A novel photochemical spray reactor is first developed and is used to remove Hg0 and simultaneously remove Hg0/SO2/NO from flue gas by ultraviolet (UV)/H2O2 process. The effects of several parameters (UV wavelength, UV power, H2O2 concentration, Hg0 inlet concentration, solution temperature, liquid–gas ratio, solution pH, SO2 concentration, NO concentration, and O2 concentration) on removal of Hg0 by UV/H2O2 process were investigated. Removal mechanism of Hg0 is proposed and simultaneous removal of Hg0, NO, and SO2 is also studied. The results show that the parameters, UV wavelength, UV power, H2O2 concentration, liquid–gas ratio, solution pH, and O2 concentration, have significant impact on removal of Hg0. However, the parameters, Hg0 inlet concentration, solution temperature, SO2 concentration, and NO concentration, only have small effect on removal of Hg0. Hg2+ is the final product of Hg0 removal, and Hg0 is mainly removed by oxidations of H2O2, ·OH, · O, O3, and photoexcitation of UV. © 2014 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 60: 2275–2285, 2014  相似文献

Several novel oxidation removal processes of elemental mercury (Hg0) from flue gas using combined Fe2+/Mn2+ and heat activated peroxymonosulfate (PMS)/H2O2 solutions in a bubbling reactor were proposed. The operating parameters (e.g., PMS/H2O2 concentration, Fe2+/Mn2+ concentration, solution pH, activation temperature, and Hg0/NO/SO2/O2/CO2 concentration), mechanism and mass transfer-reaction kinetics of Hg0 removal were investigated. The results show that heat and Fe2+/Mn2+ have significant synergistic effect for activating PMS and PMS/H2O2 to produce free radicals to oxidize Hg0. Hg0 removal is strongly affected by PMS/H2O2 concentration, Fe2+/Mn2+ concentration, activation temperature, and solution pH. · and ·OH produced from combined heat and Fe2+/Mn2+ activated PMS/H2O2 play a leading role in Hg0 removal. Under optimized experimental conditions, Hg0 removal efficiencies reach 100, 94.9, 66.9, and 58.9% in heat/Fe2+/PMS/H2O2, heat/Mn2+/PMS/H2O2, heat/Fe2+/PMS, and heat/Mn2+/PMS systems, respectively. Hg0 removal processes in four systems belong to fast reaction and were controlled by mass transfer under optimized experimental conditions. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 65: 161–174, 2019  相似文献

Mercury emissions from coal-fired power plants account for 40% of the anthropogenic mercury emissions in the U.S. The speciation of mercury largely determines the amount of mercury capture in control equipments. Conversion of insoluble Hg0 into more soluble Hg2+ facilitates its removal in scrubbers. Past studies suggest that an added supply of OH radicals possibly enhance the mercury oxidation process. This study demonstrates that the application of H2O2, as source of OH radicals, accelerates the oxidation of Hg0 into Hg2+. A detailed kinetic reaction mechanism was compiled and the reaction pathways were established to analyze the effect of H2O2 addition. The optimum temperature range for the oxidation was 480–490 °C. The sensitivity analysis of the reaction mechanism indicates that the supply OH radicals increase the formation of atomic Cl, which accelerates the formation of HgCl2 enhancing the oxidation process. Also, the pathway through HOCl radical, generated by the interactions between chlorine and H2O2 was prominent in the oxidation of Hg0. The flue gas NO was found to be inhibiting the Hg0 oxidation, since it competed for the supplied H2O2. Studying the interactions with the other flue gas components and the surface chemistry with particles in the flue gas could be important and may improve the insight into the post combustion transformation of mercury in a comprehensive way.  相似文献

