In this work, hydrogen (H2) permeation fluxes through 230 nm‐thick graphene oxide (GO) membrane deposited on porous YSZ hollow fiber were measured and correlated to an explicit H2 permeation model. H2 fluxes through such GO‐YSZ hollow fiber membrane increased from 4.83 × 10?8 mol cm?2 s?1 to 2.11 × 10?7 mol cm?2 s?1 with temperature rise from 20 to 100 °C. The activation energy of H2 permeation was determined by the linear regression of the experimental data and was applied in the theoretical calculations. The model predictions fit well the temperature dependent and the argon sweep gas flow rate dependent H2 fluxes data. Using the derived permeation model, the effects of vacuum pressure at lumen side and H2 partial pressure at shell side, membrane area, and GO membrane film thickness on the membrane performance were simulated and discussed to provide insights for practical applications. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 64: 2711–2720, 2018  相似文献

The multiple types of efficient oxygen transport paths were demonstrated in high‐mechanical‐strength hepta‐bore Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3‐δ hollow fiber membranes. These types of paths play a prominent role in enhancing oxygen permeation fluxes (17.6 mL min?1 cm?2 at 1223 K) which greatly transcend the performance of state‐of‐the‐art Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3‐δ hollow fiber membranes, showing a good commercialization prospect. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 4273–4277, 2017  相似文献

The U‐shaped alkaline‐earth metal‐free CO2‐stable oxide hollow‐fiber membranes based on (Pr0.9La0.1)2(Ni0.74Cu0.21Ga0.05)O4+δ (PLNCG) are prepared by a phase‐inversion spinning process and applied successfully in the partial oxidation of methane (POM) to syngas. The effects of temperature, CH4 concentration and flow rate of the feed air on CH4 conversion, CO selectivity, H2/CO ratio, and oxygen permeation flux through the PLNCG hollow‐fiber membrane are investigated in detail. The oxygen permeation flux arrives at approximately 10.5 mL/min cm2 and the CO selectivity is higher than 99.5% with a CH4 conversion of 97.0% and a H2/CO ratio of 1.8 during 140 h steady operation. The spent hollow‐fiber membrane still maintains a dense microstructure and the Ruddlesden‐Popper K2NiF4‐type structure, which indicates that the U‐shaped alkaline‐earth metal‐free CO2‐tolerant PLNCG hollow‐fiber membrane reactor can be steadily operated for POM to syngas with good performance. © 2014 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 60: 3587–3595, 2014  相似文献

The oxygen permeation of dense U‐shaped perovskite hollow‐fiber membranes based on Ba0.5Sr0.5Co0.8Fe0.2O3?δ prepared by a phase inversion spinning process is reported. The perovskite hollow fibers with totally dense wall were obtained with the outer diameter of 1.147 mm and the inner diameter of 0.691 mm. The dependences of the oxygen permeation on the air flow rate on the shell side, the helium flow rate on the core side, the oxygen partial pressures, and the operating temperatures were experimentally investigated. According to the Wagner theory, it follows that the oxygen transport through the U‐shaped hollow‐fiber membrane is controlled by both surface reaction and bulk diffusion at the temperature ranges of 750–950°C. High oxygen permeation flux of 3.0 ml/(min cm2) was kept for about 250 h at 950°C under the conditions of the air feed flow rate of 150 ml/min and the helium flow rate of 50 ml/min. © 2010 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2011  相似文献

