The thermal conductivity and the associated relaxation time to reach steady-state conditions are reported for the normal phase of several very dilute mixtures of3He in4He (X<4 × 10–6) at saturated vapor pressure near T. The measurements were made over the reduced temperature range 2.5 × 10–6<<2×10–1, where (T–T)/T, and are representative for pure4He. The spacing between the cell plates was 0.147 cm. The systematic uncertainty in the conductivity data is estimated to increase from 2% for =0.2 to 4% for =3 × 10–6. The random scatter due to finite temperature resolution increases to 7% at the smallest . The data are in agreement within the combined uncertainty with recent ones by Tam and Ahlers (cell F, spacing 0.20 cm) and with previous ones in this laboratory taken with a different plate spacing. The thermal diffusivity coefficientD T = / C p obtained from is found to agree within better than 15% with the calculated one using data for , the density , and the specific heatC p . Measurements of the effective boundary resistivityR b in the superfluid phase are described.R b is found to depend on the thermal history of the cell when cycled up to 77 K and above. Also,R b shows the beginning of an anomalous increase for ¦¦10–4. The possible reasons for this anomaly are discussed, and their impact on the analysis of conductivity data in the normal phase is appraised.  相似文献

Summary The similarity solutions for free convection on a vertical plate when the (non-dimensional) plate temperature is x and when the (non-dimensional) surface heat flux is –x are considered. Solutions valid for 1 and 1 are obtained. Further, for the first problem it is shown that there is a value 0, dependent on the Prandtl number, such that solutions of the similarity equations are possible only for >0, and for the second problem that solutions are possible only for >–1 (for all Prandtl numbers). In both cases the solutions becomes singular as 0 and as –1, and the natures of these singularities are discussed.  相似文献

The anomalous thermal boundary resistance R of superfluid4He near the lambda point T was studied in a cell with parallel copper faces and with various fluid layer thicknesses. The study was made as a function of the heat current Q and reduced temperature (T — T)/T = . In all cases, R tends to a maximum value Ritmax at T = T. This value is independent of Q, and is reproducible for various experiments. This contrasts with the regular boundary resistance which can vary considerably between successive experiments. Near T, the limiting slope dR/d¦¦ is found to be proportional to Q–1, and this leads to a scaled representation of the data. This analysis is extended to data of similar experiments with gold plated copper surfaces by Duncan and Ahlers and by Zhong et al. The measurements of R over the whole range of¦¦ where it is observable are discussed and compared with previous experiments.  相似文献

The temperature dependence of the static penetration (T) has been used as a guide to the nature of the superconducting state in high-T c materials. It has been argued that an algebraic temperature dependence in the ratio (T)/(0) [(T) — (0)]/(0) at low temperature is evidence for d-wave pairing. This paper examines the effect of superconducting phase fluctuations upon (T) and finds an algebraic dependence over a broad range of temperature.  相似文献

We propose that He II exhibits macroscopic [ P /N O(1)] quantum zero-point motion in momentum space, i.e., that a nonzero root-mean-square superfluid velocity exists even in an equilibrium superfluid system at rest. At absolute zero, using coherent states, we relate the uncertainty P /N in the total momentumP (per particle) to the long-range-order (LRO) part of the phase gradient correlation function, which is proposed as an order parameter. The local equilibrium equation for the superfluid velocity potential derived by Biswas and Rama Rao yields, in the strict equilibrium limit, the equation determining this order parameter in terms of fluctuation correlations that remain to be determined. The order parameter is interaction dependent, nonzero atT=0 if (0)–0V0>0, and can vanish at some transition temperatureT when fluctuation terms become comparable to theT=0 value. (HereV 0 0, and (0) are the uniform parts of the potential, density, and chemical potential with shifted zero of energy, respectively.) A characteristic length (T), diverging atT=T , appears naturally, with its defining relation reducing to a macroscopic uncertainty relation ( P /N)(0)=/2 atT=0. With certain assumptions it is shown that atT=0, LRO in the phase gradient correlation function is incompatible with off-diagonal long-range order (ODLRO) in the (r)(r) correlation function, and with nonzero condensate function.  相似文献

The fatigue behaviour of commercially pure aluminium and of nylon under sequentially varying strain amplitudes is compared with a damage law of the type suggested by Miner. Aluminium obeys such a law for both cyclic and uniaxial prestrains but the behaviour of nylon is significantly affected by microcracking, which produces a marked effect of loading sequence.Appendix N Number of strain cycles at a given time - N f Value of N at failure - True tensile stress - True stress range for a strain cycled specimen - h Value of at half the life of the specimen - True tensile strain - Total true strain range - p True plastic strain range (= the breadth of the hysteresis loop at = 0) - d True diametral strain range - E Young's modulus - Linear strain hardening rate when tested at a particular value of p - D Damage due to cycling - D p Damage due to prestrain - p Prestrain. The dielectric constant () and complex dielectric constant () of zinc substituted cobalt ferrites have been measured at room temperature in the high frequency range 100 kHz to 1 MHz. The values of dielectric loss tangent (tan ) have been computed from and . Plots of dielectric constant () versus frequency show a normal dielectric behaviour of the spinel ferrites. The frequency dependence of dielectric loss tangent (tan ) is found to be abnormal, giving a peak at certain frequency for all the ferrites under investigation. A qualitative explanation is given for the composition and frequency dependence of the dielectric constant and dielectric loss tangent. The dielectric constant for these mixed ferrites is approximately inversely proportional to the square root of the resistivity. A plot of dielectric constant versus temperature shows a transition near the Curie temperature. An attempt is made to explain the possible mechanism for this observation.  相似文献

