In this study, a solar and wind energy-based system integrated with H2O2 combustor is developed to produce fresh water from sea-water desalination, electricity, cooling, hydrogen, and oxygen as well as to provide food drying and domestic water heating. The main components of the proposed system contains concentrated solar power (CSP), wind turbine, Rankine cycle, multi stage flash (MSF) desalination unit, water electrolyzer, a refrigeration unit, a food drying system, oxy-hydrogen combustor, domestic water heater, as well as hydrogen and oxygen storage units. Furthermore, for continuous operation of the system during night time and in cloudy weather conditions, a thermal energy storage (TES) unit and oxy-hydrogen combustion unit are integrated to the system. Based on energy and exergy balances, performance assessment of the proposed system is conducted. Moreover, effects of various parameters such as solar irradiation, wind speed and ambient temperature on some of the outputs of the system are investigated. The results illustrate that the proposed system fulfills most of the remote community requirements in an efficient, environmentally benign and uninterrupted way. The obtained results for the reference case show that with installation of parabolic trough concentrators (PTCs) on an area of 111,728 m2, the plant produces net electrical power of approximately 11.4 MW, approximately 828 m3/day of freshwater, about 36 kg/s of hot air for food drying, about 31 kg/s of heated domestic water, approximately 920 kg/day of H2 and about 2.26 MW of cooling. The overall energy efficiency of the system is found to be 50%, while the exergy efficiency of the system is 34%. In addition, the energy and exergy efficiencies of single generation in which there is only electrical power output are approximately 15% and 16%, respectively.  相似文献

Decentralization of electrical power generation using rooftop solar units is projected to develop to not only mitigate power losses along transmission and distribution lines, but to control greenhouse gases emissions. Due to intermittency of solar energy, traditional batteries are used to store energy. However, batteries have several drawbacks such as limited lifespan, low storage capacity, uncontrolled discharge when not connected to a load and limited number of charge/discharge cycles. In this paper, the feasibility of using hydrogen as a battery is analyzed where hydrogen is produced by the extra diurnal generated electricity by a rooftop household solar power generation unit and utilized in a fuel cell system to generate the required electrical power at night. In the proposed design, two rooftop concentrated photovoltaic thermal (CPVT) systems coupled with an organic Rankine cycle (ORC) are used to generate electricity during 9.5 h per day and the extra power is utilized in an electrolyzer to produce hydrogen. Various working fluids (Isobutane, R134a, R245fa and R123) are used in the ORC system to analyze the maximum feasible power generation by this section. Under the operating conditions, the generated power by ORC as well as its efficiency are evaluated for various working fluids and the most efficient working fluid is selected. The required power for the compressor in the hydrogen storage process is calculated and the number of electrolyzer cells required for the hydrogen production system is determined. The results indicate that the hybrid CPVT-ORC system produces 2.378 kW of electricity at 160 suns. Supplying 65% of the produced electricity to an electrolyzer, 0.2606 kg of hydrogen is produced and stored for nightly use in a fuel cell system. This amount of hydrogen can generate the required electrical power at night while the efficiency of electrolyzer is more than 70%.  相似文献

Solar water splitting is considered a greatly promising technique for producing clean hydrogen fuel. However, limited studies have paid attention to the designs of photo-electrochemical (PEC) reactors. In this regard, two different designs of PEC reactor are proposed and studied numerically in the present paper. The effects of important design parameters on the system performance are also investigated. The PEC governing equations of transport phenomena related to water splitting reactor are developed and numerically solved. According to the current results, the rate of the hydrogen volume production and the solar - to - hydrogen conversion efficiency increase as an applied solar incident flux increases for both proposed designs. The solar - to - hydrogen conversion efficiencies are calculated to be 12.65% for design 1 and 12.48% for design 2. The hydrogen volume production rate is performed to achieve 78.3 L/m2 h by design 1, and 74.8 L/m2 h by design 2.  相似文献