Composite layer containing postmodified MIL‐53 (P‐MIL‐53) was exploited to be coated on as‐fabricated asymmetric hollow fiber membrane for improving gas separation performance. The morphology and pore size distribution of P‐MIL‐53 particles were characterized by SEM and N2 adsorption isotherm. The EDX mapping and FTIR spectra were performed to confirm the presence of P‐MIL‐53 deposited on the outer surface of hollow fiber membranes. The results of pure gas permeation measurement indicated that incorporation of P‐MIL‐53 particles in coating layer could improve permeation properties of hollow fiber membranes. By varying coating times and P‐MIL‐53 content, the membrane coated with PDMS/15%P‐MIL‐53 composite by three times achieved best performance. Compared to pure PDMS coated membrane, CO2 permeance was enhanced from 29.96 GPU to 40.24 GPU and ideal selectivity of CO2/N2 and CO2/CH4 also increased from 23.28 and 26.95 to 28.08 and 32.03, respectively. The gas transport through composite membrane was governed by solution‐diffusion mechanism and CO2 preferential adsorption of P‐MIL‐53 contributed to considerable increase of CO2 solubility resulting in accelerated permeation rate. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The influences of bulk diffusion and surface exchange on oxygen transport of (La0.6Ca0.4)(Co0.8Fe0.2)O3-δ (LCCF) hollow fiber membranes were investigated. As an outcome, two strategies for increasing the oxygen permeation were pursued. First, porous LCCF hollow fibers as support were coated with a 22 μm dense LCCF separation layer through dip coating and co-sintering. The oxygen permeation of the porous fiber with dense layer reached up to 5.10 mL min?1 cm-2 at 1000 °C in a 50 % CO2 atmosphere. Second, surface etching of dense LCCF hollow fibers with H2SO4 was applied. The surface etching of both inner and outer surfaces leads to a permeation improvement up to 86.0 %. This finding implies that the surface exchange reaction plays a key role in oxygen transport through LCCF hollow fibers. A good long-term (>250 h) stability of the asymmetric hollow fiber in a 50 % CO2 atmosphere was found at 900 °C.  相似文献

A Mo‐substituted lanthanum tungstate mixed proton‐electron conductor, La5.5W0.6Mo0.4O11.25?δ (LWM04), was synthesized using solid state reactions. Dense U‐shaped LWM04 hollow‐fiber membranes were successfully prepared using wet‐spinning phase‐inversion and sintering. The stability of LWM04 in a CO2‐containing atmosphere and the permeation of hydrogen through the LWM04 hollow‐fiber membrane were investigated in detail. A high hydrogen permeation flux of 1.36 mL/min cm2 was obtained for the U‐shaped LWM04 hollow‐fiber membranes at 975°C when a mixture of 80% H2?20% He was used as the feed gas and the sweep side was humidified. Moreover, the hydrogen permeation flux did not significantly decrease over 70 h of operation when fed with a mixture containing 25% CO2, 50% H2, and 25% He, indicating that the LWM04 hollow‐fiber membrane has good stability under a CO2‐containing atmosphere. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 1997–2007, 2015  相似文献

In this study, La0.4Sr0.6CoO3‐δ (LSC) oxide was synthesized via an EDTA‐citrate complexing process and its application as a mixed‐conducting ceramic membrane for oxygen separation was systematically investigated. The phase structure of the powder and microstructure of the membrane were characterized by XRD and SEM, respectively. The optimum condition for membrane sintering was developed based on SEM and four‐probe DC electrical conductivity characterizations. The oxygen permeation fluxes at various temperatures and oxygen partial pressure gradients were measured by gas chromatography method. Fundamental equations of oxygen permeation and transport resistance through mixed conducting membrane were developed. The oxygen bulk diffusion coefficient (Dv) and surface exchange coefficient (Kex) for LSC membrane were derived by model regression. The importance of surface exchange kinetics at each side of the membrane on oxygen permeation flux under different oxygen partial pressure gradients and temperatures were quantitatively distinguished from the oxygen bulk diffusion. The maximum oxygen flux achieved based on 1.6‐mm‐thick La0.4Sr0.6CoO3‐δ membrane was ~4.0 × 10?7 mol cm?2 s?1at 950°C. However, calculation results show theoretical oxygen fluxes as high as 2.98 × 10?5 mol cm?2 s?1 through a 5‐μm‐thick LSC membrane with ideal surface modification when operating at 950°C for air separation. © 2009 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2009  相似文献

