Distributed nonlinear control algorithms for network consensus   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
In this paper, we develop a thermodynamic framework for addressing consensus problems for nonlinear multiagent dynamical systems with fixed and switching topologies. Specifically, we present distributed nonlinear static and dynamic controller architectures for multiagent coordination. The proposed controller architectures are predicated on system thermodynamic notions resulting in controller architectures involving the exchange of information between agents that guarantee that the closed-loop dynamical network is consistent with basic thermodynamic principles.  相似文献

Environment as a first class abstraction in multiagent systems   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1
The current practice in multiagent systems typically associates the environment with resources that are external to agents and their communication infrastructure. Advanced uses of the environment include infrastructures for indirect coordination, such as digital pheromones, or support for governed interaction in electronic institutions. Yet, in general, the notion of environment is not well defined. Functionalities of the environment are often dealt with implicitly or in an ad hoc manner. This is not only poor engineering practice, it also hinders engineers to exploit the full potential of the environment in multiagent systems. In this paper, we put forward the environment as an explicit part of multiagent systems. We give a definition stating that the environment in a multiagent system is a first-class abstraction with dual roles: (1) the environment provides the surrounding conditions for agents to exist, which implies that the environment is an essential part of every multiagent system, and (2) the environment provides an exploitable design abstraction for building multiagent system applications. We discuss the responsibilities of such an environment in multiagent systems and we present a reference model for the environment that can serve as a basis for environment engineering. To illustrate the power of the environment as a design abstraction, we show how the environment is successfully exploited in a real world application. Considering the environment as a first-class abstraction in multiagent systems opens up new horizons for research and development in multiagent systems.  相似文献

Organizational models have been recently used in agent theory for modeling coordination in open systems and to ensure social order in multi-agent system applications. In this paper, we propose the employment of Organization Theory for the analysis and design of multiagent systems. Thus, we first discuss the current state of the art of organization-oriented multiagent system methods, placing emphasis on their organizational features. We also review human organizational structures, and we propose several guidelines for implementing agent organizations by means of Organization Theory. Our final aim is to employ well-known human organizational structures to develop multiagent systems.  相似文献

Computational-mechanism design has an important role to play in developing complex distributed systems comprising multiple interacting agents. Game theory has developed powerful tools for analyzing, predicting, and controlling the behavior of self-interested agents and decision making in systems with multiple autonomous actors. These tools, when tailored to computational settings, provide a foundation for building multiagent software systems. This tailoring gives rise to the field of computational-mechanism design, which applies economic principles to computer systems design.  相似文献

Agent's flexibility and autonomy, as well as their capacity to coordinate and cooperate, are some of the features which make multiagent systems useful to work in dynamic and distributed environments. These key features are directly related to the way in which agents communicate and perceive each other, as well as their environment and surrounding conditions. Traditionally, this has been accomplished by means of message exchange or by using blackboard systems. These traditional methods have the advantages of being easy to implement and well supported by multiagent platforms; however, their main disadvantage is that the amount of social knowledge in the system directly depends on every agent actively informing of what it is doing, thinking, perceiving, etc. There are domains, for example those where social knowledge depends on highly distributed pieces of data provided by many different agents, in which such traditional methods can produce a great deal of overhead, hence reducing the scalability, efficiency and flexibility of the multiagent system. This work proposes the use of event tracing in multiagent systems, as an indirect interaction and coordination mechanism to improve the amount and quality of the information that agents can perceive from both their physical and social environment, in order to fulfill their goals more efficiently. In order to do so, this work presents an abstract model of a tracing system and an architectural design of such model, which can be incorporated to a typical multiagent platform.  相似文献