The emissivities of metals are strongly affected by the growth of oxide films. For small film thicknesses, perturbations are limited to the visible range. As thicknesses increase, they spread to the infrared range. Various samples of optically polished metals (Fe, Ni, Cr) and stainless steels (ELI.T 1803 MoT and AISI 304 or 316) have been oxidized at temperatures ranging from 400 to 800C. Their spectral polarized directional emissivities, and , have been measured with two experimental techniques. The spectral range studied extends from 0.4 to 14 m; the measurement directions vary between 0 and 80 from the normal to the sample. After measurement, each sample was analyzed by glowdischarge optical spectroscopy (GDOS). From the results of the analysis and from the survey of bibliographical data, we characterized the structure of the oxide films, i.e., their approximate thicknesses and compositions. If the complex optical indices of the metals and oxides are known, the stratified media theory enables the computation of the emissivities and . Computed and measured values have been compared. It appears that the theory accounts well for experimental data when the thicknesses of the oxides are small as in stainless steels. But for thicker oxide films, discrepancies are ascribed to several reasons.  相似文献

Some new calculi [1,12,7], referred to by the collective name of - calculus, have been recently introduced to provide an explicit treatment of substitutions in the -calculus. They are term rewriting systems, with two sorts: substitution and term. The -terms are exactly the ground -terms of sort term containing no substitutions and the -reduction is decomposed in these calculi, into a starting reduction with a rule called (Beta) followed by a derivation computing explicitly the substitution. These calculi differ by their treatment of substitution. In this paper, we extend the -calculi with a conditional rewriting relation, called c. This relation coincides, on -terms, with the classical-reduction of -calculus. We prove that the confluent -calculus, augmented byc, remains confluent and that the ground confluent version [1], extended by c, is still ground confluent. The result extends readily to Categorical Combinatory Logic. The proof is done by the interpretation method introduced in [9].This work has been partially supported by the Eureka Software Factory project.  相似文献

No Heading In presence of the Josephson vortex lattice in layered superconductors, small c-axis magnetic field penetrates in the form of vortex chains. In general, structure of a single chain is determined by the ratio of the London [] and Josephson [J] lengths, = /J. The chain is composed of tilted vortices at large s (tilted chain) and at small s it consists of crossing array of Josephson vortices and pancake-vortex stacks (crossing chain). We study chain structures at the intermediate s and found two types of phase transitions. For 0.6 the ground state is given by the crossing chain in a wide range of pancake separations a [2–3]J. However, due to attractive coupling between deformed pancake stacks, the equilibrium separation can not exceed some maximum value depending on the in-plane field and . The first phase transition takes place with decreasing pancake-stack separation a at a = [1 – 2]J, and rather wide range of the ratio , 0.4 0.65. With decreasing a, the crossing chain goes through intermediate strongly-deformed configurations and smoothly transforms into the tilted chain via the second-order phase transition. Another phase transition occurs at very small densities of pancake vortices, a [20 – 30]J, and only when exceeds a certain critical value 0.5. In this case small c-axis field penetrates in the form of kinks. However, at very small concentration of kinks, the kinked chains are replaced with strongly deformed crossing chains via the first-order phase transition. This transition is accompanied by a very large jump in the pancake density.PACS numbers: 74.25.Qt, 74.25.Op, 74.20.De  相似文献

The dielectric constant, , and electrical conductivity, , of mortars with various sand-cement ratios,s/c, were measured for the first 30 h hydration using microwave techniques in the frequency range 8.2–12.4 GHz. The and of the mortars were found to increase linearly with increasing water-solid ratiow/(s + c), but decrease with increasings/c. It was found that as long as thes/c values were the same, the rate of changes in and of the mortars were the same. It appears that thes/c is the key factor controlling the rates of changes in dielectric and electrical parameters of cement hydration in mortar. The relationship between compressive strength and dielectric and electrical properties of mortars was also discussed.  相似文献

