This study was used to help define the contribution to taste and odor problems caused by the application of a pipe-joint lubricant to connect ductile iron pipe in drinking water distribution systems. Tyton Joint Lubricant (TJL) was studied. The lubricant produced odors that are continually oxidized by chlorine or oxygen. The mechanism of oxidative rancidity, one of the major causes of food spoilage is the apparent mechanism of oxidation. The odors produced by the lubricant were characterized by a Flavor Profile Analysis (FPA) panel as well as GC/MS and Sensory GC analysis. The most common odors perceived in the TJL water samples for the first six days were waxy/oily and soapy odors with a rancid oil, odor note. The waxy/oily and soapy odors decreased with time in the chlorine medium as the rancid oily odor note increased. Numerous aldehydes, ketones, alcohols and borneol compounds, produced from the lubricants, were tentatively identified and linked to the odors perceived by the FPA panel.  相似文献

介绍了臭味层次分析法(FPA)培训内容及其在上海市饮用水臭味识别中的应用。结果表明,经过培训的FPA臭味识别小组能够对水样中不同种类的异臭味进行定性和定量的评价分析;臭味检测人员对上海市水体中含有的典型致臭土霉味物质甲基异莰醇-2和腥臭味物质二甲基三硫的嗅阈值可分别达到1.69ng/L和24.4ng/L,并对这两种物质的强度等级评价有较好的重现性。采用FPA评价上海市地区原水及不同供水区域自来水的臭味特征及加标后不同浓度条件下的臭味强度特征,结果表明,FPA优于现行使用的臭味评价方法,能够及时、快速地反映水质问题,是可靠的感官分析方法。  相似文献

济南鹊华水厂以引黄调蓄水库为水源,原水存在低浊高藻高臭味等问题,水厂原有工艺难以有效处理。为适应国家《生活饮用水卫生标准》(GB 5749—2006)要求,水厂将"混凝—沉淀—过滤—液氯消毒"工艺改造为"中置式高密度沉淀—臭氧催化氧化—上向流生物活性炭吸附—V型砂滤—液氯消毒"工艺,改造后的净水工艺对有机物、臭味等特征污染物去除效果明显,出厂水水质稳定达标。  相似文献

在ASBR反应器中,以苯酚为标的物进行难降解有机物的降解,并研究反应器的降解动力学。经过前期的污泥驯化和正交试验,本试验在ASBR最有效降解污染物的工况下运行。试验结果表明:苯酚初始浓度小于146.8mg/L的情况下,反应速率随苯酚浓度的增大而增大,苯酚的降解过程符合零级动力学反应特征;苯酚初始浓度在200.5~377.9 mg/L之间时,反应速率随苯酚浓度的增大而减小,苯酚的降解过程符合一级动力学反应特征。低浓度和高浓度苯酚在ASBR中降解分别符合零级和一级动力学反应特征,且中温降解速率明显高于常温。本文试验数据与动力学方程拟合较好,能够为实际工艺中的苯酚污水处理提供参考。  相似文献

Salty taste with or without chlorine or chloramine flavour is one of the major consumer complaints to water utilities. The flavour profile analysis (FPA) taste panel method determined the average taste threshold concentration for salt (NaCl) in Milli-Q water to be 640 +/- 3 mg/L at pH 8. Chlorine and chloramine disinfectants have no antagonistic or synergistic effects on the taste of NaCl, salt, in Milli-Q water. The flavour threshold concentrations for chlorine or chloramine in Milli-Q water alone or in the presence of NaCl could not be estimated by the Weber-Fechner curves due to the chlorine or chloramine flavour outliers in the 0.2-0.8 mg/L concentration range. Apparently, NaCl is not equilibrated with the concentration of ions in the saliva in the mouth and the concentration of free chlorine or chloramines cannot be tasted correctly. Therefore, dechlorinated tap water may be the best background water to use for a particular drinking water evaluation of chlorine and chloramine thresholds. Laboratory FPA studies of free chlorine found that a 67% dilution of Central Arizona Project (CAP) (Tucson, AZ) water with Milli-O water was required to reduce the free chlorine flavour to a threshold value instead of a theoretical value of 80% (Krasner and Barrett, 1980). No synergistic effect was found for chlorine flavour on the dilution of CAP water with Milli-Q water. When Central Avra Valley (AVRA) groundwater was used for the dilution of CAP water, a synergistic effect of the TDS present was observed for the chlorine flavour. Apparently, the actual mineral content of drinking water, and not just NaCl in Milli-Q water, is needed for comparative flavour tests for chlorine and chloramines.  相似文献

金门地区水库富营养化严重影响饮用水水质。夏天藻类所产生的臭味以土霉味为主。土霉味主要来自于藻类代谢物二甲基异冰片和土臭素。利用活性炭处理工艺分别使二甲基异冰片、土臭素及嗅值的去除率达92%、83%及72%;而利用臭氧一生物活性炭工艺则可使二甲基异冰片、土臭素及嗅值的去除率分别达96.3%、100%及96.7%。组合工艺可有效去除臭味物质,但清水池加氯消毒所产生的氯臭味,使嗅值无法达到台湾地区的饮用水水质标准,因此要特别注意控制加氯量。  相似文献

