The demand for multimedia services, such as voice over Internet Protocol, video on demand, information dissemination, and ?le sharing, is increasing explosively in wireless local area networks. These multimedia services require a certain level of QoS. Thus, it is important to provide QoS for multimedia applications. IEEE 802.11e tries to meet the QoS requirement of multimedia services by using Enhanced Distributed Channel Access. This gives more weights to high‐priority tra?c than low‐priority tra?c in accessing the wireless channel. However, Enhanced Distributed Channel Access suffers from many problems such as low aggregate throughput, high collision rates, and ineffective QoS differentiation among priority classes. In this paper, we propose a new medium access scheme, the Arbitration Interframe Space‐controlled Medium Access Control (AC‐MAC), that guarantees absolute priority in 802.11 wireless networks. In AC‐MAC, the AIFS and contention window values are controlled, so that a higher‐priority tra?c can preferentially access and effectively utilize the channel. Extensive simulations show that AC‐MAC can perfectly provide absolute priority and good throughput performance regardless of the number of contending nodes. In the simulation of voice over Internet Protocol service, AC‐MAC provides effective QoS differentiation among services and also meets the high level of QoS requirements. AC‐MAC also adapts quickly in a dynamic environment and provides good fairness among the nodes belonging to the same priority class. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

本文提出了一种适用于具有移动终端的OFDM无线局域网的信道估计方法.该方法采用了卡尔曼滤波算法进行了信道估计,并利用导频进行信道跟踪.将基于训练序列的信道估计结果作为Kalman滤波器的初始值和观测值,用基于导频的信道估计结果来计算Kalman滤波器参数.并利用导频进一步跟踪信道在时间上的变化.Simulink仿真结果表明,该算法比基于导频的信道估计方法和基于训练序列的信道估计方法效果都要好.  相似文献

为了提高Ad Hoc网络的性能,提出一种新的基于跨层的MAC协议,它能自适应的选择802.11b物理层规范中的两种不同的物理层数据单元格式进行传输。由于具有短导频的物理层数据单元格式比具有长导频的物理层数据格式占用更少的信道时间,基于跨层的MAC协议在一定条件下,采用具有短导频的物理层数据单元进行传输以减少物理层的开销,提高网络性能。其基本思想是如果需要通信的两个节点都支持具有短导频的物理层数据格式,则采用具有短导频的物理层数据格式进行传输,否则,采用具有长导频的物理层数据格式进行传输。同时提出一种自适应的网络分配向量计算算法,该算法能够根据MAC数据包的持续时间值判断节点是否支持具有短导频的物理层数据格式,不需要修改802.11b的帧格式。通过NS仿真证明,基于跨层的MAC协议能够提高网络的性能,如端到端的时延、吞吐量和传包率。  相似文献

本文在研究现有的无线局域网802.11 MAC层拥塞控制的基础上,提出了一种增强的拥塞控制性能的算法,称为"慢启动递减算法"(SSDS:Slow-Start Decrease Scheme).该算法通过修改802.11的MAC层中的DCF(Distributed Coordination Function)子协议,改善了IEEE802.11无线局域网在拥塞情况下的性能,提高了网络吞吐量.文中通过仿真对算法进行了分析和研究.  相似文献

This article presents a combined layer two and three control loop, which allows prediction of link breakage in wireless ad hoc networks. The method monitors the physical layer transmission mode on layer two and exploits the gained knowledge at layer three. The mechanism bases on link adaptation, which is used in IEEE 802.11a WLAN to select the transmission mode according to the link quality. The process of link adaptation contains information that is useful to predict link stability and link lifetime. After introducing the IEEE 802.11a Medium Access Control (MAC) and PHY layer, we present insight to the IEEE 802.11a link adaptation behaviour in multi-hop ad hoc networks. The link adaptation algorithm presented here is derived from Auto Rate Fallback (ARF) algorithm. We survey the performance gain of two newly developed route adaptation approaches exploding the prediction results. One approach is Early Route ReArrangement (ERRA) that starts a route reconstruction procedure before link breakage. Hence, an alternative route is available before connectivity is lost. Early Route Update (ERU) is a complementing approach that enhances this process, by communications among routing nodes surrounding the breaking link. The delay caused by route reconstruction can be significantly reduced if prediction and either of our new route discovery processes is used.  相似文献