In this study, electricity and hydrogen production of an integrated system with energy and exergy analyses are investigated. The system also produces clean water for the water electrolysis system. The proposed system comprises evacuated tube solar collectors (ETSCs), parabolic trough solar collectors (PTSCs), flash turbine, organic Rankine cycles (ORC), a reverse osmosis unit (RO), a water electrolysis unit (PEM), a greenhouse and a medium temperature level geothermal resource. The surface area of each collector is 500 m2. The thermodynamics analysis of the integrated system is carried out under daily solar radiation for a day in August. The fluid temperature of the medium temperature level geothermal resource is upgraded by ETSCs and PTSCs to operate the flash turbine and the ORCs. The temperature of the geothermal fluid is upgraded from 130 °C to 323.6 °C by the ETSCs and PTSCs. As a result, it is found that the integrated system generates 162 kg clean water, 1215.63 g hydrogen, and total electrical energy of 2111.04 MJ. The maximum energy and exergy efficiencies of the overall system are found as 10.43% and 9.35%, respectively.  相似文献

This study proposes a combined hydrogen, heating and power system based on solar energy for the off-grid application of distributed renewable energy. With hydrogen as the energy carrier, the stable consumption of renewable energy can be achieved by integrating alkaline water electrolysis (AWE), metal hydride (MH) hydrogen storage, and proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). An energy management strategy is proposed based on the coordinated control of mass, energy, and information flow. Fluctuations in multi-source heat flow during solar photovoltaic (PV) power generation, hydrogen production, hydrogen-storage, and PEMFC power generation were studied based on electric and heating loads of typical winter and summer days in an eco-neighborhood in Ningbo, China. Owing to differences in solar radiation between summer and winter, the total electric energy generated by PV panels was 6179 kWh and 3667 kWh for summer and winter, respectively. The start-up times for AWE and MHs were 0.92 h and 0.32 h in summer and 1.70 h and 0.55 h in winter, respectively. After one day of operation, the hydrogen and heat surpluses were 57.17 kg and 5735.83 MJ in summer, while in winter the hydrogen surplus and heat deficit were 30.87 kg and 226.41 MJ, respectively.  相似文献

This paper presents a conceptual design of a solar powered hydrogen fueling station for a single family home in Wallingford, Connecticut, USA. Sixty high-efficiency monocrystalline silicon photovoltaic (PV) solar panels (Total capacity: 18.9 kW) account for approximately 94.7% of the hydrogen home’s power consumption. The fueling station consists of a 165 bar high pressure electrolyzer for on-site production of 2.24 kg/day of hydrogen, three-bank cascade configuration storage tanks (4.26 kg of H2 at 350 bar) and a SAE J2600 compliant hydrogen nozzle. The system produces 0.8 kg/day of hydrogen for a fuel cell vehicle with an average commute of 56 km/day (Fuel mileage: 71 km/kg H2). Safety codes and standards applicable at the facility are described, and a well-to-wheel analysis is performed to contrast the carbon dioxide emissions of conventional gasoline and fuel cell vehicles. The energy efficiency obtained by incorporating a solar-hydrogen system for residential applications is also computed.  相似文献

India is one of the most populous countries in the world, and this has implications for its energy consumption. The country's electricity generation and road transport are mostly dominated by fossil fuels. As such, this study assessed the techno-economics and environmental impact of a solar photovoltaic power plant for both electricity and hydrogen production at five different locations in India (i.e., Chennai, Indore, Kolkata, Ludhiana, and Mumbai). The hydrogen load represents a refueling station for 20 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles with a tank capacity of 5 kg for each location. According to the results, the highest hydrogen production occurred at Kolkata with 82,054 kg/year, followed by Chennai with 79,030 kg/year. Ludhiana, Indore, and Mumbai followed with 78,524 kg/year, 76,935 kg/year and 74,510 kg/year, respectively. The levelized cost of energy (LCOE) for all locations ranges between 0.41 and 0.48 $/kWh. Mumbai recorded the least LCOH of 3.00 $/kg. The total electricity that could be generated from all five cities combined was found to be about 25 GWh per annum, which translates to an avoidable emission of 20,744.07 metric tons of CO2e. Replacing the gasoline that could be used to fuel the vehicles with hydrogen will result in a CO2 reduction potential of 2452.969 tons per annum in India. The findings indicate that the various optimized configurations at the various locations could be economically viable to be developed.  相似文献