New measurements of the boundary resistivity in superfluid4He (2ppb3He) nearT are reported as a function of ¦¦ ( =T/T (Q) — 1) and of heat flux Q in a cell with parallel polished copper surfaces. Here we call T(Q) the temperature where the superfluid state abruptly disappears. In this design, the sidewall gaps between the copper pieces and the stainless steel spacer were eliminated. In contrast to several previous experiments but in agreement with those of Li and Lip a, no largeQ-dependent boundary resistivity anomaly was detected. However, as ¦¦ 0 the small weakly divergent resistivity was observed and its dependence onQ over the experimental range 1 <Q < 80 W/cm2 was found to be very small. These new results are compared with previous experiments and predictions. An explanation of the previously observed anomalous transport phenomena is presented in terms of a heat flow through the sidewall gaps in these cells, and its limitation by a critical flow value c. This phenomenological model can be fit satisfactorily to the observations. In the appendix we calculate c from mutual friction.  相似文献

The electrodynamic approach to the problem of collective oscillations in superconductors is considered. The kinetic equation for quasiparticles is used to find the longitudinal dielectric function 1 (, k) of a pure superconductor at ( is the collision frequency). With the help of the evaluated 1 (, k) the existence of collective oscillations localized near the boundary of the superconductor is investigated.  相似文献

The thermal conductivity, , and the heat capacity per unit volume, c p , have been measured for solid silver bromide (AgBr) using the transient hot-wire method. Measurements were made at temperatures in the range 100–400 K and at pressures up to 2 GPa. c p was found to be independent of temperature and pressure over these ranges. of AgBr was found to be similar to that of AgCl, which was measured previously. For AgBr, only acoustic phonons needed to be taken into account up to 340 K, but optic phonons probably carried some heat at higher temperatures. The Leibfried-Schlömann (LS) formula could describe the ratio (AgCl)/(AgBr), but not the ratio (1 GPa)/(0) for either substance. An empirical modification of the LS formula could describe the latter ratios but not the former. Further theoretical developments are required for understanding of (P) for even such relatively simple substances as AgCl and AgBr.  相似文献

Metastable lath martensite ( L ) phase wires with high strengths have been produced in the Fe-Ni-Cr-Al-C alloy system by melt spinning in rotating water. These wires have a circular cross section and a white lustre and the wire diameter is in the range of 100 to 140m. The width and length of each lath in the L phase are as small as about 0.3 and 2m, respectively. The y, f and p are about 900 and 1650 MPa and 2.0% for the L wires. The subsequent annealing causes an increase in p as well as y and f and the attained values are about 1000 and 1700 MPa and 3.0% for Fe-10Ni-10Cr-6.5 Al-1.0C wire annealed at 773 K for 1 h owing to the precipitation strengthening of a very fine unidentified carbide and to a high density of dislocations and lath boundaries in the L phase. Further annealing causes a significant decrease in p through decomposition of L to+M7C3+M23C6. Therefore, the high strength combined with relatively good ductility for the L wires is interpreted as due to the suppression of the phase transformation of L to a mixed structure of+M7C3+M23C6 by melt quenching.  相似文献

Glass fibre-reinforced plastic (GRP) cylinders are increasingly used for highly stressed structural elements. The higher the demands on the materials, the higher are the fault detection requirements to be met by non-destructive materials testing methods. Acousto-ultrasonics is a valuable aid for the non-destructive evaluation of GRP composite materials, because it may be the answer to evaluating effects of subtle defects in composites. The aim of the research is to evaluate the burst pressure of GRP cylinders by acousto-ultrasonics techniques. The theoretical results have been found to be in good agreement with the experimental values. Hence the results strongly suggest that stress wave factor measurements can be exploited successfully to predict burst pressure of GRP cylinders.Nomenclature P Internal pressure, kgf cm–2 - d Internal diameter, cm - t Thickness of cylinder, cm - (N ,N ,N ) Resultant forces, kgf - (M ,M ,M ) Moments, kg cm - [A] Extensional stiffness matrix - [B] Bending stretching coupling matrix - [D] Flexural stiffness matrix - ( 0 , 0 , 0 ) Midplane strains - (k ,k ,k ) Curvatures - n Number of laminae - Z Distance from midplane, cm - u Ultimate tensile strength of GRP composite, kg cm–2 - S W Stress wave factor - m Material parameter - Filament winding angle  相似文献

We have solved the Eliashberg gap equations which are valid for arbitrary phonon frequency, (ph), electron-phonon coupling constant, (), and screened Coulomb interaction, ( *). We have used values of (ph),, and ( *) appropriate to the cuprate superconductors, and calculated the density of states, the pair potential., and the value of the gap at T=0 K. Using the linearized Eliashberg equations in the matrix representation, we have calculatedT c and 2/k T c . We have found that we can account for the highT c 's in the cuprates with reasonable values for, *, and ph.  相似文献

Measurements of the dependence of the thermal conductivity (T, ) of 4He vapor on the density are presented at 3.3 and 4.5 K. The initial dependence upon near = 0 agrees with the prediction of the modified Enskog theory; but at higher densities there are departures from the prediction. The excess thermal conductivity (T, ) – (T, 0) is independent of T within experimental error.  相似文献
