We report a novel dispersion tunable device for first-order dispersion compensation. It is based on a fiber Bragg grating written in a tapered fiber with a specific profile. The taper profile allows tuning the dispersion of the grating by stretching the fiber while the linearity of the group delay is preserved. A device with 0.8 nm of useful bandwidth and dispersion value tunable over more than 400 ps/nm is reported. 相似文献

We have developed tunable dispersion equalizers with a chirped fiber grating on the divided thin-film heater. The divided thin-film heater took an important role in the control of dispersion and dispersion slope. We successfully demonstrated the dispersion control from -304 to -196 ps/nm, the dispersion slope control from +100 to -300 ps/nm2, and good performance in 40-Gb/s return-to-zero transmission by using this tunable dispersion equalizer 相似文献

We propose a tunable dispersion and dispersion slope compensator based on induced strain-chirp in a uniform fiber Bragg grating. A specially designed mechanical rotator concatenated with a metal beam with linear thickness variation along its height was used to induce a quadratic strain gradient along the grating. We present a new variable dispersion device based on tuning the chirp of a tapered fiber Bragg grating by means of a magnetic transducer. We propose and demonstrate a novel colorless tunable optical dispersion compensator (TODC) consisting of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer (MZI) connected to an ar- rayed-waveguide grating with a thermooptic lens. The MZI approximately doubles the magnitude bandwidth at large dispersion settings. We demonstrate compensation of a 43-Gb/s nonreturn-to-zero signal dispersed over a range of -844 to + 1700 ps/nm. To our knowledge, +1700 ps/nm is the largest demonstrated dispersion compensation amount of a 40-Gb/s signal with a single TODC. 相似文献

The generation of pulses shorter than 6 ps, tunable from 1.26 to 1.32 μm, is discussed. The source of these pulses consists of a mode-locked external-cavity 12.3-μm InGaAsP diode laser with grating feedback combined with a compressor which is a grating pair containing an internal telescope. Using uniform phase mask and conventional fabrication technology with submicrometer rather than nanometer precision, a pure third-order dispersion-compensating fiber Bragg grating (DCFBG) and a tunable slope DCFBG are demonstrated with high performance based on the combined reconstruction equivalent-chirp method and an error correction technique. The former DCFBG has a dispersion varying from /spl sim/1000 to /spl sim/-1000 ps/nm in the 100-GHz passband and group delay ripple is less than /spl plusmn/5 ps. The latter has a dispersion slope varying from -150 to 150 ps/nm/sup 2/ within the 3-nm passband, and its group delay ripple is less than /spl plusmn/10 ps. 相似文献