For the purpose of separating aqueous alcohol by the use of pervaporation technique, a composite membrane of chitosan (CT) dip‐coated cellulose acetate (CA) hollow‐fiber membranes, CT‐d‐CA, was investigated. The effects of air‐gap distance in the spinning of CA hollow‐fiber membranes, chitosan concentration, and sorts of aqueous alcohol solutions on the pervaporation performances were studied. Compared with unmodified CA hollow‐fiber membrane, the CT‐d‐CA composite hollow‐fiber membrane effectively increases the permselectivity of water. The thickness of coating layer increases with an increase in chitosan concentration. As the concentration of chitosan solution increased, the permeation rate decreased and the concentration of water in the permeate increased. In addition, the effects of feed composition and feed solution temperature on the pervaporation performances were also investigated. The permeation rate and water content in permeate at 25°C for a 90 wt % aqueous isopropanol solution through the CT‐d‐CA composite hollow‐fiber membrane with a 5‐cm air‐gap distance spun, 2 wt % chitosan dip‐coated system were 169.5 g/m2 h and 98.9 wt %, respectively. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To accelerate the commercial application of mixed‐conducting membrane reactor for catalytic reaction processes, a robust mixed‐conducting multichannel hollow fiber (MCMHF) membrane reactor was constructed and characterized in this work. The MCMHF membrane based on reduction‐tolerant and CO2‐stable SrFe0.8Nb0.2O3‐δ (SFN) oxide not only possesses a good mechanical strength but also has a high oxygen permeation flux under air/He gradient, which is about four times that of SFN disk membrane. When partial oxidation of methane (POM) was performed in the MCMHF membrane reactor, excellent reaction performance (oxygen flux of 19.2 mL min?1 cm?2, hydrogen production rate of 54.7 mL min?1 cm?2, methane conversion of 94.6% and the CO selectivity of 99%) was achieved at 1173 K. And also, the MCMHF membrane reactor for POM reaction was operated stably for 120 h without obvious degradation of reaction performance. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 2592–2599, 2015  相似文献

Polypropylene (PP) composite films were successfully prepared using melt blending by directly mixing PP pellets with zeolite A or silver‐zeolite A powder and then blowing. All the prepared films were characterized in terms of their physical, mechanical, optical, and gas permeability properties. The structure of each composite film was similar to that of the pure PP film. The crystallinity and glossy quality of the composite films were increased by the addition of silver, zeolite, and maleic anhydride grafted PP (PP‐g ‐MA). The composite PP film with zeolite A and PP‐g ‐MA exhibited a level of oxygen and carbon dioxide permeation (6438 and 15,087 cc m?2 day?1 atm?1, respectively). Finally, all the films were evaluated for their antibacterial activity and fruit packaging applications. Silver‐zeolite A‐PP composite films exhibited a bactericidal activity of 79% against Staphylococcus aureus and 52% against Escherichia coli , while the zeolite A‐PP film could extend the shelf‐life of bananas for over a week. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Hollow‐fiber ultrafiltration (UF) membranes were prepared from blends of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) and polystyrene (PS) with a dry/wet phase inversion method. Poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) and N,N‐dimethylacetamide were used as the additive and solvent, respectively. The effects of the PEG concentration in the dope solution as an additive on the cross sections and inner and outer surface morphologies, permeability, and separation performance of the hollow fibers were examined. The mean pore size, pore size distribution, and mean roughness of both the inner and outer surfaces of the produced hollow fibers were determined by atomic force microscopy. Also, the mechanical properties of the hollow‐fiber membranes were investigated. UF experiments were conducted with aqueous solutions of poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP; K‐90, Mw = 360 kDa). From the results, we found that the PVC/PS hollow‐fiber membranes had two layers with a fingerlike structure. These two layers were changed from a wide and long to a thin and short morphology with increasing PEG concentration. A novel and until now undescribed shape of the nodules in the outer surfaces, which was denoted as a sea‐waves shape, was observed. The outer and inner pore sizes both increased with increasing PEG concentration. The water permeation flux of the hollow fibers increased from 104 to 367 L m?2 h?1 bar?1) at higher PEG concentrations. The PVP rejection reached the highest value at a PEG concentration of 4 wt %, whereas at higher values (from 4 to 9 wt %), the rejection decreased. The same trend was found also for the tensile stress at break, Young's modulus, and elongation at break of the hollow fibers. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. A novel coating technique, named as two‐way coating (TWC), was explored to prepare hollow fiber composite (HFC) nanofiltration (NF) membrane through interfacial polymerization from piperazine (PIP) and trimesoyl chloride (TMC) on the lumen side of hollow fiber polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane with an effective membrane area of 0.4 m2. The optimum preparation conditions were systematically investigated and obtained as follows: PIP 0.023 mol/L, TMC 0.0057 mol/L, air blowing rate 2.7 m/s for 30 min after aqueous coating, aqueous coating pressure 0.1 MPa, organic solution flowing rate 0.32 m/s, and heat treating time 3 min. The resultant HFC membrane showed a high selectivity of divalent ion and monovalent ion. Salt rejections of MgSO4 and NaCl were 98.13 and 18.6% with the permeate flux of 32.6 and 40.2 L m?2 h?1 at 0.7 MPa, respectively. Field emission scanning electron microscopy images indicated that composite membrane prepared by TWC technique had a uniform active layer from the upper end to the bottom of the hollow fiber. And the salt rejection and permeate flux showed almost no difference between different membrane sections. Stability results suggested that good reproducibility could be obtained by TWC technique for the preparation of high‐performance HFC NF membrane. The resultant NF membrane showed a high removal rate of chemical oxygen demand and chroma of landfill leachate which were approximately 100%. © 2014 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. High‐temperature vapor permeation has a stringent requirement of membrane stability under harsh feed environments. This work reports the design of Teflon AF2400/Ultem composite hollow fiber (HF) membranes for alcohol dehydration via vapor permeation. Fabrication parameters such as Teflon concentration and coating time were systematically investigated. Interestingly, the fabricated composite HF membranes possess an unusual surface with honeycomb‐like microstructure patterns. Owing to the Teflon protective layer, the newly developed composite HF shows a promising and stable separation performance with a flux of 4265 gm?2 h?1 and a separation factor of 383 for 95% isopropanol dehydration at 125°C. The composite HF also performs well under extreme vapor feed compositions from 87 to 99 wt % isopropanol. In addition, it exhibits impressive separation performance for the dehydration of ethanol and n‐butanol. This work may provide useful insights of designing thermal‐stable and high‐performance composite polymeric membranes for vapor permeation. © 2016 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 62: 1747–1757, 2016  相似文献

