This paper reports research conducted in collaboration with the Hunt Museum, Limerick, Ireland, which examined how children's interaction in museums could be augmented through co-operative design. The paper describes the participatory design process that was undertaken over a two-year period, involving key informants and stakeholders, including teachers, docents (specialist museum guides) and curators. The designers also explored the potential of ubiquitous computing to enhance children's interpretive experience in museums, and this is also described. The research reported in this paper was supported within the EU disappearing computer (DC) initiative, specifically the SHAPE project. The goal of SHAPE, Situating Hybrid Assemblies in Public Environments, was to explore how emerging, novel computer technologies could be deployed in public spaces to enhance interaction and learning. The project culminated in the deployment of an innovative, large-scale computer-augmented exhibition, Re-Tracing the Past, in the Hunt Museum. This novel exhibition was open to the public from 9 to 19 June 2003. This paper documents the design process from initial scenario elaboration through to final deployment of novel technology in the museum. Evaluation data are also discussed, and the paper concludes with some insights for participatory design of technology to enhance children's interaction in museums. Furthermore, the review of evaluation data illustrates how the design themes that informed the extensive design process were successfully embodied in the final exhibition in the museum.  相似文献

From earliest times, humans have developed strategies for increasing their ability to remember and commemorate significant events in the history of their communities. Epics have been created, memorized, and passed on through generations even before the development of written records. Monuments have also been built to commemorate important events. Stratagems for helping people to retain information, mnemonics, have allowed us to develop what has been termed memoria technica—‘artificial’ memories. In this essay, while recognizing that new technologies support people and organizations in their remembering processes, I wish to stress that other complementary human activity that constitutes the duality of memory, namely forgetting. This is a topic that has been relatively neglected or treated in a cursory fashion in much academic discourse to date. I note some examples of the scattered but intriguing work on the subject, from very different disciplinary perspectives, before turning attention to the potential relevance of judicious forgetting in the context of new technologies and visions of the future. Examining the role of forgetting opens up some interesting possibilities. We should re-frame our discourse and expand the design space concerning ubiquitous computational technologies in our everyday life to incorporate aspects of this forgetting dimension.  相似文献

A finite element model of an unheated museum store has been developed for simulating the influence of the building envelope, the wall thickness and the thermal interaction with the surrounding ground on indoor temperature of the store.The question of whether to build the store with high thermal mass or with well-insulated walls with no thermal mass is addressed. The influence from excess humidity entering the store through cracks in the building envelope is also discussed. Finally, ways to stabilize the store temperature by improved design, such as additional insulation of the foundation, will be analysed.The simulations are compared with measurements in a museum store in Ribe, Denmark.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Genuine engagement about how best to achieve liveable urban futures should be part of planning’s raison-d’etre but it has a chequered history of delivery. Exhibitions harnessing the communicative power of mixed media and linked to a progressive and responsive programme of focused discussion and debate remain relevant to community consultation and civic engagement. Terry Farrell’s concept of the ‘urban room’ to involve citizens in engaging with the past, present, and future of towns and cities offers a contemporary refreshment of the approach propounded by Patrick Geddes from the early 1900s. The possibilities of creating novel and compelling opportunities for civic discourse in this guise are explored in this review article though the Newcastle City Futures pop-up exhibition and events held in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK in 2014. This event carries lessons for imagining how planners, developers, governments, and community groups may come together to critically and creatively forge future propositions for the urban condition.  相似文献

空间是现代建筑学的核心问题和关键要素,空间设计训练则是当前国内大多数建筑院校低年级建筑设计教学的重点和难点,在整个建筑教学体系中起重要作用。文章关注建筑学主干课程体系中的空间设计教学,以山东建筑大学建筑学专业二年级建筑设计课程——方体限定与展览空间设计为例,阐述相关教学探索,总结经验与不足。教学实践利用空间设计作为串联系列课程设计的主线,引入分析思考与空间操作的方法,使空间概念理解和设计思辨过程变为可教、可控,改善了传统教学模式的不足,使课程设计既符合当前建筑教育的国际趋势,也具有自身特色。  相似文献