This paper uses the TRNSYS software to investigate the hourly energy generation potential, storage, and consumption via an electrolyzer and a fuel cell in the Canadian city of Saskatoon, which is a region with high solar and wind energy potential. For this purpose, a location with an area of 10,000 m2 was considered, in which the use of solar panels and vertical-axis wind turbines (VAWTs) were simulated. In the simulation, the solar panels were placed at specific distances, and the energy generation capacity, amount of produced hydrogen, and the energy available from the fuel cell were examined hourly and compared to the case with wind turbines placed at standard distances. The results indicated energy generation capacities of 1,966,084 kWh and 75,900 kWh for the solar panels and the wind turbines, respectively, showing the high potential of solar panels compared to wind turbines. Moreover, the fuel cells in the solar and wind systems can produce 733,077 kWh and 22,629 kWh of energy per year, respectively, if they store all of the received energy in the form of hydrogen. Finally, the hourly rates of hydrogen production by the solar and wind systems were reported.  相似文献

A comprehensive life cycle assessment (LCA) is carried out for three methods of hydrogen production by solar energy: hydrogen production by PEM water electrolysis coupling photothermal power generation, hydrogen production by PEM water electrolysis coupling photovoltaic power generation, and hydrogen production by thermochemical water splitting method using S–I cycle coupling solar photothermal technology. The assessment also contains an evaluation of four environmental factors which are global warming potential, acidification potential, ozone depletion potential, and nutrient enrichment potential. After conducting a quantitative analysis of all three methods with environmental factors being considered, a conclusion has been drawn: The global warming potential and the acidification potential of the thermochemical water splitting by S–I cycle coupling solar photothermal technology are 1.02 kg CO2-eq and 6.56E-3 kg SO2-eq. And this method has significant advantages in the environmental impact of the whole ecosystem.  相似文献

The paper discusses the feasibility of the use solar energy into hydrogen production using a photovoltaic energy system in the four main cities of Iraq. An off-grid photovoltaic system with a capacity of 22.0 kWp, an 8.0 kW alkaline electrolyser, a hydrogen compressor, and a hydrogen tank were simulated for one year in order to generate hydrogen. A mathematical model of the proposed system behavior is presented using MATLAB/Simulink, considering nine years from the 2021 to 2030 project span using hourly experimental weather data. The outcomes demonstrated that the annual hydrogen production ranged from 1713.92 kg up to 1891.12 kg, oxygen production ranged from 1199.74 to 1323.78 kg, and water consumption ranged from 7139.91 L to 7877.29 L. The hydrogen evaluated costs equal to $3.79/kg. The results show that the optimum site for solar hydrogen production systems can be established in the midwest of Iraq and in other cities with similar climates, especially those that get a lot of sunlight.  相似文献

Developing cost-effective and superior bifunctional electrocatalysts for alkaline water splitting is crucial to realizing hydrogen economy. However, in industrial applications, especially at high current densities, the sluggish kinetic process and the dissatisfactory prolonged stability of electrocatalysts astrict their applications. Herein, the superhydrophilic/superhydrophobic NiFe layered double hydroxide (LDH) with oxygen vacancies was designed in situ grown on iron foam (NiFe/IF) as a high-performance bifunctional electrocatalyst. The unique feature of the superhydrophilic/superaerophobic surface makes for electrolyte penetration and bubbles release, and the existence of oxygen vacancies grants the catalyst with enhanced inherent catalytic activity. Moreover, in situ Raman analysis reveals NiFe LDH could undergo surface reconstruction into active NiOOH species in the electrooxidation environment. Profiting from the above superiorities, the prepared NiFe/IF displays superior OER activity in 1 M KOH with low overpotentials of 245.2, and 480.2 mV to supply 100 and 1000 mA cm−2, respectively. And the NiFe/IF exhibits prominent stability at 1000 mA cm−2 under a simulated industrial condition (6 M KOH and 85 °C). Moreover, the water electrolysis device based on NiFe/IF as anode and cathode was assembled with a commercial solar cell to simulate a photovoltaic-driven water splitting system, which revealed a superior efficiency of 15.13% for solar hydrogen production.  相似文献