Outer‐selective thin‐film composite (TFC) hollow fiber membranes offer advantages like less fiber blockage in the feed stream and high packing density for industrial applications. However, outer‐selective TFC hollow fiber membranes are rarely commercially available due to the lack of effective ways to remove residual reactants from fiber's outer surface during interfacial polymerization and form a defect‐free polyamide film. A new simplified method to fabricate outer‐selective TFC membranes on tribore hollow fiber substrates is reported. Mechanically robust tribore hollow fiber substrates containing three circular‐sector channels were first prepared by spinning a P84/ethylene glycol mixed dope solution with delayed demixing at the fiber lumen. The thin wall tribore hollow fibers have a large pure water permeability up to 300 L m?2 h?1 bar?1. Outer‐selective TFC tribore hollow fiber membranes were then fabricated by interfacial polymerization with the aid of vacuum sucking to ensure the TFC layer well‐attached to the substrate. Under forward osmosis studies, the TFC tribore hollow fiber membrane exhibits a good water flux and a small flux difference between active‐to‐draw (i.e., the active layer facing the draw solution) and active‐to‐feed (i.e., the active layer facing the feed solution) modes due to the small internal concentration polarization. A hyperbranched polyglycerol was further grafted on top of the newly developed TFC tribore hollow fiber membranes for oily wastewater treatment. The membrane displays low fouling propensity and can fully recover its water flux after a simple 20‐min water wash at 0.5 bar from its lumen side, which makes the membrane preferentially suitable for oil‐water separation. © 2015 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 61: 4491–4501, 2015  相似文献

