The response of honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) drones to queen pheromone(s) (either natural from a mated queen, or synthetic from a lure) was recorded using an X-band, ground-based radar. The distribution of drones (insect targets on the radar screen) changed from a scattered distribution to a line concentration (downwind) when the pheromone was released. Displacement within the line concentration was toward the pheromone. This response was seen as far as 800±15 m downwind from a lure with 10 mg of synthetic 9-oxodec-trans-2-enoic acid (9-ODA) and as far as 420±15 m from a mated queen. These studies demonstrate that queen pheromone can be detected by drones at much greater distances than previously believed and illustrate how X-band radar may be used to establish the distances at which insects of similar or larger size respond to pheromones.Mention of a commercial or proprietary product does not constitute an endorsement by the USDA.  相似文献

A methodology is proposed for modeling the diffusion of fragrances released from a moving source. First, we started with a one‐dimensional model considering molecular diffusion of α‐pinene in air as the only mass transport mechanism. The validation was performed in a diffusion tube, and a system was developed to move the scented source along the axial direction. Results showed that experimental data fitted well with the numerical simulation, suggesting this model as a valid tool to describe the trail of a fragrance released from a moving source for low Re of the order of 10. In the case of a person walking at the speed of 1.34 m/s in a room or corridor inside a building, three‐dimensional models are required and mass transport of the perfume to the surrounding air will be dominated by turbulent diffusion or eddy diffusion Dt which is two orders of magnitude higher than molecular diffusion. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers AIChE J, 64: 2890–2897, 2018  相似文献

The monocyclic 14-membered ring diterpene, cembrene-A, previously identified as a nasutitermitine trail pheromone, was tested for its effectiveness as a trail pheromone inNasutitermes costalis. Artificial trails prepared from serial dilutions of racemic cembrene-A over a concentration range of 10–1–10–6 mg/ml were ineffective in recruiting termites. Serial dilutions of racemic cembrene-A ranging in concentration from 10–1 to 10–5 mg/ml produced an orientation effect. Chiral cembrene-A produced recruitment in soldiers at 10–1 and 10–3 mg/ml and was less ineffective in recruiting workers. Soldiers always showed a lower and more variable recruitment response to chiral cembrene-A than to sternal gland extracts. The behavioral response to both chiral and racemic cembrene-A was different in quantity and quality from that observed for sternal gland extract. Based on the results of these behavioral tests, cembrene-A appears to be a generalized nasute orientation pheromone which may show recruitment properties at unnaturally high concentrations.  相似文献

TheSolenopsis invicta trail pheromone is synthesized by the Dufour's gland and is released through the sting apparatus. The recruitment subcategory of theS. invicta trail pheromone was shown to be composed of a mixture of the orientation pheromone, (Z,E)--farnesene and an unidentified homosesquiterpene consisting of three rings and one double bond (C-1). C-1 is present in worker Dufour's glands at only 75 pg per worker equivalent. This is the first report that demonstrates that different exocrine products from the same gland control different subcategories of behavior related to mass recruitment.  相似文献

介绍了大亚湾和秦山一期核电站蒸汽发生器清洗前、后的目视检查。人工操作的光纤探头具有一定检查能力,能检查管板区域的管问、中间管廊和环形区域。上部管束区的目视检查有二种技术,一种是支撑板检查装置(SID)通过手孔进行安装,用垂直输送系统经流水槽进入管廊区,它的捡查仅限于热侧和冷侧的邻近一、二、三排管束。另一种检查技术为上部管束检查装(UBIB),安装和使用与SID类似。但它是用安装在可伸缩装置上的高分辨率CCD摄像头,与支撑板上下表面保持一定距离,在管子各列之间移动。  相似文献

A natural circulation solar dryer for drying products in the form of powder has been developed. It is of modular design and aperture area of one module is 3.34 m2. A new concept of moveable glazing has been introduced for ease in loading and unloading. Air entering the dryer moves in a zig-zag path as it flows over the product and under each tray before leaving from the top. There is a provision to dry the product under shade. Also, the dryer can be dismantled and stored in a room during off-season. The dryer was tested to dry Di-calcium phosphate (DCP) at Ludhiana (31°N). The average drying efficiency for a batch was found to be 54.0%. The cost of drying DCP using this solar dryer was 0.56 Rupees per kg of dried DCP as compared to 1.94 Rupees per kg of dried DCP for a wood-fueled industrial dryer. In comparison to a solar tunnel dryer for DCP drying, the initial investment per kilogram of the dried DCP, floor area per kilogram of wet DCP, and cost of drying per kilogram of dried DCP for this dryer was reduced by 7.1%, 67.2%, and 16.4% respectively.  相似文献
