In this paper we discuss the choice of sensor positions for a tubular reactor with a preset number of sensors. Different observability measures, based on the observability matrix (Kailath, Linear Systems, Prentice Hall, Englewood Cliffs, NJ, 1980; Callier and Desoer, Linear System Theory, Springer-Verlag, Berlin, 1991: Damak et al., DYCORD '92, 1992, pp. 315–320), the observability gramian (Callier and Desoer, 1991) as well as on the Popov-Belevitch-Hautus rank test (Kailath. 1980) will be considered for locating optimal sensor positions. The analysis is carried out on the reduced finite-dimensional model of the process. The results of these investigations will be illustrated in simulation and put in perspective with the modal observability properties of the original infinite-dimensional model.  相似文献

Effective leadership requires relationship skills such as – problem solving conflict management, motivation, communication, and listening [Yukl, G. A. (1998). Leadership in organizations. Arguably, nothing is more important to a leader than the skills involved in communicating one’s intent to followers, for it is only through effectively transmitting intent that followers may understand and then execute the goals of the team and leader. The modern work-world is dominated by computer-mediated communication, and this communication is the bread and butter of virtual teams; however, simple transmission of information from point A to point B is not enough – the virtual environment presents significant challenges to effective communication. In this paper we review issues related to virtual teams and developments in multimodal displays that allow teams to communicate effectively via single or multiple modalities (e.g., visual, auditory, tactile). This discussion is grounded in guiding principles for design and use of information displays that were identified and culled based on multiple review criteria from an extensive review of the literature. We present an applied example of the utility of these guiding principles for multimodal display design, in the context of communicating a leader’s presence to virtual followers via commander’s intent.  相似文献

Eight VDTs of different trademarks were analysed in relation to the following properties:

( a) Contrasts of luminance between the screens on the one hand and source documents, as well as other surfaces of the VDT, on the other.

(b) Oscillation degree, sharpness and stability of characters.

( c) Face and legibility of characters.

( d) Dimensions, mobility and reflection degrees of the keyboards.

Special equipment was developed and standardized conditions were applied to the measurements.

The eight VDTs showed essential differences for all the parameters, which might be partially responsible for eye strain and postural complaints. It can be concluded that customers should pay more attention to ergonomic qualities when choosing a VDT. But such an endeavour remains useless if the customer does not, at the same time, look for a proper design of the whole workstation including the working environment.  相似文献

John Wiley, 1977; Ajiz, M.A., Int. J. Comput. Struct., 28(2) (1988) 185-94;31(4) (1989) 643-6; 38(2) (1991) 227-37; Jennings, A. and Ajiz, M.A., SIAM J. Sci. Stat. Comput.,5(4) (Dec. 1984) 978-87]. An algorithm is presented in this paper and is implemented using the above data structures which declares itself more efficient than the algorithm mentioned in (Wirth, N., Algorithms and Data Structures. Prentice Hall, 1986; Aho, A. V. et al., Data Structures and Algorithms. Addison-Wesley, 1983). It converts the original matrix into a tridiagonal matrix by taking full advantage of sparsity patterns of the original matrix. This tridiagonal matrix is further decomposed using Choleski root-free decomposition (Wirth, N., Algorithms and Data Structures. Prentice Hall, 1986; Aho, A.V. et al., Data Structures and Algorithms. Digital Subscriber Lines (DSLs), transmission systems that allow high-speed digital transmission on ordinary phone lines, are overviewed in this article. This article focuses mainly on the transmission technologies and the challenges of high-speed transmission on twisted-pair phone lines, but also considers basic terms of reference and network/applications interfaces. Loop topology, transmission impairments, and transmission techniques are reviewed for the most popular DSLs, as are the basic connections necessary for a complete ADSL service through a service-provider's network.