对无线自组织网络中可用带宽估计问题进行了研究,提出了在估计过程中必须将全局服务质量(QoS)保障作为可用带宽的估计准则。建立了无线自组织网络中非饱和条件下异构的分析模型,该模型能将业务流的QoS度量映射为网络参数,在此基础上设计了能提供QoS保障的可用带宽估计算法。本文所提出的估计算法将包括时延、丢包率与吞吐量在内的QoS需求不被破坏作为可用带宽估计的约束条件,克服了现有的工作将无约束的最大可达吞吐量作为可用带宽因而导致业务的QoS可能受到影响这一缺陷,从而使得估计结果更加合理与准确。仿真实验证明了分析模型与可用带宽估计算法的准确性。   相似文献

Many Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs) are composed of nodes with heterogeneous communication capabilities in terms of transmission power, data rate, battery life, reliability, etc. Heterogeneous MANETS (H-MANETs) often encounter problems in both Medium Access Control (MAC) and routing layers due to link asymmetry. But meanwhile, H-MANETs have many advantages including: scalability, robustness, and connectivity. In this paper we present a two-layer approach which spans the MAC and network layers for H-MANETs to minimize the problems caused by link asymmetry and exploit the advantages of H-MANETs simultaneously. At the network layer, we design a hierarchical Location service (LS) protocol and a node density adaptive position-based routing protocol. At the MAC layer we propose a new MAC protocol which uses two communication channels and closely ties in with the network layer to solve the MAC problems caused by link asymmetry. This paper presents a distributed medium access control (MAC) protocol for low data rate ultra‐wideband (UWB) wireless sensor networks (WSNs), named LA‐MAC. Current MAC proposal is closely coupled to the IEEE 802.15.4a physical layer and it is based on its Impulse‐Radio (IR) paradigm. LA‐MAC protocol amplifies its admission control mechanism with location‐awareness, by exploiting the ranging capability of the UWB signals. The above property leads to accurate interference predictions and blocking assessments that each node in the network can perform locally, limiting at the same time the actions needed to be performed towards the admission phase. LA‐MAC is evaluated through extensive simulations, showing a significant improvement in many critical parameters, such as throughput, admission ratio, energy consumption, and delay, under different traffic load conditions. The Distributed Point Coordination Function (DPCF) is presented in this paper as a novel Medium Access Control Protocol (MAC) for wireless ad hoc networks. DPCF extends the operation of the Point Coordination Function (PCF) defined in the IEEE 802.11 Standard to operate over wireless networks without infrastructure. In PCF, a central point coordinator polls the users to get access to the channel and data collisions are completely avoided, thus yielding high performance. In order to extend its high performance to networks without infrastructure, the DPCF is proposed in this paper as a combination of the Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) and the PCF. The general idea is to combine a dynamic, temporary, and spontaneous clustering mechanism based on DCF with the execution of PCF within each cluster. The backwards compatibility of DPCF with legacy 802.11 networks is also assessed in this paper. Comprehensive computer-based simulations demonstrate the high performance of this new protocol in both single-hop and multi-hop networks.  相似文献

In this paper we address the problem of finding the optimal performance region of a wireless ad hoc network when multiple performance metrics are considered. Our contribution is to propose a novel cross-layer framework for deriving the Pareto optimal performance bounds for the network. These Pareto bounds provide key information for understanding the network behavior and the performance trade-offs when multiple criteria are relevant. Our approach is to take a holistic view of the network that captures the cross-interactions among interference management techniques implemented at various layers of the protocol stack (e.g. routing and resource allocation) and determines the objective functions for the multiple criteria to be optimized. The resulting complex multiobjective optimization problem is then solved by multiobjective search techniques. The Pareto optimal sets for an example sensor network are presented and analyzed when delay, reliability and energy objectives are considered.  相似文献

