Poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) and poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) homopolymers and their blended samples with different compositions were prepared using cast technique and subjected to X‐ray diffraction (XRD) measurements, infrared (IR) spectroscopy, ultraviolet/visible spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). XRD patterns of homopolymers and their blended samples indicated that blending amorphous materials, such as PVP, with semicrystalline polymer, such as PVA, gives rise to an amorphous structure with two halo peaks at positions identical to those found in pure PVP. Identification of structure and assignments of the most evident IR ‐ absorption bands of PVP and PVA as well as their blends in the range 400–2000 cm?1 were studied. UV–vis spectra were used to study absorption spectra and estimate the values of absorption edge, Eg, and band tail, Ee, for all samples. Making use of Coats‐Redfern relation, thermogravimetric (TG) data allowed the calculation of the values of some thermodynamic parameters, such as activation energy E, entropy ΔS#, enthalpy ΔH, and free energy of activation ΔG# for different decomposition steps in the samples under investigation. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Aqueous solutions of poly(vinyl alcohol) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) are blended and films are produced by casting method with the further intention of being used as bio‐materials with latent medical application. Glutaraldehyde, 4,4′‐diazido‐2,2′‐stilbenedisulfonic acid disodium salt tetra‐hydrate are used as crosslinker agents, whereas lactic acid is the plasticizer in the blend. The obtained films are characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), mechanical properties, swelling and solubility behavior. DSC measurements show that the blends exhibit a single glass transition temperature indicating that they are miscible, even in the presence of the plasticizer and crosslinker agents. By the combination of all mentioned additives, a relevant enhancement of the swelling is observed, accompanied by a stabilization of the solubility during the tested time. Finally, mechanical properties show an appropriate performance in the studied parameters. As a consequence, the obtained films could be suitable for use as medium or long‐term implants. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. Sci., 2013  相似文献

Hydrogels in the form of rods with varying crosslink densities and three‐dimensional network structures were prepared from Poly(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) (PVP)/water and PVP/water/persulfate systems by irradiation with γ rays at ambient temperature. Average molecular weights between crosslinks, percent swelling, swelling equilibrium values, diffusion/swelling characteristics (i.e., the structure of network constant, the type of diffusion, the initial swelling rate, swelling rate constant), and equilibrium water content were evaluated for both hydrogel systems. Water diffusion to the hydrogel is a non‐Fickian type diffusion and diffusion coefficients vary from 6.56 × 10−7 to 2.51 × 10−7cm2min−1 for PVP and 6.09 × 10−7 to 2.14 × 10−7 cm2min−1 for PVP/persulfate hydrogel systems. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. A highly hydrophilic hollow fiber poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) membrane [PVDF‐cl‐poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) membrane] was prepared by a cross‐linking reaction with the hydrophilic PVP, which was immobilized firmly on the outer surface and cross‐section of the PVDF hollow fiber membrane via a simple immersion process. The cross‐linking between PVDF and PVP was firstly verified via nuclear magnetic resonance measurement on PVP solution after cross‐linking. The hydrophilic stability of the modified PVDF membrane was evaluated by measuring the pure water flux after different times of immersion and drying. The anti‐fouling properties were estimated by cyclic filtration of protein solution. When the cross‐linking time was as long as 6 hr and the PVP content reached 5 wt %, the pure water flux (Jv) was constant as ~ 600 L m?2 hr?1. The hydrophilicity of the PVDF‐cl‐PVP membrane was significantly enhanced and exhibited a good stability. The PVDF‐cl‐PVP membrane showed an excellent anti‐protein‐fouling performance during the cyclic filtration of bovine serum albumin solution. Therefore, a highly hydrophilic and anti‐protein‐fouling PVDF hollow fiber membrane with a long‐term stability can be prepared by a simple and economical cross‐linking process with PVP. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Various bionanocomposites were prepared by dispersing fumed silica (SiO2) nanoparticles in biocompatible polymers like poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), chitosan (Chi), or poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA). For the bionanocomposites preparation, a solvent evaporation method was followed. SEM micrographs verified fine dispersion of silica nanoparticles in all used polymer matrices of composites with low silica content. Sufficient interactions between the functional groups of the polymers and the surface hydroxyl groups of SiO2 were revealed by FTIR measurements. These interactions favored fine dispersion of silica. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength and Young's modulus substantially increased with increasing the silica content in the bionanocomposites. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) showed that the polymer matrices were stabilized against thermal decomposition with the addition of fumed silica due to shielding effect, because for all bionanocomposites the temperature, corresponding to the maximum decomposition rate, progressively shifted to higher values with increasing the silica content. Finally, dynamic thermomechanical analysis (DMA) tests showed that for Chi/SiO2 and PVA/SiO2 nanocomposites the temperature of β‐relaxation observed in tanδ curves, corresponding to the glass transition temperature Tg, shifted to higher values with increasing the SiO2 content. This fact indicates that because of the reported interactions, a nanoparticle/matrix interphase was formed in the surroundings of the filler, where the macromolecules showed limited segmental mobility. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) were chosen to prepare polymer complex and blends. The complex was prepared from ethanol solution and the blends were prepared from 1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone solution. DSC results show that the Tgs of the PAA/PVP blends lie between those of the two constituent polymers, whereas Tg of the PAA/PVP complex is higher than both blends and the two constituent polymers. TGA results show that degradation temperature, Td, of PAA increases upon adding PVP in the blend, but thermal stability of the complex is higher than that of the blends as reflected by the higher Td. Both FTIR and high-resolution solid state NMR show strong hydrogen bonding between PAA and PVP by showing significant chemical shift. The T(H) measurement shows that the homogeneity scale for the blend is at ∼20 Å and that for the complex is ∼15 Å.  相似文献