This paper suggests an evolutionary approach to design coordination strategies for multiagent systems. Emphasis is given to auction protocols since they are of utmost importance in many real world applications such as power markets. Power markets are one of the most relevant instances of multiagent systems and finding a profitable bidding strategy is a key issue to preserve system functioning and improve social welfare. Bidding strategies are modeled as fuzzy rule-based systems due to their modeling power, transparency, and ability to naturally handle imprecision in input data, an essential ingredient to a multiagent system act efficiently in practice. Specific genetic operators are suggested in this paper. Evolution of bidding strategies uncovers unknown and unexpected agent behaviors and allows a richer analysis of auction mechanisms and their role as a coordination protocol. Simulation experiments with a typical power market using actual thermal plants data show that the evolutionary, genetic-based design approach evolves strategies that enhance agents profitability when compared with the marginal cost-based strategies commonly adopted  相似文献

The authors argued that AI systems must be able to manipulate their own internal representations automatically to deal with an infinitely complex and ever-changing world and to scale up to rich, complex applications. Such manipulation must go beyond changing beliefs and learning new concepts in terms of old concepts; it must be able to change ontology's underlying syntax and semantics. Initial progress has been made, but further progress is urgently needed owing to the demands of autonomous multiagent systems. Understanding and implementing this ability must be a major focus of AI for the next 50 years.  相似文献

Today's service-oriented systems realize many ideas from the research conducted a decade or so ago in multiagent systems. Because these two fields are so deeply connected, further advances in multiagent systems could feed into tomorrow's successful service-oriented computing approaches. This article describes a 15-year roadmap for service-oriented multiagent system research.  相似文献

Major trends in the development of modern information technologies are to a large extend determined by important practical problems that arise in economics, ecology, safety of society and individuals, and in other fields. Even though these problems seem to be quite different and the requirements for their software implementation are also different, they have many common features, which imply the most stringent requirements for modern information technologies. These features were analyzed in the first part of the present paper. That analysis showed that the new requirements for the model and software implementation of such problems are best met by the multiagent self-organizing system model. In this paper, we consider examples of using this model in various applications and describe their architectures and software implementation; in particular, multiagent self-organization models as applied for flood forecasting and planning and operational enterprise management are described. New capabilities of multiagent self-organizing systems are demonstrated using a self-learning system for detecting intrusions into computer networks as an example. Here, the problem of self-configuration of an overlay network is actually solved. The capabilities of a multiagent self-organizing system in large-scale control in real time are demonstrated using adaptive traffic control in large cities. For the software implementation of multiagent self-organizing systems, special development tools that are different from the existing ones are needed because the conventional top-down development paradigm is inappropriate for self-organizing architectures. The cause is that the global behavior of a multiagent self-organizing system emerges due to local interactions; therefore, it cannot be predicted in advance. For that reason, the bottom-up development model is more appropriate for such systems. In this paper, we give a brief review of the models and approaches proposed for this purpose. One of the promising approaches based on the use of the so-called self-organization design patterns is described in more detail. Results of using the multiagent self-organization model are discussed and prospects of its practical application are estimated.  相似文献

This paper studies the cooperative control problem for a class of multiagent dynamical systems with partially unknown nonlinear system dynamics. In particular, the control objective is to solve the state consensus problem for multiagent systems based on the minimisation of certain cost functions for individual agents. Under the assumption that there exist admissible cooperative controls for such class of multiagent systems, the formulated problem is solved through finding the optimal cooperative control using the approximate dynamic programming and reinforcement learning approach. With the aid of neural network parameterisation and online adaptive learning, our method renders a practically implementable approximately adaptive neural cooperative control for multiagent systems. Specifically, based on the Bellman's principle of optimality, the Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) equation for multiagent systems is first derived. We then propose an approximately adaptive policy iteration algorithm for multiagent cooperative control based on neural network approximation of the value functions. The convergence of the proposed algorithm is rigorously proved using the contraction mapping method. The simulation results are included to validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.  相似文献