The plant total electrical energy output is calculated as 20,125 kW, while the plant energetic and exergetic effectiveness are 58.76% and 55.64%. Furthermore, the hydrogen and ammonia generation are found to be 0.0855 kg/s and 0.3336 kg/s.  相似文献

Experimental results for hydrogen storage tanks with metal hydrides used for load leveling of electricity in commercial buildings are described. Variability in electricity demand due to air conditioning of commercial buildings necessitates installation of on-site energy storage. Here, we propose a totalized hydrogen energy utilization system (THEUS) as an on-site energy storage system, present feasibility test results for this system with a metal hydride tank, and discuss the energy efficiency of the system. This system uses a water electrolyzer to store electricity energy via hydrogen at night and uses fuel cells to generate power during the day. The system also utilizes the cold heat of reaction heat during the hydrogen desorption process for air conditioning. The storage tank has a shell-like structure and tube heat exchangers and contains 50 kg of metal hydride. Experimental conditions were specifically designed to regulate the pressure and temperature range. Absorption and desorption of 5,400 NL of hydrogen was successfully attained when the absorption rate was 10 NL/min and desorption rate was 6.9 NL/min. A 24-h cycle experiment emulating hydrogen generation at night and power generation during the day revealed that the system achieved a ratio of recovered thermal energy to the entire reaction heat of the hydrogen storage system of 43.2% without heat loss.  相似文献

Hydrogen is broadly utilized in various industries. It can also be considered as a future clean energy carrier. Currently, hydrogen is mainly produced from typical fuels such as coal; however, there exist some other clean alternatives which use water decomposition techniques. Water splitting via the copper-chlorine (Cu–Cl) thermochemical cycle is a superb option for producing clean carbon-free fuel. Here, the life cycle assessment (LCA) technique is used to investigate the environmental consequences of an integrated solar Cu–Cl fuel production facility for large-scale hydrogen production. The impact of varying important input parameters including irradiation level, plant lifetime, and solar-to-hydrogen efficiency on various environmental impacts are investigated next. For instance, an improve in the solar-to-hydrogen efficiency from 15% to 30%, results in a reduction in the GWP from 1.25 to 6.27E-01 kg CO2 eq. An uncertainty analysis using Monte Carlo simulation is conducted to deal with the study uncertainties. The results of the LCA show that the potential of acidification and global warming potential (GWP) of the current system are 8.27E-03 kg SO2 eq. and 0.91 kg CO2 eq./kg H2, respectively. According to the sensitivity analysis, the plant lifetime has the highest effect on the total GWP of the plant with a range of 0.63–1.88 kg of CO2 eq./kg H2. Results comparison with past thermochemical-based studies shows that the GWP of the current integrated system is 7% smaller than that of a solar sulfur-iodine thermochemical cycle.  相似文献

Renewable energy-based hydrogen production plants can offer potential solutions to both ensuring sustainability in energy generation systems and designing environmentally friendly systems. In this combined work, a novel solar energy supported plant is proposed that can generate hydrogen, electricity, heating, cooling and hot water. With the suggested integrated plant, the potential of solar energy usage is increased for energy generation systems. The modeled integrated system generally consists of the solar power cycle, solid oxide fuel cell plant, gas turbine process, supercritical power plant, organic Rankine cycle, cooling cycle, hydrogen production and liquefaction plant, and hot water production sub-system. To conduct a comprehensive thermodynamic performance analysis of the suggested plant, the combined plant is modeled according to thermodynamic equilibrium equations. A performance assessment is also conducted to evaluate the impact of several plant indicators on performance characteristics of integrated system and its sub-parts. Hydrogen production rate in the suggested plant according to the performance analysis performed is realized as 0.0642 kg/s. While maximum exergy destruction rate is seen in the solar power plant with 8279 kW, the cooling plant has the lowest exergy destruction rate as 1098 kW. Also, the highest power generation is obtained from gas turbine cycle with 7053 kW. In addition, energetic and exergetic efficiencies of solar power based combined cycle are found as 56.48% and 54.06%, respectively.  相似文献