Isotactic, atactic, and syndiotactic poly(methyl methacrylates) (PMMA) (designated iPMMA, aPMMA, and sPMMA) with approximately the same molecular weight were mixed separately with poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) primarily in chloroform to make three polymer blend systems. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to study the miscibility of these blends. The results showed that the tacticity of PMMA has a definite impact on its miscibility with PVP. The aPMMA/PVP and sPMMA/PVP blends were found to be miscible because all the prepared films showed composition-dependent glass-transition temperatures (Tg). The glass-transition temperatures of the aPMMA/PVP blends are equal to or lower than weight average and can be qualitatively described by the Gordon–Taylor equation. The glass-transition temperatures of the other miscible blends (i.e., sPMMA/PVP blends) are mostly higher than weight average and can be approximately fitted by the simplified Kwei equation. The iPMMA/PVP blends were found to be immiscible or partially miscible based on the observation of two glass-transition temperatures. The immiscibility is probably attributable to a stronger interaction among isotactic MMA segments because its ordination and molecular packing contribute to form a rigid domain. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Biocompatible hydroxyapatite (HA)/poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) composites and their transparent films were prepared by the coprecipitation and solvent casting method. The formation of HA in PVA composite powder was confirmed by the characteristic phosphate bands at 1100–1032 and 565 cm?1 at FT‐IR spectra, and the weight ratio of HA to PVA was 50/50 examined by TGA. The crystal melting temperature of HA/PVA decreased compared with that of pure PVA. HA/PVA (50/50) composite powder and pure PVA were dissolved in dimethyl sulfoxide to obtain a film with HA/PVA weight ratio of 10/90. To improve HA particles' dispersity, which is one of the major factors affecting the mechanical properties of composite materials, various contents of citric acid were used for the preparation of HA/PVA films. At a citric acid concentration of 5 wt %, HA/PVA film with good dispersity of HA particles was obtained. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2007  相似文献

Ternary blends composed of matrix polymer poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) with different proportions of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) blends were prepared by melt mixing. The miscibility, crystallization behavior, mechanical properties and hydrophilicity of the ternary blends have been investigated. The high compatibility of PVDF/PMMA/PVP ternary blends is induced by strong interactions between the carbonyl groups of the PMMA/PVP blend and the CF2 or CH2 group of PVDF. According to the Fourier transform infrared and wide‐angle X‐ray difffraction analyses, the introduction of PMMA does not change the crystalline state (i.e. α phase) of PVDF. By contrast, the addition of PVP in the blends favors the transformation of the crystalline state of PVDF from non‐polar α to polar β phase. Moreover, the crystallinity of the PVDF/PMMA/PVP ternary blends also decreases compared with neat PVDF. Through mechanical analysis, the elongation at break of the blends significantly increases to more than six times that of neat PVDF. This confirms that the addition of the PMMA/PVP blend enhances the toughness of PVDF. Besides, the hydrophilicity of PVDF is remarkably improved by blending with PMMA/PVP; in particular when the content of PVP reaches 30 wt%, the water contact angle displays its lowest value which decreased from 91.4° to 51.0°. Kinetics of radiation grafting of N‐vinyl pyrrolidone (NVP) onto poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fabric revealed the existence of four different processes. These are as follows: the grafting, the homopolymerization, the degradation, and the diffusion. The grafting process was followed by the increase in weight with the increase in irradiation time (t), while the homopolymerization and the degradation processes were evaluated from changes in the square root of the specific viscosity of the irradiated monomer solution (√ηsp) with the increase in t. All processes were carried out at different NVP concentrations, different irradiation temperatures (T), and a dose rate 1.31 Gy s?1. All processes followed first‐order kinetics except the degradation process that followed a 0.6‐order. The rate (R) and rate constant (k) of grafting and diffusion processes were found to increase with the increase in T, while the homopolymerization and degradation processes showed negative temperature dependence. The sum of R of the four processes was proportional to the initial NVP concentration, while k of the four processes was independent of T and has a value of 0.674 min?1. The respective apparent activation energies of 24.0, 6.24, 6.84, and 2.5 kJ mol?1 were calculated for the four processes. The NVP molecules participated in each process and their energies were evaluated. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 101: 3009–3022, 2006  相似文献