The performance of backoff scheme plays an important role in designing efficient Medium Access Protocols for ad hoc networks. In this paper, we propose an adaptive backoff scheme and evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme for ad hoc networks. The backoff mechanism devised by us grants a node access to the channel based on its probability of collision for a transmitted frame in comparison to the nodes in the two‐hop contention area. We use both an analytical model and simulation experiments to evaluate the performance of our adaptive backoff mechanism in an ad hoc network. The results show that our protocol exhibits a significant improvement in power saving, end‐to‐end goodput, packet delivery ratio, and hop‐put, compared with the existing IEEE 802.11 DCF. Using directional antennas in ad hoc networks may introduce the well-known deafness problem, exacerbate the hidden terminal problem and the exposed terminal problem, add difficulty on mobile communication, and distort the operation of existing routing and TCP protocols. Although a lot of studies have been undertaken on the directional MAC protocols, most of them focus only on one or several aspects in their design and performance evaluations, and a comprehensive comparative study is missing. In this paper, we first explore the design space of directional MAC and present a taxonomy of existing schemes. Then, we discuss the major problems in using directional antennas under different category of MAC schemes. After that, we propose coordinated directional medium access control (CDMAC), a novel directional MAC protocol to improve throughput via facilitating the simultaneous contention-free communications for multiple local node-pairs. We evaluate our CDMAC, one representative existing scheme and IEEE 802.11 via extensive ns2 simulations. Our results show CDMAC provides a satisfactory solution to all the major problems and significantly improves the throughput performance.  相似文献

Rate adaptation in wireless networking aims to seek the optimal data transmission rate most appropriate for current wireless channel conditions to make full use of the channel potentials. It is important in wireless networks because (1) most of them support multiple data rates, and (2) wireless channel is unstable with fast changes on which a single rate thereby may not be proper for long. Based on a comprehensive survey of the rate adaptation for IEEE 802.1 networks in literature, this work proposes a rate adaptation scheme, dubbed effective rate adaptation (ERA), for IEEE 802.11 networks. ERA takes advantage of the fragmentation technique in IEEE 802.11 standard and utilizes the lowest rate retransmission in diagnosing frame loss cause (collision or channel degradation), diffusing collision, and promptly recovering frame losses. It also adopts an adaptive rate increase threshold concept to exploit channel potentials. Different from other rate adaptation schemes, ERA effectively addresses two challenges in rate adaptation on IEEE 802.11 networks: (1) it does not require RTS/CTS for loss diagnosis purpose; the use of RTS/CTS that are optional in IEEE standard results in inefficiency on channel utilization; (2) it promptly responds to frame failure due to channel degradation, unlike others waiting till the end of a transmission window or cycle. 多包接收技术在无线网络中的应用为提高网络吞吐量提供了一种新思路。本文在结合多包接收技术的基础上提出了一种应用于ad hoc网络的新的媒体接入控制算法,并对其吞吐量作了分析,与IEEE802.11MAC接入方式进行了性能比较。仿真结果表明,在业务量大于某一特定值时,新算法可以显著的提高ad hoc网络的吞吐量。  相似文献

In this paper, we study the multichannel exposed terminal problem in multihop wireless networks. We propose a multichannel medium access control (MAC) protocol, called multichannel MAC protocol with hopping reservation (MMAC‐HR), to resolve the multichannel exposed terminal problem. MMAC‐HR uses two radio interfaces; one interface is fixed over the control channel, and the other interface switches dynamically between data channels. The fixed interface supports broadcast information and reserves a data channel for any data transmission. The switchable interface, on other hand, is for data exchanges and follows independent slow hopping without requiring clock synchronization. In addition, the proposed protocol is a distributed one. By using the ns‐2 simulator, extensive simulations are performed to demonstrate that MMAC‐HR can enhance the network throughput and delay compared with existing multichannel MAC protocol.