The increasing use of renewable power sources for distributed generation (DG) has made the application of storage systems a necessity to ensure the continuous supply. This paper analyzes technically and economically an autonomous sodium hypochlorite plant using a renewable energy source and a hydrogen storage system in the Western Region of Paraguay. In this region, there is abundant underground brackish water to produce industrial and energetic hydrogen. In addition, an isolated photovoltaic (PV) system feeds with electricity an electrolyzer, used for sodium hypochlorite production, and the brackish water and freshwater pumping systems. The hydrogen and fuel cell are used as backup system in the operation of the electrolyzer. Preliminary results show that hydrogen stored during the day can increase hypochlorite production by up to 31%. The PV solar system surplus can supply the demand of an off-grid community near the plant. The results show that the plant's return on investment (ROI) is 7 years.  相似文献

A hydrogen generation research program is focused on solar-driven hydrogen production by means of reactive metal water splitting. In order to dissociate water molecules at significantly reduced thermal energies as well as providing a practical means for efficient hydrogen and oxygen separation, an intermediary reactive material is introduced to realize water splitting in the form of an oxidation reaction. Elemental iron is used as the reactive material in the process commonly referred to as the steam-iron process. In order to exploit the unique characteristics of highly reactive materials and ultimately achieve the potential efficiency gains at the solar reactor scale, a monolithic laboratory-scale reactor has been designed to explore the fundamental kinetic rates during the iron oxidation reaction at temperatures ranging from about 650 to 900 K. Results show hydrogen production rates on the order of 1E-8 g/cm2 s. Micro-Raman spectroscopy is used to access information on the exact iron oxide phase produced, and high resolution SEM and electron dispersion spectroscopy (EDS) are used to assess the oxide morphology and further quantify the oxide state, including spatial distributions.  相似文献

The identification of site location is one of the critical tasks in developing or expanding any supply chain system including the construction of renewable power generation plants. The accurate identification of a plant site can considerably reduce unforeseen risks and costs and also raise productivity and efficacy. As such, this study sought to thoroughly evaluate all capital cities of a developing country for the establishment of a hybrid wind/solar power plant to produce hydrogen while considering the most influential and conflicting criteria. For this, 14 criteria including daily solar radiation, wind power density, clearness index, altitude, population, average sunny hours in a year, unemployment rate, average air temperature, average air humidity, average yearly precipitation, natural disasters, the distance between the site and the main road, average dusty days per year, and land price constituted the set of vital factors. To prioritize alternatives, a Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Decision Making approach named FVIKOR (Fuzzy Multi-Criteria Optimization and Compromise Solution) was used. The results indicated that among 31 capital cities, the city of Yazd with a wind power density of 309.5 W/m2 and daily solar radiation of 5.4 kWh/m2 would be the best location for the purpose of this study. To validate the findings, FTOPSIS (Fuzzy Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method was utilized and it also ranked Yazd as the first option. Then, a sensitivity analysis was conducted to discern the behavior of each criterion and their impact on the ranking of the cities. Finally, for hydrogen generation, an autonomous hybrid wind/solar system was techno-economically assessed using HOMER software. According to the analysis outcome, the proposed system showed a payback period of 7 years with levelized cost of 4.75 $/kg for hydrogen.  相似文献

Results related to the development and testing of a unitized regenerative fuel cell (URFC) based on proton-exchange membrane (PEM) technology are reported. A URFC is an electrochemical device which can operate either as an electrolyser for the production of hydrogen and oxygen (water electrolysis mode) or as a H2/O2 fuel cell for the production of electricity and heat (fuel cell mode). The URFC stack described in this paper is made of seven electrochemical cells (256 cм2 active area each). The nominal electric power consumption in electrolysis mode is of 1.5 kW and the nominal electric power production in fuel cell mode is 0.5 kW. A mean cell voltage of 1.74 V has been measured during water electrolysis at 0.5 A cm−2 (85% efficiency based on the thermoneutral voltage of the water splitting reaction) and a mean cell voltage of 0.55 V has been measured during fuel cell operation at the same current density (37% electric efficiency based on the thermoneutral voltage). Preliminary stability tests are satisfactory. Further tests are scheduled to assess the potentialities of the stack on the long term.  相似文献