Stock trading is one of the key items in an economy and estimating its behavior and taking the best decision in it are among the most challenging issues. Solutions based on intelligent agent systems are proposed to cope with those challenges. Agents in a multiagent system (MAS) can share a common goal or they can pursue their own interests. That nature of MASs exactly fits the requirements of a free market economy. Although existing studies include noteworthy proposals on agent‐based market simulation and researchers discuss theoretical design issues of agent‐based stock exchange systems, unfortunately only a very few of the studies consider exact development and implementation of multiagent stock trading systems within the software engineering perspective and guides to the software engineers for constructing such software systems starting from scratch. To fill this gap, in this paper, we discuss the development of a multiagent‐based stock trading system by taking into consideration software design according to a well‐defined agent oriented software engineering methodology and implementation with a widely‐used MAS software development framework. Each participant in the system is first designed as belief–desire–intention agents with their facts, goals, and plans, and then belief–desire–intention reasoning and behavioral structure of the designed agents are implemented. Lessons learned during design and development within the software engineering perspective and evaluation of the implemented multiagent stock exchange system are also reported. In order for multiagent systems to be included in real domains (media and Internet, logistics, e-commerce, and health care), infrastructures and tools for multiagent systems should provide efficiency, scalability, security, management, monitoring, and other features related to building real applications. Thus, infrastructures and tools that support multiagent systems are needed, especially those that promote the adoption of agent-based systems by designers and programmers in both academia and industry. This special issue is a selection of contributions whose preliminary versions were presented at the ITMAS 2010 workshop, which was held in conjunction with the International Conference on Autonomous Agents and Multi-agent Systems.  相似文献

An ontology for commitments in multiagent systems:   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Social commitments have long been recognized as an important concept for multiagent systems. We propose a rich formulation of social commitments that motivates an architecture for multiagent systems, which we dub spheres of commitment. We identify the key operations on commitments and multiagent systems. We distinguish between explicit and implicit commitments. Multiagent systems, viewed as spheres of commitment (SoComs), provide the context for the different operations on commitments. Armed with the above ideas, we can capture normative concepts such as obligations, taboos, conventions, and pledges as different kinds of commitments. In this manner, we synthesize ideas from multiagent systems, particularly the idea of social context, with ideas from ethics and legal reasoning, specifically that of directed obligations in the Hohfeldian tradition.  相似文献

In this article, we have developed an open system architecture and Web-based shape-modeling applications using HyperFun, a high-level programming language for specifying implicit surfaces and FRep objects. We based our system on empirical modeling principles to allow for implementation of realistic behavior of shape models situated in multiagent environments, providing open-ended exploration and experimentation with shared models. Shape modeling systems based on HyperFun modeling language treat Internet-based shape modeling as a resource and let users collaborate in shape development.  相似文献

Context-aware systems are able to capture information from the context in which they are executed, assign a meaning to the gathered information, and change their behavior accordingly. As a result, the systems can offer services to users according to their individual situation within the context. This article analyzes the important aspects of context-aware computing such as capturing information for context attributes and determining the manner of interacting with users in the environment. Used in conjunction with mobile devices, context-aware systems are specifically used to improve the usability of applications and services. This article proposes the home care context-aware computing (HoCCAC) multiagent system that identifies and maintains a permanent fix on the location of patients in their home, and manages the infrastructure of services within their environment securely and reliably by processing and reasoning the data received. Based on the multiagent system, a prototype was developed to monitor patients in their home. The HoCCAC multiagent system uses a critical path method-based planning model that, in the present study, prepares the most optimal task-planning schedule for the patients in their home, is capable of reacting automatically when faced with dangerous or emergency situations, replanning any plans in progress and sending alert messages to the system. The results obtained with this prototype are presented in this article.  相似文献

In this paper, we propose a novel metric called MetrIntPair (Metric for Pairwise Intelligence Comparison of Agent‐Based Systems) for comparison of two cooperative multiagent systems problem‐solving intelligence. MetrIntPair is able to make an accurate comparison by taking into consideration the variability in intelligence in problem‐solving. The metric could treat the outlier intelligence indicators, intelligence measures that are statistically different from those others. For evaluation of the proposed metric, we realized a case study for two cooperative multiagent systems applied for solving a class of NP‐hard problems. The results of the case study proved that the small difference in the measured intelligence of the multiagent systems is the consequence of the variability. There is no statistical difference between the intelligence quotients/level of the multiagent systems. Both multiagent systems should be classified in the same intelligence class.  相似文献
