, respectively. The inter-system hard handoffs are used between 3G WCDMA and GSM/GPRS systems. The data rate conversions between different systems, soft handoff region size, multiple data rate multimedia services, and the effect of the mobile terminal mobility on the user mean dwell time in each system are considered in the study. The simulation results demonstrate that a great traffic performance improvement on the complementary use of 3G WCDMA and GSM/GPRS cellular radio networks compared with the use of GSM/GPRS cellular radio networks. When high-data rate transmission is chosen for low-mobility subscribers, both the handoff failure probability, and carried traffic rates increase with the new call generation rate. However, both rates decrease conversely with the increasing new call generation rate as soon as the new call generation rate exceeds a critical value. This causes the integrated networks saturation. The higher mean speed for the mobile terminals produces lower new call blocking probabilities and total carried traffic. The new call blocking probabilities and total carried traffic increase with the size of the soft handoff region.  相似文献

垂直切换是多网融合的基础,是实现异构网络互通、支持不同接入方式无缝衔接的核心技术,目前正在受到业界的重点关注,并成为学术界研究的热点问题。随着无线移动通信技术向接入多元化、网络一体化和应用综合化的方向发展,各种蜂窝移动接入、宽带无线接入和固定接入将共同接入基于IP的统一核心网络,通过网络间的垂直切换,支持用户的移动性和移动过程中业务的连续性。首先给出了垂直切换的定义和基本概念,介绍了垂直切换的分类和基本流程,随后详细论述垂直切换的切换判决和切换执行2个环节。针对切换判决,总结了现有判决算法,重点评述各代表算法工作原理并剖析论其特点和存在的不足。针对切换执行,详述了现有垂直切换执行机制的工作原理和适用场景,并分析其优缺点。最后,对未来垂直切换技术的研究方向进行了展望。  相似文献

第三代移动通信系统要求支持宽带多媒体业务,如话音、视频、数据等多种业务,不同业务有不同的QoS要求。本文提出的多业务无线蜂窝移动通信系统中一种基于QoS的呼收允许控制策略,对不同业务的切换呼叫给予不同的优先权。本文分析了两种呼叫允许控制(CAC)算法,一种是各种业务的切控呼叫无缓冲器,不进入排队系统;另一种是各种业务的切换呼叫设置有缓冲器,进入排除系统,并且话音、视频业务的切切呼叫比数据业务的切换呼叫有更高的优先权,系统的空闲信道应首先分配给话音、视频业务的切换呼叫,再分配给数据业务的切换呼叫。在分析两种CAC算法的呼叫阻塞概率、切换失败概率以及系统吞吐量的基础上,给出了计算机仿真结果。  相似文献