Fixed‐carrier composite hollow‐fiber membranes were prepared with polyvinylamine (PVAm) as the selective layer and a polysulfone ultrafiltration membrane as the substrate. The effects of the PVAm concentration in the coating solution, the number of coatings, and the crosslinking of glutaraldehyde and sulfuric acid on the CO2 permeation rate and CO2/CH4 selectivity of the composite membranes were investigated. As the PVAm concentration and the number of coatings increased, the CO2/CH4 selectivity increased, but the CO2 permeation rate decreased. The membranes crosslinked by glutaraldehyde or sulfuric acid possessed higher CO2/CH4 selectivities but lower CO2 permeation rates. For the pure feed gas, a composite hollow‐fiber membrane coated with a 2 wt % PVAm solution two times and then crosslinked with glutaraldehyde and an acid solution in sequence had a CO2 permeation rate of 3.99 × 10?6 cm3 cm?2 s?1 cmHg?1 and an ideal CO2/CH4 selectivity of 206 at a feed gas pressure of 96 cmHg and 298 K. The effect of time on the performance of the membranes was also investigated. The performance stability of the membranes was good during 6 days of testing. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Nickel is a cheaper metallic material compared to palladium membranes for H2 separation. In this work, metallic Ni hollow fiber membranes were fabricated by a combined phase inversion and atmospheric sintering method. The morphology and membrane thickness of the hollow fibers was tuned by varying the spinning parameters like bore liquid flow rate and air gap distance. H2 permeation through the Ni hollow fibers with N2 as the sweep gas was measured under various operating conditions. A rigorous model considering temperature profiles was developed to fit the experimental data. The results show that the hydrogen permeation flux can be well described by using the Sieverts’ equation, implying that the membrane bulk diffusion is still the rate‐limiting step. The hydrogen separation rate in the Ni hollow fiber module can be improved by 4–8% when switching the co‐current flow to the countercurrent flow operation. © 2017 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 63: 3026–3034, 2017  相似文献

Poly(4‐methyl‐1‐pentene) (PMP) hollow fibers were prepared and fabricated into gas separation or microporous membranes by the melt‐spun and cold‐stretched method. PMP resin was melt‐extruded into hollow fibers with cold air as the cooling medium. The effects of take‐up speed and thermotreatment on the mechanical behavior and morphology of the fibers were investigated. Scanning electronic microscope (SEM) photos were used to reveal the geometric structure of the section and surface of the hollow fibers. It was found that the original fiber had an asymmetric structure. A “sandwich” mode was used to describe the formation of this special fine structure. And a series of PMP hollow‐fiber membranes were prepared by subsequent drawing, and it was found that there was a “skin–core” structure on the cross section of these hollow‐fiber membranes. Asymmetric or microporous PMP hollow‐fiber membranes could be obtained by controlling posttreatment conditions. The morphology of these membranes were characterized by SEM, and the gas (oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon dioxide) permeation properties of the membranes was measured. The results indicate that the annealing time of the original fiber and the stretching ratio were the key factors influencing the structure of the resulting membrane. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A number of U‐shaped K2NiF4‐type oxide hollow fiber membranes based on (Pr0.9La0.1)2(Ni0.74Cu0.21Ga0.05)O4+δ (PLNCG) were successfully prepared by a phase inversion spinning process. The PLNCG hollow fiber membranes were then used to investigate the effect of CO2 concentration in both the sweep gas and the feed air on the oxygen permeation flux. With pure CO2 as the sweep gas and even 10% CO2 in the feed air, a steady oxygen permeation flux of 0.9 mL/min·cm2 (STP) is obtained at 975°C during 310 h, and no decline of the oxygen permeation flux is observed. XRD, SEM and EDS characterizations show the spent membrane still maintains the intact microstructure and perfect K2NiF4‐type phase structure without carbonate, which indicates that the U‐shaped PLNCG hollow fiber membrane is a very stable membrane under CO2 atmosphere and has great potential for the practical application in oxyfuel techniques for CO2 capture and storage.©2011 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 2012  相似文献

A modification of the carrier gas method for measuring permeability of a hollow fiber to a vapor is described with particular application to water vapor permeation through asymmetric cellulose triacetate in hollow fiber from. Conventional methods are inadequate because the high flux of permeation vapor combined with its low pressure on the permeate side and the small diameter of the fiber lead to an excessive buildup of pressure in the permeate stream—in some cases so great as to render much of the fiber length ineffective. The method described in this paper involves the permeation from the outside to the inside of the fiber of a binary mixture consisting of the water vapor and a fairly highly permeable carrier (helium). There is a significant pressure drop along the fiber, but a theoretical treatment is presented to take this into account and to permit a determination of the vapor permeability. Experiments at 35°C over a range of water vapor pressures up to 1.7 cm Hg gave a water flux of 9 × 10?3 cc(S.T.P.)/cm2-sec-cm Hg, with an apparent slight decrease with increasing pressure. Over the same range of water vapor pressure the helium flux decreased from 2.3 × 10?4 to 1.85 × 10?4 cc(S.T.P.)/cm2-sec-cm Hg.  相似文献