In this work, advanced oxidation removal of nitric oxide (NO) from flue gas by homogeneous Photo‐Fenton was investigated in a photochemical reactor and the effects of several influencing factors on NO removal were evaluated. The gas‐liquid reaction products were determined. The reaction pathways of NO removal are also preliminarily discussed. It was found that with the increase of Fe2+ concentration, NO removal efficiency first increased and then decreased. Increasing H2O2 concentration and UV radiation intensity greatly increased NO removal efficiency, but the growth rates gradually became smaller. NO removal efficiency greatly reduced with the increase of gas flow and NO concentration, and only slightly decreased with the increase of solution temperature, but significantly increased with the increase of initial solution pH value. The main anion product in the liquid phase was NO3. With respect to removal of NO using homogeneous Photo‐Fenton, ·OH oxidation was the main reaction pathway, and H2O2 oxidation was the secondary reaction pathway.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: Industrial surfactants are biologically complex organics that are difficult to degrade and may cause ecotoxicological risks in the environment. Until now, many scientific reports have been devoted to the effective treatment of surfactants employing advanced oxidation processes, but there is no available experimental study dealing with the optimization and statistical design of surfactant oxidation with the well‐established H2O2/UV‐C process. RESULTS: Considering the major factors influencing H2O2/UV‐C performance as well as their interactions, the reaction conditions required for the complete oxidation of a commercial non‐ionic textile surfactant, an alkyl ethoxylate, were modeled and optimized using central composite design‐response surface methodology (CCD‐RSM). Experimental results revealed that for an aqueous non‐ionic surfactant solution at an initial chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 450 mg L?1, the most appropriate H2O2/UV‐C treatment conditions to achieve full mineralization at an initial pH of 10.5 were 47 mmol L?1 H2O2 and a reaction time of 86 min (corresponding to a UV dose of 30 kWh m?3). CONCLUSION: CCD allowed the development of empirical polynomial equations (quadratic models) that successfully predicted COD and TOC removal efficiencies under all experimental conditions employed in the present work. The process variable treatment time, followed by the initial COD content of the aqueous surfactant solution were found to be the main parameters affecting treatment performance, whereas the initial H2O2 concentration had the least influence on advanced oxidation efficiencies. The H2O2 concentration and surfactant COD were found to be more important for TOC abatement compared with COD abatement. Copyright © 2009 Society of Chemical Industry

A novel silica–titania (SiO2–TiO2) nanocomposite has been developed to effectively capture elemental mercury (Hg0) under UV irradiation. Previous studies under room conditions showed over 99% Hg0 removal efficiency using this nanocomposite. In this work, the performance of the nanocomposite on Hg0 removal was tested in simulated coal-fired power plant flue gas, where water vapor concentration is much higher and various acid gases, such as HCl, SO2, and NOx, are present. Experiments were carried out in a fix-bed reactor operated at 135 °C with a baseline gas mixture containing 4% O2, 12% CO2, and 8% H2O balanced with N2. Results of Hg speciation data at the reactor outlet demonstrated that Hg0 was photocatalytically oxidized and captured on the nanocomposite. The removal efficiency of Hg0 was found to be significantly affected by the flue gas components. Increased water vapor concentration inhibited Hg0 capture, due to the competitive adsorption of water vapor. Both HCl and SO2 promoted the oxidation of Hg0 to Hg(II), resulting in higher removal efficiencies. NO was found to have a dramatic inhibitory effect on Hg0 removal, very likely due to the scavenging of hydroxyl radicals by NO. The effect of NO2 was found to be insignificant. Hg removal in flue gases simulating low rank coal combustion products was found to be less than that from high rank coals, possibly due to the higher H2O concentration and lower HCl and SO2 concentrations of the low rank coals. It is essential, however, to minimize the adverse effect of NO to improve the overall performance of the SiO2–TiO2 nanocomposite.  相似文献

Removal of Hg0 vapor from the simulated coal combustion flue gases with a commercial activated carbon was investigated using H2S. This method is based on the reaction of H2S and Hg over the adsorbents. The Hg0 removal experiments were carried out in a conventional flow type packed bed reactor system in the temperature range of 80–150 °C using simulated flue gases having the composition of Hg0 (4.9 ppb), H2S (0–20 ppm), SO2 (0–487 ppm), CO2 (10%), H2O (0–15%), O2 (0–5%), N2 (balance gas). The following results were obtained: in the presence of both H2S and SO2, Hg removal was favored at lower temperatures (80–100 °C). At 150 °C, presence of O2 was indispensable for Hg0 removal from H2S–SO2 flue gas system. It is suggested that the partial oxidation of H2S with O2 to elemental sulfur (H2S+1/2O2=Sad+H2O) and the Clause reaction (SO2+2H2S=3Sad+2H2O) may contribute to the Hg0 removal over activated carbon by the following reaction: Sad+Hg=HgS. The formation of elemental sulfur on the activated carbon was confirmed by a visual observation.  相似文献

