A category of Distributed Real-Time Systems (DRTS) that has multiprocessor pipeline architecture is increasingly used. The
key challenge of such systems is to guarantee the end-to-end deadlines of aperiodic tasks. This paper proposes an end-to-end
deadline control model, called Linear Quadratic Stochastic Optimal Control Model (LQ-SOCM), which features a distributed feedback
control that dynamically enforces the desired performance. The control system considers the aperiodic task arrivals and execution
times’ variation as the two external factors of the system unpredictability. LQ-SOCM uses discrete time state space equation
to describe the real-time computing system. Then, in the actuator design, a continuous manner is adopted to deal with discrete
QoS (Quality of Service) adaptation. Finally, experiments demonstrate that the system is globally stable and can statistically
provide the end-to-end deadline guarantee for aperiodic tasks. At the same time, LQ-SOCM is capable of effectively improving
the system throughput.

In this paper we discuss an economic model for resource sharing in large-scale distributed systems. The model captures traditional concepts such as consumer satisfaction and provider revenues and enables us to analyze the effect of different pricing strategies upon measures of performance important for the consumers and the providers. We show that given a particular set of model parameters the satisfaction reaches an optimum; this value represents the perfect balance between the utility and the price paid for resources. Our results confirm that brokers play a very important role and can influence positively the market. We also show that consumer satisfaction does not track the consumer utility; these two important performance measures for consumers behave differently under different pricing strategies. Pricing strategies also affect the revenues obtained by providers, as well as, the ability to satisfy a larger population of users. 相似文献

This paper presents a quantitative framework for early prediction of resource usage and load in distributed real-time systems
(DRTS). The prediction is based on an analysis of UML 2.0 sequence diagrams, augmented with timing information, to extract
timed-control flow information. It is aimed at improving the early predictability of a DRTS by offering a systematic approach
to predict, at the design phase, system behavior in each time instant during its execution. Since behavioral models such as
sequence diagrams are available in early design phases of the software life cycle, the framework enables resource analysis
at a stage when design decisions are still easy to change. Though we provide a general framework, we use network traffic as
an example resource type to illustrate how the approach is applied. We also indicate how usage and load analysis of other
types of resources (e.g., CPU and memory) can be performed in a similar fashion. A case study illustrates the feasibility
of the approach.

The increasing trend toward complex software systems has highlighted the need to incorporate quality requirements earlier in the development cycle. We propose a new methodology for monitoring quality in the earliest phases of real-time reactive system (RTRS) development. The targeted quality characteristics are functional complexity, performance, reliability, architectural complexity, maintainability, and test coverage. All these characteristics should be continuously monitored throughout the RTRS development cycle, to provide decision support and detect the first signs of low or decreasing quality as the system design evolves. The ultimate goal of this methodology is to assist developers in dealing with complex user requirements and ensure that the formal development process yields a high-quality application. Each aspect of quality monitoring is formalized mathematically and illustrated using a train-gate-controller case study. 相似文献

Numerous component models have been proposed in the literature, a testimony of a subject domain rich with technical and scientific challenges, and considerable potential. Unfortunately however, the reported level of adoption has been comparatively low. Where successes were had, they were largely facilitated by the manifest endorsement, where not the mandate, by relevant stakeholders, either internal to the industrial adopter or with authority over the application domain. The work presented in this paper stems from a comprehensive initiative taken by the European Space Agency (ESA) and its industrial suppliers. This initiative also enjoyed significant synergy with interests shown for similar goals by the telecommunications and railways domain, thanks to the interaction between two parallel project frameworks. The ESA effort aimed at favouring the adoption of a software reference architecture across its software supply chain. The center of that strategy revolves around a component model and the software development process that builds on it. This paper presents the rationale, the design and implementation choices made in their conception, as well as the feedback obtained from a number of industrial case studies that assessed them. 相似文献

A novel real-time scheduler was developed to implement an interactive user interface for an existing state-of-the-art, hand-held
blood analyzer. A software-timer-based scheduler was designed and implemented and guaranteed schedulability analysis performed
to ensure that all hard execution deadlines could be met at run time. An execution bandwidth preservation mechanism that increases
the robustness and predictability of the scheduler is presented. The paper is a case study that describes the design and development

Scalability, flexibility, quality of service provisioning, efficiency and robustness are the desired characteristics of most computing systems. Although the emerging Grid computing paradigm is scalable and flexible, achieving both efficiency and quality of service provisioning in Grids is a challenging task but is necessary for the wide adoption of Grids. Grid middleware should also be robust to uncertainties such as those in user-estimated runtimes of Grid applications.
