The dissolution of carbon steel in hydrochloric acid has been investigated from the point of view of large scale manufacture of ferrous chloride. It has been found that the rate of dissolution at 95°c. can be represented by the equation R = k ([HCl] + 0.58 [FeCl2)0.45 where k varies with the physical and chemical nature of the steel. The activation energy varies with the particular experimental conditions over the range 12.0 to 18.1 K.cal/ mole. The rate of reaction is not influenced by agitation. The mechanism of the dissolution process is discussed together with practical aspects and pilot plant results. 相似文献

The performance of methanol extract of Luffa aegyptiaca leaves (MLA) as corrosion inhibitor for mild steel (MS) in 1 M HCl was investigated by potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy. Polarization measurements showed that the MLA acts as a mixed inhibitor. It was found that the percentage inhibition efficiency increased with MLA concentration and decreased with temperature. Thermodynamic parameters indicate the spontaneous adsorption of MLA on MS surface. In addition, it has been established that the adsorption process obeyed Langmuir isotherm. Additions of halide ions considerably increase the inhibition efficiency. Synergistic parameters confirm the synergistic effect of halide ions. The adsorption of the chemical constituents of MLA on MS surface was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy. 相似文献

The inhibiting effect of 12-aminododecanoic acid (AA) on corrosion of carbon steel (CS) was investigated in hydrochloric acid of different pH, temperatures and over a prolonged period of time, and also in some other selected corrosive solutions. It was found that AA inhibits both partial corrosion reactions, with a slightly stronger inhibition of the anodic corrosion reaction. The corrosion protection mechanism is by formation of a surface-adsorbed AA monolayer that offers a hydrophobic barrier to transport of solvated corrosive ions to the surface. A maximum inhibition efficiency of 98.8 ± 0.5% was achieved in 0.5 M HCl. The adsorption of AA onto the CS surface was described by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The corresponding standard Gibbs energy of adsorption was calculated to be −26 kJ mol−1. Polarization modulation infrared reflection absorption spectroscopy measurements revealed that the adsorbed AA monolayer is amorphous, which is due to the high heterogeneity of the CS surface. 相似文献