国家博物馆老馆建成于1959年8月,占地面积5.05万m2,建筑面积6.5万m2,为建国初期首都十大建筑之一。由于受建设时期历史条件的限制,在建筑规模、材料、质量、设施等方面都不能满足现在国家博物馆发展的需要和安全使用要求。由《中国国家博物馆检验报告》可知:老馆结构梁、板开裂较多,裂缝最大宽度梁为1.5mm、板为2.3mm,并有少数地方出现露筋现象。抗震验算表明:原结构在8度多遇地震作用下不能满足国家现行规范要求,部分区段的结构安全可靠度已经较低,必须采取必要的加固措施。老馆加固改造工程的结构设计,运用结构综合抗震能力分析方法和多种最新的加固手段,在保持原有建筑风貌的前提下,实现了提高抗震能力和改善使用功能的协调,取得了重大工程加固改造的良好经验。  相似文献

Plastic design of eccentrically braced frames, I: Moment-shear interaction   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
With reference to eccentrically braced frames (EBFs), the issues regarding moment-shear interaction in plastic design are examined. In particular, a procedure for computing the ultimate shear forces and end moments of intermediate links for a given collapse mechanism is presented. The requirements to be fulfilled are the yielding condition, the flow rule, the kinematic compatibility condition depending on the examined collapse mechanism and, finally, the minimisation of the internal work according to the kinematic theorem of plastic collapse.Moreover, through the definition of an equivalent moment, the link is modelled as an element with plastic hinges in simple bending. This is obtained by imposing the equivalence between the internal work developed by the actual link and the internal work corresponding to the simplified theoretical model. Therefore, moment-shear interaction in plastic design can be accounted for by means of formulations which are formally coincident with those commonly used for plastic hinges in simple bending.Finally, the kinematic theorem of plastic collapse is used to define the design requirements to be fulfilled to prevent yielding of the beam part outside of the link and yielding of the bracing element. Planning the design of the emergency department (ED) is a complex process. Hospital leaders and architects must consider many complex and interdependent factors, including evolving market demands, patient volume, care models, operational processes, staffing, and medical equipment. The application of digital tools, such as discrete event simulation (DES) and space syntax analysis (SSA), allows hospital administrators and designers to quantitatively and objectively optimize their facilities.This paper presents a case study that utilized both DES and SSA to optimize the care process and to design the space in an ED environment. DES was applied in three phases: master planning, process improvement in the existing ED, and designing the new ED. SSA was used to compare the new design with the existing layout to evaluate the effectiveness of the new design in supporting visual surveillance and care coordination.This case study demonstrates that DES and SSA are effective tools for facilitating decision-making related to design, reducing capital and operational costs, and improving organizational performance. DES focuses on operational processes and care flow. SSA complements DES with its strength in linking space to human behavior. Combining both tools can lead to high-performance ED design and can extend to broad applications in health care.  相似文献

Critics have pointed at new technologies as culprits in the decline of civic life, neighboring and social capital construction in Western societies. When applied to community design and planning processes, technologies can empower residents to actively engage in decision-making, foster connections across social groups, with positive consequences on life and socialization in public spaces. What kind of participation do technologies foster? And is it the kind that bridges social and ideological divides? The 2012 community design process for Hawthorne Park in Medford, Oregon illustrates many of the challenges and opportunities connected to the use of new technologies in design. In the process, technologies were instrumental in enlisting a larger-than-usual number of residents to participate in the design of the park. Blogs and online questionnaires were successful in gathering people's thoughts on the design choices being made, but also favored a limited, intermittent form of engagement. The results are synthesized in principles for the successful integration of web-based technologies in future community design efforts: adaptability, full participation, nuanced participation and the need for links to the physical realm.  相似文献

在工程教育认证背景下,工程专业的专业课程教学也应及时转变观念,改革教学模式,开展符合工程教育认证理念的课程建设工作。以城市地下空间规划与设计课程为例,介绍了城市地下空间工程专业课程教学设计的实施方法。首先对专业人才培养的顶层设计进行了分析,探讨了该课程的定位和任务;之后根据行业发展的需求,构建了相应的课程知识体系;最后采用面向产出的模式,对课程进行了教学设计。论文所做的探索和实践工作,为工科人才培养工作中的专业课程建设和教学工作开展提供了一定的参考和借鉴。  相似文献
