A dielectric waveguide structure, hollow image guide, is described. This structure has several interesting characteristics useful for millimeter-wave applications. Dispersion characteristics and field distributions are theoretically and experimentally studied. The structure can also be considered as two parallel image guides coupled strongly by a dielectric overlay.