Bench-scale investigations indicate that NO, NO2, hematite (α-Fe2O3), maghemite (γ-Fe2O3), and HCl promote the conversion of gaseous elemental mercury (Hg0) to gaseous oxidized mercury (Hg2+) and/or particle-associated mercury (Hg[p]) in simulated coal combustion flue gases. In this investigation, the effects of NOx, α-Fe2O3, γ-Fe2O3, and HCl on Hg transformations were evaluated by injecting them into actual coal combustion flue gases produced from burning subbituminous Absaloka and lignitic Falkirk coals in a 7-kW down-fired cylindrical furnace. A bituminous Blacksville coal known to produce an Hg2+-rich combustion flue gas was also burned in the system. The American Society for Testing and Materials Method D6784-02 (Ontario Hydro method) or an online Hg analyzer equipped to measure Hg0 and total gaseous mercury (Hg[tot]) was used to monitor Hg speciation at the baghouse inlet (160–195 °C) and outlet (110–140 °C) locations of the system. As expected, the baseline Blacksville flue gas was composed predominantly of Hg2+ (Hg2+/Hg[tot]=0.77), whereas Absaloka and Falkirk flue gases contained primarily Hg0 (Hg0/Hg[tot]=0.84 and 0.78, respectively). Injections of NO2 (80–190 ppmv) at 440–880 °C and α-Fe2O3 (15 and 6 wt.%) at 450 °C into Absaloka and Falkirk coal combustion flue gases did not significantly affect Hg speciation. The lack of Hg0 to Hg2+ conversion suggests that components of Absaloka and Falkirk combustion flue gases and/or fly ashes inhibit heterogeneous Hg0–NOx–α-Fe2O3 reactions or that the flue gas quench rate in the 7-kW system is much different in relation to bench-scale flue gas simulators. An abundance of Hg2+, HCl, and γ-Fe2O3 in Blacksville flue gas and the inertness of injected α-Fe2O3 with respect to heterogeneous Hg0 oxidation in Absaloka and Falkirk flue gases suggested that γ-Fe2O3 catalyzes Hg2+ formation and that HCl is an important Hg0 reactant. The filtration of Absaloka and Falkirk combustion flue gases at 150 °C through fabric filters with ≈60 g/m2 γ-Fe2O3 indicated that about 30% of the Hg0 in Absaloka and Falkirk flue gases was converted to Hg2+ and/or Hg(p). HCl injection (100 ppmv) into the Absaloka combustion flue gas converted most of the Hg0 to Hg2+, whereas HCl injection into the Falkirk flue gas converted most of the Hg0 and Hg2+ to Hg(p). Additions of γ-Fe2O3 and HCl did not have a synergistic effect on Hg0 oxidation. The filtration of Absaloka and Falkirk flue gases through much greater fabric filter loadings of 475 g/m2 γ-Fe2O3 essentially doubled the baghouse Hg[tot] removal efficiency to about 50%. Results from this investigation demonstrate the importance of evaluating potential Hg0 reactants and oxidation catalysts in actual coal combustion flue gases.  相似文献

Basic rules of NO oxidation by a Fe2+/H2O2/AA directional decomposition system were researched based on the technical background of flue gas NOx removal. Effects of gas‐liquid interfacial area, main gas, and solution parameters on NO oxidation efficiency (η) were analyzed. The results showed that adequate contact area was the precondition for high η by a Fe2+/H2O2/AA system. η decreased with the increase in NO concentration, which illustrated that this method would be efficient in oxidizing NO at a low concentration. η tended to decrease linearly with the growth in gas flow, however, the NO oxidation rate (v) rose with the increase in NO concentration and gas flow. η increased with the initial concentrations of H2O2 and Fe2+, but the amplitude decreased. Controlling the initial concentrations of H2O2 and Fe2+ to achieve reasonable synergies between generation rate and consumption rate of ·OH could weaken the invalid consumption of reactants. η increased with the increase in temperature in the range 30–60 °C, but it nearly did not change with temperature after 60 °C. This oxidation technology and the traditional wet flue gas desulphurization technology exhibited temperature synergy. Under typical pH of wet desulphurization, η and H2O2 consumption rate did not change obviously.  相似文献

Photo‐oxidation of cyanide was studied in aqueous solution using a low‐pressure ultra‐violet (UV) lamp along with H2O2 as an oxidant. It was observed that by UV alone, cyanide degradation was slow but when H2O2 was used with UV, the degradation rate became faster and complete degradation occurred in 40 min. The rate of degradation increased as the lamp wattage was increased. It was also observed that cyanide oxidation is dependent on initial H2O2 concentration and the optimum dose of H2O2 was found to be 35.3 mmol dm?3. Photo‐oxidation reactions were carried out at alkaline pH values (10–11) as at acidic pH values, cyanide ions form highly toxic HCN gas which is volatile and difficult to oxidise. By the UV/H2O2 process, using a 25 W low‐pressure UV lamp and at alkaline pH of 10.5 with an H2O2 dose of 35.3 mmol dm?3, cyanide (100 mg dm?3) was completely degraded in 40 min when air was bubbled through the reactor, but when pure oxygen was bubbled the time reduced to 25 min. The cyanide degradation reaction pathway has been established. It was found that cyanide was first oxidised to cyanate and later the cyanate was oxidised to carbon dioxide and nitrogen. The kinetics of cyanide oxidation were found to be pseudo‐first order and the rate constant estimated to be 9.9 × 10?2min?1 at 40 °C. The power required for complete degradation of 1 kg of cyanide was found to be 167 kWh (kilowatt hour). Copyright © 2004 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