Considering this rapid growth in the purchasing of bottled water and home filtration devices, utilities are increasingly concerned about consumer dissatisfaction with tap water quality. This project aimed to characterize public perceptions of chlorinous flavors in drinking water, and how these impact customers' choices with respect to consumption of tap water alternatives. On-site taste tests at seven water utilities with 30 to 40 panelists at each site, were conducted using a forced-choice triangle test method (ASTM method E679-91) to measure public sensitivity to chlorine and chloramine in drinking water. The chlor(am)ine concentration increased from set to set. The best-estimate sensitivity limit for each panelist was the geometric mean of that concentration at which the last miss occurred and the next (adjacent) higher concentration. The measured sensitivity limit of average American populations to free chlorine (159 persons tested) and chloramine (93 persons tested) in tap water were 0.8 and 3.7 mg/L Cl2, respectively. These thresholds are much higher than those previously reported in the literature using trained FPA panels. No significant differences were observed between tap water users and users of tap water alternatives or between the various markets tested with respect to average sensitivity, though individual sensitivity varied widely.  相似文献

An intensive study was developed to assess the influence of different flow conditions in the chlorine decay of drinking water systems based on a series of experiments tested on a loop pipe linked to the Lisbon water distribution system. Water samples and chlorine measurements were taken under three distinct flow conditions: (1) steady-state regimes; (2) combined flow situations—an initial steady-state period, followed by successive transient events and a new steady-state period; (3) isolated flow tests—steady-state flow regimes and transient flow regimes performed independently. All the tests were replicated for a typical range of Reynolds numbers in real water distribution systems. More specifically, pressure and velocity variations associated with hydraulic transients or water hammer conditions may degrade water quality. The series of results obtained in steady-state flow conditions confirmed the rate of chlorine decay increases with the Reynolds number and provided evidence that hydraulic transients have a slowing-down effect on chlorine decay rates.  相似文献

安全输配是饮用水水质保障的关键。在对中国南方 S 市配水管网水质大量调查的基础上,分析了余氯、浊度、铁、三卤甲烷、卤乙酸、AOC 等主要水质指标在管网中的变化规律,发现余氯沿管线逐渐降低,浊度和铁基本沿管线逐渐增加,其主要影响因素有管道属性、温度及水力条件等;三卤甲烷在管网中表现出增加的趋势,而卤乙酸则在管网中表现出降低的趋势,其主要影响因素有余氯浓度、水质条件、温度条件及水力条件等;供水系统中 AOC 以 AOC-P17为主要组分,沿供水系统有逐渐增加的趋势,其浓度、组成以及在管网中的变化规律呈现明显的季节性。  相似文献

A new sensory method was developed and tested at a full-scale water treatment plant. The method evaluates changes in aesthetic water quality during transit in the distribution system. A paired comparison format is used to determine if the odor of a distribution-system sample is different from that of a control sample. The control sample represents the "ideal" water, such as treated water leaving the plant. The method can rapidly determine whether or not a problem exists in the distribution system, and, if one does exist, it allows for characterization of the problem. Over a three-month period a 4-member odor panel evaluated 118 distribution samples by this new procedure. Among the 118 samples tested, 39 samples yielded a consensus among the analysts as to the odor characteristics of the sample; 35 were rated "not different from the control" (about 90%), and only 4 were rated "different from control" (about 10%). The 79 samples for which no consensus was generated had only slight rating differences between analysts and for odor intensity. No taste-and-odor problems were reported by consumers during the time period for this study and the method indicated that no major odor problems existed in the distribution system.  相似文献

Water treatment plants in the US may operate under the assumption that chlorine masks earthy and musty odors from geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol (MIB) in drinking water. To test this hypothesis, we evaluated the effects of chlorine and chloramines on geosmin and MIB by two sensory analysis approaches--a statistical Pairwise Comparison Test, and Flavor Profile Analysis (FPA). All Pairwise Ranking test statistics were significant (p<0.05); we conclude that panelists can differentiate minor differences in geosmin and MIB concentrations in a Pairwise Comparison Test even in the presence of chlorine. FPA appeared to be more challenging in discerning subtle differences in concentrations of geosmin or MIB than did the Pairwise Comparison Test, and the presence of chlorine (0.5-20 mg/L) and chloramines (3-24 mg/L) confused the panelists (i.e showed a larger error in the intensity of response reported by the panel), but did not necessarily mask geosmin or MIB.  相似文献

研究了固相微萃取-气相色谱/二级质谱联用法测定水中2-甲基异坎醇(2-MIB)和土臭素(GSM)的方法.确定了最佳固相微萃取条件,NaCl加入量3 g,萃取温度60 ℃,搅拌时间30 min,搅拌速度800 r/min.在优化的仪器条件对臭味物质的测定结果显示,此方法灵敏度高,具有良好的精密度和准确度.2-MIB和GSM的相关系数均大于0.999;检出限及RSD分别为0.2 ng/L、0.4 ng/L和5.86%、6.50%;加标回收率分别为100.6%和92.3%.该方法操作简单省时,可满足水中痕量异臭物质的测定.  相似文献