The rheological properties of adhesive miscible blends of high‐molecular‐weight poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) with short‐chain poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) under oscillatory and steady‐state shear flow have been examined with dynamic mechanical and squeezing‐flow analysis. The latter allows the rheological characterization of adhesive blends under conditions modeling adhesive‐bond formation as a fixed compressive force is applied to an adhesive film. The most adhesive PVP blend with 36 wt % PEG has been established to flow like a viscoplastic (yield stress) liquid with a power‐law index of about 0.12. The study of the apparent yield stress as a function of the PVP–PEG composition, content of sorbed water, molecular weight of PVP, and temperature shows that the occurrence of a yield stress in the blends results most likely from a noncovalent crosslinking of PVP macromolecules through short PEG chains by means of hydrogen bonding of both terminal OH groups of PEG to the complementary functional groups in PVP monomer units. A molecular mechanism of PVP–PEG interaction was established earlier by direct and independent methods. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 100: 522–537, 2006  相似文献

Fibrous membranes of cellulose acetate (CA), poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) and composite membranes of these polymers, were obtained by the electrospinning method. Using systematic method, the optimal conditions for preparation of fibrous membranes were found. Both CA and PVP a concentration of 8% weight was found. The CA was dissolved in a acetone:water solution, volume ratio 80 : 20 and the PVP is dissolved in ethanol:water solution, ratio volume 85 : 15. The flow rate for both polymers was 1.5 mL h?1. The same applied voltage value and the distance between the needle and collection plate were for polymer both, 15 kV and 15 cm respectively. The morphology of fibrous membranes and composite membranes were evaluated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The CA fibers showed ribon morphology, while the PVP fibers were cilindric, in both cases with diameters in the micrometer range. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that CA had a complete degradation to 445°C, while the fibrous membranes PVP required a value of temperature for degradation of up to 571°C. Fibrous composite membrane PVP/CA/PVP shows a higher value of strain at break (%), and a lower value of tensile strength (MPa) compared to CA/PVP/CA. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The honeymoon‐type adhesive for wood products based on acetoacetylated poly(vinyl alcohol) (AAPVA) was investigated focusing on the effect of acetoacetylation on performance, and that of amino compounds as a crosslinking agent. AAPVAs with different degrees of acetoacetylation were synthesized by the addition reaction of diketene in dimethylsulfoxide. Adhesive tests were carried out using aqueous solutions of AAPVA and six kinds of amino compounds, spread separately on test pieces of red meranti selected as the adherend. The mechanical strength of the bonded test pieces was then analyzed. It was found that the adhesive strength increased together with the degree of acetoacetylation at least until 3 h after the application of the adhesives. The degree of acetoacetylation had little effect on water resistance within the range 3.3–37.1%, and as a crosslinking agent, diamines containing primary amino groups were effective, although secondary amines and polyethyleneimine were not. It is assumed that the chemical structure of the amine influenced the crosslinking reaction at the adhesion interface. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 91: 2966–2972, 2004  相似文献