CuCl2-SCR catalysts prepared by an improved impregnation method were studied to evaluate the catalytic performance for gaseous elemental mercury (Hg0) oxidation in simulated flue gas. Hg0 oxidation activity of commercial SCR catalyst was significantly improved by the introduction of CuCl2. Nitrogen adsorption, XRD, XRF and XPS were used to characterize the catalysts. The results indicated that CuCl2 was well loaded and highly dispersed on the catalyst surface, and that CuCl2 played an important role for Hg0 catalytic oxidation. The effects of individual flue gas components on Hg0 oxidation were also investigated over CuCl2-SCR catalyst at 350 oC. The co-presence of NO and NH3 remarkably inhibited Hg0 oxidation, while this inhibiting effect was gradually scavenged with the decrease of GHSV. Further study revealed the possibility of simultaneous removal of Hg0 and NO over CuCl2-SCR catalyst in simulated flue gas. The mechanism of Hg0 oxidation was also investigated.  相似文献

Fe(III)/H2O2 system is an effective method for separating the organic compounds from aqueous solution, whereas it is often investigated under lower pH conditions. In order to improve performance of the system, a Fe(III)/H2O2-like system that was composed of iron-based coagulant and H2O2 was developed, which has the combined effect of flocculation and oxidation. The system when used for decolorization of an organic azo dye solution, Procion Red MX-5B, under wider pH range, indicated higher decolorization efficiency. Parameters affecting the decolorization such as coagulant dosage, H2O2 concentration, initial solution pH, temperature, and initial dye concentration were examined in this study. The results indicated that with appropriate coagulant dosage, H2O2 concentration, and pH, it was more effective for the decolorization, especially in a weak alkaline environment (pH = 7-8); the pseudo-first-order kinetics could express the azo dye concentration as a function of the reaction time. This study further illustrated that the azo dye solution was degraded to a degree with 53.22% TOC removal at an initial total TOC concentration of 14.92 mg/L. Overall, the established system in this study was favorable to the decolorization of soluble azo dye.  相似文献

The important step for increasing gaseous elemental mercury (Hg0) removal in wet scrubber systems is altering the chemical form of the Hg0 to a water‐soluble oxidized species. This work focuses on the removal of elemental mercury from simulated flue gas by aqueous sodium chlorite in a bubble reactor. The effects of initial oxidizing solution concentration, reaction temperature, pH and mercury concentration in the inlet of the reactor on mercury oxidative absorption in sodium chlorite were investigated. The results indicate that higher concentrations of sodium chlorite favor Hg0 removal, with a greater efficiency observed in acidic than in alkaline solution. High temperature inhibits Hg0 absorption in aqueous sorbent when the reaction temperature is lower than ca. 40 °C, and the removal efficiency increases when the temperature is higher than that value. In conclusion, the major influencing factors on the levels of Hg0 removal are pH and chlorite concentration in solution.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: The objective of the present study was to analyse the kinetics of photodegradation of three antibiotics from the tetracycline group (tetracycline (TC), chlortetracycline (CTC) and oxytetracycline (OTC)), and the influence of the operational variables: (1) initial concentration; (2) initial solution pH; (3) addition of hydrogen peroxide; (4) effect of the aqueous matrix (ultrapure water (UW), surface water (SW), groundwater (GW) and waste‐water (WW) on these processes. RESULTS: The results obtained show that the photodegradation of the three tetracyclines fits first‐order kinetics. The degradation rate depends on initial concentration and pH. Low concentrations of H2O2 markedly increased the efficacy of TC photolysis, with a linear relationship between degradation rate and H2O2 concentration for concentrations of 2 × 10?2 to 2 × 10?1 mmol L?1. The photodegradation rate is higher in real waters than in ultrapure water. The toxicity of oxidation by‐products formed during tetracyclines photooxidation process was determined by a bioluminescent test, showing that toxicity increases during the process. CONCLUSIONS: Oxidation of tetracyclines by UV radiation alone is slow due to the low quantum yield determined. The UV/H2O2 process is an interesting alternative to oxidise tetracyclines in aqueous solution, because this process decreases total organic carbon concentration and tetracyclines oxidation by‐products toxicity. This laboratory study was designed to investigate the degradation of 4-chloronitrobenzene ([CNB] = 2.4 × 10?6 mol L?1; pH = 7.5) by H2O2/UV and by O3/UV oxidation processes which involve the generation of very reactive and oxidizing hydroxyl free radicals. The effects of the oxidant doses (H2O2 or aqueous O3), liquid flow rate (or the contact time), and bicarbonate ions acting as OH· radical scavengers on the CNB removal rates were studied. For a constant oxidant dose, the results show that the O3/UV system appears to be more efficient than the H2O2/UV system to remove CNB because of the greatest rate of OH· generation by ozone photodecomposition compared to H2O2 photolysis. However, for a given amount of oxidant decomposed, the H2O2/UV oxidant system was found to be more efficient than O3/UV. Moreover, high levels of bicarbonate ions in solution (4 × 10?3 mol L?1) significantly decrease the efficiency of CNB removal by H2O2/UV and by O3/UV oxidation processes.  相似文献