Earthy-musty off-flavour compounds in water samples are usually associated with the presence of geosmin and 2-methylisoborneol. However, the presence of 2,3,6- and 2,4,6-trichloroanisoles or other halogenated anisoles can impart objectionable tastes and odours to the water even at very low trace levels. This paper shows the synthesis of non-commercial 2,3,6- and 2,4,6- mixed chloro/bromoanisoles which can be present in bromide rich waters and could also be suspected of imparting earthy-musty off-flavours to the water. All the synthesized compounds were subjected to the flavour profile analysis (FPA) method and their odour threshold concentrations (OTC) in water were carried out giving values in the low ng/L range.  相似文献

研究了给水管网中镀锌钢管、铝塑管等常用管材中水质变化的规律,得出了三种管材中游离氯和化合氯的衰减规律,分析了金属离子溶出的影响因素.发现三种管材中旧镀锌钢管的余氯衰减最快,新镀锌钢管比铝塑复合管余氯衰减要快,旧镀锌钢管中余氯衰减呈现一级动力学特征,新镀锌钢管和塑料管余氯衰减呈现零级动力学特征.随着管网水停留时间的增加,锌、铁等金属离子浓度增加,溶出铁的含量与浊度、色度呈现很好的线性相关关系.  相似文献

The formation of bromophenols during chlorination of phenol- and bromide-containing waters can be critical for taste and odour problems in drinking waters. The work performed has confirmed that flavour threshold concentrations of some bromophenols are in the ng/L range. In addition, under typical drinking water conditions, kinetic experiments and model simulations performed have shown that (1) bromination is the predominant reaction pathway, (2) bromophenol reaction kinetics are rapid leading to taste-and-odour episodes that last for short periods of 10-20 min, (3) increasing phenol concentration and pH tends to increase taste and odour intensity, (4) increasing chlorine or bromide concentrations tends to shorten the duration of the taste-and-odour episode.  相似文献

The concentration of Residual Chlorine (RC) frequently violates the standard in situations of urban water distribution system with large water supply area and long time of distribution. If chlorine dosage increases within water treatment plant, although RC in distribution system could meet water quality standard, Disinfection By-Products (DBPs) such as hydrocarbon halide rises. In the paper, a mathematical model of chlorine allocation optimization was presented based on reaction kinetics mechanism and optimization theory to solve the problem. The model includes the objective function of minimizing annual operation cost and constraints of RC standard and rational chlorination station distribution, and solving by 0-1 Integer Programming (IP). The model had been applied to a real water distribution system. The simulation results of the model showed that adding chlorine in‘ water distribution system remarkably improved water quality and reduced the operation cost by 49.3% per year less than chlorine dosed only in water treatment plant to meet RC standard. The results prove adding chlorine in water distribution system based on the model can bring both technological and economic advancement.  相似文献

Analysis of climate change impacts upon water resources has focused prim arily on water quantity issues. The impacts upon water qu ality and water quality management have had little attention. This paper presents a framework for assessing climate change impacts upon stream water quality and the management costs associated with adaptation to the new hydroclim atic conditions resulting in changes in streamflow and stream temperature. W ater quality indicators as well as chemical and biological processes important to water quality are a fu nction of stream temperature. This paper reports not on ly on how water quality indices will be im pacted by alternative climate change scenarios, but on the econom ic cost of maintaining water quality stan dards. The costs of maintaining water quality standards result from increased treatm ent of waste loads due to decreased waste assimilation capacity of warmer streams. A case study based on regionally developed climate change scenarios shows that water quality levels are greatly impacted in the low flow periods (by as m uch as 14 times), while average annual conditions are n ot impacted significantly.  相似文献

Changes in water quality that occur as water flows along hyporheic flow paths may have important effects on surface water quality and aquatic habitat, yet very few studies have examined these hyporheic processes along large gravel bed rivers. To determine water quality changes associated with hyporheic flow along the Willamette River, Oregon, we studied hyporheic flow at six‐bar deposit sites positioned between the main river channel and connected lentic alcoves. We installed piezometers and wells at each site and measured water levels and water quality in river, hyporheic and alcove water. Piezometric surfaces along with substrate characteristics were used to determine hyporheic flow path direction and hyporheic flow rate. At all sites, hyporheic flow moved from the river through bar deposits into alcove surface water. Stable isotope analysis showed little influence of upwelling groundwater. At a majority of sites, hyporheic dissolved oxygen and ammonium decreased relative to river water, and hyporheic specific conductance, nitrate and soluble reactive phosphorous increased relative to river water. At three sites, hyporheic temperature decreased 3–7°C relative to river water; there was less temperature change at the other three sites. At the two sites with the highest hyporheic flow rates, hyporheic cooling was propagated into the alcove surface water. Hyporheic changes had the greatest effect on alcove water quality at sites with highly permeable substrates and high‐hyporheic flow rates. The best approach to enhancing hyporheic flows and associated water quality functions is through restoring fluviogeomorphic channel processes that create and maintain high‐permeability gravel deposits conducive to hyporheic flow.