Ternary blends composed of matrix polymer poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF) with different proportions of poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA)/poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) blends were prepared by solution casting. The crystallization behavior and hydrophilicity of ternary blends were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), wide angle X‐ray diffraction (WAXD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and contact angle test. According to morphological analysis, the surface was full of typical spherulitic structure of PVDF and the average diameter was in the order of 3 μm. The samples presented predominantly β phase of PVDF by solution casting. It indicated that the size of surface spherulites and crystalline phase had little change with the PMMA or PVP addition. Moreover, FTIR demonstrated special interactions among the ternary polymers, which led to the shift of the carbonyl stretching absorption band of PVP. On the other hand, the melting, crystallization temperature, and crystallinity of the blends had a little change compared with the neat PVDF in the first heating process. Except for the content of PVP containing 30 wt %, the crystallinity of PVDF decreased remarkably from 64% to 33% and the value of t1/2 was not obtained. Besides, the hydrophilicity of PVDF was remarkably improved by blending with PMMA/PVP, especially when the content of PVP reached 30 wt %, the water contact angle displayed the lowest value which decreased from 98.8° to 51.0°. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Electronic spectral behavior of poly(N‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone) (PVP) was determined in aqueous solutions including a variety of inorganic salts (phosphates, mono‐ and dihydrogen phosphates, sulfates, chlorides, nitrates, bisulfites, and persulfates) for several concentrations. The n → π* excitations are shifted to longer wavelengths depending on the nature and the concentration of salt. The resulting dependence of λmax on the molar concentration can be expressed to show the increasing effect of anionic and cationic species in bathochromic shift. The increasing order of effectiveness of anions in shifting the λmax is S2O8 = > S2O5 = > PO4 3− > HPO4 2− > SO4 2− > H2PO4 2− > Cl. The order for the cation is as Na+ ≈ K+ ≈ NH4 + in the 0.1–0.6M concentration range and Na+ ≈ K+ > NH4 + in > 0.6M aqueous solutions. The changes observed in λmax by the salt were correlated with the changes occurring in the structure of water and the polymer–solvent interactions. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Interpenetrating polymer network (IPN) hydrogels based on poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and 1‐vinyl‐2‐pyrrolidone (VP) were prepared by radical polymerization using 2,2‐dimethyl‐2‐phenylacetophenone (DMPAP) and methylene bisacrylicamide (MBAAm) as initiator and crosslinker, respectively. The thermal characterization of the IPNs was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), and dielectric analysis (DEA). Depressions of the melting temperatures of PVA segments in IPNs were observed with increasing VP content via the DSC. The DEA was employed to ascertain the glass transition temperature (Tg) of IPNs. From the result of DEA, IPNs exhibited two Tgs indicating the presence of phase separation in the IPN. The thermal decomposition of IPNs was investigated using TGA and appeared at near 270°C. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci 86: 1844–1847, 2002  相似文献

To study the mechanisms of charge production and storage in poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP), short circuit thermally stimulated currents (TSCs) in solution‐grown PVP depolarized at 30, 50 and 80 °C with 25, 50 and 100 kV cm−1 have been analysed in the temperature range 30–200 °C. By employing TSC measurements with a conventional ‘contact electrode’ two kinds of charges have been observed. An anomalous TSC flowing in the same direction as the charging current was observed for PVP thermoelectrets poled at 50 and 80 °C with 50 and 100 kV cm−1. The TSCs for samples poled at different temperatures (30, 50 and 80 °C) with 25 kV cm−1 have been found to be normal in the sense that the discharge current flows in the direction opposite to that of the charging current. The TSC thermograms have been found to be characterized by two peaks located at 60–70 °C and 160–170 °C. Various characteristics of thermograms have been explained in terms of the existence of heterocharge due to dipolar orientation and ionic homocharge drift, together with the injection of charge carriers from electrodes and their subsequent localization in surface and bulk traps. © 2000 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The miscibility of hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) and poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) blends in aqueous solutions was studied using viscosity, ultrasonic velocity, and refractive index techniques at 30°C. The interaction parameters ΔB, μ, and α calculated from viscosity using Sun and Chee methods indicated the miscibility of this blend. This was further confirmed by ultrasonic and refractive index results. The HPC/PVP blend films are prepared by solution casting method and are analyzed by differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopic techniques that confirmed the complete miscibility. This miscibility is due to the strong intermolecular H-bonding interactions between  OH groups of HPC and CO groups of PVP. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2012  相似文献

The new amphiphilic triblock copolymers of poly(N‐vinyl pyrrolidone‐b‐methyl methacrylate‐bN‐vinyl pyrrolidone) (P(VP‐b‐MMA‐b‐VP)) were synthesized via a reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization route. Using these copolymers as additives in casting solutions, the porous blend membranes of poly (vinylidene fluoride) and P(VP‐b‐MMA‐b‐VP) were prepared following a typical nonsolvent induced phase separation process. The influences of P(VP‐b‐MMA‐b‐VP) on the morphologies of the blend membranes were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The chemical compositions in membrane surface layers were measured by X‐ray photoelectron measurement. Water contact angle and water flux experiments were used to evaluate the hydrophilicity and permeation properties of the blend membranes. It was found that the P(VP‐b‐MMA‐b‐VP) copolymers could be retained in membrane stably in membrane formation and application process. The copolymers could enrich in surface layer and endowed the blend membrane with efficient hydrophilicity and higher water permeation flux. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