BACKGROUND: A highly stable Fe/γ‐Al2O3 catalyst for catalytic wet peroxide oxidation has been studied using phenol as target pollutant. The catalyst was prepared by incipient wetness impregnation of γ‐Al2O3 with an aqueous solution of Fe(NO3)3· 9H2O. The influence of pH, temperature, catalyst and H2O2 doses, as well as the initial phenol concentration has been analyzed. RESULTS: The reaction temperature and initial pH significantly affect both phenol conversion and total organic carbon removal. Working at 50 °C, an initial pH of 3, 100 mg L?1 of phenol, a dose of H2O2 corresponding to the stoichiometric amount and 1250 mg L?1 of catalyst, complete phenol conversion and a total organic carbon removal efficiency close to 80% were achieved. When the initial phenol concentration was increased to 1500 mg L?1, a decreased efficiency in total organic carbon removal was observed with increased leaching of iron that can be related to a higher concentration of oxalic acid, as by‐product from catalytic wet peroxide oxidation of phenol. CONCLUSION: A laboratory synthesized γ‐Al2O3 supported Fe has shown potential application in catalytic wet peroxide oxidation of phenolic wastewaters. The catalyst showed remarkable stability in long‐term continuous experiments with limited Fe leaching, < 3% of the initial loading. Copyright © 2010 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Clopyralid is a herbicide that has recently been reported to occur in drinking water at concentrations above the Permitted Concentration Value (PCV) of 0.1 μg/L for an individual pesticide (EU directive 98/83/EC). An extensive laboratory study on clopyralid removal with UV/TiO2, was carried out and was compared to UV/H2O2 and O3 removal efficiencies. The effectiveness of three TiO2 photocatalysts (Degussa P25, VP Aeroperl, Hombifine N) was studied and Degussa P25 was selected since it outperformed the other two. Complete removal of clopyralid was achieved with UV/TiO2 in about 90 min at an optimum catalyst concentration of 1 g/L. Pseudo-zero-order kinetics were suitable to describe the first stage of the photocatalytic reaction in the concentration range 0.078–0.521 mM. pH was found to significantly affect the removal rates of clopyralid due to changes in TiO2 surface charges and clopyralid ionisation degree. The rate constant was maximum at pH 5 and its value was 2.1 × 10−6 ± 4.3 × 10−7 M min−1. Pure oxygen bubbled in solution was found to slightly affect unfavourably the photocatalytic removal of clopyralid as compared to air. With UV/H2O2 and O3 systems, the initial removal rates were high but these systems were not effective in achieving high removal percentages overall.  相似文献

Removal of Hg0 using two homogeneous Photo‐Fenton‐Like reactions was first investigated in a photochemical reactor. Effects of process parameters on Hg0 removal were studied. Free radical and reaction products were analyzed. Removal pathways of Hg0 were discussed. Simultaneous removal of Hg0, NO, and SO2 is also studied briefly. The results show that UV power, wavelength, H2O2 concentration, and solution pH have great effects on Hg0 removal. Hg0, and SO2 concentrations, solution temperature, Fe3+, Cu2+, , and concentrations also have significant effects on Hg0 removal. However, concentrations of CO2, NO, O2, Cl?, , , SiO2, Al2O3, and Fe2O3 only have slight effects on Hg0 removal. Hg0/NO/SO2 can be simultaneously removed by Photo‐Fenton‐Like reactions. ·OH was captured, and / /Hg2+ were also detected. Removals of Hg0 by photochemical oxidation and ·OH oxidation play a major role, and removal of Hg0 by H2O2 oxidation only plays a secondary role in removal of Hg0. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 1322–1333, 2015  相似文献
